So, the whole plot of this is that the spirit Race, the Talohm, are trying to save their gatekeeper, the Alauum. They send their heroes forth who are the only only ones strong enough to act when the Alauum is gone. These heroes bind with the souls of our here's giving them new mana based powers. Thus, mage spirit.
