Blood Born Angel

Emissary of Oblivion
[There might be typos and mistakes in here, but I'll get to them another time. I just wanted to share what I had finished. ^~^]

Night never felt dark in the cities. Even if the moon hid its face, and the sky became overcast with dark clouds that blotted out the heavens. The city itself gave us light - a glowing beacon that cast its radiant glow against the stars and drove out the darkness. It was one of those nights she could see it from a distance. Standing at the edge of its luminance could make one stare in awe at the wonders and power mankind had achieved.

R’saava was outside it’s warming aura however. She stood amongst the rubble of some long forgotten warehouse. No light save the distant glow of the city in the backdrop, and the occasional flicker of broken street lamps. In her hand a crumpled note - her fist clasped so tight around it her nails dug into her palms.

Her heart ached.

The events that led her here had been long, and arduous. Years of her life had gone by in a flash, yet had taken their toll bit by bit on the young woman. Had it all been for nothing? Did every waking hour she spent studying, tinkering, and clawing her way up from the gutters all wash away tonight? R’saava didn’t know, but the questions pounded on the doors of her mind like some beast about to break loose.

Her feet began to move on their own - mechanically taking her to her final destination. It was one of the only buildings still intact in this district. A large, ominous warehouse they once stored construction equipment in. She didn’t really recognise the place, but she figured it was from back when the Technologists first began building the magnificent city on the horizon. Some of the tools and equipment here were pretty old. Corroded metal and crumbling concrete all that remained of the pioneers memory. She thought it was fitting - that her hard work might end amongst theirs.

Forgotten.

R’saava didn’t hear them approach, but she felt their presence to either side her. A quick glance confirmed their existence. Two men in nice black suits - automatic weapons in their hands - obviously illegally modified. She felt the cold touch of a metal barrel press through the fabric of her coat, ushering her forward. Her feet obeyed. R’saava solemnly marched up to the entrance and let herself in.

Inside the warehouse was pitch black. She couldn’t see her hands even if she waved them an inch from her nose. She could feel the large empty space in front of her, it only accentuated by the lock clicking shut behind her. The outside world being cut off from the inky black interior of the building. With a cacophonous groan and clank someone hidden in the shadows flipped the lights back on. Blinding fluorescent lights flickered to life and caused R’saava to wince and turn away. A condescending voice tittered a sinister laugh before addressing the woman.

“Ahh… R’saava. Long time no see~!”

The short woman who spoke was Zera Akatsuya - leader of a prominent criminal organization that had managed to settle into the city pretty well. R’saava didn’t greet the woman in return. She simply glowered at the young lady, but it must not have been very convincing because it only brought out more laughter from her vile lips.

“Ohhh~ You’re face is adorable. So fierce! I can see why father liked you.”

Zera’s father had once employed R’saava. He gave her a home, money, and support for her mother. She might not have been fond of her criminal past anymore, but she had good memories of the man. He was stern, but compassionate. Nothing like the woman before her.

“Where is Mr. Akatsuya?” R’saava asked while her eyes dug into Zeras like daggers. The woman waved her hand dismissively and approached R’saava with a slow, cat-like gait.

“Father died a few months ago… We would have invited you to the funeral, but you seemed busy with Clyde Industries at the time. My deepest apologies.”

The sarcasm dripping from her lips made R’saava want to retch, and she forced herself to look away else she would. This woman had taken over in his stead? It was disgusting.

Zera wasn’t finished however, “Speaking of Clyde Industries… how’s it going over there? Heard you were the big kahuna up there! Head of research and development?”

She took a seat on a pile of cinderblocks a few feet from R’saava. Her legs crossed in a casual, but provocative position. It was obvious where this was going. She baited R’saava here with the one thing she couldn’t ignore, then she’d further try and blackmail her with the dirt from her past time with the Akatsuya’s. It was absolutely wretched.

“I was thinking… Maybe you could lend us some support. In memory of my father.”

It came out a statement rather than a question. A demand from the one with all the bargaining chips. It made bile rise in her throat, and her palms bleed from how hard she clenched her fists.

“Nothing to say? You’re so quiet dear! That’s not like you…”

The smile on Zera’s face made R’saava begin to tremble. Her heart pounded against her ribcage. She was lightheaded - on the verge of hyperventilating.

“You’re shaking R’saava! I’m sorry if this is a lot to take in… you have a lot on your plate. What with your mother being bedridden and all. You do a lot to take care of her.”

R’saava’s crimson hues rose once again to meet Zera’s. Burning with hot tears and hatred. This woman had the gall to talk about her mother, when she was the one who abducted her! It was all some game to this pathetic woman - to tease and torment those who showed any weakness. It was an unfortunate event that she had to choose R’saava this time.

“You’re going to let my mother go.” R’saava’s voice trembled. Her teeth were clenched so hard her jaw had begun to cramp.

“Let her go? I don’t know what you’re talking about… Your mother isn’t being held against her will if that’s what you’re implying. She’s very comfortable, and I don’t think she could move in the first place…”

R’saava’s vision was turning red at this point. It was too late to hold back. “You’ve made a terrible mistake Zera…”

Slowly, something metallic slid out from under R’saava’s coat and glittered in the fluorescent light. For a moment it distracted everyone from the trembling woman. The snake-like object slithering out across the floor, like the the metal skeleton of some serpent. While they looked away, R’saava lifted her hands and watched as mechanical gauntlets began to cover them. Her fingers became razor sharp metal claws, and her arms armored like a knight.

Zera was the first to snap out of the trance. She looked at R’saava with a look of confusion, but before she could shout a warning R’saava was already screaming.

You’re all going to die!

The tail that extruded from under her coat shot out and gripped the nearest man by the ankle. It’s joints were normally smooth, but now it was frilled out like a whip made of razor sharp hooks. They dug into the man’s flesh, and with inhuman strength drug him down and flung him into another pair of Zera’s lackeys.

“S-stop her! Shoot her!” Was all Ms. Akatsuya could stammer out as she fell backwards over cinder blocks she perched upon. R’saava took a step toward the woman as the suit wrapped around her waist and up her stomach slowly. Her shoulders became pauldrons that extended down over her breasts, and her thighs and shins were layered in a gleaming metallic suit now. She looked like a knight straight out of a fairy tale; however, the seething hatred plastered on her face, bloody mechanical tail, and razor sharp gauntlets were more akin to a mechanized monster.

She reached out to claim Zera as her next victim, but the others had recovered from their initial confusion and responded to their boss’s command by opening fire. The first few bullets whizzed past her, causing R’saava to drop into a crouch and let out a feral growl. Her fiery hues turned to the closest man, and her muscles catapulted her forward at a blinding speed. R’saava struck the man with an outstretched claw and impacted with so much force her arm tore through his gut and out his back. Her legs burned, and there was an odd feeling in her shoulder as the suit exerted her way beyond what she was capable of. Her arm was probably dislocated, and the muscles in her legs had been torn from her ferocious sprint. R’saava let out heavy breaths as she felt hot liquid begin to soak her arm. She had never actually killed someone before. There had been fights in her past, but never had she felt someone’s life ebb away in her hands. It was horrifying, but it also brought a satisfaction to the rage that sent her adrenaline pumping.

More gunshots were fired. She felt a few ping off her back - the force causing her to wince in pain, but they couldn’t break through the alloy her suit was made from. R’saava turned to her assailants and used the man skewered on her arm as a meatshield. Her face was twisted in a snarl as she pushed toward the men firing upon her. Hot blood splattered her face, and whenever a bullet impacted her body she would growl from the pain. They backed away as she approached, but she could close the distance in mere seconds because of her amplified strength.

“Fucking die you monster!” One called out as she came within arms reach. His gun peppered the body she shielded herself with - bullets ripping through and impacting all over her chest and stomach. At this range they dented and split the metal, causing her to cry out in agony before she gripped his barrel and crushing the gun like it was made of aluminum. Her pain only spurred on her fury, and as she ripped the gun away her tail speared the man through his throat.

The next ran victim ran at her in desperation, spraying bullets all over her general vicinity. She felt one graze her neck which was still partially exposed, and she held the wound as her tail nearly cleaved his assault rifle in two. The now unarmed man attempted to swing at her with his fists, but she easily gripped him by his face and with a terrifying war cry slammed his skull against the concrete wall. Bone splintered and gore splattered all over the wall and her arm - her fingers also cracking as the force shattered her fist.

Her own blood mixed with her victims, the silver suit now painted a red so dark it almost looked black. Tears streaked down through the grime on her cheeks - R’saava’s furious gaze turning back to where Zera stood. Ms. Akatsuya had a handgun pointed at the feral monster that had been tearing apart her men. Her hands were far to shaky to actually take the shot though. Zera’s terrified face was locked to R’saava’s snarling features, searching in a vain attempt to find a scrap of humanity left in the woman’s crimson hues.

“G-give up R’saava… T-there’s n-nothing to gain f-from th-this…”

The metallic monster took deep, ragged breaths. Her body turned the rest of the way toward Zera, and slowly she stepped closer.

“I-I’m serious! I’ll s-shoot! Th-then who’s g-gonna prot-tect your m-mother!?”

R’saava’s tail flicked across the ground menacingly. Sparks dancing over the concrete floor as metal ground on stone.

“S-stay away!”

Zera’s voice came out a screech at this point, R’saava only coming closer with every step. She was only a few feet away at this point - their showdown about to come to a sudden conclusion. R’saava let out a shuddering breath before finally speaking the first words she had since the fight began.

“Where… is my… mother..?”

They stood in silence for a few agonizing moments. Both the women in tears - one from rage - the other from fear.

“She’s… Sh-she’s in…” Zera choked back her fear as she stuttered out an answer, “She’s i-in the back o-of the warehouse… Right here. S-safe. I p-promise.”

R’saava’s eyes burned through Zera’s skull to ascertain whether she spoke the truth. With a lurch she began to limp toward the back of the building. Zera kept the gun trained on her has she passed, but R’saava had seemed to have forgotten her existence already. Her tail flicked and swayed behind her to keep her balance as the pain from the suits enhancement began to catch up. Adrenaline no longer able to numb the broken bones and torn muscles.

Once R’saava’s back was turned Zera’s anxiety began to ebb slightly. Her hands steadied, and she took aim for the back of R’saava’s skull. A triumphant smile slowly spread across her face, and her finger pulled back on the trigger.

Shhling!

The gun clattered to the floor, and R’saava kept walking as her tail flicked off the blood it just gathered. There was a second before something else thudded to the floor at Zera’s feet, soon followed by her crumpling body. R’saava was done with them. There might have been more men in the building, or around the vicinity, but she doubted they’d attempt anything at this point. They had most likely fled.

However, victory wouldn’t be sweet until she had her prize.

R’saava took hold of the door handle and gave it a weak push. Thankfully it opened fairly easy, and as it fell agape the soft glow of a bedside lamp could be seen. There was a hospital bed installed to the room. A small lifesupport computer pulsed with its patients vitals, and an IV bag hung beside the bed. Sleeping peacefully under the blankets was an older woman with fiery red hair streaked with gray. R’saava’s eyes burned with tears as she felt relief wash over her. With a small smile she went to her mother’s side, and gently placed a hand over hers as the suit began retracting back to it’s original design.

“Hey mom,” She whispered through her light sobbing. “Let’s take you back to the hospital.”

R’saava wheeled her mother out of the warehouse. Past the death and gore, beyond the forgotten machinery and buildings, and back toward the gleaming city on the horizon. The sun had begun to rise. It’s orange glow mixed with the cities luminescence. It made R’saava smile as her eyes fixated on their destination. The cities brilliance outshining even the dawn.
