The Tzeetch are a race of bipedal insectoids originating on the mountainous planet of Krag. In their empire's infancy the Tzeetch had always been a curious race, always trying to discover and learn new things and build new inventions to showcase to their peers. Due to this curiosity the race had spent relatively no time to discovering FTL technology, and eventually attempted to colonization with disastrous results. Due to the Krag's mountainous terrain and the Tzeetch's predator/prey relationship with a large avian creature known as a Jrak, the Tzeetch had evolved to become rather thin, with their chitin being rather thin and flexible allowing them to easily scale up sheer walls and hide in tight cracks within the mountain walls. However this meant the Tzeetch are unable to live on any planets with gravity stronger then their own, and being rather specialized the Tzeetch could only live on heavily mountainous terrain. This did not deter the race from exploring the depths of space however the Tzeetch's greatest minds came up with a plan to build large continent sized vessels known as Hive Ships. Ships capable of holding up tens of billions of Tzeetch at a time while drifting through the stars via sub-light or FTL speeds. With the use of newly built Construction Goliaths, giant thinking construction robots 70-80 ft tall, it took the race several centuries to build their first Hive Ship, built on the Krag's moon. Thus millions of Tzeetch journeyed onto the Hive Ship to appease their curiosity about the stars and due to the Hive Ship's success, the Tzeetch leaders commissioned the construction of multiple Hive Ships. This was the beginning of a period known as the Age of Discovery.

The Age of Discovery is a rather important era for the Tzeetch as this during this era dozens of Tzeetch Hive Ships had been travelling around the galaxy discovering new worlds, exporting new flora and fauna to fill the many research facilities that dotted Krag's surface. However dispite their efforts, they've yet to find any sign of sentient life, one of the many goals of the Tzeetch Empire. This was until they found a planet known now as Earth. The Tzeetch Hive Ship, Iole that discovered Earth around -273 and was enthralled at what they saw. Hairless mammalians in their infancy, beginning to create empires on the planet, with lifespans that was much longer then their own, as the Tzeetch only live up to around 50 years of age. Curious about this new sentient life Iole spent the next few millennia peacefully observing and sometimes abducting humans in order to experiment on them, mainly for curiosity sake. It wasn't until the humans began expanding outside their solar system Iole decided to take whatever data they had found and return it to Krag. When they reached their home world, they discovered a shocking sight. The Construction Goliath, the Tzeetch had been using to build their Hive Ships rebelled, and began laying waste to the Tzeetch and their cities. This era was known as the Era of Betrayal.

During the Era of Betrayal, many Tzeetch Hive Ships returned to their planet in order help defend Krag, but due to their frail frames the Tzeetch were unable to match the Construction Goliath's sheer bulk and strength. Their saving grace however came in the form of humanity as the humans the Hive Ship Iole carried became the basis for the greatest weapons. With Krag under fire, the Tzeetch began a new program known as the Induced Evolution Program. The Tzeetch took their subjects and placed them through everything from VR simulations to written tests, then taking the DNA of the best subjects and flash cloning new subjects from the combined DNA of the subjects then repeat. They would continue this until they were content with that they had created. A new species, created from the DNA of humanity known as Praetorian. The Praetorian were in essence humans save for several key features, primarily their enhanced speed, strength and processing capabilities. Sadly the Praetorian, while able to fight off the Construct Goliaths, were unable to stop the machines from detonating a bomb that caused Krag's crust to destabilize, causing the planet to implode. The Hive Ships, while saddened by the loss of their Homeworld and the loss of billions of Tzeetch lives, scattered throughout the Galaxy with their Praetorian armies. Little over a 100,000 years later, it had impossible for the Tzeetch to unify as a united force as each Hive Ships grew their own cultures, ideals and interests, and as such the Tzeetch have yet to establish a new Home World, so they do as they always do and continued to explore the unknown mysteries of the Galaxy, ever watching and ever learning.
