Mason placed a hand on his forehead and closed his eyes. Memories were still swimming back to him. Othinus, the Great Spirits, their allies, their enemies...

The multiverse was dying, for real this time. He remembered the emptiness on the destroyed and rebuilt universes Othinus had caused. This void felt almost familiar in that way. He remembered being temporarily erased himself and shuddered at the thought. His sister and friends were in the middle of that erasure. Macy, Robin, Cheza, Ben, Schala... it didn't matter where they were. They were about to be erased. Even his home universe, which he hadn't seen for years, was likely being destroyed this very moment.

He lowered his hand and clenched it into a fist. A purple aura surrounded it. Anger and frustration burned in his heart, but at least they could fuel his powers. His abilities were still intact, and that means he could fight to save what was left. He took a deep breath and thought, "Stay positive, Mason. You're not dead yet. Things look bleak, but you're still here. Smile..."

Mason tried to ignore the bickering going on between Lucifer and Cullen. Such friction was common for new groups, and he hoped they could work it out themselves.

"Triss Merigold." She said, introducing herself to Billy, and by extension, the rest of the group. "I'm here at the behest of the MEU and Lodge of Sorceresses, if they even exists anymore." She said, shrugging.

@Atomic Knight @Ver @Jeremi @Lucky @Everyone, I guess

Instead, he greeted Triss and introduced himself to those he hadn't met before. "Nice to meet you, Triss. I'm Mason Moretti. I work for the United Universes. The MEU, the Lodge, and the UU... As long as we're here, at least a part of them is still alive, right? Working together, we'll break them free from stasis and restore the multiverse."

Lucifer Morningstar

" And here, I thought you were going to be the Beacon of Hope here, even when you were mind-controlled, you always kept hopeful," he replied, back to him. It was weird to see him so hopeless. " I think that's what Billy is planning. I guess, I should formally introduce myself. The name's Lucifer Morningstar. And yes, dwelling does seem pointless now."

Giorno Giovanna Prologue
"Returning to Nothing"

A god like Othinus always gets what she wishes, and to defy a god... Many humans would not even dare defy a god.

But then, you aren't like most humans, are you... Giorno Giovanna?

***

Even the deepest, most barren bowels of Knowhere were flush with an air of uneasy celebration - like that of bloodied soldiers patting each other on the back after winning one battle of a greater war. Everywhere he looked, the unwilling heroes of the multiverse - the unknowable swirling enormity that lies beyond our world - seemed to be less than ecstatic over the outcome of the battle. Allies were tired, and leaders were stressed; the thought of facing an even greater threat weighed heavy on their minds. Uncertainty consumed them all.

No one knew if they had the resolve to see the end of this path. No one except for Giorno Giovanna. Or, again, so he thought.

View attachment 6361

Knowhere's meeting room was as frigid as the post-battle debrief from Kirigiri and Doppo from half-an-hour before. Everyone had long funneled out of the room to deliberate among themselves, leaving Giorno Giovanna standing alone at the far end of the table. He hadn't given much thought to it, but no one wasted any time retreating from the 'celebrations' after the initial 'hype' had worn off. Giorno leaned against a nearby wall, a thin, golden object dancing between his fingers as he wordlessly twirled it there.

View attachment 6357

It'd been at least a few hours since he used it. Somehow, even now, Giorno felt heat radiating off the tip of the Arrow, nearly scalding to the touch. The don quietly sighed, twirling the golden artifact back beneath his school uniform as he sensed someone approaching the room from the hallway. To no surprise of his own, the meeting room doors slid open to a flowing white coat.

View attachment 6358

"... Guess you really are staying," Jotaro said without pausing his movement, slipping beneath the doorway before returning his hands to his coat pockets. "Good grief. You're more stubborn than my grand-dad, you know that?"

Giorno couldn't help but smirk at the comment, pushing off the back wall with his feet and approaching the table. "Of course. I meant what I said. There's no use going home knowing that the battle is far from over. As much as I would've liked for Othinus to have been the last threat to deal with... I can't force myself to ignore what Kirigiri said."

"I've yet to see the end of this path. The most effective job, in my opinion, is the one you only do once. That is all that I need to say."

Jotaro's expression didn't change. "Yeah, yeah, you don't need to convince me. Or anyone, for that matter. You don't seem like the type of person to change your mind so easily, and if Doppo couldn't convince you to go home then no one will. But then again, they need all the help they can get."

"... And... Jolyne and Ermes?"

The older Joestar already shook his head, catching the question before it even finished leaving Giorno's lips. "Gone. Jolyne wanted to go home. For once, her and I agreed on something. She and Ermes are back in Green Dolphin State, right where we found them."

Giorno arched a brow. "You allowed your daughter to go back to prison?"

Jotaro glared daggers at the young don's implication, but shrugged at the same time. "That's where she wanted to be. Fiamma recommenced that we don't interfere with the timeline more than we already have, and that the 'Jotaro Kujo of her world will find his way back to her as fate would have it.'"

"If I find out he's tracking her again, I'll have Josuke pound him into a statue. Only after Star Platinum is done with him."

Giorno nodded. He couldn't blame Jolyne for wanting to have nothing to do with the multiverse. She was more reasonable than everyone else in that regard. A bit surprising that Ermes would turn down a fight, but, if Jolyne wasn't ready to throw down then no one was. Perhaps some day, in another time, he'd pay a visit to America. Bribing the prison guards wouldn't be too hard.

But then only one question remained on his mind as he met eyes with Jotaro Kujo again. "What about you?"

"You already know the answer."

View attachment 6363

Giorno furrowed his brow. "What? I can understand Jolyne wanting to go home, but... you? This battle is far beyond what either of us have come across in our own world, Jotaro. You are one of the most powerful Stand Users I've ever come across, and with the power of Over Heaven combined with my Requiem... the enemy'll be dead before they even realize what's happened. We have an obligation to fulfill, because there are more lives at stake than you can even imagine!"

"I don't have obligations to anyone."

"How would Josuke Higashikata and his friends feel if you'd decided to give up the hunt for Yoshikage Kira because Morioh-Cho wasn't your home town? Hm? All the effort you put in thus far would have been for nothing. It'd be useless. Find the resolve to push onward to the end, and we'll all be able to go home."

"... Give me a break," Jotaro turned his body fully now. Only now did his towering size become apparent to Giorno. "Tell me, then, when does it end? When do the enemies stop coming?"

The two men allowed the question to hang in the air between them, stewing in the silence of the meeting room. All the uncertainty and uneasiness that came with the end of DIO's reign resurfaced in a bubble, looming between the Joestars like a ticking bomb. It was as if they both knew the other would not join them, and how that would spell the end. Jotaro finally broke the silence with a long, exasperated sigh.

View attachment 6362

"I saw the end of Aoko's prophecy. I put DIO down again. That is all that I needed to see. Unlike you, Giorno, I don't have a path left here. The longer I stand around looking for trouble is time that I could have spent fixing everything that I broke."

... You know, for a gangster, you're still just a kid. You see the black-and-white on the surface, and never stop to see it with your head rather than your eyes. Listen with your heart, not your ears. Realize that there's more to every scenario beneath what's immediately apparent. That's what true observation is."

"I've been observing everything for awhile now, and I realized that I'm sick of fighting. I'm sick of chasing down serial killers and Stand Users. I'm sick of DIO and hunting down the whereabouts of his son. I just want Jolyne to be happy, and I'm sure as hell not doing that here."

The gulf between the two men sealed in Jotaro's heavy, unbroken gaze. Giorno blinked a few times, lowering his head slightly as his eyes met the floor beneath his shoes. Only for a moment. In an instant, Giorno looking at him again.

"... Then I will be the one to end it. For both of us."

" I wouldn't have decided to go home if I didn't know you were going to stay. That Stand of yours... believe me, it's more powerful than you think it is."

Giorno blinked. It seemed as if Jotaro was trying his hand at motivational speaking, but before he could even realize it, his heavy hand fell upon the younger Joestar's shoulder. The elder lowered his body slightly so that their eye level was matched - where Giorno could make out the fainest color of his relative's azure eyes.

"When the moment seems most dire, you'll come out on top in ways you can't predict until it happens. It may be the winds of fate blowing in our favor, or some cunning nature we inherited from Jonathan, but that is the true Joestar secret technique."

"... But don't be afraid to run away, either."

Giorno didn't know how to respond. For the first time within the last few years, he was left without a cunning remark or daring quote. Simple, unbroken, contemplative silence was all that he had. Jotaro offered him no time to react, as he raised himself back to his full height and stuck out his hand.

"It's been an honor to finally catch you, Haruno Shiobana."

Giorno stared at the hand like it was a pointed gun. In the moment's passing, his stature straightened, his eyes renewed with telltale resolve. He gripped his counterpart's hand with his own. "Likewise, Jotaro Kujo."

JoJo shook hands with JoJo. Giorno watched his older relative turn away, walking out towards the door leading into Knowhere's metallic tunnels. Something within him yearned to try and stop him. He'd never failed to convince someone before, all it would take is more. At the same time, however, it seemed best to let him walk away. If only for Jolyne's sake.

"What if we never meet again?"

Jotaro stopped in the doorway for a moment, turning his head slightly to side-eye the young man.

"Then it must have been for a good reason."

The mechanisms in the door twirled for just a moment before Jotaro Kujo's frame vanished behind an ocean of steel. In that moment, Giorno Giovanna had no allies left.

At the end of the path, he returns to the beginning.

Cullen sighed and retracted the tentacle coming out of his back. As Billy slowly let him go, the sorcerer looked to Triss. "Nice to meet you, Triss. I very much hope that the M.E.U. can be returned to us."

"Indeed. its loss was quite tragic. However, we must carry the banner of hope that they represent, huh?" Triss said, putting her hand on her side. "Let's save the Multiverse, then."

As Clark stood near Azura, the main of steel just shook his head. They lost, and he felt he was less than no help. Starring at the nothingness, Clark paused in and out of thought. Everyone he cared about was gone. People from his earth, like his Mom, Chloe, Lois, and even Lex. Looking around, he noticed Azura and Lucifer, along with Senna and others, a deep formed on his face. He sighed and mumbled to himself.

"So, I guess Lucio and Ries didn't make it?

Another long pause, Clark looked at the group. Normally a becaon of hope, Clark seemed empty.

"I have a son, and I will do what I can to give him some form of peaceful future." Azura frowned. The very thought of her loved ones being erased made her skin crawl, anger settling deep in her gut.

"If we don't do anything, who else will?" She muttered under her breath, tone growing sad.

"There's no telling how long we have to try and do something to save these fractured pieces and make them whole again." She added. It almost sounded like Clark had given up before they'd even tried. His hope was gone, and although she didn't know why it was, it only bolstered her own hope and resolve.

She wouldn't give up, even if the odds were against her and she had to stain her hands in blood, she'd reach out with her heart and her voice until things were right once more, no matter how flawed.

Lucifer paused for a second when Azura mentioned a son. God, he was gone, wasn't he? As much as he didn't like kids, he had at least had his own son start to grow him. Sure, he didn't want to be involved in his life, but it was more that he was terrified to fuck it up. How could he possiby be a father when his own hadn't set much of an example for him. " I think I would do the same for my two kids. I'm not much for them..... but I will admit that I want the same for both my own son and daughter. Huh-funny- I never said that a loud. At the end, before we you know- I conceived two kids, well, fraternal twins. It's weird to think I was a father.... and now that's just gone before I even had a chance to try."

Bu-dum, bu-dum, bu-dum.

The sound of a heartbeat was all Senna could hear at first, the single noise echoing in her ears.

Her own heartbeat.

CgcR9UC.png

The girl pressed her hands into her head, finding that confusion had swept over her like a tidal wave, dragging her down into its depths. She heard the words of everyone around her but wasn't sure she understood completely. Or, maybe, she just wasn't sure what this situation meant to her. It was awful. The whole thing sounded completely awful. And she was... scared.

She always tried to put on a brave front, but things like this scared Senna. She wished Ichigo was here. He made her feel better about things. Or even--Wait, who else did she know? Her head was throbbing so bad that she couldn't think straight. But she didn't tremble. No, she had the strength to hold back her fear.

"Mm, my head hurts," she mumbled to herself, attempting to stand up afterwards. "What comes next?" she asked to any of the group, looking around to familiarize herself with everyone. She hadn't spotted anyone she recognized just yet. But probably would soon. ;)

"Well, I guess a positive outlook may as well be its own special power at this point," Touma murmured mostly to himself as he let Gentaro heal his wounds, giving the other boy a nod of acknowledgement like a verbal thanks. Usually, the spiky haired boy was the most go-getter kind of person around, and while he still had that spirit left in him, it was impossible to deny that this long war had taken at least some toll on his soul. When you go through this sort of thing twice after all, where else does one even go?

Standing next to Gentaro, Touma sighed softly as he looked toward Blake. "Sounds like you've been in this kind of set-up before... roughly speaking," he said drolly, looking over the other young man's features. There was just something about Blake that Touma found familiar, little did he know just what he found so familiar about him was so tantalizingly close.

The flashing lights, bright enough to burn a hole in the eye. The tingling sensation running down his back. The shifting movement beneath his feet, like being picked up from one place and brought to another. It was a sensation all too familiar for him, but it has been a long time since he has allowed himself to be caught off guard.

A sudden flash of golden light emerged out in the void that the chosen found themselves in, signalling the arrival of another 'chosen'. Within just a second, the light took shape into a lithe young man with swirling golden hair and a less-than-pleased expression on his mug. Before anyone could act, the boy was already lunging towards nothing.

"MUDA!"

Giorno shouted in anger, thrusting his hand out in unison with a disembodied golden fist that manifested above his shoulder, slamming its knuckles into the formless ground as it failed to punch anything of substance. A reverberating crack echoed throughout the empty void when Gold Experience shattered the ground beneath Giorno's feet like glass. The boy spared himself a few moments of stunned silence before stumbling back, catching his chest with his other hand. Short, quiet, and rapid breaths were all that sputtered from him for the moment.

I'm... I'm alive?

What just happened!?

He knew it wasn't a trick. An enemy Stand User's ability was not in play. For the briefest moment, Giorno Giovanna was caught in the center of Knowhere's destruction. Steam rose off his shoulders, parts of his uniform blackened by the rapid (if brief) exposure to the scalding heat of the ray. Giorno may have been no stranger to pain and suffering in the pursuit of his ends, but no human would walk out from the center of the sun unbothered and unscathed - both mentally and physically.

Giorno directed his eyes to the shattered earth beneath himself. His Stand's fist took a moment to melt away into a milky golden cloud of light before dissipating entirely, revealing a green sprout growing from between the cracks where his knuckles had been.

A short, stabilizing breath escaped him now. Giorno stood upright, dusting the singed cloth off of his shoulders and turning around. Almost immediately he was likely met with an audience of bewildered looks cast in his direction. That didn't matter, though, what mattered were the looks that he instantly recognized.

"... Touma?"

The spiky-haired boy wasn't difficult to spot in a crowd. Somehow, the young don felt both relieved and concerned to see at least one familiar face in a crowd of strangers. He didn't know if Touma felt the same way about him but he also didn't care. Giorno joined the other boy quickly, rushing over his side and taking a moment to catch his breath. "You were with the ground team moving in on Revan, weren't you?"

"What... what happened?"

Cullen looked ready to attack Lucifer all over again but the boy held off and aimed a pointed look Clark's way. "Ugh, Lucio. What was his problem anyway, huh? Couldn't stand him." Crossing his arms, Cullen thought for a moment. "... Anyway, you might have a point, mate. Boy witch here hasn't actually told us what we're supposed to be doing."

When Cullen looked to him, Billy sighed. "It's not going to be easy. We're going to be grasping at straws."

dSDzXlD.png

"Yeah, I think I realized it wasn't going to be easy. Who is the bloke doing all this then? He got a name?"

"Yes..." Billy took a few steps toward Touma and tried to get his attention. He gave Giorno a measured stare when he mentioned Revan. "That's it. Revan. Both of you should know... back me up on this."

❝ Right... right, gotta know something about my teammates in this. Gentaro... huh? Alright, I think I got that right, my name's Blake Dormi. Nice to meet you! Now uh... ❞ Blake gives him a quick look over. That suit was super interesting. ❝ ... guess I'll get to see what kind of stuff you can do sooner or later... eyuup. ❞

His attention turns to the next person. Well, it was someone that Gentaro healed just moments ago. That's clear enough. Yet, what was that? What was he talking about? Oh right...

❝ Definitely. Uh, same goes for you? Well, I was more of trying to get involved in weird multiverse things but ended up being dragged into a bigger mess than I can digest properly and... ❞ He pauses. Maybe it was just gut feeling, but... ❝ Sooo... I don't think I know you... Erm... ❞

Before Touma could give him any answer, Blake glanced over to check on Senna. Crap, she was stressing out! Sure he should've known that this was going to happen, but maybe the weight of the situation made him forget that for just a moment.

❝ Crap, uh, hold that thought! I'll... be attending to someone real quick! ❞ The ravenette blurted out before rushing over to Senna. When they were thinking about spending more time together after that incident, this wasn't what they had in mind at all. Surviving hell just to be thrown back in, especially in a situation where there wasn't much of a choice otherwise.

So he had to do his part to reassure her that someone she knows is still here.

Without thinking it over or giving a warning beforehand, Blake abruptly caught Senna in a tight hug.

u59hWKX.png

❝ It's okay... I'm here, Senna... we're going to make it through this, and we're not alone either. Okay? ❞ He coaxed her with light whispers. Well, he wasn't sure if he could back that statement of them being okay after this, but it was better than being harsh with the truth. Plus, there was this peaceful quiet before they had to go through another hell most likely, for the sake of the multiverse presumably, so might as well use up this time as much as possible...

Gentaro held his hand out to Giorno, hoping that he’s trustworthy.

Lucifer wasn't about to find any comforting words for Clark. He could figure those out himself. He would however looked at Jianyu. " So those people you killed, what exactly did they do to deserve to die?" He asked, looking over at her.

"Let's see...the three I chose to kill...Killed my twin sister, betrayed and tried to kill me, and was responsible for both those things. In that order." Jianyu shrugged her shoulders. "Everyone else I was basically a puppet of some evil dictator so I don't take responsibility. I was a weapon in that case. Everyone else? Fuck 'em."

Cullen shot Clark a withering look. He hadn't exactly been Cullen's cup of tea either from what he remembered. Especially the part about him being, you know, a killer. Cullen's expression eventually turned to amusement though.

He then turned to look at Jianyu, raising an eyebrow in her direction. "Wow, really?" Cullen began to clap sarcastically. "Congratulations, you're such a tough one. Bet all the blokes fall for you, eh?"

Billy was still mulling over what Lucifer was asking. "If there was a twist, how would I know about it?" he eventually said. "The being who possessed me... he's called the Demiurge. Possession makes me... uncomfortable, okay? But at least I am still myself. He's sort of just inhabiting my body, vaguely leading me... My point is, I don't have all the details. I was out of commission during the Coalition's war with the Revanchist, so whatever allies Revan has, I don't really know about them."
