Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived Westeria City: Colcord Point

It had been week and week ago that Assara had left the are of Colcord Point as it fell to disarray and chaos. As she meandered the streets now, however, it appeared that life had found a way to live with the chaos that remained. Her uniform, which had been replaced following the loss of her old one inn this very place, was as crisp as ever, high collar stiff and long coattails swaying back and forth as she walked. Her mind was parsing the information she saw around her, from the newer construction to the oozelings, letting ti wash over her before she came to any conclusions.

With her mind in such a blanked mode, it wasn't until she was facing the rift itself, and perhaps only a dozen meters from it or so, that she realized that she'd traced back her steps to see the space-time anomaly. Though she hadn't been able to find out the exact cause or reason behind its formation, she had been able to gather some information about various kinds of anomalies similar to it while still searching for the mercenary, Tenna. As it turned out, this kind of rift was associated, from her understanding of the texts she'd read in Westeria City's library, indicative of possible fluctuations in the what the first book had described as the 'Etheric Web'. She didn't quite understand at first, but eventually her research led her to one conclusion about the rift and how it reacted. To her knowledge, and from her research, it seemed purely magical in nature, despite being in line with several different anomalies of similar size. What she hadn't been able to puzzle out was how it had come to be here in the first place.

"Still here after all this time, hm? Odd, you are, but perhaps I am the odd one here. After all, you are native to this place, and I am but a passing wisp of matter and thought." She smiled while talking to herself, then watched the various goings on about her and the area, her interest in the oozelings remaining. She never had gotten the sample she'd desired, after all.

Head turning, icy eyes narrowed as the unescapable breath of a maelstrom of powers was unleashed elsewhere in the city. Energies foreign to this world, a glimpse into another yawning wide in the sky. In it's wake, a landmass remained, a sobering sight as it hung motionless...

Before it began to plunge, and the man cursed under his breath as he sprinted for the roof's edge. Knowledge of the building he stood on was enough to understand it wouldn't hold to the tremors about to tear into the city, and he didn't pause before vaulting the raised edge. As he glanced towards the earth rising to meet his fall, he saw the last of the squatters clearing the doors, standing gawking at the sky in slack jawed confusion, before he tucked and took the impact in a roll. Once, twice, thrice he controlled his tumble before catching his momentum, bellowing to the family.

"Run and get down, damn you!" Snapping the paralysis, they bolted from the crumbling structure taking shelter in the intersection center even as Jegun rose to his feet, bearing his teeth in a tight grimace as he watched the plunging island gain speed. He wondered what new plague was about to rip into the torn and battered city now, even as the first of the skyscrapers began to splinter under unstoppable weight. The whisper of what was to come rippled under his feet, dropping into a crouch and splaying one hand wide across the pavement.

Three. Two. One.

The sound struck just ahead of the shock, a thunderous concussion like a mammoth explosion. Then the street leaped against him, the tumbling crashing and crunching of the building at his back warring against the sounds erupting around the city. A cold rage lent purpose to his strength, his knee struck not the earth even as it raged against him. A fresh scar to deal with, in a city torn apart into factions. A city occupying his time with its struggles.

As the initial tremors subsided under his palm, he slowly rose, running a hand through his white hair. A sigh escaped him, as he glanced over at the family hurrying away from the crumbled remains of the scorched tenement they'd be occupying. A wry smile passed over his face, fading fast as he squinted back at the billowing dust cloud.

"Damn newcomers."
