Personality Summary:

Hunter is a very loyal person, especially to Sofia. He is stern when he has to be, but he is relaxed and humorous when there's down time. He will do anything to protect the princess and the innocent.

The Plot:

Hunter is the Head of the Knights and Princess Sofia's personal Royal Protector. He is pretty much with her everywhere she goes; even when she thinks she's sneaking out of the castle to visit the village, he follows stealthily behind her. The two of them grew up together and are each other's closest friend - the Princess trusts Hunter with her life. As a gift to her villagers, she decides to throw a ball open to all the people in the Kingdom of Haven. However, a group of assassins who were hired by the rival Kingdom of Zellow infiltrate the castle during the ball and eliminate the King and Queen, forcing the Princess into the role of Queen. The assassins were supposed to take out the Princess as well, but Hunter being the greatest Knight in the kingdom rescues her and the two of them escape into hiding. The group of assassins are hunting Sofia, and the rival kingdom has taken over the new Queen's kingdom and making her people miserable. The Princess has to save the kingdom and rescue her people while running from the assassins, with the help of Hunter and others who are loyal to her along the way. But when the two longtime friends are thrown into survival mode together, will it make their friendship stronger or tear them apart? And will they be able to make it to the castle to stop the King of Zellow from destroying their only home completely or will they die trying?

Princess Sofia looked at her reflection in the mirror. She had decided to wear her baby blue ballgown for the evening - the one with all the lace; it was by far her favorite dress. She stood still as her royal helper finished tying up her corset and placed her crown on the Princess's head. Sofia thanked Victoria, her royal assistant, and dismissed her. She gave herself one last lookover in the mirror before turning to head towards the ballroom.

Sofia had decided to throw her people a ball - without them, she would have no kingdom, so she thought it only right to celebrate them. The Kingdom of Haven had been peaceful since her father reined over it the last 10 years. He had taken the thrown when his father - Sofia's grandfather - had passed away. Her grandfather tried to rule Haven peacefully, but their neighboring kingdom - the Kingdom of Zellow - had declared a war on Haven, their king wanting to rule over both lands. Her grandfather had died fighting the war with Zellow, and he had put all of his soul into stopping it; however, it wasn't until his son - and Sofia's father - Prince Elliot took the thrown and persuaded the king of Zellow to sign a peace treaty. The princess had never really understood how her father managed to declare peace in the middle of a war, or what he did to turn the mind of the other king, but she hadn't questioned it much because whatever he did seemed to work. The two kingdom's had kept the treaty for 10 years now, and she couldn't imagine a better way to celebrate the anniversary of peace than to throw a magnificent ball for her people. She had even invited the people from the Kingdom of Zellow to attend, but King Elliot had warned her not to get her hopes up that they would attend. There may have been peace among the two kingdoms, but there was still hostility from the past in those who survived it.

The Princess walked out of her chambers into the hallway where she found her Royal Protector and greatest friend waiting for her, "Good evening Sir Hunter. Are you ready for the ball? I expect a big attendance tonight." She gave him her warm smile that she always had as they walked side by side down the hallway towards the room filled with her waiting guests. "I do hope you will try to have some fun, Hunter. You are my Royal Protector, but that does not mean you cannot smile sometimes." They stopped outside the two big wooden doors that lead to the top of the stairs into the ballroom. She faced Hunter, "I do like it when you smile."

Hunter reluctantly cleaned up for the upcoming ball. He wouldn't dare dress up fully, as he would be on duty and would need to prepared for conflict. Besides, the fancy tunics were very uncomfortable. However, he knew Princess Sofia would be displeased if he didn't put in any effort, so he styled his hair and polished his leather armor and sword for the occasion.

Being the 10 year anniversary of peace between Haven and Zellow, Hunter was on high alert for any potential threats. The whole day he had his men keeping an eye on any visitors for suspicious actions. A young knight by the name of Mason was very excited for the ball tonight. He ran up to Hunter with a twinkle in his eye.
"Commander Briggs! Tonight is going to be great! Dancing, booze, and beautiful women everywhere." Hunter merely held his head. What was he going to do with this one? "May I remind you, Mason, that you will be on duty with me and Squad A tonight. Our mission is to ensure the safety of the guests, with the Princess being the highest priority. If I find you screwing off, I'll knock you on our ass in front of those women." Mason merely responded with a forced smile and salute before heading off to prepare.

As the starting time for the ball approached, he made his way to the Royal Chambers and awaited Princess Sofia in the hallway. When she walked out, Hunter couldn't hold back a slight grin. "Good evening your highness. As always you look lovely." He began to escort her before answering her question. "I'm always ready, though I do feel a little anxious. You've invited a lot of people to this which means I have a lot of people to keep my eyes on. But I must say, your enthusiasm just might be contagious." When she mentioned having fun, he managed a chuckle. "Having fun isn't part of the job, but I will do my best to appear...friendly to the guests." When they approached the wooden doors, he turned to Sofia and have a warm, genuine smile. "Likewise, my Princess." From there, he opened the doors and escorted the Princess into the ballroom.

Sofia weaved her arm through Hunter's as he had always been her official escort to these events. She put on a big, welcoming smile as the doors opened and the two walked through them. They stopped at the top of the staircase as the announcer presented them. The crowd was fairly larger than usual, but she had expected that. When they quieted down, she spoke, "Welcome to the 10th anniversary of Peace. It is so wonderful to see all of these faces - both from Haven and Zellow." The crowd was silent now, their eyes fixed on their Princess, "For 10 years, our kingdoms have found harmony among each other, and there has been peace without threat of war. I was only a little girl when the last war was fought, but I remember losing my grandfather to it. I remember watching others lose those close to them as our kingdoms battled with reasons non other than to have power. But now we have learned that real power comes from not war, but from peace. We have combined our resources and have expanded our territories because of peace, and Peace brings us together on this very night as nothing else than citizens trying to live. We are united as long as we keep peace. That is why I have invited all of you here tonight - so that we may celebrate the peace that we all brought to our kingdoms and the peace we will still be celebrating many years from now." There were soft cheers from the onlookers, and the King and Queen nodded in agreement with their daughter's words, "So please - dance, eat, be merry, and remember the peace that brings us together." The cheers from the crowd grew louder and the orchestra started it's beautiful music.

Sofia and Hunter descended down the stairs together as her people began to mingle, "I am glad to see that our neighboring kingdom decided to join us. I do not see their king, I wonder if he is here." The two reached the bottom of the staircase and began to flutter between guests. The Princess did her social rounds for a good hour, her Royal Guard right behind her, before her and Hunter made their way over to the table filled with various eats. Sofia poured herself some of the fresh water they had provided and turned to Hunter, "Hunter, I have a request."

It's always brought Hunter great joy escorting Sofia to these events. Truth be told, her company was the only thing he liked about these things. When Sofia gave her speech, he stepped back to give her the spotlight, but remained close. She delivered a beautiful speech. It hit home with Hunter, as he lost his father and older brother to the last war. When the speech ended, he clapped joyfully before gently taking her by the arm again. As they walked, he exchanged a smile with the King and Queen. They've always treated him like family.

Now for the bad part, mingling. "I suppose it's a good sign that the neighbourng kingdom has attended, but now I will have no peace of mind for hours to come. I find it rather strange that the King did not attend, I assume he'd want to celebrate a decade of peace." The absence of their King deeply disturbed Hunter. He looked around the room, taking note of his hand-picked squad surveying the room. Even young Mason was on full alert. When they made it to the bottom of the stairs, Hunter followed Sofia as she greeted the guest. He would force fake smiles when the guests insisted on greeting him as well. When they made it to the refreshments table, Hunter responded to his dear friend. "Anything my Princess. What do you need of me?"

Sofia gave an almost mischievous smile, "I do love it when you say that my dear Knight." She finished her water and set the glass aside. She grabbed Hunter's hands and pulled him gently along behind her onto the dance floor. "I know you are not a fan of dancing, but will you give me just one dance?" She gave him her big, puppy dog eyes and they seemed to twinkle like stars under the lighting. She placed one hand on his shoulder and held the other hand out for him to take as they assumed the proper dancing position, "Please Hunter, will you dance with me?" She knew he would, as he always gave her one dance at these events if only to appease her and keep her from pestering him all night about it. He said he hated to dance, but Sofia was convinced that he secretly loved it and only opposed to be difficult.

The orchestra's song slowed down, causing the guests around them to slow their dancing as well. From what it seemed, all was going well and there had been no spotting of trouble. Even the King and Queen joined their people on the dance floor, enjoying the lovely night themselves. Still, the night was young and anything could happen. Little did the ball goers know, that there really was trouble brewing - right under their noses. The King of Zellow had not attended the evening's event because he had a different idea than celebrating peace. He had been biding his time since the war had ended, pretending that he was for the peace treaty. He wanted to rule over both kingdoms, and that's what he planned on doing. He had sent in some of his personal guards from the Royal Army into the ball, with orders to take control of it. They had started to fan out discreetly at the entrances, each blending in almost too well with the mingling guests. They had even been able to sneak in a few small weapons that they each concealed on their persons. It wasn't time to strike yet, but it was close, and the King of Zellow would appear when it was time. He wanted to be the one responsible for the end of King Elliot and his precious peace, even if he had to take the lives of most everyone here = including the king and queen and their darling daughter.

Hunter grinned slightly when Sofia pulled him to the dance floor. With the way she looked at him, he simply smiled. He had always found her irresistible. Soon they assumed proper dancing position. "Anything for you, Sofia." Hunter never really enjoyed dancing, but his mother made him learn at a young age. However, he always loved dancing with Sofia. It always relieved his stress and warned his heart, and tonight was no different. As they danced, he blocked out everyone else. In his own little world, it was just the two of them.

Many of the guests were admiring the dance, including Hunter's men. The only one still surveying was young Mason, who turned his attention to the guests gathering at the entrances. Hunter taught him well, and he sensed something strange about them.
