The night was cool. Not cold, it was still only fall, but it was cooling down and chilly enough for the man to need his sweatshirt. He couldn't see his breath when he breathed out, not just yet, but as the days began counting closer to Halloween, and as an extension Christmas, he knew it was coming. The city was dark this time of night, well, as dark as New York could get. But it was significantly less crowded, at least on this side of the tracks. The man could feel the gun heavy in his pocket. He already lived in the rougher side of town, but with the recent murders he had become even more...well, scared. People didn't leave their houses at night anymore, not after the 4th victim of the 7 so far. Unfortunately for him, he was forced to stay late at work, leaving his shift 5 hours later than he had been planning on, and now he was caught in the streets in the dead of night, no one around. Luckily, he had gone and gotten a concealed carry and he was armed. The weapon made him feel a little safer, but still...

It was creepy out there.

He was a block from home when he heard it, the shuffling, the breathing. He froze for a moment, his blood turning to ice and his heart jumping into his throat. The man began walking faster; he was almost home, if he could just make it--

Cold hands reached out and grabbed him, pulling him into the alley he was passing, his screams muffled by the icy appendages that had him captured. He reached for his gun, letting off two shots that did nothing. He had hit the person, he knew he did, he had felt the barrel push against the other's ribs, but the killer (he knew it was the killer, just as he knew he was about to die) made no sound, no signal that the bullets had hit him.

The man felt hot breath against his skin, the smell of copper and something rotting settling into his nose. In the street light, he saw the glint of the person's- no, the demon's eyes. He could see Hell itself in the monster's eyes, and it would be the last thing he saw before the creature snapped the man's neck and everything went black.

Above the new victim and his killer, a woman sat, watching in horror. Her frail bones shook and she knew there was only one person who could help solve this, to bring this killer down. As quickly as she could, she made her way to her car, leaving through the opposite side of the building and drove as quickly as she could to the police station. She fast and silent and slid in and out of the station, leaving a single hand-written note on the detective's desk that read: 'see Lady Viper for help' with an address just below, and a set of numbers just below that. The old woman took one last glance at the police station before leaving, praying that the detective would take the advice, and praying that the killer would get caught and fast.

Once again someone else was dead. The killer certainly had a lot of energy for so many murders in such a short amount of time.

Once again the tedious task of getting out and to the body began. Then came the search for clues, and with all the others snapped necks but of course no evidence. Not to mention tons of logical leaps that even he couldn't make happen. Rounds had been fired and they were no where to be found. Loged inside the assailant perhaps? There was no way to be sure or perhaps even the man just didn't like a full magazine.

He looked at the note and decided it was probably time to give this lady a visit. So upon deciding that he walked to the addresses specificed as it wasn't far and knocked. " Hey Open up! It's the police!"

This case was making their team look bad! With more bodies piling up and no answeres the leader of the top detective squad was starting to come under fire. As this was the longest going unsolved case in the team's career which was a ugly bruise on their rep.

The Coroner helped load the body up once intial examination had been completed and was going to proceed to take it to the morgue. Loading up and going down the road.
