Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived Westeria City

"Thompson, Triss, move! Blow a hole in the north wall, light them up. Rem, teleport to cover them. Dirk, give covering fire. I'll draw their attention." Davos unclipped a frag grenade from his belt and chucked it through the same opening in the wall. It exploded, taking one of the mines with it. He racked up his Sixer, laying down a barrage of fire before raptor-jumping away from his position to a new one on the roof.

Dirk knelt up from his cover on the balcony, taking quick stock of the opposite and marking the opposing gunman in the window. He took several well-placed shots with his rifle at his enemy's torso, Gauss rounds shattering the glass.

Thompson and Triss crossed the street to the corner of the office building. Each unclipped a thermite grenade, tossed it to the left of the window before taking cover. A moment later, another huge explosion opened a crater to the northern flank, spewing debris, smoke and fire into the room along with concussive force. The entire building groaned from the strength of the blast.

Thompson and Triss rounded the corner, sprinting towards the fresh opening. Rem materialized by their side, eyes glowing, mana charging as he provided them with shielding. Racking up their rifles, they put down a barrage of fire into the thick smoke aimed at hazy figures, perforating the room with Gauss rounds.

Everyone kept holed up tight even as the Terrans outside moved into position. The Medic checked his weapon, and then the hole opened up in the north, gauss round sailing towards him, impacting the deployable cover and the pillar he was taking cover behind. The Medic held out his Disruptor PDW and depressed the trigger, sending hundreds of bolts sailing towards the haze and gauss rounds towards the new hole in the wall, brilliant streams of green light cascading towards the trio of Terrans outside.

Gilman followed suit, covering the Medic as he retreated deeper into the building, opening fire while the Medic reloaded his PDW.

Marco was caught by suprise, a gauss round impacted the deployable cover causing a deafening twang as the energy of the round was absorbed. Reorienting himself and moving to a crouching position behind the pillar, he held position behind the deployable cover.

Specialist Kowalski whirled around, moving quickly to provide covering fire as well, as the sounds of gauss rounds impacting energy fields sent audible twangs throughout the interior of the building. While Anatole took advantage of Gilmer and Gage's covering fire.

"Antimana out!" He shouted, heaving an Anti-Magic grenade in the direction of the newly created hole, awaiting the impending surge of anti-mana that would inevitably follow.

The marines didn't stay put as the Aschen returned fire - they swiftly moved to cover. Rem's shielding would let them soak up a few disruptor bolts, but not even the augmented power of an oracle could stop a prolonged volley.

"Fuck," Thompson groaned, a green blast shattering against Rem's arcane shielding and his own personal energy shields. The bolt still sent a chunk of his ceramite flying where it landed in the street in a molten heap. An unfortunate shot in the very same area scorched through his armor to his ribcage. Triss took a shot to the leg and a glancing blast to her side, but wasn't seriously injured; both leaped aside before the rest of the volley could hit them. In the smoke, it would similarly be difficult for the Aschen to find where they'd taken cover.

Rem hardly moved. At least three disruptor blasts pelted his chest dead-on. The mage shook them off like nothing, his wards and class A energy shields more than capable of tanking the incinerating damage. He muttered spells, preparing a devastating combat offensive... when an anti-mana grenade lobbed through the crater in the wall. How the Aschen had known there was a mage among them was uncertain - he'd yet to demonstrate anything clearly arcane, aside from shields, which would be difficult to see in the smoke. Either way, he was in trouble. He attempted to leap back but was still caught in the blast, Witcher Skin sparking with electricity as it struggled to compensate for the antimana incursion. He flew ten feet back onto the sidewalk, groaning.

Fortunately, neither Triss nor Thompson were mages. The force of the blast knocked them back and disentregated their mana shields, but did little to harm them bodily.

"Rem's down!" Triss roared, "I'm getting to cover to support him!"

Thompson groaned, attempting to pick himself up through his injuries.

With the Aschen focused on the assault from the north, Davos jetted down from the roof to the window, plasma grenade in hand. He aimed between the barriers before chucking the explosive through the glass to explode in the midst of them.

Fortunately for the Aschen, their doctrine, and the fact that when dealing with Terrans, it was standard procedure to deploy anti-magic weaponry, they were able to catch the Oracle off guard, by quickly utilizing the Anti-magic grenade, while suppressing the Terrans through the holes in the wall, Anatole caught the Plasma grenade sailing through the crater, it was then he screamed.

"Grenade! Take cover!" He shouted, fear creeping his voice as he moved to hit the floor, but not likely making it completely out of the radius of the Grenade, when the grenade detonated, he could feel hot plasma on his back, the excellent heat dissipation properties of his Kanvium armor saved him from the most severe of burns, once on the floor he quickly tried to recover, the brief flash of the grenade disorienting to say the least. He could feel the searing pain on his back, though, likely sustaining heavy burns, but nothing his Nanites couldn't save him from.

Upon hearing the screamed words, Gilman and Gage moved quickly onto the other side of the deployable cover, and hitting the ground, the Deployable cover itself absorbed nearly all of the explosion; but was now shimmering an angry red, indicating it was nearly depleted.

"Gods damnit, we're all going to die here!" Gage called out, while Gilman caught the grenade's general origin, and fired his Disruptor PDW Wildly in the direction of where the Grenade came from in a sweeping motion back and fourth, until his PDW's fusion cell ejected automatically, and the weapon began to vent super-heated gases.

"We need to get out of here!" Kowalski shouted into his comms, hurling a frag grenade in the direction the Terrans tried to fire the first time, and Gilman so happened to agree, and once the Specialist tossed his grenade, Gilman moved, grabbing Gage and shouting. "Ordered fallback! Suppressing fire!"

Marco also took advantage of the situation, lobbing a fragmentation grenade with all of his strenght towards where Gilman was firing at, the small grenade sailing through the hail of Disruptor fire, detonating several feet away from where Davos jetted down from.

Davos ducked down after tossing the grenade, not willing to compromise his position any further. Green bolts spewed overhead, molten glass raining down on his armor. The explosion and ensuing shouts were satisfactory - the frag grenade that went through the window a moment later, not so much.

"Shit!" the guardian growled, jumping up and attempting to sprint away. He managed to activate his raptor pack when the blast went off, the explosion slamming into him from behind and sending him sprawling across the street, his raptor back destroyed.

Triss, already on her feet, was easily able to sprint away from the grenade's blast. She moved to cover behind a downed spacecraft, rifle primed. Thompson, still injured, couldn't move as quickly. He was caught on the fringes of the blast, yet-more concussive force knocking him backwards. He groaned and lay still on the street.

The already damaged building had now taken over six grenades and an exploded mine. The entire northface of the structure lurched as its supports weakened, the infrastructure threatening to collapse. Walls disintegrated, bricks came undone. It seemed as if the north end building would not remain intact for much longer.

With holes opening in the walls, Dirk opened fire from above, trying to land pot shots on the fleeing Aschen troops. Triss unloaded from behind cover as well.

Rounds searing towards Gage and Gilman, some of them pinging against the deployable cover signalled that their entire position was about to be overrun, one shot came dangerously close to the Medic, Gilman engaged his personal aegis, the barrier shimmering to life as he reached down with his free hand, trying to pick the medic up, as rounds impacted the barrier with an audible twang.

"Come on, Soldier! On your feet!" Gilman shouted, as a round careened through his leg, catching the Cuirasse armor and nearly knocking the Commander down.

Completely behind his Aegis as rounds impacted the barrier, he winced, pain shooting up his leg as the Medic moved to help him to his feet, firing in the direction of the Soldier on the adjacent balcony, his PDW barking it's terrible report, sending searing bolts downrange as they moved deeper into the building.

The Commander called out. "Anatole, Flanking maneuver! Cover our retreat!"

By this time the Aegis had begun to glow red, but Anatole was zeroing in on Dirk on the Balcony, zeroing the holographic sights, while panting he waited, his heart beating and his back searing with pain, lining up the crosshairs with Dirk's head, he fired, his Type 53 Barking and sending a bolt sailing for Dirk's face, while Gage and Gilman hobbled back, Gage covering fire.

"Hang in there, Commander, I'm going to get you patched up.." Gage said, seeing the bright red blood seeping through the Cuirasse Suit that his Commander was wearing.

Once the reached one of the back pillars, Gage helped Gilman to a seating position, and grabbed his first aid pack, while Kowalski tossed his last Deployable cover in front of Gilman.

"Get him patched up, and we're getting the frak out of here!" Kowalski shouted, while Gilman called to Marco. "Cover my rear! Now!"

Marco promptly followed suit, bringing his rifle up and crouching near the rear. "Get him patched up so we can move! Terrans will be all over us soon!"

As Anatole zeroed in on Dirk, the TNG marine took several well-placed shots for Gage's chest and head as the Aschen provided covering fire, attempting to put him down for good. Triss remained behind cover, largely pinned down. Anatole's round splashed against the right side of Dirk's face, burning through his shields and incinerating most of his helmet. The open skin of his face was burned immediately, the heat melting through bone into his skull.

"AUUGHHHH!" he fell to the ground, writhing as the superheated particles seeped into his brain and killed him. Triss, meanwhile, unclipped another frag grenade from her belt and flung it over her cover at the retreating marines. The explosion went off not far from the imperials, taking out another chunk of the building's support. With a devastating lurch, the north end of the building began to collapse on itself.

It seemed Dirk managed to have his round perfectly timed with Anatole's. The split second Anatole fired his weapon, Gage went down, crouched over Gilman's leg with his head and back exposed. The first shots missed, with one hitting against the deployable cover. But Gage kept true, filling Gilman's leg wound with precious biofoam, before a gauss slug caught him in the side of his helmet, and his world went black and he slumped over. It was an audible crack, as the gauss projectile impacted the inch thick Kanvium helmet worn over Trinnium Nanomesh.

"They got Gage!" Marco screamed, and a split second later a frag grenade went off, a deafening 'twang' echoed as the explosion and shrapnel impacted the deployable cover, which saved the four men behind it but turned a menacing red as the shield charge depleted. A split second later Kowalski grabbed a frag grenade from his bandoleer, and heaved it far through the rubble and out into the street, the grenade clattering before detonating in the middle of the narrow road.

Immediately following the grenade, Gilman shouted. "Frak it! Blow the building!" While Marco moved to check on Gage, unclasping his helmet, and pulling it off to check for blood; relieved there was none. "Gage is still alive! But he's out cold!" Marco shouted, checking the pulse.

"Take these G4 Charges, we're going to blow the building!" Kowalski shouted, tossing Marco, and Anatole G4 Charges. "Put it on those pillars, we're going to draw the Terrans in and blow the building!"

In a fluid motion, Kowalski peered to the side of the deployable cover, slamming a fresh fusion cell into his Disruptor PDW, he laid down suppressing fire while Marco and Anatole ran for the support pillars, placing and arming their G4 Charges; which were set for a timed detonation, five minutes.

They prepared to double back, while Gilman tried to slap Gage awake, glancing to the dented Kanvium helmet.

Triss provided return fire, but at her range and with both their cover, was unlikely to hit anything. Davos, who was shaking off the blast, rose to his feet.

"What's happening?"

"They dropped Dirk!" she growled, "Thompson is still lying on the street! Rem is out, but safe!"

The guardian growled, trained eyes picking up an object flying through the air. "Grenade! Incoming!" He grabbed Triss and pulled her behind cover. The explosion rocked them, but they were otherwise unharmed. Davos looked up from behind the barrier at his fallen comrade across the street. Thompson was a sitting duck on the side of the road - the debris from the falling building could crush him.

"Cover me!" he roared, leaping the barrier and crossing over the street to the side of his comrade.

With the G4 Charges placed, and the timers going, Marco and Anatole quickly moved back over to Gage, and Gilman, taking the brief respite to consolidate their maneuver and withdraw. But Kowalski caught a glimpse of something else, the Minerva ECW system, which was still active and resting behind a small pile of debris, against the support pillar, scuffed up but mostly intact. It seemed the debris managed to protect it from the blast of the plasma grenade, and Kowalski had to act fast to prevent it from falling into TNG hands.

With Marco and Anatole moving to assist Gilman, and Gage, Kowalski grabbed the Minerva, flipping it closed and yanking it up, before tossing his last G4 Charge next to the support pillar.

Moving, the Minerva System couldn't keep up in real time, while sufficient to obfuscate the scouters at this range, it was subject to glitches until it was returned to a stationary position. With Anatole grabbing, and carrying Gage over his shoulder, all five of the Aschen filtered south, falling back and out of the building.

"We'll move parallel, make them think we're still in here... Kowalski leave the Minerva.. they won't get it when we blow this building to hell." Gilman said, and the corporal nodded.

"We'll need to move quickly."

In one motion, Kowalski opened the Minerva and placed it behind the deployable cover, which recharged it's barrier back to full strength. The Minerva would obscure their retreat, with Anatole helping Gilman, and Marco helping Gage, they fell back, where they could loop south and blow the building.

Set on a timed or remote charge, they would blow the charges manually, or the timer would go automatically.

But the TNG had no interest in entering the building. Helping Thompson up, Davos carried him behind the barrier where he began administering first aid. Triss pulled Rem behind cover as well. Not soon after, the charges detonated, giving the Imperials a moment to escape if they pleased. The entire building collapsed.

All of them reached the street, and using Bounding Overwatch, one provided cover while the rest of the squad crossed the street, one, after another they moved behind the bar and then the crack of the detonating charges filled the air, the building listed, left, right, and began to collapse in on itself, a controlled demolition as the pillars were destroyed from under it.

The sheer shock of the explosions also jarred Gage awake, with his head throbbing, he was still being carried by the rifleman.

They had wounded, and a long way to go before they escaped the city, hoping to be in the clear, they moved along the rear of the bar, moving east.

Kowalski turned back briefly, the ruined office building was now a large crater no thanks to the high explosives, escape was at hand.
