Ame Damnee Temple of Reverence [Daemon's Cradle Retrieval]

Aman

Dragon Priestess
Benefactor
A place of prayer and worship for those who follow the teachings of Lucifer. Although there are other smaller churches and shrines dedicated to both him and other deities (excluding Aditi), this looming edifice acts as the main house of religion in the city. Many citizens come here daily to pray and offer tribute to their Lord, commonly with small things such as glass marbles and animal teeth.

Some suspect that Daemon's Cradle may be hidden somewhere within the many adjacent rooms and hallways of the Temple, but this has not been proven. Those devoted to Satan, the Reverends, live and work in the vast halls of this grandiose limestone building; holding sermons and other related occasions. Marriages and pig blood baptisms are held here as well.

Upon first entering the building, you will be immediately greeted with the throne room. There is technically no king or queen, but it was built anyway with two thrones, nonetheless. There appears to be a strange gap next to one of the thrones, as if another one used to be there before it was taken down. Either way, the place is rarely used by anyone except for the Reverends, and some formal meetings at the extremely long dining table.

The Temple of Reverence, Storage Rooms

It was nigh instantaneous after stepping into the portal that they appeared on the other side, and Aeriseth calmly walked out into the room to lead the other two inside. Immediately, one would notice how dusty and dimly lit it was. Though there was a small, dirty window on one side, only a sliver of soft gray light entered through it. The room itself wasn't exceptionally large, but the three of them were able to stand up and keep their distance from each other comfortably as needed. Most of the space was taken up by wooden crates of all sizes, labeled with different things such as 'salted meats', 'chalices', 'dinner plates' and more. The place looked like it wasn't regularly used, and had the curious scent of molding wood. Seating herself on one of the crates, the Envoy crossed her legs and rested her chin in her hand as she stared at Anariel yet again, expectantly but still with that undertone of lust and longing.

"No one will bother us here, so go ahead and tell us what you came here for. I'm a very good listener, I promise." Her teeth glinted as she smiled, and she glanced towards Alexander momentarily. It had been a little while since she'd directly interacted with him - seeing as they both preferred to hide out inside of their mansions and rarely leave. Plus, the man was a creature of the night, so she could only imagine how much he didn't want to be here right now. She offered him a mischievous look, the crate creaking underneath her as she leaned back against the wall and folded her hands in her lap. This was just an abandoned storage room in the back of the temple, and as much as she'd rather be somewhere more extravagant, she respected that today was a big day and there were too many people about to be discussing these things in the public eye. The walls might not have ears, but people do.

Anariel followed Aeriseth through the portal, shuddering ever so slightly at the feel of it against her skin as she entered the store room. It was the last thing she'd expected, but the surprise faded from her face within moments. Adapt and survive, even if you are extremely powerful.

"If you listened as well as you said, and I let my guard down, things would be very different, Aeriseth. You and I both know that you hold yourself back from your desires, though whether out of respect or fear is anyone's guess." She cleared her throat before continuing. "I came to your city today to inform you that the Warden Grandmaster has passed beyond this world." She held the silence, solemn. After letting the silence stretch briefly, she looked from one Envoy to the other, curious.

"Your celebration wouldn't have anything to do with this occurrence, would it? I suspect my compatriots would find that to be more than reason enough to allow me to set myself loose as I would..." She let the unspoken threat hang, knowing that despite it being a two-on-one situation, that she could escape if nothing else. She hoped it wouldn't come to that, however, as she had a more personal matter she wanted to look into while in the City of Sin.

Aeriseth watched Anariel as she spoke, seeming to be listening but, in truth, her gaze was focused on other places. She kept imagining how the archangel would look without all of that pesky armor covering her curves and leaving everything to the imagination. Her eyes scrolled down her body and then back up as she talked, and she nodded, not actually paying much attention. "Mmhm. I see." As soon as the other woman cleared her throat, though, the Envoy straightened up and looked directly at her, her eyebrows furrowed in mild confusion. So the old bat's taken his last breath, then? Another mortal kicking the bucket is of no concern to me. Was all she thought, leaning forward and resting her elbows on her knees with a smirk. "That's too bad. Guess you're stuck with that lout Raakshdos now, hmm?"

With a laugh that held nothing but derision, the succubus looked towards Alexander as if he were part of the joke. "Celebrating the death of New Eden's leader! Surely you jest! Anariel, sweetie, do you really think that we would hold a ceremony for something as trivial as that? That's like having a party for washing the dishes." Chuckling again, Aeriseth stood up, brushing her hair back from her face as she did so. "How could you forget our annual festival for the celebration of Abaddon's founding? Ethos? 634 years? Ring a bell?" Putting on a fake pouty face, she crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm hurt, really. Is it because I forgot to invite you? If so, I do apologize. But, you're here now, and rather early. I could, show you around~"

Alexander stepped into the musty storage room right after Anariel and stood on the opposite end of where Lilith was sitting. Alexander kept his gaze on Anariel and waited for her response to as why she needed to talk to them. This for the most part so far as been a huge waste of time and Alexander did not like when his time was being wasted. If what Anariel says turns out to be nothing he would just simply leave not even giving her an answer but... he did not like the idea of the Ethereal being around and if it was up to Lillith she could possibly never leave which caused Alexander to sigh quietly.

Alexander thought about what Anariel just said about the death of the Warden and was not sure how to feel about that. It really was something that was trivial to him and making him come out to talk just for a death of a mere mortal was foolish. But at the same time... why would an Ethereal like Anariel come all the way to tell them about news that did not matter? That part was something that seemed to stand out to Alexander and had him thinking about other reasons of why she was here. He did not trust her not one bit and would much rather have her escorted out of the city. Also another thing that seemed to bug him was the fact the Ethereal was thinking they were at fault and putting the blame on them like humans often did and this put him in an even more sour mood. Before he could respond to that statement Lilith had started to speak.

Lilith's answer was sufficient enough to where did not have to give an answer except for the joking at the end which was how conversations tend to end a lot of the times. So everything was a big waste of time and there was no real need for the Ethereal to be here. "If that is all you have to say Anariel then be on your way," he simply said as if the conversation was not interesting enough for him to care.

"Ethos? I do not remember such an event. Of course, when your city was being founded, I was preparing my forces for war. It was not like I was paying much attention to the celebrations when I had, at the time, a need to pay more attention to your defenses." She leveled her gaze at Alexander, then shook her head. "I have other business to attend to in the city, but perhaps I should make this more clear."

"With the death of the Grandmaster, New Eden finds itself in a precarious place. Raakshdos is competent, but he is not a leader of the people, unlike his predecessor. While we have maintained a peace since the end of the war, it behooves us to ensure the stability of things in the days and months and years to come. Many in your city will see this as an opportune time to strike at my people, which is tactically sound but poor judgement. There are those in New Eden who would see Raakshdos take more men into the Wardens to train them for combat as only such an elite unit can be trained." She paused for a moment.

"Unless you truly desire war again, and on a scale equal to or greater than that of before, I advise you heed my words. While we may have been enemies in the past, I have found myself more than capable of seeing you both as, if nothing else, political allies to ensure peace is kept between our cities. Perhaps now you understand why I was sent, instead of another, lesser messenger." She seated herself lightly on one of the boxes in the room, the old wood barely creaking as her weight shifted onto it. She was concerned for her city's safety, and while she suspected that the Envoys before her were hiding something more from her, she couldn't help but try to convince them to at least keep their citizens at bay.

Letting out a very long and exaggerated sigh, Aeriseth rolled her eyes and looked towards the window. "I suppose that could be somewhat serious." She scratched her cheek as she thought, closing her eyes for a brief moment. Sounds like a hassle... And truly, war would be a hassle. Now she realized the true weight of the archangel's words, and how it could potentially affect them in a negative way. As much as she detested getting serious, this was actually a pressing matter, even for Abaddon. "Well, we can't exactly control what our people do." She shrugged. The thought of attacking New Eden hadn't even crossed her mind. It seemed like way too much of a bother, even if their Warden Grandmaster had just died, which would likely make them vulnerable for awhile.

"Alright, alright, your words have been heeded, yada yada. Though most of our citizens are far less interested in your little metropolis than you might think. It shouldn't be a problem." Waving her hand dismissively, she gestured for Anariel to stand and glanced at the portal that was still open. No one would have been able to enter it besides the three of them, so she simply kept it open for this brief meeting. "Anyway, I'm out of here. Whatever business you need to attend to before leaving, see to it presently. The festival still needs to begin." Blowing a kiss towards Anariel, she beckoned to Alexander. "Come on, let's leave her be. We've heard what we needed to." Without waiting for either of them, she just left again, bound for the Clock Tower once more. Ethos would begin soon, and it was just one of her many duties to make sure that it came along smoothly. Too much work to do...

Anariel watched as Aeriseth stood and walked out, glad to see that her words had not fallen on deaf ears. She looked at Alexander for a moment.

"Keep her under a close eye, Alexander. I have my own fears that go beyond what I've spoken, and they are for those things beyond either your domain or my own. The great wheels are turning once more, but I do not know where they shall take us." She stood and shuffled a bit, ensuring her armor was sitting comfortably before stepping through the portal. Once outside, she would spread her wings, soaring skyward without hesitation, only to hold herself several hundred feet above the ground, watching the goings on of the city below.

War was something that never changed and Alexander just shrugged slightly when Anariel looked at him as she mentioned that. It was a long time ago and the war was really over something not important but that is what happens when you side with the humans. However he did not like the fact that the Angel made it clear that she was not leaving and had other business to take care of in their town and it bothered Alexander slightly. He would have to keep a close eye out on the Angel since he knew trying to make her leave would most likely result in a fight that at this time would be bad. He mused at the thought of fighting her again though he wondered how long it would take for him to tear apart the Angel. While thinking about that thought Alexander seemed to have lost interest in the rest of what Anariel said.

Lilith started to speak now but still he did not have the slightest interest in what was being talked about. It was a stupid reason to let an Ethereal into the city and it also did not make sense to him why Anariel even told them about something that was trivial to them. However the information about the new warden was useful and he wondered why Anariel had told them such information and Alexander began to ponder about the angel's motives. Alexander did not trust her but then again he never trusted anyone but Lilith whenever she became serious about something. Then just as quickly the conversation had started it also ended. Lilith seemed to want to leave and that was fine with Alexander but he was not going to leave with Lilith as he wanted to as always keep a close eye on his enemies. Alexander watched as Lilith left through her portal and then waited for Anariel to do the same. Anariel then looked his way and said something to him that he did not take for granted. He simply nodded at her as she then got up and headed out of the portal leaving Alexander by himself in the storage room.

He stood there for a moment thinking about what Anariel had said to him before she left and for some reason he could not get it out of his head. He then stepped out of the portal and was now behind the clock tower where the door was that lead to the portal where his home was and sighed. Today felt like it was going to be a long one and it just barely begun.

Under the guise of unknown orders, soldiers began to quickly spread out across the area, standing guard not only outside the temple but inside as well, manning every door and corner of the grand hall. Not a soul would be permitted in the vicinity, citing preparations for the Ethos.

Standing on the temple steps

Anariel stood, watching the guards at their posts. She had come to the temple for a host of reasons, some less pure than others, but had been barred entrance without even being given the opportunity to make an explanation of why she was there. She had tried to simply walk in at first, but they had barred her physically. The archangel had debated solving that problem martially, but knew that doing so would put her square into the hands of the city's laws, which she deeply desired to avoid.

She had even tried coercion, thinking that in a city like Abaddon, the guards would be more than easily corrupted, but the attempts had failed. Granted, she had attempted to use coin, which would have been less likely to work when compared to something like her body, but she had no desire to even put the thought into their minds, regardless of their discipline. Unfortunately, they were as stoic as those in New Eden, which was much to her surprise.

So she now stood on the temple's steps, tapping a foot soundlessly against the smooth marble. She needed to get inside, because if there was anywhere one would keep something as potentially devastating as the Cradle, it would be here. Something all the grovelers of the city could prostrate themselves before in hopes it might do something for them. She suspected that it was more akin to the Plume, which was pretty, but hadn't ever done much that she'd noticed. She wouldn't know, sadly, until she beheld it in person, however, hence her need to enter the temple to look for it. As she watched the guards, she did her best to figure out which was most uncomfortable, possibly most susceptible to trickery and deception.

As chaos erupted outside, stone golems started sprouting from the ground like shrubs, which forced the militia standing guard within the temple to spring into action. Abandoning their posts, they paid little to no attention to the Ethereal as they headed towards the town square in their effort to defend the people. The temple was left completely defenseless...

Within

As the guards shot out into the city, the archangel saw her chance. She wouldn't let the opportunity to get sight on the Cradle go to waste, even if it meant she would have to answer for her actions eventually. Perfection had no other options, and with that goal in mind, neither did she.

With the speed of a warrior and of her kin, Anariel dashed into the temple with a rustle of her feathers. She flapped once, shoving the air behind her for a small burst of speed, before hiding her wings entirely, a softly glowing tattoo of them appearing on her back beneath her armor and clothing. She was inside. Unfortunately, the temple's layout was different form that of the great temple in New Eden, so she was at a loss. She took a moment, however, and calmed her now-rushing mind, pulsing out a single wave of sound.

She sent it through the air around her, and into the stones beneath her feet, seeking a response of some kind. Though it had proven useful at least once in her lifetime, Anariel knew this technique was poor at best, but she had no option to do this except quickly, and as much as she wished to, she could not travel as fast as the sounds of the world. Unfortunately, she found nothing with her first search, and opened her eyes once more.

With a resigned sigh, she allowed her wings to return to their glory, spreading them out to act as a dim light in the darkness of the temple. She'd seen the sudden opening in the clouds outside, and she wished to join the battle she'd heard, but her plans were otherwise. Drawing her blade, lest whatever had befallen the city strike here without warning while the guards were away, the Ethereal pressed further into the temple, eventually standing in the entrance-way to the temple's Undercroft.

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. Something could be heard clawing into the earth, drilling its way underneath a secret chamber that sat inside the temple, just behind the ceremonial throne room. The chamber, in particular, was thought impenetrable, with no soul on Terrestria outside of The Envoy’s knowing its location. Inside was the Daemon’s Cradle, a priceless object with untold power.

The tunnel that had been dug beneath the temple hadn’t been there before, and there was no telling how long it had taken to construct, but one thing was for certain… they had accomplished their goal.
The Daemon's Cradle was gone!

The sounds echoed through the vast crypt below the temple, and those echoes called Anariel to action. Something down here was very wrong, even for a city like Abaddon. She flared her wings out to either side, glad that when the temples both here and at home had been constructed, they'd been made with extremely open spaces, and then let their inner light shine. Though not well-practiced with light-based magics, Anariel's wings glowed with the light of a bonfire, radiant and pure. The darkness around her fled fast as the wind, revealing a large section of the crypt that had caved into a tunnel beneath.

The archangel paused for a moment, confused. There had never been tunnels down here. She'd made certain that, save for artistic leeway, the architecture of both this temple and the one in New Eden were architecturally the same: sister cities with sister temples. She furled her wings ever so slightly as she approached the tunnel, then realized it would fit her comfortably. That meant she could fight in it, if the need arose, but now that she had something to follow, she set out.

With a quick prayer to Aditi for sure strikes and restless endurance, Anariel sallied forth, blade drawn and wings held to provide light from behind her. After unknown spans of time, for beneath the ground her sense of time was lost, she arrived in an extremely well-made and gorgeous, if somewhat profane, room. It was larger than she had expected, and there was what appeared to be an altar in the center.

The altar was no more than a heap of rubble scattered about an ornate plinth, and anything that had rested there was either gone or simply annihilated like the stone itself. Anariel sighed somewhat, picking about the rubble. A scrap of metal glinted as she turned, and when she bent to look at it more closely, she recognized it as a plaque.

"on's Crad-", she said softly, her mind understanding. She was where they had kept it hidden. She'd been so close without knowing, but now that it was gone, she'd have to swap plans. And yet, there was the other end of the tunnel which she had not followed. Whatever had made it had done so recently, and had simply fled back out the way it had come the sounds she'd heard simply whatever beast digging through the rubble from the collapse.

The archangel spun, seeing a creature of stone slowly forming from the loose rock and rubble of the tunnel. She stepped forward and slashed at the same time. With her speed and skill, the blade of her sword passed deep into the still-forming torso of the creature and out the other side, drastically slowing the blade as it exited. She did not make any noise of victory, simply stepping over the body before her. She had work to do and no golems would stop her. Not now.

With steps more fleet than many of the swiftest mortals, Anariel began to track the tunnel to it's origin, the distance melting before her like wax before a flame.

Galizur’s vision hadn’t come true yet, not before he made it to the temple to clear any doubt in his mind. The attack was just the first part, but what came after was what truly troubled him. At the temple, things were quiet, almost too quiet as most of the guards had fled and now were spread out across the city to help the wounded. In their incompetence, they had left their most cherished treasure unprotected, which only lead Galizur to believe what he witnessed earlier had come to fruition. The Daemon’s Cradle was stolen.

Not much was known about the Daemon’s Cradle. It was, as far as anyone knew, an indestructible object of untold power. No one quite knew what it was capable of, only that the divine had come to fear it. Some believed it brought Hope, and others Despair - hence why the Daemon’s Cradle and Aditi’s Plume respectively were referred to as such.

Inside the temple, even Galizur was unaware of where exactly the Daemon’s Cradle rested; nonetheless, it didn’t take long to stumble into the crypt below which had caved into the tunnels dug underneath. The tunnel seemed to stretch into different directions, one leading further into the temple while the other lead deep into Oblitus. To follow the temple would lead you to a secret chamber which would confirm that the Daemon’s Cradle was indeed gone.

Galizur had to inform his least favorite person in the world… Aeriseth. Although, she did just make attempts to save him, so, maybe there was hope after all.

Mina passed by the temple, her cloak streaming behind her from her swift walk. She was still trying to wrap her head around all that had happened today; one minute she was doing her regular dance routine in the Town Square, and the next minute, chaos. Still, she seemed to have the presence of mind to run for home when everything started. That had to count for something.

At this point, Mina was on guard for anything to happen. From the sounds of it, the battle had ended, but with giant golem crawling out of the ground, one couldn't be too careful.

The temple was in a strange state, especially with the Daemon’s Cradle missing and the remains of a golem resting in the now empty chamber. Galizur had a mind to follow the trail but knew his inexperience would only hold him back – regardless of his recent displays. Bursting through the temple doors and into the courtyard, he moved with haste towards the streets, hardly paying attention as he ran right into…

Stumbling onto the ground, the young boy, Galizur, hardly even looked to see what or who he’d run into before speaking. “Excuse me! Why don’t you watch where you’re going? Don’t you know who I am?” There was a chance they didn't; after all, he wasn't always that hard to miss.

Mina couldn't contain the yelp of surprise that escaped her mouth when someone ran into her. The dancer managed to keep her footing, but she was probably going to have a pretty nasty bruise on her side from the impact. When she regained her composure, she wasn't too happy.

"Hey, you ran into me!" she snapped. "And no, I don't know who you are. Should I?" Mina looked the kid up and down with a hint of disdain.

"Your damn right you should know who I am!" Ordinarily, Galizur probably would have taken it easy on her once he came to his senses, but clearly, like him, she had a mouth on her. "I am The Forsaken Prince, Galizur; son of the Envoy, Aeriseth." On an average day, he rarely touted his credentials, preferring to go unnoticed; although, as time went on, he tired of others underestimating him. He knew he could change the world someday, with or without anyone's help.

"If I had but a moment to spare, I would have you lashed for your disrespect." Finally crawling to his feet, he brushed the dirt off him. "While your primitive mind may not understand this concept, I have important things to attend to! Someone stole the Daemon's Cradle and-." Galizur probably shouldn't have said that, which he quickly realized before covering his mouth, cursing himself.
