Side Story » World Ending re:[Construct] Syndrome «

Although clear with hostile intent, the villagers that were around to attack the group weren't all that bad compared to the first time. There were relatively not that many to begin with. Only a couple of them. For those that didn't have their heads transform immediately, a few villagers who locked eyes with Death ceased to be without much struggle. A sign that his powers were still intact.

The rest were either shot by Jackson and Garrus, or impaled by the ice created by Saki.

❝ It's clear from here on out, let's keep going but with our guard up! ❞ Mion saw that there was no signs of more active villagers to the staircase leading up to the Furude shrine grounds. With Mion and Keiichi opting to show the way, Add had his Dynamo drones spread out around the group to further scope out for any possible ambushes. Nothing seemed to be picked up just yet.

As they went up the stone stairs, a noticeable amount of villager corpses were scattered on the ground, all of them missing their heads. The dead body count continued to rise as they got closer and closer to the shrine.

❝ ... there's no way those kids that got captured made this mess... something's not right here. ❞ Add pondered this out loud as the shrine finally came into view upon them reaching the top of the stairs. Almost like the setting had suddenly transformed, the moon above them had turned blood red, illuminating the surrounding area in a foreboding shade of crimson.

JfEQ2mi.png

The shrine building was just up ahead, and it didn't seem to be heavily guarded at all despite the obvious signs of activity within. That brief window of opportunity wouldn't last forever, however.

One of Add's Dynamos would be abruptly flung at the group, landing to the ground with slash marks and sparks flying out of it. Obviously, something did a number to Add's drone. Spotting a shining glint from the bushes, Keiichi realizes that Mion was in range for whatever was lurking in the forest's bushes nearby.

❝ MION! WATCH OUT!! ❞ Keiichi yells, getting her attention to the incoming danger. It was happening all too fast, that something was moving way too fast for her to readily act. Without a second to think it over, Keiichi pushes Mion out of the way, getting deeply slashed through his back.

Mion stares in absolute horror once she helplessly watches Keiichi collapse to the ground unconscious, and witnessing the culprit quite literally crawling out of the bushes. A large pulsating mass of flesh dragged its way towards the group with its numerous scythe-like tendrils.

❝ You've got to be kidding me... ❞ Add cursed upon seeing the creature reveal itself, already annoyed that one of his drones was destroyed. Still, he prepared his Dynamos for an attack that would need time to charge. Glancing over, he took note that Mion was trying to move the unconscious Keiichi out of the way. With his hands full here, Add could only hope that the others in the group can prove themselves useful right about now.

Looking through the telescope, Sunny would see the brief glimpse of the villagers dragging two girls into the shrine building. It doesn't take long for him to see the rest of the group along with Mion and Keiichi head off in the direction of the shrine, most definitely heading into a rescue mission. Soon, he would see a large fleshy monster appear near the group at the shrine's entrance. Before he could look through the telescope, the sound of someone climbing up the ladder to the attic could be heard.

sOdOjgz.png

❝ You're still here? So much for making this a clean investigation... ❞ Satoko sounded more annoyed than confused that Sunny was still here at the school safehouse. Walking up to the telescope, she didn't request to see through it, simply watching from afar with her own eyes.

❝ Sheesh... that's a problem alright. But if you're here... ❞ Satoko comments on the situation, somehow having a rough idea on what was happening out there. Before she could finish her statement, the feeling of something grabbing their ankles suddenly took place. Satoko glances down immediately to see shadowy hands stemming from the wooden floorboards tightly grabbing her ankle and Sunny's.

❝ C-crap! She's already here! ❞ She loses her cool, eyeing Sunny and waiting to see if he had any bright ideas on how to deal with this.

"Ghah...!"

Sunny gasped out in fear. Quickly grabbing his knife he tried to slash at the monstrous shadowy hands. If it worked and he broke free he would attempt to do it again on the monstrous hand grabbing Satoko's ankle.
With a sudden flare of magical energy from Saki, he'd attempt to slow the disgusting mass of flesh down by impaling it with ice. From there, if successful, he'd make his way over to where Mion was trying to move Keiichi and try to heal him, which if successful would have crystallized ice form over his wounds and once the healing process finished would break and fall away.

Hopefully, he could focus on healing the boy long enough that at least the worst of it would be healed.

Whatever Death was doing apparently worked though Jackson understood where Garrus was coming from. Still deciding not to comment he focused on pushing forwards with the others. He chose to hang back to wards the back now given the nature of his scoped weapon it made sense as they approached the shrine. This didn't seem heavily guarded which set off red flags in Jackson's mind as he started scanning the nearby bushes.

However he was not prepared for what came next as something suddenly lashed out at Mion only for Keiichi to take it instead. Jackson's eyes widen as he saw what amounted to a large mass of flesh came out of the bushes the realization of how unprepared he was for this shit. Jackson was stunned but thankfully the soldier training kicked him sending the soldier into autopilot as he raised his rifle the number for fighters around him overriding his current fear.

"Civi down! Garrus! Sev! Covering fire!" Jackson calls out to the only two people he even remotely knows as he fires a shot at this mass of flesh hoping to draw it's attention so it hopefully won't go after Saki. An order given entirely out of desperation as his mind tried to formulate a strategy.

The journey to the Shrine wasn't easy, but... Surprisingly, they experienced less resistance than Alice expected. The zombie-like creatures which she had assumed to be the calamity construct's familiars. If they were getting closer, and they were somehow coming up against less resistance as they got closer to the calamity construct, then... It must be planning something.

Rather than spreading its forces thin, maybe... The Construct itself was about to challenge them in battle.

And once they got close to the Shrine entrance, as Keichi was brought down by a large, pulsating mass, she realized what she was looking at, or so she thought.

"That's it! That's the calamity construct!" She shouted.

There was a pause as she glanced over to Keichi, seeing the others defend him as Saki began to heal Keichi, she looked relieved.

But soon expression turned into a determined one as she faced off against the large, pulsating mass of flesh.

"I'll use all the mana I can muster to contain this! This creature, we'll finish it... Right here, right now!" She shouted.

Then, after taking a moment to set her familiars she left at the school building to an autonomous state, she closed her eyes, and raised her hands to either side of her, mana crackling around her body as all the magic circuits in her body lit up, illuminating her very form with a almost circuit-like network of red markings.

"To make the world a better place, to cure the world of it mistakes... I summon thee, oh world of mine. A place where dreamers wake. The place he once called... Paradise!" She shouted.

And then, something changed.

The Shrine itself was suddenly surrounded by an endless field, gears and old weapons lay everywhere.

onAVCD8.png

Beneath the ground, there was the subtle glowing of bluish wires, the same once Alice used to manifest her familiars. These wires began to snake up from the ground, forming swords, and other simple weapons. While some of these weapons acted autonomously, fighting along side bird-like creatures, that appeared to act like a more powerful version of Alice's familiars, there were plenty of these sorts of weapons free for the taking.

At least for however long Alice's spell lasted.

It seemed she was prepared to give this battle everything she got, now that they were close to stopping the Calamity Construct here in its tracks.

"…"

In spite of all the craziness in front of him, Sunny still held a stoic face. If not a hint of confusion.

Being the only one from a world with no magic in the room with two witches and Alice’s familiars would definitely earn that confused glint.

But soon enough Lambdadelta’s candy dropped in front of the boy, which he picked up. He assumed this was one of those weird magic grenades Lambdadelta threw out.

Sunny chucked the candy at Akyros. It was rather weak, so it probably landed at her feet, but since it’s a magic grenade he hoped it just blew up anyways.

Overall, Kofuku had been rather uncharacteristically quiet. She maintained the distance she'd initially kept from the group, but the conversation in the safehouse nevertheless made her wonder about the nature of these so-called Calamity Constructs. If it was possible for them to take the shape of a human, then... would it truly be fair to rob them of their lives, just for being designed from the start to sow pain and sorrow for all those they surrounded themselves with? She herself had been made that way. Would these people think she needed to die, too, if they knew?

The war of her thoughts was dismissed upon receiving news of their allies' captures, and the goddess once more steeled herself for a fight. Her power and life force alike had steadily corroded since the fall of her world, and beyond that, she was still rusty in hands-on combat. She needed to be cautious if she didn't wish to unintentionally open up a vent; but she was determined to guarantee the safety of these people and their home. She didn't know how long she'd be able to go on, her existence carried by a mere handful of memories, but she hadn't lost hope. If she could make a mark here- gain a friend, save a life or fulfill a wish, no matter how small- maybe she would gain more than just momentary happiness. Maybe she'd gain a way to live.

Fired up by her determination despite her initial woes, the pinkette rushed along with the rest of the group, growing slightly uneasy at the sight of the massacre before them. There seemed to be two possibilities; the 'captured' friends of their ally may have broken free and taken these monsters down as they did so, or...

View attachment 11087

O-or, that!

Well, at least on the bright side... this thing certainly wasn't like her as she had worried. There wasn't a single trace of humanity to its feats, no sign of sentience or a soul. Kofuku was nothing like the monster standing before them... which meant this whole process would be a lot easier. Especially after Alice activated her 'reality marble', providing them backup and extra weaponry. Not that she needed that. Her staff might not have looked like much to an outsider, but to Kofuku, she was worth more than the gold for which she was named.

"...Hey, hey~ Over here, big, scary monster~!"

And so the young lady leaped into action, dashing around the creature's large mass and to the opposite side of it from the rest of the group. She began to lash out, hoping to distract it while her comrades opened fire from its front. But inside, she made a mental note not to let it touch her; its strange eye reminded her of the ayakashi, and she didn't want to deal with any further blights than the one already festering upon her neck. And beyond that... she had no desire to find out what happened when two calamity magnets touched each other.

During this duel between apparent Witches, a peculiar looking star candy fell to the ground near Sunny and Alice's familiars. It had a bit of writing that said "Throw me~!" on the base of the candy. Guess Lambdadelta left that there on purpose...

The mass of flesh didn't do much in the way of protecting itself from the incoming attacks. Ice, gunfire, and scythe slicing. The monster halted from the damage done to it. It wasn't done, however, as a faint aura of darkened shadows lingered around the monster. Somehow, the shadows' presence regenerated the damage done to the fleshy monster before said shadows retreated from the scene.

Mion was unsure on what Saki was doing at first as she was at Keiichi's side, but she found herself amazed that Saki was... healing Keiichi's wounds just like that. Well, it wasn't a full recovery in an instant, it would slowly begin to seal up but it wasn't like he was going to regain consciousness right this second. This on top of the fact that Alice using some spell that changed the surrounding's appearance around them, Mion didn't see much reason on questioning in when the village was overrun by these fleshy monsters before the group's arrival. Glancing at one of the swords summoned near her by Alice's spell, Mion silently takes it into her hands, not used to handling a sword before.

The monster's attention was focused on Jackson and Death, its sharpened tendrils wildly flailing at them as it let out a high-pitched gargled scream. Without the shadows assisting its regenerative properties, the monster bellows out inhumane screams while attacking in a frenzied state. Each time it let out a scream, the flesh around this monster would unravel and reveal a single eye.

While one hand was held hovering above where the wound was, Saki took a quick glance at the fighting and clicked his tongue as the grotesque being was still alive.

Focusing on healing the unconscious teen, he kept an eye on the fight otherwise in case he needed to assist.

"So far the worst of it is being healed, but it'd be best to keep an eye on the wound just to be safe." He spoke to Mion.

Sudden realization hitting him like a truck as the very ground around him changes Jackson running off instinct and adrenaline takes off for cover barely avoiding an incoming scythe attack. Scrambling into cover heart racing after a close shave with death he works the bolt on his rifle noting that only two bullets were left loaded.

Taking a moment to clutch his cross necklace he popped out briefly from cover to fire his rifle at the single eye.

"Well this is a contender for the ugliest thing I've ever seen."

Garrus heard Jackon's call for cover fire and swapped his assault rifle for his armor piercing Widow sniper rifle. Once he got sight on the tendrils harassing Jackson, he focused on severing them with each shot. He would try and cover the other combatants as well.

"Search for a weak point! I've got your back!"

Death knew what their target would be as the eye came into view. "Aim for the eye," He remarked to the others as he tried to get a good swipe with his weapon at it. While the creatures up until now had only been fodder they were still putting up quite a fight.

"We can't delay much longer on this creature," Death said to the others in the group as he avoided another lashing of the monster. "Our real target is no doubt slipping away as we speak."

As Alice continued to fight on, she felt a sudden ache in her head, and an all too familiar soreness coarse through her body. Those familiars she had left back at the Schoolbuilding, they were fighting something!

Though they were acting autonomously, she had made sure to assign special protocols to them in case of an emergency situation, they were all the same taking their toll on her mana supply.

There was no telling how long she could maintain her reality marble under this kind of strain, but... If she could just maintain it long enough to defeat the calamity construct, that was all she needed.

As Mion picked up one of the swords laying around, it glinted for a moment, then its shape and appearance changed. Soon, it had become a katana of sorts, light in weight, but yet... Surprisingly study for its make.

At the same time, as Alice began to manifest more swords and familiars to distract the creature up front, she noticed Jackson running low on animation. And reflexively, she changed one of the swords near Jackson into a M1-Garand rifle. It gleamed with magic, seeming customized to fire projectiles similar in nature to Alice's avian familiars, and to top it off, it seemed designed for left-handed use.

It appeared Alice had studied these weapons at once point. Enough to know how to replicate them with her magic, using one of her familiars as a base. Though... There was no telling how long it would last.

It was then that Alice noticed it, seeing the fleshy abomination screech as an eye clearly presented itself.

"There! I... Think that's its weak point! Let's give it everything we have! Focus fire on its eye!" She shouted.

The familiars, acting largely autonomously, swarmed around Akyros, skillfully weaving in and out of battle, assisting Lambda as they fired bolt after bolt of magical energy,

Though as this happened, a stray familiar drifted towards Sunny, not long after he threw the candy, hovering by him for a few moments as it seemed to gaze towards him.

Then, its body shone, as it swiftly transformed itself into one of those blades Alice used on battle. Except this one remained stationary, and was smaller in size. It floatedtowards Sunny, as if offering itself to him.

Taking a moment to glance over he noticed that what he was sure was once a sword was now what appeared to be an M1 Garand stuck into the ground next to him. Look of bewilderment aside he slung his rifle over his shoulder and grabbed the Garand giving a nod to Alice before he once again popped out of cover to fire.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

As soon as the thrown candy got close enough to Akyros, it would explode in a ridiculously cartoonish manner. Given how the Witch of Entities was more focused on Lambdadelta, she was caught off-guard by the candied bomb, her attempts to avoid it at the last second not working to her favor. Akryos' left arm would be blown off from the bomb, leaving murky shadows seeping out of her arm's crude stump. In that moment, Sunny would get that opportunity to slash Akyros with the sword provided from Alice's familiars, causing more shadows to seep out of her body uncontrollably.

8y8Z48l.png

❝ Whoa... wait a sec... ❞ Lambdadelta, at first, felt puzzled that the opposing Witch simply stopped... attacking her, even more so how Sunny was able to get a slash in. That's when she realized that something was up. Before the gushing shadows could make contact with Sunny, Lambda would pull him away, placing another candy on his person.

❝ Sorry kiddo, but miss angsty shadow lady isn't pulling punches right about now! Can't have one of you participants dying, so let me get you outta here!! ❞ She says as the candy shoved into Sunny's hands began to flash. Meanwhile, the shadows began to flood the school safehouse rapidly, confused rambling from probably Rena and the other children could be heard.

❝ Just try and stay alive for my other buddies to help you guys out, okay? ❞ Lambdadelta requested with a genuine voice of concern, her eyes locking with Sunny and Alice's familiars for a second before focusing back on Akyros. Without another second wasted, the star-shaped candy let out a blinding light, obscuring the rest of the Witchs' clash from there on.

❝ Thank you, really. It's a relief to hear... that he's going to be alright, ❞ Mion let out a breath of relief to hear that Keiichi was going to be fine due to Saki's healing. She really didn't want more unnecessary deaths in this village, especially those of her friends. She blinked to see that the sword she picked up was now a katana, something she was a little more familiar with due to her upbringing as the next Sonozaki head.

First there were a few shots from Jackson that only raised more of its tantrum toward the group, but before it could swipe its tendrils at him... Garrus provided the covering fire he needed. As a result, some of its tendrils were shot clean off, but there were still more that were lashing out. The abomination's attention was then split, also targeting Kofuku as she drew near. It would never get to make physical contact with her using its tendrils, however, as Add's Dynamos would intervene and restrain the rest of the tendrils to allow the others the opening they needed with their combined assault.

❝ Tch, I was aiming to use a full power attack protocol, but I'll have to settle for this. Especially with how you were dangerously close to getting injured with that stunt of yours. ❞ Add chastised the pinkette for the risky maneuver, but left his frustrations at that for now. The others would be able to do the rest regarding this fleshy monster.

Death's scythe swipe tore through the surrounding flesh that was otherwise covering up the exposed eye and then some, blood splattered from the damaged eye. Then another shot from Jackson nailed the monstrous beast straight in its eye once more, enhanced by Alice's Reality Marble.

Heavily battered, damaged, and worn out from the combined assault, the monster bellowed out a weakened screech in retaliation. It clearly wasn't going to down without a little bit of fight left. However, with the addition of Add's Dynamos binding whatever sharpened tendrils were left on itself, the monstrous threat was nothing more than a rabid creature needing to be put down for good.

Mion had been waiting for a safe opportunity to get a hit in on the fleshy beast, wanting to at least do something to protect what little left they had in this village. Now that the exact moment has opened up, the teenager held the katana she got from Alice's magic tightly in her hands, charging forward and impaling the monster straight through its eye with the blade.

A blood-curdling wail echoed out from the monster one last time, now soon meeting its end. She kept the blade embedded into its eye, wanting to make sure that it'll die here and now. However, a faint and feeble voice gasped out from the dying monster's form.

❝ T... th... ank... y... ou... ❞ In that moment, the monstrous atrocity began to disintegrate into dust, revealing a young girl with purple hair having been inside the monster this whole time. Or rather, it was more like this girl was turned into that monster all along.

❝ ... Ri... ka. ❞ Mion muttered in horrified disbelief, helplessly frozen in place as she watches Rika's body go limp and sliding off of the blade... dropping to the ground with a thud. Processing that this was indeed real, Mion collapses to her knees, letting go of the katana from her hands. Incomprehensible sobbing soon followed, all while Keiichi was finally stirring from his unconsciousness.

Now with the monster slain, Add calls back his drones and eyes the shrine, which had its front doors opened for them to enter. He then deduces, ❝ I suppose the real Calamity Construct is in the shrine, or else we wouldn't still be here after all of that. That monstrosity we fought only seemed to be a byproduct of the Construct. ❞

Glancing at Keiichi and Mion, the scientist only groaned in annoyance, ❝ I'll remain here to let these children gather their bearings. You can do the same or go on ahead to the shrine to end this damned calamity. ❞

As the path for the group was made clear to them, an ear-shattering explosion resounded from the school safehouse. It was hard to tell what was up from where they were at the shrine hill, but it looked like... a constant flooding of shadowy mud began to gloss over the village fields below the hill. It didn't take an idiot to guess that they most likely were running out of time.

With that in mind, those who chose to go into the shrine first would see that it was in great disrepair. Various body parts, blood, and rot littered the shrine's interior, not even a clean spot could be seen on the floorboards at all. To the side, an opened trapdoor to the basement level of this shrine was visible to the group. In a more puzzling case, the group in the shrine would see that Sunny was there, unharmed and fully conscious. Only known to Sunny (or assumed, in this case), he was probably warped here to safety to avoid the shadowy destruction that Lambdadelta faced from Akryos. Aside from that, it was only a clear answer that the Construct was kept in such a place, given that the gory mess only intensified around this basement entryway.

Down to the basement, the room reeked of decaying rot and flesh, and the various ritual-esque tools and torture devices in this room had signs of frequent use from the stench alone. The group wasn't exactly alone once they made it to this room. There, a couple handful of demented villagers were gathered around an altar where a teenager girl that appeared to be around Keiichi and Mion's age could be seen tied down by the waist, wrists, and ankles to said altar. One of these villagers had a saw ready to try and cut into the girl's stomach, but then stopped once the group essentially made their way in.

❝ Oh thank god you guys finally showed up! This is obviously not the way I wanted to go, like I wanted to go out in a bang at least... not like a butchered animal and all. ❞ The girl exclaimed in relief, sounding certain that they were here to rescue her. By process of elimination, it would be safe to assume that this was Nia.

❝ Look, uh... just help me out of these restraints, pretty please! ❞ She begs for help, moving her arms and legs to no avail due to the tightly tied rope used to keep her on the altar. At the same time, the villagers didn't waste time on arming themselves with whatever crude tools were lying around in this basement, having the intent on attacking the group.

That was… until-

❝ Enough. ❞ A firm voice halts the villagers almost immediately. At the same time, the strange crescent moon mark on everyone's hand began to burn in reaction to a particular presence. Footsteps approaching a bloodied door, it soon opens to reveal a woman who appeared to not even fit with the village's environment. Her presence alone made the frenzied villagers kneel before her.

❝ You must be the Game's participants... I see. ❞ The woman was quick to recognize that they were a part of the Game, crossing her arms as she spoke her next words addressed to the group.

❝ To these villagers and this illusionary world, I'm called Cecilia, but I prefer that you call me C.C. instead. In this Game, I'm supposed to be the Calamity Bearer... However, I've had enough of this farce, so I request that you will hear out an offer from me to mutually benefit all of us. It's your choice to listen or not, but I won't fight back against all of you. ❞

Jackson having spent the last shot in this surprise Garand was greeted with the familiar ping noise as he looks up from the iron sight face in shock at seeing what the monster really was. He shakes his head as now wasn't the time to lose focus but that image of the little girl on the end of the blade Mion wielded wouldn't leave his mind entirely. All the more reason to push into the shrine and take this sick bastard out as far as he's concerned. He checked the rifle in his hands confused as it seemed completely loaded once more which was a welcome convivence as he didn't have the proper clips for an M1 on him.

Taking one last glance at the appearing to be dead little girl and Mion Jackson decides to push forward approaching Garrus as he passed his alien comrade he simply said " Appreciate the cover fire...now lets g-....' his sentience cut off by an ear shattering explosion causing him to look back determining that something happened back at the safehouse.

"....That had to be the school! We need to move double time!" Were the next words that came out of Jackson's mouth as he pushed into the shrine with the others who had gone in. A new sense of urgency awakening in him as he sees the villagers surrounding a tied down woman identifying herself as Nia. If he still has the rifle from Alice's reality marble he'd raise it to aim at the villagers. If not then he'd raise his pistol just about to fire until someone new approaches. As this new person revealed themselves Jackson kept his aim on the villagers at this moment preferring to let Keener and Death do the talking at this moment.

❝ Whoa... wait a sec...

Saki had been ready to help free Nia and defend both himself and the group from the villagers before Cecelia, preferring to go by C.C. spoke and made her presence known.

"Is that so? Then, by all means, do tell us." He sighed, but remained at the ready to either free Nia, or at the very least put a protective barrier around her for the time being if things went south any further.

Considering everyone's demands to know what she did, CC was fully prepared to give as much as she knew about the situation. So in the next few moments, the awaited explanation would be told to them. Yet, that wouldn't be the case. For reasons unknown, it seemed like time began to slow gradually, and CC seemed to be unaware to the fact. On the contrary, the group would be fully aware of this. Much like they were somehow excluded in the gradual halt of time itself.

A murky dark void began to spread on the ground itself, sudden flooding out of nowhere that would reach their ankles. A cruel reminder of the previous incidence of this to Saki, no doubt. Maybe they were treading dangerous territory by asking CC for such crucial information about this Game, that their gamemaster Cassum did not approve of this exchange at all. The nature of the muddy darkness was near identical to what Sunny dealt with back at the schoolhouse.

However, they were still able to move about and do what they wished as the void threatened to overwhelm them all, yet had no way of leaving the shrine's basement due to some unseen force. So they were simply... stuck, like sitting ducks awaiting their eventual end...

❝ Ha... this again? ❞ Nia snickered a bit in amusement, also being excluded from the halting of time around them. Despite being still tied down to the wooden altar, the teenage girl manages to break free upon a flash of green light around her, casually landing in the muddy flooding of darkness on the ground. She didn't seem to pay much mind to the others, as she was more focused on the gamemaster.

❝ I bet you're watching this, Cassum. Cleaning up the board when we're just getting started? Oh nuh uh uh~ ❞ She took on a more confident and playful tone of voice, a complete contrast from her timid and helpless behavior moments earlier. Nia raised her hand with a mischievous grin plastered on her face, an overwhelming surge of energy stemmed from her presence.

tumblr_inline_nhome7S0Vi1s6avhq.png

❝ Sorry not sorry for wrecking your fun, Cas-chan~, but maybe you should've made sure you sealed ALL of my magic away next time~ ❞ Nia sneered before snapping her fingers. Soon after in quick succession, an ear-piercing shattering of glass could be heard, then a blinding light came afterwards.

Then the next moment, the group's surroundings were completely different than that rundown shrine basement.

. . .

znTiuWa.jpg

A ruined structure sheltered the group from the pounding rain. Just like before, they were unable to fully leave the area to investigate, an unseen force forbidding them from leaving the ruined shelter. In addition, they weren't exactly alone either.

Cassum could be seen with another individual that was rested against the stone wall of the ruined structure, except this individual appeared more like a blank misty mass of white light taking a loose resemblance to a humanoid form. There was not much that can be taken away from this strange unidentifiable person, as their existence seemed to be an existential paradox of some kind.

The Sorcerer of Nothing glanced around to ensure his privacy with this individual, disregarding the group's presence entirely. For a moment, he paced over to further scope out for any eavesdroppers, walking right through Alice as if the latter was a ghost. This would cement that this was some sort of vision at some point in time, unable to change the events of this interaction.

Certain that he and this individual were truly alone, he breathes a sigh of relief as he crouched down to the blank figure.

❝ How do you feel? ❞ Cassum asks in a gentle voice, taking a hold of the individual's "hand" with a careful grip.

❝ A--i---, I -ue--... ❞ The individual's voice glitched out in a heavily distorted manner, only the sound of vowels could be made out but it was hard to really understand what was being said.

❝ You may say so, but you sound shaken up from the experience. Few get to live to see another day after losing their entire world in such a manner... ❞ He shakes his head, not taking the person's response as a good enough answer.

❝ --a-... -o- -i- -ou --o- --a-? ❞ The "head" of this person tilted, something about Cassum's words confused them.

❝ I'm no stranger to these kinds of events. The very traitor that you thought was your mother in a false reality... she must be something else to orchestrate a horrid disgrace to natural life itself. Pitting your existence to a facade that had no other end than to be thrown away... ❞ Cassum speaks with a shaky voice, but then maintains his composure upon following his words up with, ❝ Ah, enough of that. I must be stirring up feelings of grief and betrayal that are probably still fresh in your mind. Um... ❞

❝ I-'- o-a-. I'-- -e o-a-. -u-... d- a-- --e o--e- -o---- -au-e a-- e-- i- --a-e-ie- -i-e --i-? -u-- -i-e -o- -ou -o-- -e o- ou- -a- -e-e. ❞ Whatever this individual said, it sparked a reaction in Cassum, almost like he was... anticipating this kind of response, whatever it was.

❝ Well, technically yes, in a way. Not to the extent of your specific tragedy, but yes, every world has its own tragedies in every waking moment. ❞ The Sorcerer of Nothing answers with a steady yet careful tone, as if tailoring an appropriate response for this individual alone. To his surprise, however, the individual threw themselves into what seemed to be a desperate hug, their distorted voice echoing from intense emotions.

❝ --e- -e- -e e-- i- a--! --ea-e. -e-- -e e-- --e-e --a-e-ie- a- o--e. -ou -o-- -e --a- I -o-- --e key -o --o--i-- a-- o- --i- -u--e-i-- ou- --e-e i- --e
-u--i-e--e, -o --ea-e... I -a-- -o e-- --i- -o-! ❞
The more he listened to the individual's words, the more Cassum's surprise turned into... a smile. It would be safe to assume that the individual had buried their face onto his chest, obscured their view on his facial expression at the moment.

❝ Of course of course. I promised you a wish upon rescuing you. No matter how selfish it may be. ❞ Cassum spoke in a comforting voice, which was a stark contrast to the sinister smile on his face that the group could see in this vision. The environment began to crumble apart, like this was the extent of this memory. Before it would abruptly end, Cassum could be heard reassuring the individual while unveiling his true colors in what he presumed to be complete privacy.

❝ Don't worry, I will do what I can to ensure that we can end it all. I will see to it, Miu. ❞

...

ypEnPJd.jpg

❝ ... are you guys... doing okay? ❞ CC asked in genuine concern as the group would return to their senses. ❝ I was about to start explaining what I know... then you all started to... space out like you saw a ghost? ❞

To the group's point of view, it was like whatever they experienced from time halting, the threatening pools of darkness, Nia's sudden magical display, the memory from Cassum and the unidentifiable figure, all of that... never happened in the first place. Yet they retained knowledge of said events?

❝ Just get on with the exposition dump already! ❞ Nia exclaimed loudly, and to the group's already stacked confusion, the green-haired teenager could be seen still tied down to the altar. Much like she never did break free on her own and use her magic... ❝ If these people wanna hear you tell a story, you better tell them or you're gonna get lots of hurt for messing up this village, you hear me?! ❞

"…"

Sunny was confused, baffled even, unsure of what to make of everything. Yet his face still stood as stoically as possible.

But for the first time, he spoke. Maybe it was out of confusion, but perhaps it may have just been something that was on his mind.

"…who is Akyros…?" He muttered quietly, just loud enough for CC to hear, "…why did she kill the pink lady…?"
