Sir Savien Durandet
Yet this inconstancy is such
As thou too shalt adore;
I could not love thee, Dear, so much,
Loved I not Honour more

Savien Durandet was orphaned at the age of two after his mother left him on the doorsteps of an orphanage in Luskionos. He went through two foster homes before he was tested for aptitude by the Monastic Order and accepted into the academy at the age of nine. He trained for ten years and received exemplary marks in every subject, but had few friends and was unloved by his peers and his instructors. Intending to graduate as a cleric, Savien went missing three days before the ceremony during a routine training exercise. He was found in Lupaix two weeks later, beaten, bloody and naked. When he returned to the academy, he took the silver as a paladin.
Seven years later, Savien is one of the Order's most accomplished paladins. His assignments have a near perfect completion record, a testament to his tireless investigative abilities and powerful martial prowess. He is one of the few paladins that continually accepts missions that lead him outside of city limits into the towns and villages dotting the Lutetian countryside. Though he has worked with dozens of partners over the years, he prefers to work alone.
Despite his countless contributions to the Order and Lutetian society, Savien is no celebrity. He performs his work diligently and quietly, refusing all social invites and offered respites. He attends none of the dinners or balls hosted by the Lutetian bourgeois, takes none of his vacation time and is absent from all but the most crucial church festivals and celebrations. Indeed, Savien's name carries weight only within the ranks of the Order itself. On the streets, 'Sir Durandet' is as unknown as any common patrol cop.

Lore
The life of a paladin is bitter and brief. Here are the adventures of Sir Savien Durandet in his various ongoing investigations throughout Lutetia City. Numbers list the chronological sequencing in which events happen. The events themselves are organized according the investigation (or general story arcs) to which they pertain.
Homecoming
1. -
Into the Darkness - Dispatched to the town of Carseau to investigate a distress beacon, Savien finds the village savagely butchered. The knight tracks the responsible monster to its lair and destroys it after a bitter fight.
He returns to Lutetia City, triumphant, three days away from home.
The Winter Reborn
2. -
The Lumenia Massacre - Savien, accompanied by proselyte Hogan, is assigned to investigate
the murders of three proselytes in Lumenia Square. He unravels evidence suggesting that the Caeruleum - a viscous family of vampire-demons who nearly destroyed Lutetia fifty years ago - have returned.
3. -
The Missing Protege - Not long after the massacre, Savien investigates a series of murders and kidnappings from the Academie Delacroix. With the help of the police and witnesses, Savien identifies the perpetrator as the same killer from Lumenia Square: Nox Caeruleum.
6. -
Have You Seen This Girl? - Savien gets a warrant into the apartment of Aurelie Lacroix, a known associate of Nox's. Piecing together clues found around her home, Savien deduces that Aurelie is metahuman and possibly bears relation to the influential Lacroix family.
9. -
"Yeah. Fuck you too." - With the help of Inspector Colette Lavoie, Savien at last confronts Nox in the Phantom Quarter. Seriously outnumbered by the Caer Lord's spawn, Savien manages to get Colette to safety before turning back in a desperate suicide charge to keep Nox from escaping before his backup arrives. He is beaten, tortured, and receives a scar slicing down the left side of his face, over his eye. Though the monster is also opposed by Warden Noah Leveque, he ultimately escapes just as Savien's back up arrives.
11.
Happy Genarium - Still sorely wounded, Savien attends the Genarium festival in Valentine Park, convinced that Nox is going to assault the celebration. Sure enough, the Caer Lord launches an attack against Lutetia, terrorizing the festivities and setting off bombs throughout the city. Savien, fighting alongside the Order and other allies, manages to drive Nox and his minions away from the park at great cost. He is evacuated from the fighting and taken back the Monastery, gravely wounded.
12.
Nightmares and Dreamers - Savien awakes after a nightmare in the Monastery, tended to by the cleric Madison, his childhood friend. While recovering from his wounds, Savien is again visited by Arianne Fabre who teleports him to her interdimensional home and reveals that Nox is not the only threat looming over Lutetia City; the disruption in arcane energies caused by Nox's schemes risks awakening 'The Dreamer' - an ancient being of untold power who would unmake existence save for the binding magics of the Fabres. They arm Savien with mystic texts to help him in his fight against Wynter, though he berates Arianne for not taking a more active role in stopping Nox. Savien continues to struggle with a crisis of faith brought about by his previous failures to stop the Caer.
The Rings
4. -
The Lumenia Massacre. Again. - Responding to a distress call, Savien aids police, paladins and a warden in destroying a murderous monster in Lumenia Square. Before it dies, a woman trapped within the beast touches Savien's mind and puts him in contact with a witch living in Lornaine Forrest. From her, Savien learns that Lutetia's supernatural citizens are being mutated and corrupted by a mysterious killer.
5. -
A Rocky Start - Savien contacts the supernatural community for help in his investigation. He learns that the destructive magical anomalies are caused by illegal rings which corrupts the innate magic in young witches and morphs them into rampaging monsters. Though Savien sought the help of Arianne Fabre and her coven, he was rebuffed. He now works separately with the aim of finding the killer(s) before the covens exact vigilante justice.
7. -
Why Do They Always Run - Savien hits the streets, interrogating the friends and family of the victims for more information. He attempts to question Seri - a young witch living in Merveilleux - but the girl flees, leading Savien on a wild chase through the city. He manages to capture her (spraining her arm in the process) and promises not to press charges in exchange for everything she knows.
8. -
A Witch and a Knight Walk into a Nightclub - Following Seri's testimony, Savien learns the identity of one of the thugs supplying rings to the covens. He corners him at Lu Roux nightclub, but the lead is stolen from him when Arianne Fabre ambushes them both and murders his suspect. Savien and Arianne engage in a brief duel with the witch ultimately escaping. Savien is also contacted by a mysterious stranger who promises to meet with the knight again...
10. -
Almost a Peace Offering - Arianne visits Savien in the hospital following his confrontation with Nox. Though still on opposite ends of the law, they seem willing to put aside their differences to deal with the more immediate threat: the Caer.
Side Quests
13.
The Druid and the Knight - Savien takes some time to assist local scoundrel Kol and Aoife, a druid of Lornaine Forest, who are being hunted by local gangsters for previous slights. Savien puts Aoife in touch with Arianne, hoping that the witch might help the druid in her quest to resolve magical anomalies plaguing Lornaine.
It goes extremely poorly, the ensuing hostilities nearly triggering an earthquake in the city. Aoife passes out from the energy expenditure and Savien brings her back to the Monastery to recover.
