~Practice~

The rain was like rocks hitting against her windows in her office. The lights were out all except for her dim lamp on her desk. She was one of the last few leaving just like she always was. The light from her laptop screen lit up her face as she finished typing in a few more things to finish up a paper. Clicking on a tab she pulled her emails back up to see a name ‘Daniel Rockford’ she stared debating on opening a new message. She sighed a bit deciding it to be a bad idea and closed her laptop putting in her bag. It was a Friday night just like any others the rain was pouring and the quiet hum from the halls could be heard. She put her bag on her shoulder turning off her lamp and heading out of the room. Her phones time read 9:54 P.M, here she was leaving at almost ten o’clock again. Burying herself into her work to prevent going back home to an empty apartment. Her shoes clicked against the tiles as she headed down the hall making her way to the elevator. Glancing back down at her phone pulling up messages to Daniel, no response just the painful words on the screen:

Can we please talk?” Sent at 5:28 P.M

He had read the message but wasn’t going to reply back to her. It was going to be a long holiday weekend with Valentine’s Day falling on Monday work wouldn’t resume till Tuesday. Everyone would be enjoying their weekend making plans seeing loved ones. While she was going to be work on papers and accounts till Tuesday morning finally arrived. The elevator beeped as it went up to each floor 42,43,44 till it finally got to floor 49 and opened up for her to step inside. Stepping inside she pressed P4 and watched as the doors slowly started to close.
