General Roleplays are standalone designs that tend to have a more narrow scope of setting presented for the players involved, with a more focused plot. The other name by which they are know on this site is
Play-By-Post roleplays.
Epic Roleplays, on the other hand, tend to have much larger, open worlds, with a multitude of plots happening simultaneously, across the various points within the setting of the roleplay.
To use something of an analogy, General Roleplays tend to cover as scope such as the goings on of a student body at a supernatural high school. While, by contrast, in an Epic Roleplay, that high school would be but one of many more locations, and things happening outside the high school could have a direct impact on what happens at the high school. This isn't a hard rule, but more of a guideline.
Additionally, Epic Roleplays require a vetting process that involves gathering a number of roleplayers to spearhead, and usually involve multiple GMs to oversee the various plots going on.
