The Steel House was founded during the colonization period of the Galactic Dominion. The original colonists crash landed on the world, classified as Scion, and while the colony vessel was rather intact upon landing, the Colonists had landed on the holy site of a sentient race known as the Volkites. The Volkites attacked relentlessly, forcing the Colonists to fend off the attacks on a near weekly and sometimes daily basis. When the Colonists contacted the Dominion for assistance, the Dominion rejected their requests. Forced to fend for themselves the Colonists held on for several years until the attacks became less and less frequent, giving the Colonists time to breath, build and innovate. The Colonists' began to research and develop their own technology, to fend off their alien attackers, developing technology such as Power Armor, Razorback weaponry, and Refractor Shields. Their greatest accomplishment however, and one that would turn the time in, at this point, centuries long war, came in the form of the Warlord, A 50ft tall metal monster, piloted by a single person, with the use of a neural link, allowing the pilot to become the machine and see what it sees, and feel what it feels.
This new weapon was enough to topple tanks with a single kick or destroy entire infantry lines singlehandedly, allowing the Colonists to turn the tide in the War, and eventually drove the Volkites off their home world of Scion. Left to their own accord, the colonists began worshipping the Warlords as Machine Gods, and formed a society where the ruling class would consist of the Warlord Pilots, and the Machine Cult, a religious order dedicated to the maintenance, invention, and worship of technology that sprung due to the Warlord worship. As time went by the new Steel House and their Pilots, after given began indulging in feudal rule, with the House no longer being a military order, but a Knightly Order, with their primary goal being the protection of their people and maintaining the Honor and Courage of those before them.
As the centuries rolled by the House began to expand as the House a number of Warlords and whatever civilians that would join to new space in order to form new Houses, this would be known as the First Founding as the House would do a Founding every millennia. The first Founding consists of House Ulmarc, the original Steel House, House Fillado, House Vivant, and House Havastar. The new Houses were given a set of rules, known as the Code of the Warlord. When the Steel Houses were contacted by the Galactic Dominion, during their 25th Founding, the Steel House went to War, not out of hatred or vengeance, but to establish themselves to be a real powerhouse in the Galaxy. The Houses have long since hated the idea of being ruled by a single, weak, and corrupt force and have long decided that each House will act as an independent empire, guided only by the Code of the Warlord, and bound only by the common heritage they all share. Still the Houses lend their forces to the Dominion and whoever else for a healthy amount of resources and wealth as they have proven themselves to be a frightening and terrible force to fight.
