I have a pretty short list of expectations. If I'm bothered by something, I won't hesitate to let the other person know, and I expect the same treatment. Also, micromanaging is never the solution to making a roleplay successful. From my experience, people like to be told what they did right...

I have read and liked books with characters I don't have empathy for, but I wouldn't read a book simply because it has "unlikeable" characters. They would have to fit the context of the story and they would still have to be written well.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami. I think these books are enjoyable because I always find something new when I reread them. They're relatively short, but both have an almost surrealist style.
