The Virus [Small Group]

Even though it was late October and Autumn was starting to rear it’s head, the sun didn't seem to want to stop shining on the growing city of Lionsdale, Florida. It’s warm enough for girls to wear shorts and for boys to take their shirts off. At least, normally it would be, had an entire school of teenagers not been infected by a strange virus, named the 'Ulladie' virus, just one month ago.

The streets are emptier than usual, only a few business men bustling around on their way to work. People are very careful not to get into crowds nowadays. Don’t want to get sick. Most of the business people look to be Disease Agents, by the look of their dark blue suits and their thin, practical gas masks. So many of them in one place could only mean bad things.

Of course, no one who was infected would be in the city to see this. That was a death sentence; Disease Agents noticed every little thing. Any infected person with half a brain would be on the outskirts of town. The deeper areas of the forest were the safest.

There are quite a few Infects infects in this forest, easily over fifty. Something is about to bring a select few of them together…

Malone rubbed two fingers over the inside of her elbow, wincing. She’d learned in the past few weeks that for as long as she reaped the benefits of her sickness, she’d surely face the downsides. Such as the aching arm she’d been dealing with for the past week, just because she carried a particularly heavy shopping bag like it was no big deal. It was starting to ease up now, but she needed to be careful. She didn’t want to spend another week lounging around, thinking about Sam.

She shifted how she was sitting, back against a huge tree with her legs stretched out in front of her. She was a two hour walk away from the city, but she wasn’t going to need food for another little while. Plus, that walk could easily be turned into a half-hour run, if she was in good enough shape. She pulled the backpack that she’d bought closer to her so that she knew it was nearby and dug into her pocket for a cigarette.

There was no need to leave where she was, and her arm was still hurting. If she really needed to move, she could do it under the cover of night. She pulled out a cigarette from one of the two packets she had, and lit it with her new lighter. She took a long drag and blew it all out through her mouth, savouring the rough taste. She coughed into her elbow, hitting against her chest with the heel of her hand. She was using a cheaper brand of cigarettes to what she would usually use, but she could still get a good hit off of them.

She took another drag. ‘I wonder if I can still do that party trick,’ she wondered. Smiling to herself, she hit against her neck as she breathed out, creating little rings into the air. She smirked with full, yellowing teeth. “Nice.” She mumbled, honestly proud of herself. She reached out and swatted a hand through one of the smoke rings, watching it disappear into the air. She spent the next few minutes replicating the trick, chuckling quietly to herself. In that moment, she could forget that she was sick, and that if anyone knew she was, she may well just end up dead.

Alex walked through the woods looking for a nice quite place to joke up and play a game for a few hours. He sat on the other side of a tree.

( sorry for short post have a dead line to meet and wanted to establish my character was there. Don't worry he's close by) alright update!)

He'd been sitting there staring into the screen playing online and kicking some tail at the game. Unfortunately he lost the connection he'd been pirating. That sucked he'd been working so hard to level. The game was hard enough as is and rarely did he ever get a match this easy. He pulled out the signal reciver from the wifi port and crushed it. Making sure to chuck it in a lake if the DA tried to track it. Hearing sounds he grabbed at the sharp long needle in his pocket. He had a knife but if it really was the Boogie man he was going to make sure he got a surprise since most infected didn't have weapons. Of course he'd need to find a cure or vaccine sooner or later. Preferably later.

Holly looked back in the general direction of the city as she trodded on in the forest beside Lionsdale. She sighed as the wind blew, feeling very tired and wary from the events of the day. Walking around and searching for a small store to gather food from was, in itself, a bit tiring, but then it got worse when she had to fight off some stray dogs. The mangy mutts made a lot of noise, and the whole scene was intense and nerve-wracking. The damn dogs nearly cost them their lives; the dogs almost had the drop on her when they began circling Holly and targeting her legs and throat, but when she fended them off, she then had to get her sister to hide from the DAs who were attracted to the noise.

Even after they left, Janine was too nervous to step out of her hiding place, but her sister managed to get her out and continue in the forest. Holly looked ahead as she rubbed her slightly aching neck, her eyes darting around as she kept track of her constantly moving sister.

"Tia honestly can you slow down? This is ridiculous how you still have more energy than me.... Dumb sickness, making me more tired than normal.... It's not fair," the teenager stated with a huff.

The younger sister slowed down and looked back to Holly as she rubbed her neck, sighing and shaking her head. "No way! I'm not tired yet. And besides, the DAs aren't this far out of the city, so there isn't much to be worried about. Stop worrying about me. It's not like I can't defend myself," Tia said with a exasperated voice. Holly groaned and rubbed her forehead, wondering if her younger loudmouth of a sister was going to listen for once.

Going outside was something Jo used to enjoy but ever since the whole deal with the Ulladie virus, it was nothing but tedious and she hated it. At this point she couldn't tell if it was just because of the occassional bouts of fatigue and fever that came with the illness, or if it was just...her. Often, just getting out of bed every afternoon felt like a chore.

Not as much of a chore as trudging through the forest though, nudging away stray foliage and stumbling over uneven ground. Everything felt heavy lately. Not physically, of course. All she had with her was her trusty messenger bag slung across slouching shoulders and a plastic bag of whatever she could get from the little gas station not far from where she was currently copping herself up in.

She had run there the moment she caught word of the DAs approaching the area before heading into the forest. She had packed instant noodles and drinking water. But no hot water, or anything to boil it with. Typical.

Jo finally finds a somewhat secure looking spot between a tree and some shrubbery. She sat down , cross-legged, and checked her perpetually disconnected cellphone. She only ever used it to tell the time. And now it was telling her it had been almost an hour since she left the city. It probably wasn't too far into the forest but then again, she didn't want to go in too deep.

Just a little while. She just needed a short rest.

[Under normal circumstances, Star wouldn't be this deep in the forest. She'd rather be in her apartment, or at the lab, or... well, there weren't too many places she could comfortably go anymore. Between everyone's unusual alertness and her cursed blessing of perceiving their alertness with such clarity, it seemed like an acceptable deference to her needs. The reports of Disease Agents were a factor, but she would've thought twice, and considered just thinking 'screw it,' and going for it, but some indescribable hunch convinced her otherwise.

She'd probably just stay the night and head back home from there. She has a flashlight in her hand, a bedroll tied to her back helping to secure her lunch bag in place, her cell phone and a minimalist first-aid kit in the pockets of her black jeans. She wore a long-sleeved green shirt today, and a blue hoodie, expecting a somewhat chilly night. Aside from these, she wore a pair of blue nitrile gloves and a surgical mask, just like always.

She heads through the forest, sticking to what seem to be the main trails, as far as she can tell, at least for now.]
