This helps to get a good position in the top rankings early on. For people wanting to help out around the site but who can't necessarily contribute in other ways, this is a great way to help out. I can't understate how important voting is. Almost all of our traffic comes from TopRPSites, and when we aren't in the top rankings, we don't draw in new users. @Lazzamore That's awesome! With the Commander's grandmother. It sounds like it worked out well.

    House Shial'Kot: a narrative form.

"Another drink? That makes four then. Seems you want something. Nobody buys me so many drinks without wanting something. So get asking! After all, it'd be bad if I drank you under the table before you run out of questions. So, what d'ya want to know? House Shial'Kot? Let me tell you, kid. Only fools, strong fools, or the bleedin nobility want to know House Shial'Kot. So which are you? Wait, wait. I don't want to know. It's your folly and your business. You just keep buying me drinks, and I'll keep talking. So then, House Shial'Kot. They're an ancient house. Date way back. Way back. Back before any recorded history, if you can believe it. They're a strange lot. Live in small clans, or families, united in being better than everyone else as warriors. It's all they care really care about. They used to creep out into the middle of the night and raid their neighbors, just to be sure. And anyone who went into their lands, was never seen again. Makes one wonder why the hell the overlord keeps em around, right? Well, first, it's not like that anymore. Well, it's half like that. People who go in without some sort of protection still get taken. Only safe with some clout. Heh, but they don't raid anymore. Course, don't need to. Our overlord pays them in technology for every dirty deed they do for the land. Send em somewhere and they get it done. And that's why our overlord likes em. They get the job done, no matter what. Throughout their service to the empire, they've only failed three times. Least, failed publicly three times. Who knows how many more times they've screwed up off the air. What? How they actually came into the empire? Who conquered them? Ha! Kid, nobody 'conquered' House Shial'Kot. Not for lack of trying mind you. The kingdom, some generations ago, threw a lot of what they had at the time at them. Not for any particular reason, mind you. Shial'Kot's land holds little to no resource value, a pain to actually build any infrastructure, and can't even really be farmed. I mean, no one really wants the place besides themselves. Hell if I know why they want it. Anyway, the reason I guess for the war was because they existed and hadn't bent the knee yet. And by all accounts, the war was living hell. Platoons were baited into deep mire and executed, bombardments pummeled villages and locals to find they only blew up sticks and swampy tuffs of land, aircraft were shot down from hidden installations while desperately searching for targets in the swamp mists and volcanic activity, an entire division had its supply lines cut and was annihilated from disease and starvation. Eventually, the kingdom pulled its own out and that was that. Conquered all the lands surrounding the 'noble' House. What does Shial'Kot do? Nothing. Kept as they were. Freelanced their people to whoever, murdering and destroying the 'important' people across the continent, blew up factories, and basically were the usual terrorists for hire. So what brought them in? A card game. A bleedin card game. Overlord's grandparent did it. Bold as brass, walked into the lands and met with the Matron. She's still alive, somehow. And then played a card game. Somewhere, somehow, inside that card game, the then overlord somehow convinced House Shial'Kot to abandon its bloody neutrality and join up. Well placed too, if I might add. Or, maybe it's as it seems. What? Maybe Matron Kom'Mok literally bet her House away against the old overlord. Who knows what the stakes of that game were. Not me. Even if I did, these seven drinks are nowhere near enough to get me to tell about it. Well, kid, I think that sums about most of it up. Best I get moving on. Don't like hanging around too much. Now kid, don't do anything too stupid out there, specially whenever it comes with the provinces. Don't matter if it House Shial'Kot, or any of the other houses. Sure, Shial'Kot may be one of the messed up ones, but at least they're fairly honest in that they are jacked to the seven hells and back. Not all are so pleasant. I mean, sure, some houses are fine, but you can't trust you'll end up wrapped up in one that isn't hiding fangs behind the smiles. Take care kid."

Ah, I apologize if I was too forward in calling them as overlord, but I'm glad people like it. I felt that is what we had decided or was prepping for with our slow conquest kingdom where provinces still maintain much autonomy and culture. At least, that is what I was picking up.

In any event, I naturally vote for a royal family.

I like both ovelord and emperor we could probably use them interchangeably?

Oh definitely. I would use them as such.

Hi all. Back home now, had to spend a few hours setting stuff up but I'm back now and ready to help out. :) Anything I need to know? anything we add or need to work on?

Yay! Glad you're back. Not too much has progressed beyond that the creation of provinces/houses/factions are now in the clear to be worked on while we wait for the current votes to come in.

I see. Well to throw in my two cents, I'm going to be making a robotic faction, as a I said before. I haven't worked out all the details, but they are religious group who turn their minds into code, implanting them into a grand sanctuary where their minds sit and rest until called upon to be implanted into synthetic bodies that aren't affected by the weaknesses of the human flesh. They could be sort of like not only a religion within the Empire but also a sort of R&D group who do research and experiments on behalf of the empire and in return they are allowed to practice their religion.

I love the idea of a robot faction! I mentioned some R&D in the underground area however my main interests are leaning more toward the military-industrial complex, to be honest. Did you have a province in mind? I'd be open to a collaboration if you were interested in the underground cavern area.

    @Sokka

I think I might be interested in making an underground cavern area. I'm thinking of making my own province but if you want to talk let's talk. Send me a PM and we can work things out.

Sounds like a a fun idea, @ChelonianCommander , I look forward to seeing what you deploy in detail.

So after a bunch of brainstorming, I'm going to be changing my faction idea a lot. So ignore my previous comments. I'm going to be working on a militaristic faction based on nobility and @ChelonianCommander and I are working on having some hatred and bad blood going between our groups. I'll probably move my group more to the surface etc. Anyways more details to come hopefully over the weekend I can get something written up!

    Name: The Network Caretakers
    Aliais: The Caretakers
Core Principles: The discovery, collecting, preservation and recording of knowledge and technology as well as the preservation of the mind and the elimination of the flaws of the flesh.
Motto: "Steel Flesh, Oil Blood, Immortal Minds"
    Population: 23 million
Capital: The Network Citadel: The Network Citadel is a large mega-city containing roughly 60% of the Caretakers. It's purpose for existing is to protect the Network which contains the millions of digitized minds of all of their followers.
Leadership: The Caretakers are seperated into three sections. The Development Sect, the Guardian Sect and the Charity Sect. There are 7 Ranks in each Sect. From lowest to highest the ranks are Followers, Deacons, Priests, Bishops, Archbishops, Cardinals, Grand Cardinal.
Organization: The Caretaker Sects are organized into three branchs, the Development Sect, the Guardian Sect and the Charity Sect. The Development Sect is responsible for the production of raw goods, refined materials, buildings, weapons, vehicles, research and even the frames used by the Caretakers. It is the largest Sect. The Charity Sect is the most widespread Sect as they are focused on doing repairs and medical services for the general populous as well as collecting donations and gifts from the populous as well as inducting new followers into the Network, and delivering them to the Network Citadel. The Guardian Sect is the military branch of the three sects as well as the smallest. The Guardian Sect is responsible for protecting the Network Citadel as well as all other Caretaker assets, such as mines, factories and outposts, but their most important task is defending the Network Citadel, which is their greatest asset.
Military: The Military of the Network Caretakers focuses on elite units designed on two methods of warfare. The first are known as the Shield Guardians, which make up 2/3 of the Guardian Sect and the other are known as the Spear Guardian, who make up the remaining 1/3. The Shield Guardian have tactics focusing on battles of attrition, with hardy, sturdy frames who can hold their position and lay down a large amount of ranged firepower against an enemy in the form of small arms and artillery fire. The Spear Guardian have tactics that focus on shock combat and surgical strikes using quick, mobile frames able to deal as much damage in a specific place in an enemy formation with close ranged and melee weaponry to allow more general forces to break through the enemy line.

When it comes to weaponry the Guardian Sect has a preference for heat based weapon known as Vapor weaponry, called so as they can turn an unarmored flesh and bone into nothing but vapor upon hit. Vapor weaponry fire a blue beam that are powerful against lightly or unarmored targets but have difficulty penetrating armored targets, at least the small arm variants do as there are Vapor weaponry designed to literally melt armor off a target.

Hello all (I don't know anyone's gender so...),
I saw your guys' world-building thread and heard aboot it from Chel on chat and, while I'm a bit late (7 pages late...), I was wondering if I could join you guys. I've read through and the world so far sounds amazing in terms of the flexibility and detail. So... thanks for reading? Considering? Idk, I'll be hanging around.

@Kian I have no problem with you joining so long as it's all good with the GM and everyone else.

@ChelonianCommander the weekend went much much faster than anticipated and I've gotten not much done. >_< I'll see what I can squeeze out over the week though. Also, your outline looks good I like it! I don't remember population stuff but I think the number makes sense given that they don't face loss from death and have built their numbers over time.

    Lazzamore WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!

@Kian : I'm cool with one more person. @Shadras , your still interested in helping with GM'ing the eventual RP, right? If you agree that we can handle another, then let's let him in.

We are currently working on provinces in a global empire. What we have so far is that the Vergothian Empire has pretty much conquered all civilization on our planet (yet to be named) and each of us will be creating a province in that empire. The tech level is a bit higher then modern, with post-modern weapons and what I assume is FTL travelling spaceships (right?). Our world is populated with all manner of both fantasy races and original races.

@Lazzamore I am most certainly willing to help with the GM duties and look forward to working with you. Welcome to the RP, @Kian .

I'd also say you're pretty spot on with our current tech level, @Lazzamore .

@ChelonianCommander Hopefully I'll have a force deployment sheet out tonight, although I may be delayed as I gear up for student teaching tomorrow and need to be up early enough for it, which will cut into my writing time tonight. Anyway, I think your Network Caretakers seem like an excellent faction overall. I have a clear understanding of what they are, and can begin constructing their agenda and how they contribute to the empire as a whole. What I would like to see is some of their history, specifically how/why they came to bow to the overlord to give an idea, or hints, to the thing that binds your province to the empire. This can be completely vague.
