Dream as if you were dying.
Rhiannon - Warden’s Keep
The vampire was amused by her lover as he proclaimed his love for her once more. His hot forehead pressed to her much cooler one reminding her of how different they were. She could smell the blood of everyone as they slowly joined them, “Let us be off. I’ll be close behind you.”
She moved away gently before she glanced to the angel who was to lead them, “I will travel outside of your group. They being human would likely be in more danger from me than from an enemy should they get injured while being to close. I haven’t had nearly enough blood to be surround by their scent and not want their blood.”
The vampire was being honest and clear in her intentions. While she might ride mounted she wasn’t about to be safe guarded by what she could kill in a matter of moments. Walking over to the steeds she glanced them over. Three of them shied away from the predator before them knowing they could just as easily be on the menu as any human might. A large palmetto stallion tossed his head as her before stretching his head over to her to sniff at her. Holding out her hand she waited to see if he too would shy away. When he didn’t she took his bridle in hand and lead him away from the others.
It had been years since she had last been on a horse. Thankfully it was a skill one didn’t forget easily. Fixing the reins and checking the girth strap to make sure it was tight. In a smooth movement she placed her left foot in the stirrup, her left hand on the horn of the saddle and pulled up into the saddle with gentle ease. Fixing her skirt she put her other foot into the other stirrup then squeezed with her knees causing the now eager stallion to danced a bit before bolting out the gate.
Oh the wonderful bliss of traveling so smoothly over terrain. She let the horse run full speed for ten yards before shifting her weight back slightly and tapping the reins tight for a moment. Like any well trained beast it sat back on its haunches and slide to a graceful stop kicking up a cloud of dust as it did. The smile and joy that coated the vampire’s face was radiant as she turned and trotted the horse back to the group. It was clear a bond was forming between beast and vampire, “Ready, Brutus?” She would trail him as he might move quicker than the horses.
