"I have never seen anything like it..."
SMACK!
The paper packet that all students had to take if they were late entries. The trials were over... however nobody just walked in for free. And the paper that had just been slapped on the desk, newly graded... a 93.2 grade on the front.
"This is almost impossible! It's been years since the written exam had been passed so easily, so well... and so quickly!"
The room was filled with the makers of the exam, those that modified it and made sure it was the written equivalent to the trials. In the seats of the room was 4 men: Typho mahogany, the grammar and proofreader for the test, Rachel Carson, the weapons specialist for the test, Mathew Lemons, the stealth expert, and James Mattis, the open combat expert. One empty seat sat in the room, a nameplate labeled "Stone: mage & magic expert." And in the middle of the room was the man that had protected Eren, the man who defended him in court.
"He completed this test in half the time given to the average student, and only a few mistakes made!" Said Mattis.
"Well, which ones did he miss?" Asked Lemons.
"That's the concerning thing for me. The only completely wrong question asked what to do if you came face to face with a confederate soldier. The correct answer was to get help and not to engage... he said that he would engage immediately. I'm wondering if there is a real reason that he had left the Confederacy. Someone from there would never have said something like this unless they truly wanted to kill or hurt the Confederacy." Explained Carson.
"Indeed. And the answer he gave on the written essay... it was so graphic. It was enough to make even me sick to the stomach." Mattis shook his head as he leaned back. "It's like he knew exactly what the emperor looks like..." He looked at the man. "With a grade like this, we have no choice but to allow him to enter, but I will make sure he's watched... he has hate in his heart worse than I've ever seen in a student... We can't let him have the opportunity to hurt a student like this. This school teaches combat, but this is next level... this is torture." The others agreed. "That's one reason why points were taken away. We cannot condone the actions on that essay, no matter who it is." Said Lemons.
"We should also talk to him often... the only way to calm his hate is to make him feel welcome somewhere else. Otherwise, the hate he carries for the confederacy could easily rub off and turn towards the students here." Carson said as she looked at the test. "But nonetheless... he is officially accepted. We need someone to show him to his dorm." They nodded and Mattis stood. "I will. I want to meet the boy for myself, see what the confederacy is holding these days." He walked towards the door, the lawyer walking behind him as they exited the room.
Eren sat quietly in the black cushioned chair, a dull butterfly knife in his hand. He grabbed the latch and quickly threw it open, before turning it and closing it again. It became a pattern for him, back and forth, back and forth. Slowly, his mind began to wander.
"Kill them all... that is what you will do." A voice called to eren. His whole body went cold, chills rushing through his whole body. his hands felt wet... a thick crimson liquid covering them. His feet were heavy, clunky boots clinging to them. Something pulled at his back, the metal adding more cold to his already freezing body. The room around him seemed to disappear. Darkness encroached all around him, and the warm office he had been sitting in before became a memory. Now, as he fell to his knees, the snow crunching under his weight, and the trees all around him quickly rising. He could see the void, all around him, past the treeline... where was he?
"Don't you remember, Eren?" He looked around, standing. He grabbed the metal behind him and turned it around, putting the wooden back on his shoulder, holding the bottom as he looked through the iron circle on top, his finger moving until it was comfortably on the trigger...
"Put the gun down, Eren... you know you wouldn't use it if you could."
He slowly lowered the rifle as he looked forward. The man... his medals on his shoulder and chest gleaming as they hung on his trench coat. His black gloves held out in an embrace. "Come, Eren... we have work to do." He stared at the man for a minute, his body shaking. However, he quickly brought his rifle back up and aimed, his head engulfing the circle. "Leave me alone! I hate you!" The man before him only chuckled. "I suppose in time, we will continue. But for now, I shall grant your request."
He walked backwards, slowly fading away.
Eren lowered the gun, and looked down. He breathed heavily, before a different voice called to him.
"Eren, are you alright? Eren?"
In a second, he jolted awake. He had almost slept with his eyes open in the chair. He looked around for a moment, seeing the office around him once again, and the lawyer standing in front of him, a man beside him. "Y-yes?" He spoke low, his voice soft but deep.
"This is mister Mattis. He will be showing you around the campus, and to your dorm room." the man said as he gestured to the general. He kneeled in front of Eren. "This is your new life, Eren. Make the most of it." Eren nodded as the man stood, walking out of the room. "I'll be back once in a while to check on you. Until then, goodbye." He waved and Eren waved back uncomfortably before standing, watching the man leave.
"Well, Eren, My name is James mattis. Nice to meet you." He put his hand out, smiling. Eren gave a bit of a nervous smile. "H-Hello." He shook the man's hand and they soon left, Mattis walking him around the school, giving him a bit of a tour.
As they reached the dorm room, Mattis turned to Eren. "Well, these are the dorms. This one is the one you are staying in, you are to be in number 36A. Understand?" Eren nodded. "Y-Yeah. Thirty six, A." Mattis nodded. "Glad you learned at least some English before you got here. Good to have you aboard." He smiled and patted him on the shoulder before walking away, Eren looking at the large building. "Thirty six A..." He walked inside and looked around aimlessly before trying the key at his room, opening it and looking around the room.
It was small, but for Eren, it was like heaven. He sat down on the bed and looked out the window. Night classes were just starting. He looked at his weekly schedule, and looked to the day. "Tuesday..." He looked for it on the calender, and nodded, seeing as he had no night classes that day. One of only 3 out of the week that he didn't. So, he lied down and closed his eyes. The cushioned slab he was on, it was the most relaxing he had felt in a while... but his body was still tense. That was expected, but he still couldn't shake the feeling of being... watched... But as he slowly dosed off... the visions flashed in front of him.
He shot up, looking around as he panted. The dark room was empty, he knew, but the sights... the blood, the forest... and that man. It kept replaying in his head whenever he would calm down and relax... it tormented him. So, as he sat on the bed, the cycle of his dozing and the visions driving him awake continued for hours...
