"Hah...hah...thank you, but I'm afraid we're not done yet!"

The crystal within his arm cannon was white hot, and X felt his circuits within his arm whirl in protest to the sudden half-discharged charge shot. He was used to it, but rushing into battles without warning or warming up still was a bad idea. Still, he gave a thumbs up on his free hand to the other robot.

To think such a monster could evaporate into nothing.....and like mavericks, they never stopped appearing. More and more violence, X wondered if it would ever come to an end. He turned around, buster rearmed, but only shooting lighter shots this time around which allowed him to move.

"Evil doesn't need a leader." He remarked as he sighed. He blasted another shot straight at a charging hirichurl. "Still, while that wasn't the worst that could've happen, you're still made of flesh so be careful!"

Calling these monsters 'evil' was a stretch, at best. X didn't even believe most of the mavericks he decommissioned, deluded by a virus, were evil. But at the same time, he wouldn't stand for Atsushi or anyone else getting hurt. If that young man had gotten anymore injured, X would have pulled him out of the battle, regardless of how much the human wanted to or not.

In the distance, he saw a boy flung back from an self-created explosion. X winced, and was tempted to help but he focused instead on blasting away the hirichurls here. Safely. No self-detonation needed. He wasn't like a particular someone in the past.

'Ah, am I being scolded?' Atsushi thought, though X's concern was appreciated.

"I heal pretty fast, but I will as long as no one else here gets hurt too bad." Atsushi replied and decided not to mention that being careful never really worked for someone like him, but at least he wasn't getting impaled or shot at. At worse so far, other than Cliff's earlier mishap, was getting bruised up being tossed around, and archers seemed to be being taken care of by others in the group. Getting hurt at this point, was nothing new.

Honestly he wouldn't be surprised if they ended up fighting something stronger than the shield weilding creature along the way, especially if the task they were given was so serious.

A shot rang out during the fighting. Tiger eyes glanced towards were the shot likely came from, enhancing his sight greatly, but it was a brief glance that landed on Anna for only a few seconds before his gaze returned to the Hilichurls still in the area as he continued to fight them off with his ability.

"Let's keep it that way!" the pony exclaims as he rolled a Hilichurl up into a bowling ball and slammed it into some of its comrades in the distance, knocking them down like pins.

"I think the leader's gone. That must mean the little guys are dashing off right about now!"

Following this, the pony raised his two front hooves majestically as he prepared to trample those who were incoming.

At Sandbar's initial response, Kiun gave a curt nod, staying near Aris and Bennett for now in case they needed the assistance, though any Hilichurls Sandbar missed or that tried sneaking up on him would be met with a few lances from the Shinki.

"Hopefully you're right." He sighed. It'd probably be best to ask Bennett how much he knew about the monsters of the land at some point.

"Nngh..."

At first, that quiet, groggy groan was the only sign of life that came from the gaping maws of what could only be described as a mechanical steed. One might've mistaken the thing for some sort of statue, or even a strange piece of art, given the group's unfamiliarity with this land and the fact that the strange object hadn't moved so much as an inch since they'd arrived here. But, soon enough, it would become apparent that this was not just some strange landmark; a flash of blue hair could be seen within, belonging to a girl petit in stature, her hand raising to lackadaisically rub at her eyes with a tired yawn. "Oh, what a strange dream," she mumbled, seemingly to herself. "Sharena, Anna; you wouldn't believe it... I had a dream that I was-- ah!"

Whatever the short girl had intended to say was quickly lost to the wind, for in her quest to sit up, she slammed her head right into the metal overhang of her own mount. She recoiled with a yelp, her hands both placing themselves over her offended forehead with a visible pout. "O-ow...-- Huh?" As intense as the self-inflicted pain currently vibrating her noggin was, something quickly overrode it. A question, simple, but important. Why on earth had she been sleeping in her Seiðjárn? And, equally importantly...

View attachment 11277

Several seconds of panic went by at the realization that she had somehow been whisked away from the camp she'd set up with the Askrans, her head whipping from side to side in order to take in her foreign surroundings. Oh, no. Oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no. Where had she wound up? How had she gotten here? She hoped the others wouldn't worry about her. They'd all helped her so much already, and she didn't know what she'd do if she were to inconvenience them even further. Especially the summoner.

...

Wait a minute. The summoner! Her dream came back to her in full force, vanquishing all thoughts of her pain from her mind. The way the world had shifted and changed before darkness consumed all in sight; the stars that had glimmered brighter than even the most beautiful diamonds before shattering and being scattered across the land; and, finally, a voice, imploring her to lend her assistance. To serve a greater cause. To guide this new world, lost in darkness, back into the light.

"Wow," she gasped, quietly, as realization hit her in full. Her golden eyes widened, as though seeing the world in new light. "That wasn't just a dream, was it...?" If that was the case, then this Alice person must have a power like Kiran's. The ability to summon individuals from across all different worlds and verses, all into one place for one common cause; the salvation of the people. The maintenance of peace. And somehow, despite everything, she had been among the Heroes chosen for the task. But, then, surely there were others, right? No war was easily fought alone, and she had learned well just how important camaraderie was in the face of plight. So--

A variety of crashes, roars, and cries of varying nature disrupted her train of thought, causing her head to whip in the direction from which the melody of battle came. Apparently, whoever the other Heroes that had been called upon were, they must be in trouble! Without a second thought, the girl was on the move, skillfully starting up the machine she was safely cradled with in. "Don't worry!" she called out, her canto ability allowing her to join the fray at impressive speeds despite the seeming bulkiness of her mount. "I'm here to help!" With grace and determination, the metal steed raced onto the battlefield, deftly maneuvering Reginn into a defensive position between Bennett and any remaining hilichurls. She took up position not far from Kiun in that way, an expression of total concentration upon her face as she operated her mech, raising her shield to cover for her apparent allies as she simultaneously unleashed a small wave of targeted missiles upon the remaining beasts with hopes of driving them off. She was late to the party, but at least she came.

After a bit of fighting, the group had managed to kill off all of the hilichurls. They were easy to take on, and despite their numbers, it seemed like they were thinned out relatively quickly.

One final one sprung out from the brush, but Bennett cleaved it in half with his flaming sword.

EvKYE4WVkAERiqv.jpg

"Yes! Okay! That's all of them! Great work team! Things turned out alright for us in the e- UWAH!"

Another hilichurl came out of nowhere and smacked him across the back of his head, but was quickly dispatched by Azul. Rubbing the back of his head, Bennett looked around at the rest of the group confused for a quick moment but quickly got his bearings.

"Alright! Mondstadt's this way!" Bennett said, leading the group onwards.

You could see the gates of Mondstadt in front of you, merchants pouring in and out of a city with windmills blowing with the breeze. A church bell rings and birds fly high. But... there's been another obstacle on your journey to your next destination.

Four beings were standing before the bridge to Mondstadt in a circle, each of them casting magic in the direction of the bridge.

"Crap! They're trying to destroy the bridge!" Bennett yelled, rushing in with his blade out but Sae-byeok stopped him in his tracks with a well-timed grip on the shoulder.

"If you take a second and actually use your eyes," Sae-byeok says, "Maybe you'd see that's not what's happening,"

Bennett looked back and saw what the girl was talking about. A blur of yellow darted through the beings, seemingly fending them off. The blur stopped, revealing itself as a boy wielding a sword.

View attachment 11278

The beings cast spells, which the boy effortlessly dodged. Gripping his sword, he pushed the sword against the magic shields of the beings. A fireball was launched at him, which he caught in mid-air using a gust of wind, before pushing that gust of wind against another forcefield, directing the fireball into it and causing the forcefield to crack. Taking the opportunity, the boy plunged his sword into the being.

The cuffs on his outfit turned from teal to orange, and he summoned a stone to crush another one of the beings. He punched the ground and the bridge rumbled, as the two remaining beings' forcefields crumbled. Jagged stones erupted from the ground, and his cuffs turned back to teal.

He slashed his sword and a tornado appeared, whisking away the two remaining beings. One of them was impaled on the jagged spikes, while the other collapsed on the ground. His cuffs turned from teal to purple, and two purple objects were sent flying at the remaining beast, sending it limp onto the ground.

As the jagged spikes settled and the corpses disintegrated, Bennett grew wide-eyed, almost starry-eyed at the display, before breaking free of Sae-Byeok's grip.

"AETHER!" the boy called out, running to the blonde-haired boy.

The boy turned around and his face lit up when Bennett approached, his face lighting up.

"Bennett!" the boy smiled, bringing the young adventurer into his arms and laughing, "How are you?"

"Oh my god I met so many new friends today! I met another adventurer, and a fierce guy, and a guy with a mask, and... and a future king... and... and..." Bennett's words rushed over each other, excitedly telling Aether about his exploits.

From a spot next to Aether, a small floating girl just... appeared from nowhere...

Seeing the last of the Hiichurls fall, a sigh of relief came from the masked hero; despite the numbers, they seemed rather easy to defeat. Rolling his right arm and arched his back, making sure he didn't put it through too much during the fight. Spidey proceeds to follow the group, remembering to walk as he didn't want a repeat of the Tree. His hazel eyes take note of a bridge on the horizon, then...seemingly another obstacle. Though, this didn't trigger his Spider-Sense.

Observing a reunion among companions or associates, the seasoned hero places his hands behind his head. Peter had to admit, that it was good for Bennett to see some faces he recognizes. Seeing the reunion taking place made Spider-Man reminiscence about his own friends and allies, whether they were alive, retired, or are long dead. A crestfallen sigh escapes his lips, feeling rather homesick already.

"Friends of circumstance, is more like it," Bashir replied to the new face. After the fighting he had taken to look over anyone who needed. He didn't have much of his tools with him but he was still a doctor.

"Yes, yes we are all very mysterious and affable," Garak remarks before pointing over to the gate. "If it's not too much of a bother, could we discuss this inside?"

Once the group had continued on, and Kiun had went to check on Bennett after getting attacked by one last Hilichurl that Azul luckily took care of the blonde had been more than ready to attack any other supposed threats on the way to their destination until someone else took care of the beings trying to destroy the bridge the group came upon. Well, at least Bennett had found a familiar face and given the boy's reaction, this Aether was an ally to them.

Still not the oddest thing he's encountered.

"Yeah we're more or less friends of Bennett's." Atsushi spoke up. It seemed like they were practically at their destination, which meant that they may have been closer to getting answers. At least, he hoped so.

"I met him like five minutes ago. "Friends" is a bit of a strong word, kid," Cliff only said brusquely in response to the blonde boy, shaking his head stiffly. "But sure, whatever. We were asked to help you with your dark lord problem, so it's more like, you're our clients if you think about it."

Cliff was just being rude for no reason, which was just part of his modus operandi.

Case in point.

"Or what the Six Million Ethnicity Man here said. Friends of circumstance... translation; against our own will," he went on, gesturing toward Bashir in question as he made an antiquated reference that only a man his age would probably get, before giving a blink with his metallic eyelids.

"... Sorry, that wasn't meant to be like, a racist thing. It's just, y'know, the British accent's a little confusing next to the rest of you," the Robotman continued as he looked toward Bashir, before also gesturing at Garak. "Not as confusing as your alien boyfriend, but hey, I guess we get that liberal future in the end after all."

Okay, maybe he reveled in it a little bit.

With the last of the hilichurls slain, Soma sighed in relief. Despite outnumbering the group, the enemy was overpowered to a more significant degree. Having a degree of certainty that not a single soul was forcibly absorbed by the power dwelling within him, he followed Bennet and the rest to their destination.

"I think we're more like acquaintances for now. I just only met them not long ago," the lad in white brushed his hair lightly with his hands as introduced himself meekly, "But I don't mind having people to trust in a situation like this."

Soma was still wary of some members of the group, like the eccentric talking horse and the excessively rude golem, but he had a gut feeling that Bennet and the blonde boy are trustworthy figures, which is just enough for him to not go paranoid.

"Bennett as your guide?" Aether smiled and laughed, a hint of disbelief in his voice, "That's harder to believe than you all coming from other worlds"

"Really…?" Azul briefly said, "I mean, the boy himself said he gets lost a lot but… how the hell can you… believe we're all from other worlds!?"

"In a sense, I'm like you all," Aether interrupted, "I, too, am from another world,"

Aether listened to what Atsushi, Soma, and Julian had to say, and when Cliff spoke the boy winced.

"Well, Bennett described you as friends so…" The boy said, bashfully rubbing the back of his head, "But… taking people from other worlds unwillingly, that's interesting… I've never traveled into another world unwillingly… and a dark lord…"

"Sorry to interrupt but… what the hell is that?" Sae-byeok said, pointing at the floating girl yelling at Sandbar.

The name's Spider-Man," the seasoned hero introduces himself in a slight-comedic bow. "And I gotta say, this place looks pretty swell, despite the circumstances and we hafta stop a dark lord, but I think most of us here are used to it."

Though he was among others who wore masks, Peter didn't too comfortable taking off his mask and revealing his identity; even if he was in another dimension. If he could be pulled from his home universe, twice by his recent count, he fears for his loved ones; including Mary Jane, with who he was working on rekindling things after so long apart.

"So, you're from another world as well, Aether? The song is called 'It's a small world', definitely not 'It's a small multiverse' when you really get into the quantum mechanics of it all."

Relieved that it seemed that Bennett had recovered and the enemy forces had dwindled, princess Reginn released a sigh, letting her guard down only once she was certain they were in the clear. What an exciting welcome to a new world! "Huh? Oh! It's not a problem at all!" she offered in response to Kiun, flashing him a bright smile. She definitely felt more awake now, that much was certain. But, uh, she was definitely still just as confused regarding where exactly she was... and who all these people were. Definitely heroes, but some of their appearances weren't really expected. She momentarily wondered if the metal man was another Seiðjárn wielder, but she quickly realized that wasn't the case. Odd. Still, she didn't really have time to think about it, given that it seemed like the group was already trying to move on. In the past, she undoubtedly would've happily followed blindly, but...

"Um, I apologize for lending a hand and then immediately having questions, but... Do you know what world this is?" she awkwardly, quietly asked Kiun as they walked, not wanting to disrupt the group at large. "And where's the summoner? What was her name again... Alice, I think?" Surely she had to be around, right? Kiran never abandoned newly summoned heroes, and she imagined someone so virtuous as to set out to save a whole world must've had similar approaches!

...

It was only by the time they'd made it to Aether that she realized herself. "Oh! I'm so sorry!!! Please, forgive my manners; let me start again. I am princess Reginn of Niðavellir. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance," she corrected, giving a half-bow from within her mechanical steed. "It's true that we've only just met, but I'm certain we'll all be full-on friends soon! It's always an honor to meet more Heroes, after all." On the other hand... had that horse just talked? That was a little new, even for her. But maybe it was something like the Taguel or Manaketes...? Ah, it'd likely be rude to ask at this point. She needed to focus on the important things!

"Mondstadt... Is that the name of that kingdom ahead?" It was a bit smaller than what she was used to, but that hardly mattered. It interested her that Aether had mentioned an ability to travel from world to world of his own volition. Perhaps he was similar to the Askran royalty? "Wonderful! Thank you for your kindness. Is there anything we need to know before entering the kingdom? Do we need to prepare any sort of gift?" She imagined not, given that they were from other worlds and had been drawn here by forces out of their control, but she still recalled just how confusing royals could be at times. She definitely knew she was going to struggle, now that her brothers were gone and she was the newly appointed heir. In fact, she really hoped Dagr and Nótt were handling the kingdom alright in her absence.

"PAIMON'S NOT EMERGENCY FOOD!" she yelled, as if she was used to being compared to an edible piece of food. She huffed her cheeks in anger, "Paimon's inedible! No ands, ifs, or buts about it!"

Sae-byeok was as confused as Kiun, and sensing this confusion, Aether stepped in.

"You'd be surprised at how often that happens... haha..." Aether said, slightly giggling.

Aether gave the group a courteous bow before speaking again.

Kiun only grew more confused when Aether said that this happened often. How unfortunate for Paimon.

His gaze went to Reginn briefly. After the battle, initially he had to think of how he'd explain what little he knew in regards to their situation. Or at least, regarding the young woman named Alice.

"I am Kiun, vessel to my Lord Takemikazuchi. It's a pleasure to meet you even in these circumstances, Lady Reginn." He greeted with a small bow of his own, before straightening up and giving a tilt of his head.

"Maybe this Alice is in Mondstadt or elsewhere? She probably used a lot of energy to bring in such a large group to one place. We hadn't seen her since waking up in this world. " He suggested thoughtfully to the blue haired princess.

"Is there anywhere our group could temporarily stay in Mondstadt while we're here? I'm assuming we're going to be here for a while, even if we end up just passing through here." Atsushi spoke to Aether. There was no telling how long they'd stay in this world, but it didn't hurt to ask in case.

Bashir gives Cliff an incredulous look before looking over to Garak, who gives the doctor a playful shrug, before Bashir's focus shifts back to Cliff. "No uuuh, Cliff, that's...that's alright. People have said that they can be quite distracted by my voice."

"My good doctor, I don't think that is always meant to be a compliment," Garak chimes in, making Bashir look awkwardly around before coughing.

"Yes! Well, Cliff, I understand the circumstances aren't the best, but I hope you will take this as a. What's the word I'm searching for...elevating. Yes, elevating experience. To your mind as well as your...body." Realizing what he said Bashir hastily added. "Sorry."

"Huh! Elevating..." Cliff seemed to scoff at Bashir's words, quickly put off by the comment about his robotic body. It seemed that he wasn't entirely able to take what he tended to dish out. "And I hope you'll 'scuse me if I take what you say with a grain of salt. Last time I put any stock in a doctor with a British accent that was probably as fake as the tits on my bachelor party's dancer, I got royally fucked over, so we'll see about that."

Before too long however, the conversation from the center of the group caught Cliff's attention regarding their situation and their prospective guides, if they were gonna be sticking around with people who called this place home.

Raising his hand, Cliff spoke toward Paimon and Aether. "Yeah uh, what I said about a dark lord. What's the dealio with 'em exactly? I'm sure they've done enough fucked up shit if it warrants bringing peeps like us from other worlds, but ah, is there a specific game plan regarding that? Like you got a magic jail or something? 'Cause if this involves killing 'em, you can count me out. I don't kill people."

...

"I mean, I've killed Nazis before, but I'd never kill a person. Know what I mean? Ha!"

Clank!

Cliff slapped his own metallic knee, before raising his hand once again, this time holding out for a high five.

"Anyone?"

"Wat-"

A split second, and the final hilichurl that had attacked the boy disappated, leaving no sign of its existence. The reploid withdrew his cannon gradually, the static-like whirling in his system begin to quiet down. All things considered, everyone seemed to be safe, and their destination was nearby. That's all that mattered to X.

Still, he couldn't help stare at the ground where the hirichurls perished. Strange. He knew some of the mavericks he dealt with tended to explode, leaving no remains of the reploid that once was. But shouldn't organic beings leave a grim reminder of their death behind?

To be honest with himself, X didn't really care enough to question it.

By the time X stopped inspecting his surroundings, and began to run towards the four strange creatures, the blond boy had already put them down. The boy had fascinating powers that he switched between seemlessly. It nearly reminded X of his own weapon changes from defeated mavericks.

And the fairy-elf floating beside him. This world seemed strange, but X liked it. It wasn’t as if the colt, who caused X to chuckle and remark lightly was any less strange.

“H-hey, it’s a bit too close to home to try and eat something that’s talking, isn’t it?” Perhaps he hadn’t eaten before he was transported here? “Besides, pardon my insensitivity, but I thought horses didn’t eat meat.”

The boy, Aether introduced himself as from another world as well. X replied, in a good mood.

“I’m X, I’m not sure if this world has robots but that’s who I am. I’m glad this Mondstadt has someone powerful like you to defend it, I promise you we won’t cause any trouble.”

But the last few words faltered, as they blew away in the vast winds. It took only a second for X’s voice to become more commanding.

“Speaking of which, we’ve received knowledge from this ‘Alice’ woman that a Dark Lord is endangering this place. There’s been no signs of an incident or of the people being under attack, has there?”

"I'm sorry, I must have forgotten my manners. My name's Aether, this right here is Paimon,"

"Hello!" Paimon waved, before Aether continued.

"I am an honorary knight of the Knights of Favonius, and regardless of your relationship with Bennett you are welcome here in Mondstadt,"

"An honorary knight..." Soma thought to himself for a second. Upon hearing the title, he felt Aether appeared to be a very reliable person to the city of Monstadt for an outlander like himself and the other. With the combative display that he had witnessed not so long ago, he believed that he had the position for a good reason. He nodded slightly at the thought of this.

Raising his hand, Cliff spoke toward Paimon and Aether. "Yeah uh, what I said about a dark lord. What's the dealio with 'em exactly? "Anyone?"

Though he found the joke actually funny, Soma only chuckled and took a short glance at Cliff in response It wouldn't be a surprise if it ever turned out that Dracula's castle secretly had a superhuman Nazi or two and he simply did not come across any of them.

"Anyways, it's nice to meet you Aether," he bowed in greeting, "And thank you very much for the welcome. Is there anything we need to know about Monstadt?" Soma expressed his interest in knowing about the city for a bit. At the same time, he is concerned that he might end up in a culture shock of sorts. He also wanted to ask about the villainous entity the group was sent to combat right after, but the others had spared him the effort of attempting to do so.

"Ehe… thanks," Aether said, "I'm not sure who this Sir Galahad is, but… I assume he's a hero,"

Aether turned to Reginn, and gave her a courteous smile before answering her question.

"Mondstadt isn't a kingdom. In fact, it doesn't have a rule. Mondstadt's the city of freedom," Aether said, "So, no need to prepare a gift,"

Aether turned his back to the group, but looked over his shoulder to speak again.

"I'll answer your other questions inside. Let's go in before the sun gets too low,"

The streets of Mondstadt were lively and filled with people, all of whom seemed friendly. They smiled and waved to each other, and sometimes even to you.

Most of the welcomes were from men and women in armor. One would assume they were the Knights of Favonius, of which Aether was an honorary member of.

While walking through the streets, Aether spoke to you all.

"To answer your question about lodging, there's plenty of inns around Mondstadt,"

"Oooh! Oooh! We can stay at the Cathedral!" Bennett said, excitedly jumping in his step, "Miss Barbara would totally give you all a place to sleep!"

Aether chuckled, "We could do that. I'm… kinda out of mora…"

The honorary knight shot a dirty look to Paimon.

"Ehehe…"

However, Aether soon stopped in his tracks before turning to the group.

"So… what's this about a dark lord? I don't know any dark lord…" Aether spoke.

"The person in our… vision… said her name was the Tsaritsa…"

Aether's eyes widened in recognition, "The Tsaritsa…? I've heard of her, never met her. She's the Archon of Ice, ruler of Snezhnaya and…"

"And leader of those Fatui jerks!" Paimon cut in.

"…Yeah," Aether said after a small pause, "We've dealt with a few of them already. If you were summoned here specifically for the purpose of defeating the Tsaritsa, then they might be even more of a threat than we thought,"

"Paimon heard from the white haired kid that the person who summoned them their is named Alice," Paimon said, "Could it be Alice of the Hexenzirkel?"

"Could be…" Aether said before turning to you, "Tell me, was this Alice person bubbly? Like, eccentric?"

'A totally different universe, Parker,' the masked man thought to himself at Aether's question of Galahad. Learning that Mondstadt is a kingdom made Peter slightly curious about studying its history, but he reminded himself that he and everyone else were on an urgent mission. Shifting his hazel eyes behind the lenses of the mask shift to the sky, he agreed to finish the conversation later.

"Now that you mention it," he begins to ponder back on the moment before being sent away from his home universe. "Alice did seem chipper for somebody who had to send some people on a quest, especially if it's against an 'Archon of Ice'. Man, I wish Doc Strange was here, Me and magic do not mix," the seasoned hero shudders, remembering the brutal battle against the energy Vampire known as Morlun.

Ashe and Sougo managed to defeat the Hilichurls, detransforming for the time being, the group would follow Bennett to what appeared to be a walled castle surrounded by a lake--defending it was a blonde youth and a floating child-thing.

Aether and Paimon--honorary knights of Favonius.

"Woah...I've never met actual knights before." Sougo admits, observing Aether. He's a good fighter, that much he can tell. Letting them into the walled city, the situation was briefed into Aether and Paimon, who had heard of both the Tsaritsa and Alice--the later of whom appeared to be quite famous.

"Well, she was cheerful...Oddly cheerful, to boot." Ashe answered, "You'd expect some cosmic being asking you to save the world to be more serious, right?" She asked with a shrug.

Sougo however, have other questions in mind.

"What's an Archon?" The Future King asked, scratching his head at the term.
