Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived Westeria City: NPA Headquarters

An armored man made a beeline to the NPA Headquarters, through the burning hole and spraying it with Liquid helium, extinguishing the flames in a matter of minutes given that the extreme cold coupled with Helium being inert and a fire retardent.

"I'm going to check for survivors!" The Soldier reported as he darted into the building, which was billowing white steam and helium gas.

"Reinforce the lower floors?" Sonya asked in disbelief. "Whatever the fuck hit us, it hit us hard. We need to get everyone out of here before the whole damn building comes down on all of us. We should get a team to the upper levels and start getting people out. Even our backup power is out, and they need to know to evacuate the building."

The lack of command had the NPA Agents in something of a disarray as no one really seemed sure what their best course of action was. A third agent was on his comm device trying to get a response from the director, or even Titon, but both had gone radio silent after the explosion had shaken the building.

Throughout the building lighting fixtures had been knocked loose from the ceilings and hung haphazardly from wires, and in some places deep cracks ran in the walls and ceilings. Windows had been blown out as well and broken glass littered the floors. The entire structure had been severely compromised, and several of the floors near the point of impact where in danger of collapsing at any minute.

"Detonating charges." A Jupiter Corporation soldier said, his words silently acknowledged by Veronica as she stared down the brave Shelly Reed. She took a few large, yet slow, steps towards Shelly.

"I am loyal to the man who saved me. Who is trying to save you all from yourselves." Veronica answered, "We are trying to secure peace through means you understand. Through violence." The armored woman took every inch she could while speaking, hoping to close the distance.

"We are the Jupiter Corporation. We are your only hope for a peaceful Valore. Universe. Your only hope of ever leaving here alive." It was easy to tell that Veronica believed what she was saying. Like she was a cult member. The woman appeared young enough that her mind may have been molded by someone as influential as a cult leader was.

"Don't make a mistake."

Shelly didn't move from her spot, and her stance was planted and firm. She glanced between Veronica and the Jupiter Corporation soldier once more as Veronica edged closer instead of getting down on the ground as instructed. Shelly's response was swift, and without hesitation.

She lowered the gun to unload a bullet into Veronica's knee where the woman's armored vest would offer little protection.

The bullet found it's mark, dropping Veronica to her knees. Or it seemed that way until the woman slowly stood back up, her knee unscathed by the bullet. The bullet itself was on the ground, flattened by it's impact with the terrorist's body.

"You had your chance." Veronica told Shelly, moving to advance on the other woman quickly. The planted explosives went enough, adding to the damage already caused earlier. Things were moving along perfectly.

Dante, who was still watching from a distance, decided that it was about time to report back to his employer and chalk this up as a victory. Even if they had some help.

Veronica lunged for Shelly, reaching for the woman's throat.

Shelly didn't have time to even contemplate the consequences of the detonations before Veronica made her move.

She stepped back and fired two more shots off at Veronica before her back was against the wall and the woman was on top of her. She brought the rifle around to the side to try and use the length of it to push Veronica back enough to give her space to use the gun as a blunt weapon against her head, much as she had against the nearby soldier.

Veronica was strong, a result of her time with the Jupiter Corporation and becoming one of their success stories. She shrugged off each blow from Shelly, though her gas mask wasn't so lucky. With each hit it began to shatter, exposing Veronica's to the tear gas still in the air.

The woman kept on her attack, trying to choke the life out of Shelly despite the growing pain in her face. No amount of experimentation and enhancements could change that Veronica was, technically, a Human.

The tear gas was getting to her.

The rifle fell to the ground as Shelly grabbed Veronica's forearms to try and break the tightening choke. With the wall against her back, she couldn't maneuver properly and Veronica was very much in control of the situation. Her vision swam as she twisted to her left and brought one of her arms down across Veronica's to break the woman's hold on her throat. It left her side momentarily exposed though and she swung her elbow back towards Veronica's jaw to try and keep Veronica from regaining the hold.

She fought viciously, as if her life depended on it, but size and strength weren't on her side if she couldn't regain control. For that she needed to get space to move, which she couldn't do with her back against the wall.

The tear gas burning Veronica's eyes did well at splitting her focus, allowing Shelly to knock one of her arms down and elbow the terrorist leader in the face. The hit was something of a wake up call for Veronica. The military, the police, all would descend on her and her people despite the other problems they had to face.

Who knew who else would be coming to the defense of the NPA or who had a chip on their shoulder that only vigilantism would solve?

Veronica pulled away the hand still on Shelly's throat, bringing it back towards her face for a vicious slap she hoped would incapacitate the NPA agent for awhile.

Long enough to keep her as leverage.

Under better circumstances, Shelly might have tried to get an arm up to ward against the blow, but the heavy exposure to the tear gas earlier had taken its toll on her. She was fighting nearly blind, and the burning feeling of suffocation left an instinctive panic nestled within her. The strike knocked her to the ground where she caught herself on her hands and knees as she fell, trying to shake away the stars that dotted her bleary vision.

Her hand groped around for something she might use as a weapon. A loose brick, a cracked piece of pavement...

Her fingers closed around a rock.

Her stomach threatened to start heaving again, but she was ready to try and bring the rock to bear against the side of Veronica's skull if the woman tried to pull her back to her feet.

"We're leaving. Bring her." Veronica ordered, coughing violently. The young woman wasn't enjoying Shelly's bravery, not if it got in the way of the plan. "Come on." She said, reaching down to pull Shelly to her feet.

They had taken more time to leave than Veronica wanted, she glanced around catching blurry glimpses of her people fleeing or exchanging gunfire with the military.

They would need more agents on planet if they wanted to sustain the chaos. Or hire some local degenerates.

Shelly's grip on the rock tightened as Veronica bent over to get a hold of her. In a last ditch effort to drop the woman, Shelly brought the rock around with as much force as she could muster, aiming to connect it with the side of Veronica's face in the hope of breaking her jaw or knocking her teeth in.

The rock shattered across Veronica's face causing the woman to stumble from the surprise attack. She could easily take the punishment, but Shelly was seemingly relentless in her attempts at escaping the hostage situation. Once she recovered, Veronica started back in towards Shelly. The woman showed emotion for the first time as she moved. Mostly it was frustration.

"Next time." She said, unable to withstand the tear gas. Veronica veered off from her path towards Shelly to start running towwards downtown. The job was mostly a success, sticking around to be killed wouldn't help things.

As Aries was looking around the armory for something that packed more of a punch than his two desert eagles, he was caught off guard by the sudden shaking of the entire structure. When the lights went out, he knew that shit had most definitely hit the fan and they were wasting precious time at that moment. Despite not really knowing what was going on, the NPA agent moved out of the dark room and glanced around, listening to people screaming and smelling burned flesh among other unpleasant scents. Shaking his head, he knew that although they needed to do as Rick said, the thought of being in a building as it dropped down on top of them was not awesome. Agreeing with Sonya, he just jogged towards the stairwell and instead of moving to the lower floors, made his way up as far as he could, leaping over rubble and anything else that happened to be in his way.

“Shit… just shit…” After having to vault over missing steps, he entered one of the higher floors and just stared at the destruction. Part of the building was missing and there were corpses all over the place. Most of the bodies were beneath pieces of the building that had fallen down, and he wasn’t even sure if there was anyone left alive. Coughing, glad when the fire dwindled down to nothing, he ventured out, trying to find any survivors.

“Hey! Anyone alive in here? We’ve got to get out before the building collapses, so just scream.” He frowned when no one made any noises, and everyone had had checked thus far was dead. Moving back to the stairwell, he made his way up towards the next floor, making sure to stay away from wires and anything else that might kill him.

Shelly pulled herself back to her feet and didn't waste time in heading back towards the front of the building. She needed to get inside. What she found when she made it around front would hinder her efforts. The TAF that had arrived on scene and with the Jupiter Corporation forces falling back, they had begun to secure the area. Many were beginning the process of trying to evacuate the area of civilians and NPA alike, while others continued to engage in gunfire with the terrorists.

Ambulances and other emergency vehicles were beginning to arrive on scene as well to transport the wounded.

"We've located the assistant director," a TAF officer spoke into his comm device. "We're evacuating her with the rest."

"What's going on?" Shelly asked between coughing fits as the officer guided her towards the crowds being herded down the street and away from the danger.

"That building is coming down," the officer explained. "We need to clear the area, and get all of these buildings evacuated."

"My team is in there," she argued.

"And if they're alive, we'll get them out with the rest," the officer answered. "But you need to go with the others."

Without her phone, she had no way to even contact her team inside the building. Soon she joined the rest of the crowd being ushered down the street as people used their sleeves to try and protect their faces from the traces of tear gas.

"This way!" A woman said, reaching out to grab Shelly's arm and lead her to safety. Before she could touch the NPA agent she found herself being pushed aside by another woman.

Veronica had decided to use the evacuation to snatch up Shelly and some others. More people to hand over to Crowley and his scientists. "I have a grenade in my pocket. Don't do anything stupid." Veronica said, very clearly threatening to blow up the fleeing citizens and add to the body count.

She had removed most of what identified her as working with the Jupiter Corporation, leaving only her jumpsuit. Wrapped around her face was a t- shirt, it covering her face enough to keep it concealed and hopefully keep any residual tear gas from slowing her down again.

Shelly wasn't getting away again.

Meanwhile back at the HQ, the situation was rapidly deteriorating. The orders for an evacuation were finally making their way through the ranks, and people were clambering to gear up and make it to the ground floor and out of the building.

Gas masks were swiftly being distributed to see them through the smog of tear gas outside the building while emergency vehicles tried to combat the growing fires initiated by the detonation of the Jupiter Corporation's explosives.

Wounded NPA personnel were being loaded into ambulances while news choppers whirred overhead.

The upper floors had sustained the worst damages - a fact the Rick and Sonya would seen realize.

"Come on, we're being ordered to evacuate," she told him before the ceiling ahead of them collapse.

A large support beam had come down through the ceiling, taking with it sparking wiring and broken ceiling tiles.

"Shit. This way," she told him as she began to retrace their steps. There was another fire escape not far from their current location.

Sarael arrived on the scene in a flurry of robes as he soared over the heads of the evacuees. Slowing to a halt closer to the building, he took a moment to hover and readjust his hair whilst he surveyed the situation. An unpleasant gaseous substance hung in the air near the doors, whilst fires flourished inside. The gaping hole in the side of the building was a significant concern, but there was little he could do for it.

A quick assessment identified the fires as the biggest obstacle to evacuation efforts. Emergency crews were battling the flames valiantly, but progress was slow. Not for long, if he could help it.

Sarael drifted down to ground level, muttering an incantation as he descended. Just before he reached the smog of gas, a small bubble of force appeared around him. The magic would allow air in, but keep the gas out, allowing him to work uninterrupted by gas, heat or smoke. He touched down on the floor and dispelled his flight magic - concentrating on so many spells at once was taxing, and he didn't want to lose focus on the elemental elsewhere in the city.

He stepped towards the doorway calmly, flicking through his spellbook until he came across the correct page. With a series of gestures and arcane words, he directed his magic at the flames. Seemingly from nowhere, a flood of water began to rain down in a torrential spray easily equal to any fireman's hose but over a far wider area.

The fires began to be driven back, but it would still take time for his magic to clear them completely. He only hoped it would be fast enough to save as many lives as was possible.

"Stay back!" Lennox shouted as he and the other law enforcement tried to control would-be heroes and family of those inside the headquarters. He glanced back at the building, making note of how weak it was beginning to look. It would fall soon regardless of what anyone did.

"Get everyone back. We don't need them swept up in the dust when this place falls." Lennox ordered, looking back again to watch the fire crews do their best to buy more time for the agents inside to make it out alive.

Rick followed after Sonya, quietly letting her take the lead. She seemed to have a good handle of the situation, and he no longer could hear any signs of a firefight. When he glanced out a broken window, he was comforted by the sight of flashing lights swarming below. He guessed that the outside threat they'd been facing was no longer a factor.

Now all they had to deal with was the building falling down around them.

His teammate had elected to go charging up to the upper floors. Rick admitted it was valiant enough, but he doubted even if he had joined Aries that the two of them could do anything substantial to help those on the upper floors.
