Vitam et Mortem Origins: Witches & Hunters of Ancient Greece

Nuncvadam

He stared back, glare hard as he watched the decision war in her eyes. If he was going to train her, he wasn't going to accept any kind of failure and wanted to establish that right now. When he said do something, she needed to do it.

Also, it was just kind of fun to watch.

Eventually the Little One gave in and with a few words mumbled under her breath, she was off running like an awkward animal. Nuncvadam crossed his arms and watched her with a confused expression. Surely running like that didn't feel... natural?

She hadn't made it all the way around when she was bent over, trying to catch her breath. He opened his mouth and started to yell "Get a..." But she'd straightened up and began running again before he'd barely gotten the first two words out. Maybe training her wouldn't be so bad.

Chancing a glance at their nearest (and only) potential spectator, he waited for her to look up. The fact that she hadn't yet seemed to notice him was slightly bothersome.

Though she heard the gentle thumping of the girl's feet as she ran, she didn't take much notice. There was still distance enough between them that her practice wasn't being interrupted. The whirlpool that she suspended from her hand kept it's steady swirling movement, now rarely straying left or right, simply growing taller or shorter.

Something was always bound to break her concentration though. All it took was for the man to start shouting for the whirlpool to suddenly lose control. It seemingly burst, sending the spiralling water out in the direction it had originally been turning. In time, half of the water that was originally in the pail was now on the ground, soon to sink into the earth or evaporate into the air.

The woman turned her head so quickly it was as if she had just twitched. Beady eyes honed in on the shouter. She contemplated her next course of action, while turning back to what little water was still in the pail. She would have to go collect more, no matter what she did. She dipped her hand into the water, pulling out a small ball. How close really was she? Close enough to hit one of them? She had a good arm, she reckoned she could.

In another swift movement, she reeled her arm back. The ball of water went arcing through the air, directly towards the shouter. If her aim was true, it would hit him in the face. As much as part of her didn't want the child on the training grounds, she hadn't done anything wrong. Yet.

Lais

She grumbled when she heard Nuncvadam start to call out to tell her to start moving, and also nearly tripped over her own feet. Her legs burned, and she was debating thinking of trying to use fire to propel herself forward, but she didn't really know how to do that and she didn't want to accidentally destroy the training arena or something. Nuncvadam would probably kill her.

When she looked up from the track, she noticed that water lady staring at the fire witch. And she looked mad.

Before she even knew, a water ball was flying through the air and smacking her trainer in the face. Naturally, she started laughing to the point that she had to stop running and fell back onto her butt.

It came out of nowhere. He'd turned to get a glimpse at the pretty woman playing with her ball or whatever was going on over there and just as he did so, his face was met with a large splash of water.

It would seem, that like him, she could control an element. Instead of growing angry he just grinned and gave her a little wave. "If you wanted my attention, all you had to do was come over and say hello." Why else would she have thrown water at him?

As for Lais, he could hear her laughing and when he turned to look at her, he was pleased to see she'd fallen over... even if she was laughing at him. "Add a lap." He called out with a grin.

Her face was a mask of pure hatred and annoyance. "You shouldn't yell when people are trying to focus!" She scolded, also yelling. "Important people train here." A pointed glare in the direction of the child. She'd yet to see either of them demonstrate that they had any right to be on the training grounds.

Feeling that her duty as done, she bent at the waist and picked up the pail by it's handles. She couldn't do any sort of training with what tiny amount she'd been left. Hoisting it up onto her waist, she started to walk in the direction of the nearby river.

Lais

Not particularly sure how to react to the raging water lady, Lais just got up and finished the extra lap that Nuncvadam had assigned. The whole run, Lais felt like that crazy lady was going to start pegging her with water pellets. She probably ran a bit faster from the idea.

The young girl skidded to a halt in front of her mentor when the lap was finally over.

"What's next?" She asked breathlessly, her dark eyes peering up at him hopefully. In her mind, she was contemplating what she would do if Nuncvadam didn't teach her more fire tricks that day. One part of her said smite him, but the other just said to kick him in the face. He'd have to teach her how to smite someone before she could actually do it to him.

The smile never left the bald man's face as he watched the stranger yell at him. "Important people are training here," he called back, gesturing to himself and Lais. She walked off with her pail and he turned his attention back to his student, still running laps.

When she finally stopped before him, he appraised her for a moment. "You'll definitely need to work on your endurance over the next few weeks." He sighed, "but I can see you are eager to begin working on your gift." He held out his hand, palm up. Nuncvadam closed his hand into a fist and then opened it back up, as he did so a small ball of fire sat in the palm of his hand; perfectly round. "Take it." He instructed. "I want you to control it so that it stays in that shape, don't let it change or grow or shrink."

Thaleia

At the river, the champion hopeful had stripped down and was swimming lazily, bathing in the cool river. At the approach of another, though, she sank down into the water leaving only everything above the neck above the water. She relaxed when she realized it wasn't Nuncvadam coming to bother her, but rather a woman that she'd seen training at the grounds a few times. Shyly, she gave the other woman a small wave.
