What Should I Avoid While Creating a Character?

Sure, but the kryptonite isn't his 'real' weakness. I mean, it hurts him and gives a way for antagonists to fight him, but the single most devastating weapon against him wasn't a rock but a single sentence. Why don't you just put the whole world in a bottle? A lot of bad Superman writers miss this aspect of his character which results in boring mary sue tendencies (Batman can get it just as bad if not worse though). Namely that Superman could do that but, if he did, he would betray every bit of his being and ideals and that, if he wishes to remain both Clark and Superman he can't just 'put the world in a bottle'. It's why he lost in Red Son for example. Nothing the Americans and allies could throw against him worked but, when he reached Lex and got confronted with that sentence, he realized he had gone and destroyed everyone who had dared to stand against him for any reason, legitimate or no, and was about to eviscerate an entire nation for the 'crime' of being different.
