The Arcane Tower rose high into the clouds of the forbidden lands of Askia. It had chunky walls made from white marble with surprisingly elegant windows despite the harsh looking environment the tower was in. They were scattered across the walls in a seemingly random order.
A huge gate with heavy metal doors and hot oil pots guards the only passage into the tower built upon a mountain top, but it's not the only way in, which only very few know.
In the highest part of the tower was a grand, putrid room. Unlike the rest of the tower, this room looked like it hadn't been used in years. It was filthy, covered in moss, broken stone and dead vermin. In the corner of the room sat the immortal princess Blaire, who was curled up and completely still in silence. "Wake up!" Called a rough voice from outside her room. Slowly, Blaire opened her eyes, looked up from ground and towards the bars of her cell. A man stood there. He was tall, thin and had skin as pale as the moon. His sunken eyes were as black as ink with an evil glint in them. He then gave a false smile.
Knowing what was to come, Blaire stood up and walked towards the cell. The man smirked as he watched her come closer. "It is time," He said, reaching into his robe. He pulled out a silver key and unlocked the cell, grabbing Blaire by the arm and forcibly pulling her out of it after.
Blaire and the man walked down the long staircase that led to her room and eventually entered what looked an a church at the bottom of the tower. The moonlight shone through the heavily cracked stained-glass windows, casting an eerie glow onto the dusty alter. On both sides of a velvet carpet leading to the altar stood men and women covering in a robe from head to toe. As the man holding Blaire led her forward, fear shook through the princess. She had to find a way out of this.
After minutes of struggling in vain, she finally escaped the man's grasp on her and ran towards the wooden oak doors the led to the outside.
"Hey! Get back here!" Her captor yelled out. As Blaire opened the doors and ran outside, he and other members of his group chased after her. Blaire soon found herself running through the swampy terrains of the forbidden lands.
After hours of running, she began to lose track of where she was going but seemed to have lost them.
The ugly swamps of the forbidden lands were soon no more as Blaire found herself in a different land. It was a forest. The forest was humble, shadowy, and thriving. Its canopy was demanded by sequoia, hawthorn, and yew, and occasional openings in their crowns allowed plenty of light through for a motley of ferns to control the crunchy layer of leaves below.
Thick branches embraced many trees, and an array of flowers, which grew dispersed and sparingly, enriched the otherwise unchanging backdrop.
A cacophony of wild sounds, most belonged to bird songs, echoed in the air, and were in harmony with the occasional splashes of frogs jumping in the nearby lake. It was nothing like Blaire had ever seen before.
However, Blaire didn't have much time to marvel at the place as she'd like for she then felt a sharp, horrible pain in her back. She looked around to see where it came from and for a moment, she saw one of the people chasing her earlier hiding with a now empty bow in his hands before going back to hiding. Eyes wide, Blaire moved again, going deeper into the forest slowly. But eventually, she couldn't take it anymore and fell.
Blood slid along her body, underneath her clothes, and to the ground. It was warm but her body felt cold and so did her mind. So many times had she died before and now it was happening again. She felt tears running down her cheeks and she sobbed a little. Slowly, ever part of her went numb. Her legs, her arms, her mind. Soon she couldn't feel anything anymore and had no choice but to close her eyes.
