The primary language in the Republic is one, unsurprisingly, optimized for both mechanical use and efficient use of space, and to a lesser extent to find something difficult for foreign nations to process. To the un-enhanced and biological, such a language can be extraordinarily difficult to learn.
That being said, the popular form of proper noun usage is to borrow words from other tongues, further complicating the code-speak.

The Machine Cult- What started as a simple transhumanist movement and flaunting of wealth gained the support of theologians and idealogues alike. Now, the more ‘enhanced’ by cybernetics one is, the higher in status they will be held by other followers.
While the government is technically secular, the machine-cult of the Republic has an immense influence on everything from culture to politics to military to everyday life. To these individuals, flesh is a constraint, the shackles of mortality are not rules to live by, but a barrier to their ascension to the land of the gods.
Many believe that somewhere, in the depths of space, lies a dormant god, a messiah that could bring the chosen faithful to ascension.

The FRAS's pride and joy, cybernetic enhancement is simply a fact of life for the majority of the population. Every facet of one’s former flesh-and-blood body can be replaced, upgraded, or converted, and the range of modifications are endless.
Numerous AIs exist throughout the republic, and the Machine-Cult treats them as a higher caste of sorts, even if many of these intelligences are either indifferent to or amused by this faith. Much more rarely you find an ‘Ascendant’, or a living person that has had their minds uploaded and converted into an AI. The process is fatal to the former body, and prohibitively expensive for the common folk.
Republic scientists have discovered a way to make devices that can project what they refer to as ‘hard light’, a glowing substance that is nearly massless and can range from opaque to nearly transparent.

Hard-light systems: All the rage in the republic, most HLS projectors can create a translucent, glowing material of various colors whose strength tends to mimic that of a transition metal, albeit notably more brittle. When a piece of hard light “falls off” of the surface being projected, it tends to fizzle into nothing. Hard light is popular for both consumer electronics and certain forms of weapons and armor due to being able to create an almost weightless object aside from the projector, though for military use it occupies a certain niche due to its unusual interactions with projected-energy weapons.

Legal Drinking Age: For simplicity’s sake, all client races are permitted to consume alcohol at their species’ age of sexual maturity.
Driving Age: Species’ age of sexual maturity.
Age of Sexual Consent/Adult Classification: Species’ age of sexual maturity. Even if one is now no longer biological, they must follow the rules that apply to their original birth-species. Non-organic AI are granted such rights as soon as they are ‘online’.

Status of Drugs: Most psychoactive substances save for a few are somewhat regulated, many of the more extreme are relegated for medical or permit-controlled use only. Social groups often try to ban substances, but rarely do they actually make much progress.
Firearms: Civilians carrying anything automatic or above a certain size quota is prohibited in large population centers, the regulations become more and more loose the farther one is from said population centers. Certain professions and permits can allow individuals to bypass said restrictions to varying extents.
Death Penalty: Often used for the most heinous of crimes unless life in prison is decided rather than death. The body is then donated to science and/or as an organ donor. The family or guardian of someone who receives the death penalty loses all rights or ownership of the body.
