Here are a few tips that may benefit you:

1) Sometimes new players can get a bit worried about keeping up with more experienced players, to that I'd say don't worry we've all been new and just starting out.

2) Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for feedback!

3) I think this is the most important one.... Have Fun!

Do you have any specific genres like sci fi, fantasy or horror etc that you are interested in?

You can do many things.

Read what other roleplayers write

Read literature generally

Start slow.

And as @Sokka mentioned you need to have fun, that is the only part that reeaaally matters.
