The Xupra had run for their lives. It was a case of get on a ship and go. The virus was spreading fast and they had to get out before they caught it or they'd die. Within a week eighty percent of the population was gone, the other 20% were trying to get out before it was too late. It had caused mass panic and hysteria. There weren't enough ships for a mass evacuation. No one had been prepared for a deadly virus because of their perfect genetics and because they'd wiped out all illness, sickness and disease. By doing that they had doomed themselves from the start.

The ship they were on was enough to carry a fleet of soldiers should it need to. Now it was carrying men, women, children, food and medical supplies. They were fighting to live. They needed a new planet to live on. A new home. And they had one in sight.

Xo and his co pilot Binx'o were now fighting for control. It had taken over a week to find another planet and they were out of fuel and cruising straight into this planet's atmosphere, threatening to kill the 100+ passengers that were crowded inside. It was way overloaded but they'd tried to save as many as they could.

"Prepare for landing!" Bo shouted.

Within minutes the ship had crashed into the field, breaking up into several parts and men, women and children littering the field that held various and rather scared wildlife that had run out of the way before creeping back, curious. It was quite the scene. An alien craft crashing into a field. Dead and living aliens scattering this new land.

It was a matter of minutes only before people began to gather at the field's edge from the nearby town of Jincai. The Xupra ship had driven deep furrows through the wheat fields, scattering crops and soil haphazardly among the fragments of the massive vessel.

Hushed murmurs and conversation passed between the gathered onlookers as they debated and argued over what to do. Their clothes quickly betrayed their simple lifestyle, and most wore the drab dress of farmers and craftsman, but it is oft the poor that have the strongest sense of compassion and it wasn't long before several of them joined the Xupra in the fields and a couple turned into a trickle until finally most of the farmers had joined the growing numbers of helping hands.

Though language proved an immediate barrier, the gesture of aid was a concept universal to all cultures and soon wounded Xupra were being transported to Jincai. Those that could not yet be moved due to injuries were being tended to in the fields by the locals, and shanty tents were being erected to shield them from the noon-day sun overhead.

____

Relief efforts were well underway by the time Kamil and those of the royal guard arrived on scene, and he was met by one of the village militiamen who quickly briefed him on the situation - and the lack of communication they were suffering with the foreigners. The Xupra tongue had been identified as a dialect of the common tongue spoken in many parts of Terra - but a poor village such as Jincai weren't well educated in foreign tongues.

Kamil thanked the man as he approached the wreckage with several of his guard in tow - Tahir among them - and though the avorians were armed, none seemed hostile.

When Bo came around everything started to spin. His eyes managed to focus on the blue sky around him and suddenly his ears picked up on the screams and cries in the field around him. As the captain of the ship he immediately got himself up, wincing in pain. Checking himself over, it didn't seem that much was wrong, though he couldn't see the blood on his head from going through the ships windshield on impact. small cuts covered his face from the glass. His neck hurt and so did his chest. But looking around there was more important things to do.

It was at that moment that he saw Binx'o, his co-pilot lying trapped under a big piece of the ship. "Binx'o!" Bo ran over immediately and tapped the man's head lightly, before checking his pulse. It was there. "Binx'o. Wake up." He spoke in his native tongue Xi. The man showed no signs of movement.

Immediately Bo stood again and looked at the surroundings. "People of Etrippe and Iiines." Again he spoke in Xi to the people that were walking around in shock. "Those of you that are able to walk and have little injury, this time we need your help. I need anyone that is able to help the wounded to help them. Anyone that is dead, I want you to move to the right, anyone that is injured, but can move, I want you to move to the left. Anyone that is severely injured, leave in the middle. Anyone that knows medical knowledge focus on those most hurt."

With orders given, and what looked like locals already helping, Bo went about setting up a system of some sort to show those that would live and those that would die, out of the severely injured. If there was a piece of metal by their right ear, that Bo had placed, they would die. Some of the Xupra had lost limbs and were bleeding to death, others had been impaled by parts of the ship. Those were the unlucky ones. The lucky ones were the ones that died on impact.

He didn't put some metal near Binx'o's ear though. Despite the Xupra being pinned by some of the ship, Bo refused to believe that his co-pilot couldn't be saved. As more resources came to help, Bo was glad. They needed the help. Over 100 people had being in that ship. And it looked like over half had been killed already. Some Xupra had resorted to English to try and communicate between the people helping them from the land that they'd crashed on, but even English didn't seem to be helping them.

Someone of importance seemed to be approaching, Bo figured simply by the clothing difference. Maybe he had some status. He moved over to the man, hoping that English wouldn't be a barrier between them. The Xupra, though living in isolation, had found out through technology that of the vast worlds out there, English was a popular language.

"Can you speak English? We need help. We need doctors immediately." He told the male once he'd gotten to him. "I am the captain of my ship, Bo Alla. We have crashed on your planet and need doctors. Please."

Kamil's grasp of the common tongue was limited at best, but he grasped enough of Bo's words to get the intent behind them. He spoke quietly with Tahir for a few moments before gesturing for some of the avorians to join in the aid of the wounded.

"Send word to the nearby garrison to send medical aid," Kamil told another while Tahir moved to speak with Bo.

"Medical aid is being sent for," he explained to Bo. "He wishes to know who you are, and where you're from. Also he asks how you came to be here."

____

Bo looked at the other man, glad that they could at least communicate better. He frowned a little at the questions though. They needed to go and help people, not stand here talking about where they were from.

"I am Bo Alla of the planet Etrippe and Iiines. You will not know of the planets or us as we've never left and no one has ever come to us. We are Xupra. We are here because we had an emergency evacuation from our planet. Before, we were immune to all sickness, illness and disease because or government found a way to perfect our genes. A disease has broken out though and within a week 80% of our planet was dead. We had to evacuate straight away. We didn't have time to check our ships over. We traveled for so long that our ship ran out of fuel before we found a place to land. Then we drifted this way, entered your atmosphere and crashed."

"Where have we landed?"

Bo glanced back at the carnage. More people weren't moving than those that were. And the body pile seemed to be counting up high. Men women and even children were helping people despite been injured themselves.

"Medical aid will be much appreciated."

____

"There's a garrison not far from here. They will be here soon," Tahir assured the man. "And you have landed on the planet of Valore," he explained. "In Volaria to be specific. This illness. Is it still with you?"

It was difficult to tell among the survivors, as illness could easily be masked under the wounds. Tahir didn't know a great deal when it came to matters of medical knowledge, but he did know that it was unusual for diseases to inflict multiple species. Still it would be best to mention it to Kamil.

____

"We're the survivors. We have been traveling for a while now. If any of us had the disease, we would all be dead now. We do not have it with us." He told Tahir. "And it affects us because we are immune to everything else. This is a new disease and it wipes out our systems. We are complicated beings. But enough. We need to help those that can survive. I need help getting my co-pilot out from under the side of our ship."

With that said, Bo immediately turned around and started walking to where his co-pilot lay, unconscious still.

____

As Bo knelt beside Binx'o, he was joined by another of the Volarian guard by the name of Ambar. He was young yet, and had not seen this level of carnage before, but he was taking it with a remarkable level of stoicism. He grimaced though as he knelt beside Bo to inspect the ship part that was pinning the man, and it was plain to see that the weight of the hull piece had thoroughly crushed Binx'o's legs.

"It's too heavy. Tahir might be able to lift it though," Ambar remarked grimly.

Even if they got the man untrapped, it seemed unlikely that he would ever walk again - if he would survive at all.

While they were tending to the matter of the co-pilot, more relief was arriving in vehicles with supplies and medical personnel.

"Tahir?" Ambar called out before looking over to Bo. "Get ready to pull him out when Tahir lifts it."

Bo knew enough to know that moving the ship could risk him bleeding to death. Especially when the hull was crushing the man's legs. It was dangerous and Bo didn't want to take any chances.

"Wait." He spoke in English again. "What about him bleeding to death once we pull the hull off him?" He glanced down at his friend before trying to figure something out. They needed to get to his legs as fast as possible and stop any kind of serious bleed by putting pressure on it.

"I want your people by each leg. We need something to put pressure on the bleeds. Binx'o cannot die. He will not be dying today." The Xupra spoke out.

____

Kamil was otherwise distracted helping with other aspects of the relief efforts and was unable to personally monitor and direct each individual. He was currently engaged in conversation with some of the medics that had arrived at the crash-site and a few of the villagers as plans were being made as to arrangements for the wounded. This largely left Bo, Ambar, and Tahir to the matter of Binx'o.

Tahir looked over the hull piece and then to Binx'o. It was easy enough for him to sort out what Ambar wanted of him, but one look at Binx'o left one to wonder though if the effort were in vane.

Ambar knelt down on the other side of Binx'o as he got ready to help pull the man free of the wreckage. He gave a nod to Tahir that he was ready, and a moment passed before Tahir's eyes lit up with a golden hue. Along his skin golden tattoos were appearing and with the groan of metal twisting beneath its weight, the hull began to slowly lift.

Once it was raised up, Ambar wasted little time in dragging Binx'o free of the wreckage with Bo, and once everyone was out of the way Tahir let the piece of wreckage fall back to the ground with the screech of metal that drew a few looks from others at the crash site.

Unfortunately there wasn't much to save of Binx'o's legs. The hull piece had thoroughly crushed both of them, and the damage was extensive enough that there was real way to bandage the wounds. Medics were moving in though to do what they could for the man - which for the moment mostly consisted of applying tourniquets to his upper legs while they got him moved to a stretcher to transport to the temporary medical facilities being erected in the small town. Amputation was likely the only option at this point to save the man's life.

Meanwhile elsewhere in town a trio of new arrivals had reached their destination.

"Well, here we are," Adriaan informed his two companions. "I need to go see to a few things. Enda, why don't you have a look around, see what we can do to help out with the refugees and I'll catch up with you later."

"And good luck to you," he told Jack in parting before he took to the air and left Enda and Jack to find their way about the town.

Unlike Volary, Jincai was a refreshing scenery for those unaccustomed to the noise and crowds. It appeared to be a small agricultural town with large expanses of fields for as far as the eye can see, and a small community of the sort where everyone seemed to know each other at least casually or by reputation.

The town lacked some of the finer comforts of Volary, but it was well enough off that it possessed the basic comforts of running water and electricity. The place was humble, but not strictly poor.

____

Jack watched Adriaan depart with a measured bit of amazement. He had already seen of few of the locals doing something of the same, but he was certainly not anywhere near used to it. By the time he thought to give him a friendly thankful wave, he was already too far away.

Lowering his half-raised hand, he gripped either side of his leather jacket and gave it a sharp jerk forward, resettling it. It was unnecessary, but old habits die hard. It was one of the subtle ways that he normally checked the position and weight of his weapons. Which, of course, he no longer had with him. So the gesture did nothing more than remind him of the fact.

With a sigh, he looked about the local populace (thankfully far, far less crowded). He did make it a point to tap a passerby on the arm and ask about offering help with the sunken vessel. Unfortunately, he couldn't understand anything the man said in reply.

He made several more attempts, approaching a different individual each time. And each time, either they did not speak Terran, or they pretended not to because they did not trust the look of him. He wasn't sure which.

Finally, he was able to find someone who spoke a smattering of Terran. Sadly, the young lady's Terran was heavily accented and very broken. It quickly became apparent that any informatio gleaned from her would be an questionable at best.

With a nod and a simple "Thank you," he let the woman go on her way. Which, of course, left him standing in the middle of a street with no clue where to go . . .

____

By the time Jack tapped Bo on the shoulder, the black male was trying to treat a cut on a wailing child's arm. He turned, glancing at the man before grabbing the child less than gently and thrusting her at the male. He simply said one command.

"Hold."

He continued to thrust the wailing girl at the new person that hopefully was here to help. Bo was under pressure. He'd lost over half of the people they had had on board the ship. The survival of their race had depended on a big enough bunch getting away. Now most of them and their vital supplies were ruined.

Suddenly he stopped a passing Xupra, speaking in Xi to the male before letting him disappear, heading back out towards the wreckage of his ship.

"Now hold." He repeated to the man, his accent heavy and definitely not Terran. But then again his race was nothing that had been seen before. Black men with white lines covering their bodies and white women with black lines covering their bodies. There was nothing like it. But what was on that ship was vital for the survival and he hoped that there was enough to ensure their survival.

Jack took the child in his arms somewhat awkwardly. His previous line of work hadn't exactly prepared him for interacting with children. But as he held the crying girl, there was something about her that struck a chord in him. Perhaps he was simply over-tired from his trip. But as he looked at the child, then at all the injured and dead, his heart began to hurt. And then he was holding the girl close, gently speaking into her ear above the noise, not even sure if she understood his language.

"It's alright, kiddo. You're alright now. You're safe."

Amazingly, the child's wailing slowly quieted into soft sobbing and she clutched at his shirt and buried her face against his chest.

____

When Jack spoke to the child, Bo repeated the man's words in Xi. The little girl managed to calm down and relax enough to get her injured arm treated.

"They don't learn English until they are ten in our world." He told Jack. "My name is Bo Alla. These are the survivors of my species, the Xupra."

He started to wrap up the girl's arm. Luckily the cut wasn't too deep or serious and after cleaning it with disinfectant he could bandage the wound up and move onto the next person. The child, once finished, seemed to just curl up against Jack, not wanting to leave his arms. Maybe it was the comfort or maybe it was because of the trauma.

"Are you from this land?" Bo Alla asked.

____

"Me?" Jack asked, though it was evident the man was speaking to him. "Uh, no, not really. I only arrived in port today. I was hoping to find some work in a quiet village, but someone told me about the shipwreck, and I felt I should try to help out."

Of course, he was leaving quite a bit out, but he felt the man didn't need all of the sordid details. Even if he did need to, Jack wasn't quite ready to trust anyone with the whole truth about his presence on this planet.

"Should I hold her for a while longer, or do you need help with anything?"

Honestly, he half-hoped the man would say to just hold her. She was almost as much a comfort to him as he to her.

____

Bo didn't care for details, not when he was trying to help his own. He glanced up at the girl that had seemed to settle in the man's arms. While normally he would have told her to stop crying and get to helping people, she did seem content and maybe it was good to have a moments compassion.

"Keep her for now. Both her parents died in the crash. I think she needs some comfort."

Bo moved onto helping the next person, though he kept talking to Jack so that the man knew to follow him around still. "Her name is Xar. She's five." He told the man, knowing that the little girl still wouldn't understand him. "She can rest on you for a few minutes but then she can go to work. We need all the hands we can get and the women are the ones trained to look after us in our world. She will be better learning to help now while young, even injured."

Yes, it was definitely a moments compassion that he'd had, but he needed to get the ranks back here as soon as possible. Women and men were not equal in his world and it would only be for this, that they helped each other. As soon as possible, he'd be getting everything back to normal and giving the orders once more to his people. He was the captain of his ship, so he was the new commander of the survivors.

And it also helped keep his mind of Binx'o's condition and the fact that the man would probably not be walking again here. In their world, they would have had the technology to fix him. Here they did not.

____

As the child calmed, her tears lessened and slowly dried. Knowing that there was much work to be done (and knowing that the girl likely wouldn't understand a word he said), Jack accompanied his words this actions, hoping she would be able to make the connection.

"Hey, kiddo, do you think you could help me out?" He tucked a knuckle under her chin and lifted her face so he could look her in the eye. "I need to see abound tending to some of these people's injuries." He gestured toward some of the injured, then towards the girl's own bandages. "We need to help them get better, alright?"

Easing the girl's feet to the ground, he took her by the hand and calmly lead her toward an old man whose arm was badly cut. With the skills he'd learned in the past, he knew well enough how to tend to such things fairly well. While there wasn't much in the way of proper medical supplies, Jack was able to do a basic cleaning of the wound, though he'd had to convince the child it was okay to let go of his hand, since he needed it. Instead, she gripped his belt-loop tightly as she watched him work.

Once the wound was clean, Jack set to getting a decent bandage wrapped around it, pulling it tight to keep the wound closed. Likely it would need stitches later, but this would have to do for now. After he'd wrapped the arm, he showed the girl how to tie it off so that it wouldn't come loose by accident, all the while giving her reassuring smiles.

On the next "patient", he encouraged her (through gestures) to help out, guiding her tiny hands whenever needed. Bit by bit, she began to get the hang of it.

"Very good, kiddo. Very, very good!" He accompanied the verbal praise with a ruffling of her hair. In response, she gave him a tight hug around the waist and smiled back, if a bit shyly.

They had managed to keep Binx'o alive as they got him into the makeshift medical tents that had been erected in Jincai so that they could help the wounded. Bo was in charge and seemed to be right mind frame to give whatever orders he wanted to give to the survivors and even to try with the people helping them. And why they were sorting out Binx'o, Bo was trying to keep himself busy and not interrupt things.

Ten more people had died that had been transported to Jincai. In total the death count was up into the seventies now. The people of Jincai had been set to lining the bodies they could find in the field. He was hoping that all of the survivors could identify them so that each could be given a proper burial.

The most sever injury was Binx's, but a couple of others had pretty bad injuries. A lot of people had broken bones, gashes, bruises and a mixture of injuries, but nothing like Binx'o's crushed legs. And the Xupra, with there amazing genetics and health had never had to experience the amputation of a limb for that reason - they'd never had to take a limb away because of accidents either. Normally with time and their planet's technology, even the worst injuries could be healed.

But for now it was a waiting game on Binx'o health. And Bo hadn't even thought of amputation despite the state of the man's legs when they'd brought him in. He just hoped that they could help their race despite their different body make-up and chemistry to others here. With that in mind he went to help the less hurt Xupra.

Three days ago

Binx'o was still out cold from the surgeries to amputate his legs. It was probably a good thing, too. The place was chaotic, or at least had been. Maybe Xupra had died. Over one hundred had been squashed into a ship meant for 60 people. Now around 40 people had survived, the rest had been lay to rest in the Jincai fields.

Now that the mourning had begun with the species that had managed to survive, Bo couldn't do such a thing. He had to think about contingencies. They had no immune system without their android counterpart currently inside the ones that had seen their planet and species destroyed by the sudden outbreak of disease. Any bug here could threaten and kill them if it could be caught. To survive birth, they had to be injected with a special solution that created their immune system. They had barely a dozen left. They needed to learn how to survive.

It was while he was walking around, making his daily checks, that somewhere he thought he heard a coughing noise. Ears alert he looked around but saw nothing. Maybe he was just paranoid.

Current Day

Binx'o finally started coming around only to hear panicked screaming. He heard people shouting in Xi as his hand moved up to his head trying to stop the disorientation and sickness he felt. He had no idea what was going on but whatever it was wasn't good. People were talking about the sickness! People were screaming about been caged in. What was going on?

It took him a while to realise that he wasn't on Iilnes or Etrippe. They were somewhere else. His memory started to return and he tried to move but couldn't. His legs didn't want to move.

"Bo Alla! Bo Alla!" He tried not to panic himself but it wasn't possible. With all the panic around him and waking up to the unknown it was hard to know what was happening and even the hardest man couldn't not become scared in the situation. Something was seriously wrong here. Even though they'd made it to a new place, obviously, something must have gone very, very wrong. Or maybe the planet they'd landed on wasn't safe at all.

"Bo Alla!" He shouted again before managing to stop a passing Xupra. Talking in Xi, "What's happening? What's going on?" He asked the panicked woman.

"The disease! The disease! It followed us here!" With that, she ran off to find her family that had managed to survive.

In an un-observed area behind one of the buildings, a sudden light, bright yet soft, grew from out of nowhere. In but an instant, the light began to subside, leaving in its wake a man, human by his appearance, though quite tall, and of a lanky build. The well-worn clothes in which he was garbed consisted of blue jeans, a once-white button-up shirt, and a large brown coat that hung down past his knees. Across his back was a battered scabbard in which was sheathed an equally battered sword.

As the last of the strange light faded, he sank down to one knee with a heavy sigh, as though the mere act of appearing was taxing on his form. After several breathes, he looked skyward and spoke, though there was no one else nearby.

"Father," he said, "I have arrived. Tell Thy servant Thy wish, and I will see it done." He waited for quite some time, then nodded, as though he was listening to a voice that none save he could hear. "Yes, Father. It shall be as Thou command."

Rising to his full height, he slipped from his back the still-scabbarded weapon and held it up in both hands. "As Thou sayest, Father. Those of this land care not for outlanders to bear arms. Take from me the blade which Thou hast entrusted to my keeping, and I will humbly accept it back when Thy work here is done."

And with his words, another light, this one far more faint, grew around the weapon, only to dissolve, taking with it the sword in question.

Without further hesitation, the man walked away from the building and into view of those who dwelt in the village. There were not many out and about, as there was a great sickness rampaging among the populace. This was, of course, part of his reason for being here. Approaching there nearest person, a weary-looking male of the Xupra, he spoke. And though he did not speak the man's language, his words were still understood, for he sent his meaning not to the man's ears, but to his thoughts.

"Sir, I have come to aid the children. It is my calling. Could thou tell me the way?"

"We need to calm these people down!" Kamil shouted over the panicked Xupra. "Tahir, I want this entire area corralled off from the rest of the town. Those showing symptoms are to be put in the hospital, everyone else who has been exposed I want separated from the rest of the town. Make use of these homes to put them up if need be. Get on it. Bandar, send word back to the Matriarch requesting more men out here. We need to roundup the Xupra that have gotten out of town. Is anyone besides the Xupra showing symptoms of the illness yet?"

"Doesn't appear so. It's just them," Bandar answered.

"Good. If we're fortunate it's not contagious outside of their species." His voice was grim though.

Meanwhile Tahir was already moving off to try and calm a panicked woman who was shouting that the disease had followed them, that they needed to run. He tried to gently - but firmly - grab her arm as he pointed her towards the area being corralled off for the still healthy Xupra.

"We need to get you people away from the sick, and separated until we know who are sick and who aren't," he explained to her.

With the Volarians largely unable to speak the common tongue, Tahir was one of the few who could communicate effectively with the Xupra. It was leaving a lot of panicked people being herded and in some cases forcefully relocated with no one to explain to them what was going on.

The villagers were taking it with a bit more calm. There was concern and worry etched into their faces, but they didn't share in the panic of the Xupra. In fact, as a man approached a villager to inquire into aiding the children he was helpfully directed to the temporary hospital.

His arrival was interrupted by Kamil though, as the Avorian captain caught site of the stranger heading towards the building being corralled off for the sick. Kamil mistook him for a local villager and his words came in the Volarian tongue.

"We have a disease outbreak in there. We need to limit the exposure to anymore people. Are you with the volunteers?" he asked.

He could likely find the man other ways to help, while they tried to limit contact with the sick.

The Captain that Binx'o had been calling for, never showed his face. For Bo Alla was too busy trying to sort out the mess that was going on further away from his co-pilot. The chaos and panic was causing more trouble than anyone had probably planned and in a way (it was probably for the best) that many of the Xupra had died in the crash otherwise there probably would have been a stampede by now. But as there was, the panic at least was contained for now. But the lack of communication was what was causing a lot of the panic, along with the fact that the Xupra knew the truth of how deadly the disease was for them. No one wanted to come into contact with one of the diseased.

And the panicked woman right now, didn't want to go with the man that was trying to herd her somewhere. She wanted her children and she wanted to leave before the disease reached them.

"No! No! My family! My family!" She called out in Xi first and then in the common tongue to try and get the man to understand her as she struggled to get herself out of his grip.

Binx'o, upon seeing all of this frowned and tried to get himself up but couldn't. He had given up trying to call for Bo. Maybe the man had died in the crash. Instead he decided it was time he took charge. "Hey! You! Let her go and help me up. I can't move for some reason. I need help getting up." Bino'x could speak the common tongue well, at least.

"Binx'o! The disease is here! It's here! Get everyone out of here! We need another ship!" The woman cried out in Xi to a man she obviously knew more than just another member of her species.

as written by Tiko

Tahir was unable to stem the woman's struggles, or her panic and in the end he was forced to relinquish her to a pair of men who took hold of her arms to draw her away towards the as of yet, still healthy Xupra.

He caught his brother, Bandar, by the arm as the younger avorian was moving past.

"Find someone who can speak their tongue, and try to find that woman's family," he told Bandar. "And get them split into small groups and have them limit exposure with each other until we can separate the sick from the healthy."

"Uh... sure thing. Also by our estimates, it looks like at least six of them got out of town on us. Avantia's sending more men to help search the countryside and round them up."

Tahir nodded briefly before moving on. He didn't pay any notice the Binxo's shouts as he moved on to continue corralling the Xupra.

"You need to stay where you are," a nurse spoke up as she joined Binx'o. She was a young human woman, a local from the village who had volunteered to help with the refugees. "We'll get someone over to move you as soon as they can to limit any further exposure, but for now, just try to stay calm. You just got out of a major surgery, you need to rest."

Having been helpfully directed towards what would be a temporary hospital, Enoch thanked the Xupra and began move off in that direction. However, he was almost immediately interrupted by another individual, whose speech was of a strange tongue. And so, Enoch used the same method as he had but a moment ago, pressing into the mind of the other to discern the thoughts. And the man's thoughts were an explanation of the situation (of which Enoch was already well aware), followed by in inquiry as to his purpose here.

"I was sent here by the Father," he responded to the man in Caelestic, though he knew the man couldn't possibly know the tongue. He accompanied the words with thoughts of their meaning, allowing the man to comprehend him. "I am here to lend aid unto the children. Thou needst not concern thyself for my duties or my welfare, sir. I cannot succumb to the plagues of the mortals. It is, in part, why I was sent."

He glanced over toward the building that the Xupra indicated for him.

"If thou wouldst allow me, I would see to the aid of those in need."

He then waited patiently for the man's decision.

The health of the Xupra had rapidly declined, and nearly a third of them were showing symptoms of the mysterious illness. The healthy had been separated from the ill, but more were coming down sick each day. Some of the wounded had already succumbed to the illness, and their bodies had been removed and were being held for the arrival of the SD.

Avantia had sent what assistance she could to Jincai, but after a human had begun to display symptoms, the village had been quarantined. The temporary infirmary was filled with the sounds of hacking coughs and moans of the feverish as those who braved the illness sought to offer comfort as best they were able.

Medical supplies had been sent, but Volaria lacked the medical research or experience in nanites to do more than buy the Xupra time, and to try and ease their suffering. IV's had been hooked up to keep the sick hydrated, but they remained unresponsive to all treatment efforts. And to worsen the situation, four of the Xupra who had fled the village were still unaccounted for, and the Xupra who had not yet fallen ill begged and pleaded to be allowed to flee the village.

A Xupra woman wept on the street as she confronted Ambar.

"You're killing us! You're killing all of us! You can't keep us here like this, it's wrong. Please, you have to let us get away from here."

He grimaced. He couldn't understand a word she was saying, but he could see the fear and grief in her. They couldn't afford the disease spreading through the countryside though. The avorians didn't seem susceptible to the disease, but if it got into the human populations... it had the potential to spread like wildfire.

"I'm sorry," he told her in Volarian, in the hopes that she might pick up on the sincerity behind the alien words.

In a few short days everything had become disastrous. Choas had ensued and if the Xupra had been in more population and healthier, they probably would have been rioting. It was terrible. Bo Alla was trying to calm down a family. He could feel the beginnings of the disease in himself but was refusing to succumb to the disease in order to help his people. He was not going to let it get him and leave his people to suffer. He frowned, a mother holding the body of her dead baby as she lay dying herself.

He hadn't seen Binx'o as of yet. He knew that his friend couldn't move. He had no idea if his friend had woken or not. If he was dead or alive. But he couldn't think about that. He didn't know that Binx'o was still in with the sick, but wasn't showing any symptoms. He moved forward, looking at a sick child and taking in the supplies that she being given. It wasn't going to work!

Bo Alla moved over to the woman that shouting at someone from the land they'd appeared on. He frowned at the man, choosing to speak in English. "We need help! This isn't helping. Can't you see they're dying!" He shouted angrily.

Meanwhile, Binx'o was struggling to understand what was going on over the days. He was in too much pain to move, but he could still hear. With all the chaos, he had been told about his crushed legs having to be amputated, and now all he could hear was screaming and shouting. He didn't have the strength to move. And it still hadn't properly sank in that he'd had his legs removed. He wanted his Captain who he hadn't seen since waking.

"Help!" He shouted in both English and Xi. "Bo Alla!" He screamed once more.

About an hour after landing, the two Ox skimmers raced forward with scarce a whisper over the ground, wheeling sideways as they decelerated as they approached the field hospital. The medical teams onboard prepped to to immediately pile out, half their number equipped with satchels filled with immediate relief medicines, pain relievers, auto-format nanites awaiting symptom keys. It wasn't an immediate cure, but an effective treatment to rush relief of the worst symptoms. The other half prepared to offload their equipment to the field hospital.

Gliding to a halt, before the hover drives even settled the craft down on their landing bases, the relief unit was rushing out the doors, the white armor emblazoned with red crosses marking the medical corps for what they were. They made their way into the field hospital with haste, their economical movements demonstrating military grade training.

The unloading team began to draw material from the skimmers quickly, moving crates one after another, the more integrated equipment within the hospital itself, the general source materials stacked neatly without. Working with hand signals, the teams identified the most needing of the sick and focused their treatments to that portion of the Xupra.

Two men not involved in either effort approached the Volarians, their face behind their faceplates passive as their men hurried to their tasks. Drawing their foreign salutes, the shorter of the two spoke. "Medical Master Sergeant Imu Talda, and this is M. Corporal Alden Rim. Anything you can tell us would help while we get the diagnostic and intensive equipment set up."

The corporal nodded. "Unfortunately, the two full auto-docs we have are back at the spaceport. No time to dismantle and get heavy lift equipment ready for transport, but we've got four semi-docs. They're a lot more limited, but that's the best we've got. We'd like to save those for the worst of the salvageable cases, but we need one of the sick that's not critical for the initial formatting. Preferably someone of their authority that we can speak with, who can help settle their people down."

As the men spoke, from the field hospital came an unusual sound, one of unknown instruments playing a mellow, melodic song.

Ambar ran a hand through his hair as a second man joined the woman.

"There's nothing I can do," he tried again. But the language barrier was proving quite the hurdle with aiding the Xupra.

He gave a sigh as a pair of the woman's fellow Xupra took note of her hysterics and approached to lead her away, leaving him with just the angry male.

As Ambar moved to direct Bo to go with the others, something caught his eye. There on the ground under a small dogwood tree was a dead bird. He approached and knelt down, pulling a pen from his pocket which he used to roll the dead animal over. There was no sign of injury to it, and mucus had clogged up its nostrils.

"Well shit," he muttered.

He let the pen on the ground next to the bird as he stood up and wiped his hands off on his shirt.

Elsewhere, a pair of of men were speaking with Kamil who was having a hard time following their words.

"Go find Tahir," he told the Volarian with him, before making an effort at communicating with the sergeant.

"Slow," he told them as he pointed with a finger to his lips.

His grasp of the common tongue was broken, and not near fluent enough to follow at a conversational pace and it took him a few struggling moments to formulate a few coherent words.

"Bo," he explained.

He gestured for them to follow as he led them off to locate Bo. A brief awkward exchange with a pair of Xupra escorting a weeping woman managed to get them pointed in the right direction - towards Ambar who was examining something on the ground, with Bo standing nearby.

Bo caught sight of what Ambar was suddenly interested in. An animal - a dead bird. He frowned as he too got in close to look at the creature. He new immediately what had caused it's death and moved back. The frown on his face spoke of realisation as he wondered if he'd brought the disease that had killed their planet here. Had he doomed another planet to death?

"Dead. The disease." Bo spoke, looking up from Ambar to see more people arriving.

He hoped the new men were translators. They really needed that right now. He was so frustrated because it was hard to understand what was going on. And he wanted the people that were well out of here.

"Tell them to let us go. The healthy ones. This disease will kill us all. We need to leave, now!" He told them, though it took some time to form the English. It was broken up with a lot of pauses. "Let the healthy go. You can't save the sick. It's impossible."
