A long drive home

Focusedheart

Through all, smile. Through the worst, smirk.
(A poem I did in college a few years back.)

A long drive home filled with hate
Every mile growing long and lost
The only good company was a mate

Only time told that it was late
The empty air was a dark quiet host
A long drive home filled with hate

The love was fully sate
The pain of silence hurting the most
The only good company was a mate

The entire thing, all of it, seemed to be fate
It felt like a great cost
A long drive home filled with hate

Slowly the emotions opened the gate
The shadows revealing the ageless ghosts
The only good company was a mate

The cold air was what cleaned the slate
Release and free no longer tied to the post
A long drive home filled with hate
The only good company was a mate.
