Otherworld Academy for Wayward Gods

Mor's had already reached her own room and had seen Mau enter the other girl's room. She laughed to herself when she realized what was going to happen in a few minutes time. She kept the door open, for when Aila might come asking for her and she sat on the bed, her eyes falling on the broadsword that she kept in the corner of the room, which looked out of place with all the boyband posters and more feminine touch to the room.

She frowned and walked over to it, examining the blade's edge before sheathing it again and picking up her silver glove with the silver retractable blade, testing the release mechanism and smiling gleefully when the narrow long blade shot out in a split second, ringing as it did so. She retracted it back onto her wrist at the same speed, resulting in a louder, higher toned ringing sound. "let's see how my old sparring dummy feels about another session" she says to herself before walking toward the training area downstairs.

Yhi yawned, not realizing that she completely missed the morning antics. She groggily finished brushing her hair and slipping into her usual wear before slipping out of the jungle she called her room. When she got to the hallway, she wandered around before finding the now-dissipating crowd.

"Uh... Morning?" She said in a sleepy and confused tone, rubbing her eyes and standing there in a dazed and dumbfounded state.

Louis nodded. If she didn’t want any help, he wasn’t going to go out of his way to annoy her with repeated questions if she was sure. Turning around, he began to make his way out.

Before he did so, however, he made sure to clap Aila on the shoulder. Grabbing might be a bit too... personal. “Ye aren’t a freak. Bit of a bitch, aye, bu’ not a freak. Yer good as ye are, and don’t let...” He gestures in the general direction of himself, the snake and the room. “Whatever this was make ya think otherwise.”

With that said, he gives an awkward nod to Aila and Nina, making his way out.

Ren had some explaining to do, and he needed to talk to Vulcan.
**********
Vulcan appeared in the doorway as if he knew he had just been summoned, leading up against the boundary of the dorm. He crossed his arms and smirked, pulling the edge of his crimson dressing gown shut. "I heard some screams, and thought you might need a knight in shining armor" A winked and tipped his head, performing a lazy salute with one hand "Thought Louis might have needed some backup" After everyone had started to sneak out of the opening assembly, Minerva had just cut the event short. Orientation activities continued throughout the rest of the day- a few more lectures, some tours for the transfers- but no actual classes- they would be starting in the mourning. For now, Vulc was free from having to worry about failing, and he was going to make the most of his freedom. The situation had seemed to have diffused itself for now, and his presence wasn't technically required, but he was never one for passing up on a chance to break curfew and sneak into the girl's dorm.

"Training again, are you?" A voice left the lips of a figure standing on the other side of the training room. He sat at the foot of another training dummy, sharpening a broadsword that sat on his lap with a wet stone. He was dressed loose-fitting button-up PJs , having also broken curfew, presumably on a whim "I used to come down here all the time at my old school...This is my first time here though"

"Who the hell are you?" she says, the narrow blade singing as it extended from the mechanism on her wrist. she was wondering how he had come down here and she smiles "have you been watching me?" and she walks toward him some more, still wary of his nonchalant manner and the seeming knowledge of her activity, she spread her wings to shadow her face and to stop him from seeing her face, red with anger and blushing from the man who may indeed have been watching her for a very long time. "answer me, who the hell are you?"

Louis held up the cobra in his hands, face marred with a frown. "Ren thought it'd be hilarious ta pick on a god's natural weakpoint an' leave a live cobra in Aila's room. Do ya mind havin' a wee talk with her? Or gettin' someone else to? I would, but my power tends to ge' in the way a li'le." He tells his friend, patting his shoulder with just enough force to get the guy moving down the hallway with him. As much as he himself would love to stay, they still had to get some sleep after this was over and done with.

"Figured you'd be the man for the job, but if ya think there's someone better i'm all ears. An' I know, it's 'Just Ren being Ren', but there are boundaries, and ya don't just cross 'em on the first day back." He wonders if he was being too worked up about this... before an image of Aila's terrified face flashed through his mind. It wasn't right, exploiting a person's fears like that.

Walking into the colossal grounds of the front of the school, Magec sighed as he missed the introductions, due to his flight being delayed for quite some time. Contacting the school on the previous day was easy, but he was still bummed out about missing a orientation. Attendance and punctuality was the sign of a good student and he hated to be seen as a slacker. He had hoped to meet some of the new faces joining the school this year in a crowded, lively and welcoming environment. That, of course, doesn't stop him from hunting down every newcomer and welcoming them with a bright smile and a rough introduction to the school. Magec loved meeting new people and making friends, he enjoyed the chorus of faces that mingled in the crowd of students in the school hallway and socialising with all his friends to catch up with whatever they had been doing over the holidays. Jogging down the hallway, he waved to everyone who passed him- even if they weren't remotely looking his way- and tried to find his usual room.

Students had long gone to their rooms at this point and Magec only loitered around after heading to the ends of the building in some sort of quest for company, enjoying his being in the school and excited to be able to talk to everyone again.

Aila was a little shocked at the hand that suddenly came to rest on her shoulder, his words echoing in her head after they were said. She heard and then saw (after she peeked her head out her room) Vulcan standing at the entry to the girl's dorm, the man seemingly eager to help despite the trouble having already passed. Aila didn't know his true motives for arriving, although she could have guessed that he liked any excuse to stretch the limits of the rules set here.

She moved back inside her room, feeling somewhat conflicted about what had occurred. While Louis had not stopped Ren's antics in the hall, he had still made an effort to help her now. Rather than calling over his friends to gawk at her terrified in a corner, he had removed that ugly reptile and given her words of....encouragement? She wasn't even sure herself exactly what his motivation had been for saying something to lighten her mood. It seemed unlike an Elite to do something that would benefit someone other than themselves or a fellow Elite.

The girl made her way back over to her bed, only able to climb back in after doing a thorough examination of the furniture to make sure there was not a single scale or sign of a snake anywhere near her. Once satisfied, having turned her bedding upside down and inside out, she climbed back into bed. When she was just beginning to doze off again when she felt a familiar weight jumping up onto the foot of her bed.

"Welcome back Mau..." Aila whispered into the dark, only now able to fall asleep knowing that the lion was back safely after the snake drama.

********************************************************************************************************************************************
The nightmare always started the same. She was in a dark room, with mere spots of light shining in odd places. It wasn't enough to illuminate the room, rather the beams of light acted as small, isolated beacons in the thick darkness. She stood in one of those beams now, too afraid to move or step a foot out of it's protective circle of light. It was eerily quiet for what felt like a lifetime, but she knew she was being watched by something. She felt it in her gut. Then the slithering began.

It was as if she could heard every individual scale scraping along the floor, her hearing vastly better in her dream than how far it had developed in reality. The reptile was getting closer, pieces of the long being breaking some of the beams but not enough for it's full appearance to be known. The red eyes were next, like two glowing orbs each the size of her head as they watched her every move. They appeared and disappeared, always changing position as they did so. Aila knew she was being cornered in by the coils of the snakes body, unsure where she could run to in the dark that existed beyond the halo of light. It was soon too late, the scales cutting into her flesh as the coils appeared out of nowhere and tightened around her.

She couldn't even scream despite how hard she tried, her fists banging against the creature as she wriggled and tried to free herself. The more she moved the tighter the coil became, her chest feeling as if her ribs would snap in half inside of her. Dots appeared in her vision as the last of her breath was forced out of her lungs. The glowing red orbs appeared just out of reach of the halo of light, watching Aila victoriously as the life was being squeezed out of her.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************

Aila woke with a gasp, sitting up in bed as her breathe rasped out as if she had run a marathon. Her phone alarm was blaring on the table beside her, curls sticking out in every direction. It took a moment for her to realize she had just been dreaming, the female rubbing her eyes with the heels of her palm. Mau yawned and stretched out in front of her, rolling onto his back as he continued sleeping.

"That was the most vivid one yet." the girl said to herself, groaning as she remembered that today marked the official start of classes. Aila forced herself to get out of bed, feet dragging as she made her way to the showers to get ready.

"No no no no Us no!" The man cried, reeling his head backward and raising his palms in some form of casual surrender. All the while, his thumbs never left the edge of his blade, the thick steel providing a barrier between him and the new god. "I just..." He tipped his heads, rearranging his thoughts and coming to terms with the facts "...I just tend to know things..." No, he wasn't a knowledge God...that was never going to pass. He would just have to tell her the full, albeit confusing truth "Alright, I have been watching you, but not watching watching you, you know? I just like the training room- I guess I kinda feel at home here- and I just take a mental note of who keeps coming here" Wow, that was easier to explain than he expected. Damn, now she probably thought he was just another detached teenage creed. Maybe that's what he got for throwing in with the Outcasts. "See? Just a misunderstanding- not a creed I promise"

He rose to his feet, standing his sword up against the dummy he had just been leaning up against, cracked his knuckles outwards and outstretched a bruised, raw hand "The names Hercules, friends call me Lee. I'm a transfer here; fresh off the boat last week. Gotta say..." He threw his eyes up towards the rafters of the training room, enthralled by how far up they seemed to stretch. There was so much room here- room enough for someone to fly-- now that's something he wouldn't have seen at his old school "The facilities here rock... I guess its a constellation prize for getting torn away from your friends and everyone you know to come to a school filled with vapid assholes ...Present company not included, right?" He teased, rubbing the back of his blonde, scruffy hair.

Louis held up the cobra in his hands, face marred with a frown. "Ren thought it'd be hilarious ta pick on a god's natural weakpoint an' leave a live cobra in Aila's room. Do ya mind havin' a wee talk with her? Or gettin' someone else to? I would, but my power tends to ge' in the way a li'le." "Yup, this is a very 'Ren' thing to have done. The whole thing screams 'I'm rich and have daddy issues, so look at me', right?" Vulcan let out a small chuckle, fueled more by his sleep deprivation than him trying to be funny. At least he didn't end it with a corny 'Up top' that he would be regretting long into the next week. As the two headed further and further down the hallway and closer towards the guy's dorn, Vulc felt more and more comfortable speaking his mind. "Aye, buddy, you're putting me on the chopping block here. If I go tell Ren that she needs to toll the line, she's probably going to bite my head off, just like last time..." Still, this was another chance for him to play hero, to assert his dominance and show the school that he truly was an 'Alpha'. To stand up to Ren Ernutet... the moment the school saw him that, he wouldn't just be one of the leaders of the food chain, he would be the prime predator. The School's King...Dare he say Prom King? Heck, shutting her down might even get him some free passes from some of the Anti-Ren Teachers... "But, for the Greater Good, I'll sacrfice myself...But you'll be my back up, right? I'm not going to go toe-to-toe with that Hydra unless I've got my boys to back me up when it all goes to the Underworld...We'll confront her at breakfast..."

“Aye, sounds good.” Louis says, patting his mate on the shoulder. “I apparently once threw a stone so ‘ard my grand uncle’s eye went through the back of his ‘ead. Ren can’t be too much above that.” He says, very fortunate that his power still slowed the god to crack jokes.

Turning the corner, he noted that his room was close. The two had practically shared a dorm since they had both arrived at the Academy, and Louis liked to think that because of this they had both managed to reach the positions they were in.

“Somethin’ tells me tha’ ya won’t have as big a problem as ya think. Bu’ if you need me, just signal. I’ll try an’ stand back, so yer both outta range of my aura.” He comments idly as he shoves open the door to his room, lazily noting the discarded towel from where he had dropped it.

“Night man.” He says simply, yawning a bit before simply collapsing into bed.

***********

Louis woke up from a sleep full of dreams of storms and an eternally evergreen glade at the crack of dawn, just as usual. Scratching a bit as he stood up, he hangs up the towell he had left on the floor and chucks on some fresher clothes, mixing it up a bit with a navy blue shirt.

That done, he decides to get some exercise in before breakfast. Grabbing a wooden spear from where it lay, nearly abandoned against the wall, he left the dorm and made his way to the training centre.

"Haha of course you did, mate" Vulc retorted, throwing himself down onto his bed and calling Louis through the open door "Practicing your passing even then, were you?" His joke was cut short by another shudder "Trust me, Louis, she's the kind of evil they only describe in the really nasty legends. The kind that makes Medusa look like a puppy.. or whatever cute animals can slum it in Scotland...But anyway... it's nice to know someone's got my back...night bro"

By the time morning came, Vulc threw on hit letterman and slapped himself in the face a few times to wake up. Cold water just wasn't working today- he needed to prepare himself as much as he could for today. Today was the day- do or die- so he might as well psyche himself up

Alright...this is it...this is the day you dance with the devil buddy...try not to screw it up

Without her makeup, it was still clear that the girl was naturally beautiful- at least, in a conventional fashion- yet without her warpaint she seemed to act slightly differently. She huntched her shoulders inwards, making herself seem smaller, almost to the point of invisibility. Her arms were wrapped around her chest tightly, holding her towel to her stomach in some form of death grip. Her eyes were cast downwards, desperate to avoid being seen so...vunerably. Instead of barging the girl as she normally would, Ren simply slipped past the girl and made her way back towards her room calmly and collectively. One might have mistaken her for a different person... had she not left Aila with a parting gift as her back disappeared down the hallway "Try not to clog up the pipes with your cat hair...then you might be able to convince someone that that kitty is good for something other than crapping on people's days"

Yhi yawned and flopped down on her bed. The morning had gone as usual, now she was just waiting for breakfast. She was quite bored, so she decided to do a little more with her hair, braiding it and choosing some of her favorite flowers from her personal garden. When she was done, she made her way to the hallway, slipping past Aila and mumbling a good morning. She squinted, trying to find a clock.
“D’you know the time?” She asked, trying to figure out what was going on. She had definitely overslept.

"Morning Yhi. It's about time to get to breakfast. Nice hairdo by the way, you're going to need to teach me how to do that sometime." She said with a smile, reaching the girl's bathroom

Aila was holding her toiletries in one hand with her clean towel draped over the other. She had been prepared to go for an early morning run before going to sleep, but after the events that had woken her during the night she just didn't have the energy or motivation for it. The girl pushed open the door to the bathroom with her foot, using her hip to wedge it open so that she could slip inside.

She almost knocked right into Ren, her face mere inches away when she turned around from closing the door again. There was no doubt the girl had some natural allure to her....most Gods and Goddesses did. Divinity usually came with some good symmetrical facial features and other such constructs of perceived beauty. However, she was different here without her makeup so thick it resembled building plaster. The same bitchy attitude still remained though, bringing Aila back to earth after the girls naked face had caught her off guard.

"Wouldn't dream of it Ren...gods know how you would melt like the wicked witch of the west if you found out you would need to share a bathroom with some of the junior students. Besides, I'm pretty sure Mau is better at keeping himself clean than any of your little purse-pooches." Aila walked to the nearest cubicle containing a shower, sink and toilet, wanting to be free of the shenanigans with Ren which had started too early for her liking.

Perhaps she should have brought up the issue of the snake in her room, but the truth was that Aila wanted to see just how true to his word Louis was going to be on his promise to talk to Ren.

***************************************************************************************************************

After a short shower, Aila changed into a pair of tight-fitting light blue jeans, a white shirt and sneakers and her usual jewelry. The only new addition was a tiger-eyes pendent silver necklace which her parents had gotten her for Christmas. She chuckled to herself as she looked at the accessory dangling on her shirt, unable to help her amusement at the irony of what they had chosen considering they still didn't know who she truly was.

She then made her way down to the Great Hall, the smell of coffee filtering out of the large room making her stomach grumble. ** On her way down, Aila's eye caught the sight of a bright pink poster that had been pinned up on the notice board. She hesitated, scanning over it and felt a small amount of panic grip her.

Cheerleading try-outs for Miss Terpsichore will be held tomorrow in the gymnasium after school. Be prepared with suitable clothing and plenty of school cheer!

Aila's appetite left her, the girl immediately running back to her room to find some yoga pants and an airy top. If the try-outs were that soon and she really wanted to prove something to Ren, she was going to have to be late for breakfast in order to get in some time at the training grounds to perfect her flexibility and coordination.

The girl rushed back down the stairs, hurriedly tying back her hair into a rough ponytail before sprinting towards the nearby training grounds.

Breakfast--The Next Day

Before the sleeping students knew it, the morning bell had struck 7 times, summoning all students to the food hall for breakfast. What seemed like an ordinary day to some was swiftly snowballing into something more grandiose for others; in a few hours, the transfers would be given their first chance at using their powers, and in a few minutes, either Ren or Vulcan would have committed social suicide. Principal Minerva had been right- this was going to be a year to remember.

Vulcan arrived at the elite table early- uncharacteristically so- and prepared to eat what he could before Ren arrived and his appetite vanished. He needed his energy to defend himself in the ensuing firefight. He swallowed hard and hit his internal worries from the world- if this risk was truly going to pay off, he was going to have to convince the entire school that last year's head cheerleader didn't scare him at all- a challenge in its own right. Before he knew it, other early eaters were arriving, and the hall was filling up whilst many were still showing or pacing the halls, others we taking their seats, not knowing that they were about to be sitting on the front row of some real action...
----
At the other end of the hall, Principal Minerva stood ready, watching like a vulture hungry for its next meal. She had missed the arguments of the previous day- being absent on a call from the local village- but had been filled in on all that had happened by Wotan. The runaway tiger. The plastic snakes. Even the flaming football violated a dozen rules. But trying to persecute yesterday's crimes today was going to be a wild goose chase Inti would lie to protect Vulc, and Vulc would lie to protect Louis, and Louis would lie to protect the three of their places on the team, and Ren would persecute and discredit Aila so hard that I would be impossible to tell if either one was telling the truth. The court case from the Underworld. She was much better off letting it slide...for now, and catch them should any fallout occur today. If they tried any funny business this morning, they would surely regret it.

"7 O'clock on the dot" A teacher cried, carrying her briefcase under her arm to check one of three watches that hung from her arm "Sorry, but time is my thing. Professor Aeternitas is the name" She smiled, brushing several strands of curling grey hair from her brow and offering out a free hand "I'll be your professor for The Understanding of the Dietic World later this week. Not to worry-- I trust you'll be more punctual them. Of course, you are half an hour late already..."

Louis entered the hall, spear absent after having returned it and hair wet, having decided to take a shower in order to avoid smelling rank to everyone around. He couldn’t wait for the moment he got his hands on that spear he was supposed to have, it was supposed to be cash. As well as, you know, the entire reason for his godly name.

Ignoring the outcast table and merely taking his eyes over the usual, he gives a wave to those at the Elites as they spot him, loudly giving him a seat and jokingly offering him a haggis burger, something he had quickly had added to the menu after he had arrived. It may be a bit gruesome in how it was made, but it was delicious.

As he ate, he glanced towards Vulcan, giving the quite obviously worrying god a nod to tell him he had his back. Normally he wouldn’t bother with Ren and the Cheerleader’s side of things (probably why he never got a girlfriend, if he wasn’t honest with himself), but it was the first day of their senior year and she was already making waves. That wouldn’t do.

He knew that if he was on equal standing with the girl, he could crush her himself by just relying on his aura. But he wasn’t. He and Ren were on about as different a scale as he was with Aila, completely untranslatable. So he needed Vulcan, a man of boy his and Ren’s world, to act and the face.

He was happy his friend was willing to put himself on the line like this, and the least he could do to pay him back was stick with him.

Aila warmed up with a couple of stretches, nothing would be worse than injuring herself when she so desperately wanted to do her best at the try-outs. She had initially wanted to do them for her own gain, being able to participate in something in her last year would have been a pleasant experience. After the snake-episode the previous day and night her motives had changed to simply wanting to prove to Ren that she wasn't as beneath her as she thought.

The girl set up the equipment she needed, lining up a pommel horse, springboard, soft mats and a balance beam. Aila then proceeded to get started, wanting to perfect a trick she had read about.

It took a mere half and hour of continually falling and Aila was already getting frustrated, trying over and over again to land on her feet to no avail. She was meant to flip over the pommel horse before getting onto the balance beam using the springboard, then do two backflips off the beam and land on the other side. It seemed simple enough, something amateur to her initially...what she hadn't taken into account though was just how much her nightmare-filled, restless night would affect her.

She fell on her backside once again, the girl growling under her breath as she put her head in her hands where she had fallen.

"This is clearly not happening now, maybe I should just try again later today." She said in a scolding tone, packing the equipment and looked at a clock hanging nearby. At the realization of how late it had gotten, she left the training room so quickly she almost left skid marks.

After a two minute shower, the girl was back in the school corridors running to the Great Hall where students waited before entering the Food Hall attached to it. She knew she would get a warning if caught going at her current pace, but she also knew that if she didn't make it into the hall in less than twenty minutes her late presence would certainly get her in trouble.

She flew in just in time, stopping just as second-last final warning bell sounded. Aila took a moment to catch her breath, smiling as she strolled over to the senior side of the Hall. The possibility of Ren being here had already crossed her mind, but as she looked around she noticed that she had yet to arrive.

Probably still coating her lips with their third layer of gloss...She thought to her own amusement, almost satisfied that she had some time to herself before the girl's entry. The cheerleader still had some time to get here before being considered tardy, but after the previous night's drama the longer she didn't have to be in Ren's presence, the better it was for Aila.

The girl noticed that the other Elites had already arrived, taking her favourite seat at the far end of the Usual table where it bordered with the Elite table.

Izanami burst open the doors of the dining hall ungracefully, nearly tripping in the process."Damnit, my parents hate me, I miss the first day, and didn't get to see all the fun stuff, yeah, todays going great." She mumbled under her breath in her slight Japanese accent, looking around the room, taking note of all the cliques, authority figures, and interesting persons, and quickly straightened up her posture, strolling down the tables. She settled down at the outcasts table, not even muttering a "Hello" before digging into her breakfast made by her maid, Yui. It was the last prepared food from home she would get in a while, or, ever. Her parents hired a chauffeur to drop her off at the airport without even a goodbye hug, and didn't bother to reschedule her flight, stranding her at the terminal for a day.

Halfway through her meal, she looked up, suddenly very self conscious of all the outcasts looking at her prim and proper appearance. "What're you looking at?" She said loudly to her surrounding peers, cursing herself for her awful social conduct. She fiddled with her chopsticks under table, getting more agitated by the minuet by their judging stares. (btw, sorry if it looks like I'm controlling the NPC's to make them judgmental, my characters just not very good in social situations and throughout her childhood her parents critiqued her, making her self-conscious)

“I’d keep an ear out this mornin’. Things are about to get a li’le... hectic. Gettin’ ya a little retribution.” Louis mutters, just loud enough for the girl behind him to hear without him having to turn around, but low enough that his louder friends would just think he was being a little weird.

He wasn’t sure why he was taking to the girl. They had spent quite literally all of their years in the same year ignoring each other. Then again, he was doing this mostly for Aila, as weird a thought as that was. He wasn’t her friend, and her certainly wouldn’t go out of his way to talk to her after this was said and done, but Ren had crossed multiple lines and it was about time he did the right thing to reign her in. If it meant helping Aila in the process... well, he supposed he could count that as a bonus.

Maybe.

Aila heard the voice from behind her, needing to take a moment to realize it had been Louis who had spoken. Looks like he really plans on going through with his promise. She couldn't help but be surprised, having spoken to him more in the past two days than their entire school career. She had half expected the entire Elite table to have something to say about what had happened, but it appeared both Vulcan and Louis had not felt the need to tell them all about the incident the night before. Maybe...maybe I have judged them incorrectly.

There was still a bit of niggling doubt inside her, a voice that wouldn't be completely quietened by what she had seen since arriving back for senior year. Don't let your guard down...who knows, maybe this all is just further elaboration of a much grander prank in the making. One that was produced by more than just Ren but rather the entire group of Elites. They've never done much to help or care about anyone but themselves before this, so why start now?

Aila hushed the voice, instead surprising herself by whispering back without turning around. "Retribution? Music to my ears....I will admit I'm surprised that you're going through all this trouble. You're going to be in the same boat as me if this goes awry."

Nina didn't manage to get much sleep, not after the episode with Aila and the snake. When she had realized that Louis had the situation in hand, she had quietly made her exit and retreated to her private suite. Part of her felt guilty; surely there was more she could do, more she could have done--sat with Aila, talked to Ren about maybe being less of a bitch, but...

Nina sighed. One more year... It was her mantra, and usually it was enough to get her through. Unless you never fit in anywhere, her internal monologue taunted.

"Shut up," she whispered to the darkness. But the anxiety persisted, and she only managed to doze lightly before she awoke just before dawn. No matter what time she went to bed, she was always up before the sun. Part and parcel of being the morning star, she thought wryly. Oh well; it gave her time to shower, dress, and apply her makeup before heading to the great hall for breakfast.

And again, the conundrum of choosing a table. Normally, Nina was the first to arrive just about everywhere, but she was surprised to see Vulcan in the hall ahead of her this morning.

"Good morning," she greeted him, before moving on to take a seat at the Usual table as close to the teachers' table as she could get. As other students filtered in, she overheard something about cheerleading tryouts. Maybe... Her thoughts were interrupted as several tardy students entered the hall, but she kept her eyes focused on her breakfast--oatmeal, a banana, coffee with skim milk, and a single piece of rye toast. Balanced, wholesome, and healthy. Nina's figure was important to her.

Glancing down the table, she saw Aila and Louis in covert conversation and quickly averted her eyes, her gaze settling instead on the latecomer sitting with the Outcasts...Izanami, if Nina remembered correctly. The poor girl looked as out of place as Nina felt; maybe this was someone she could be friends with, since none of the major cliques really called to her. If the Japanese girl looked her way, Nina would offer her a friendly smile.
