Fareeha smiled and nodded. "That is fine by me. With trustworthy people like you, I'm sure these two would feel safe if they were awake."
---
She closes her eyes, remembering them all. The kind heroes. Yes, they were heroes, the kind she had idolized once upon a time. But the problem with heroes was that they were only human. Mistakes were made. Choices were regretted. And no matter who you saved, someone always had to pay a price.
In this case, three people did. But she would get to that in a moment.
Day One. Escorts arrived on time and loaded onto the train in a timely manner. There was no incident with either personnel or transportation, and we were on schedule until the next day.
She gulps. Now came the first difficult part to relay.
Day Two. At about 1200 hours, the train had arrived in Deadlock Gorge, right on schedule. The train was caught in a trap set by the Deadlock Gang, with the intention of stealing valuables. However...
---
"You're tellin' me we got two Overwatch agents on board? Ha! We're eatin' good tonight, boys!"
---
Their leader, Elizabeth Caledonia Ashe, discovered the two Overwatch agents in the infirmary. At that point, the gang, determined to give them up to the highest bidder, hijacked the train and prepared to steer it to another course. Refusing to surrender, the group fought back, but...
---
"Ugh!" Ashe slammed into the wall of the last car, slumping to the ground in a heap. Her rifle, having fallen out of her hands, was picked up by Dae-Hyun, who looked to Fareeha. She stood on the threshold of the next car, motioning for him to come join her. "We'll lock her in and leave her with the authorities at the coast," she said.
He nodded, walking forward, but stopping just a few steps from the door. His body froze, and he paled, as if realizing something.
"Dae-Hyun?" That was all she was able to ask before she heard it, too. The hissing of lit dynamite. "Hurry! You have time to--"
BANG! Fareeha shielded her face with her arm at the sound of gunfire. Looking up, she looked out her car, seeing Dae-Hyun holding the rifle from his car...which had been shot off its link and isolated on the tracks.
"NO!"
BOOM!
---
Coalition Agent and MEKA Operative Dae-Hyun Park sacrificed himself to save the rest of the team.
She stops then, needing a moment. This is the part where you say he died a hero. But he didn't. He died a boy turned into a man too soon, forced to grow up too fast in a world that should've been protecting him, not the other way around. But the higher-ups don't want to hear things like that, so she leaves it out and keeps going.
The train stayed on track, minus one car and one personnel. Other injuries were minor, and we arrived at the Pacific Ocean at 0530 hours.
She swallows the lump in her throat, steeling herself before continuing.
Day Three was the final day, and our trek across the Pacific. At this point, those of us able to report to Gwishin duty did so, while the rest stayed belowdeck. Gwishin duty went without a hitch. The Omnics were easily defeated by our combined efforts, and the train suffered no damage.
When we returned inside the train, however, it was a different story entirely.
---
Fareeha gasped at the sight before her. The cars were demolished from the inside, the Omnic staff broken into pieces. "What happened? How did this..." Her eyes widened. "The infirmary!" Wasting no time, she rushed forward, into the infirmary car. And what she saw...
---
Talon Agent Gabriel Reyes, codename Reaper, had infiltrated our mission just before our arrival in the Pacific. During Gwishin duty, he made his move, attacking and incapacitating those aboard. All but one Coalition Agent survived his attacks, but Ty Lee followed him into the infirmary, desperately trying to hold him off, but...
---
"H-Hang in there!" Fareeha put a hand on Ty Lee's stomach, trying to keep the girl from bleeding anymore. "MEDIC! WE NEED A MEDIC!"
"N-No..." Ty Lee shook her head feebly, blood trickling out of her mouth. "P-Please. Save them...before...he..."
Her head lolled to the side. Another child, lost. But Fareeha had no time to mourn her yet. There were still two people to save. She stood, bursting into the infirmary itself, and...
---
Genji Shimada had already been killed.
That's all she can write before she needs a break, a sob wracking her chest. Ty Lee...Genji...two kind, good people lost in a span of a minute. And they had just barely saved Reinhardt. But worst of all...after all that, she couldn't kill Gabe. After the lives he took, she just...couldn't stand another death. Five minutes later, she finishes up the report.
Reaper was arrested and brought to Coalition HQ to be dealt with. Wilhelm Reinhardt was successfully placed in Busan. Overall, there were three Coalition casualties, and one casualty in the Deadlock Gang.
One last thing to do. She scrolls back up. Mission status...is it a success? Is it a failure? She doesn't know. It feels like both and neither at the same time. Reinhardt was saved. Genji wasn't. Two kids died. And so did the Gabe from her childhood. So many heroes, lost but not forgotten, that all she can say is:
Mission Status: Complete
