1x1 Winds of Insurrection

"I though it'd suit you," Dorothea mused, giving Kassandra the little book. "If you're not used to magic it may be a bit overwhelming...but it's very useful." She sighed, letting her hair down. "I had a wonderful time tonight, Kass. It's nice to just get out and enjoy yourself in the midst of everything."

@Jeremi

Kassandra flipped through the book briefly. It all looked quite complicated...but she'd give it a closer look later. "It's the company that makes it, and I had a wonderful time as well. Thank you for showing me around your home. I hope I can return the favor someday."

@Yun Lee

"I'd like nothing more." Dorothea came up to Kassandra and pulled her into an embrace that only lasted a few seconds before she pulled away. "You might want to get some sleep. I wonder what tomorrow will bring..."

@Jeremi

"Knowing what we're involved in, probably trouble," Kassandra quipped. "Perhaps it is time for me to get some rest. Though..." She sniffed the air. "Perhaps I should take a bath before I do. Does the palace have an area to clean yourself?"

@Yun Lee

"There's a bath on this floor, in the opposite direction of the guest rooms. Both private for one person, or a small community one. I'll have to thank Hapi for finding those restricted blueprints, they've been a lifesaver here."

@Jeremi

Kassandra nodded. "Thank you, I'll have to swing by there before bed." The Eagle-Bearer was starting to leave before she turned around and gave Dorothea a kiss on the cheek. "I had fun tonight. Have a good night, and I'll see you in the morning." With that she took her leave and tried to find the baths.

@Yun Lee

As Dorothea said the baths were right on the other side and hard to miss. Kassandra could easily go and take a private one if she preferred getting clean and going right to bed, or take a chance in the public bathing area and see if anyone else was up this late.

@Jeremi

Kassandra had gotten herself ready for a quick soak and going to bed, but she was curious to see if anyone was still awake and instead went into the public bath area.

The steam in the public bath made the the room hot and humid, but at just the right point where it was soothing rather than uncomfortable. Kassandra would find she was not alone, after all: her fellow bounty hunter, Balrog, was currently leaned back in the large community bath, eyes closed and a rare look of pure bliss on his face.

@Jeremi

Seeing that Balrog seemed to be lost in thought Kassandra didn't want to bother him and instead slipped quietly into the water and leaned back as well a few bits away from him.

She didn't want to get him into a bad mood after all. Instead, her mind drifted to earlier today and the situation Kassandra now found herself in. She had toppled secret cabals and monsters of myth before but the situation she found herself in now felt overwhelming in how little she actually knew about the situation. The concept of the Mementos and the thefts were clear, but everything else. Plus now she started to second guess herself about revealing the situation to Dorothea. If someone found out...she let out a heavy sigh and dropped her head under the water and stayed there for a moment.

By the time she would get out of the water, she would see Balrog had gotten out (a towel around his waist fortunately) and was pouring himself a glass of wine. "Oh, you didn't drown." He said it in such a way that it sounded like if she had, he wouldn't have done anything about it.

@Jeremi

"I did not," She replied back. "Just needed to clear my thoughts. It's bad to leave things to fester before bedtime." She felt it was best to not say more about the matter and changed the subject. "I assume you have had a fulfilling day as well? The way you spoke earlier implied that this place is not like you're used to."

@Yun Lee

"It sure isn't. But I'll manage." Balrog chuckled to himself. "I dunno anything about the old emperor or that war, but man! Even without wifi this place is fancier than any casino I've seen back in Vegas. I could get used to living here..."

@Jeremi

"The well off and upper-class always live lavishly," Kassandra replied in a matter of fact tone. "While the rest live in squalor, but I understand what you mean. Being here has been quite an experience." She shuffled in the water a bit as she leaned over to the edge of the pool. "I've understood the old Emperor was young but wise, I'd much like to meet her if given the opportunity."

@Yun Lee

"What was her name...Edelweiss? Edeline? Eh. whoever she is, I wonder if she's all that wise enough to keep these tax rates up when she gets back." Balrog took a moment to take a sip of his wine. "Ahh...Who knows? Maybe she's the one who got them started."

@Jeremi

"Edelgard, and perhaps," Kassandra replied. There had been mention of war in the kingdom before the Melding, and war always cost money. "Taxes aren't nefarious if they are going for a good cause to improve the situation of the downtrodden...but usually they are only used to build up your own coffers as the common people suffer."

She couldn't believe Dorothea was friends with someone like that. Then again Kassandra hadn't known Dorothea for that long either but...she sank a bit further down into the water. Kassandra was suddenly not very interested to continue talking about this.

When Kassandra brought her head back up from the water, she would find herself alone. The bath was empty and silent save for the running water, and it seemed as though the precipitation had increased, causing a cold mist that created a sharp contrast with the hot water.

@Jeremi

Well...that was rude. Kassandra thought to herself as she got up from the bath. At least wait until the conversation was done before leaving, but she figured Balrog wasn't much for playing nice from the few interactions she'd had with him. Either way she had gotten herself clean as she had plan and started to head back to her room for what she hoped was some good nights rest.

As Kassandra walked down the hall, that same cold mist didn't leave. In fact, opening the doors to the hallway would reveal that the mist surrounded her outside the baths, as well. And with each step it got denser and denser, and colder and colder, until the Eagle-Bearer would find herself completely engulfed in the mist, unable to see anything other than a faint light up ahead.

@Jeremi

And this is why you never go anywhere without your weapons. Drawing her sword and the spear tip of Leonidas she started to make her way towards the dim light in front of her. Was this an attack? Had her secret been found out? Kassandra wasn't sure but she was going to find out.
