Name: Daniel Vitae

Alias: The Bloody Medic

Affiliations: Sierran's, Vitae family heir

Age: 21

Species: Human (Host)

Place of Birth: Traveler's Ship, en route to Wayfarer's Point

Daniel was born to a noble house of Vitae, his family held honor and tradition at the forefront of their values and sought to make a living out on the frontier as new species and races were discovered. The Vitae household had a strong focus on trade and craft, others could often find a family tie in merchants throughout the Nexus as well as the medical field; it was a responsibility for those born into the family to pursue a future in those fields as they continued to build their network through multiple planes.

Daniel was just the latest, and of the two most common professions in his family he had an aptitude for the medical field. As a youth he was an avid study, and with the unique races coming in and out of the Nexus his family was eager to learn about the anatomy and practices brought to the Nexus from a variety of cultures - and much like how it's easier for a child to learn a new language as they develop, Daniel took to learning the most common races and species throughout the Nexus like it was just another language.

This led to a rather profitable time for the Vitae family, as the elders prospered through trade and connections Daniel learned all that he cold to take care of others - unfortunately for him, this exposed him to a lot of health concerns and in his late teens he fell sick with an illness from his exposure to injured and sick species that even his family's greatest doctor's believed to be incurable. It was looking like Daniel wasn't going to last long, and strangely enough, it wasn't the medical side of the family that found a solution - but the traders, and their connections. Reaching out through all the high profile leaders they knew, they waited, not receiving any notification of possible help until one of the more.. Unsavory, connections of theirs reached out with a solution.

They had come across a living "creature" that had remarkable recovery abilities, diseases, wounds, illnesses, whatever they had tested on this organism seemed ineffective as long as it was fed. They noticed that when starved, it's abilities were drastically weakened and slowed but otherwise their testing was yielding highly positive results. The issue, they couldn't find any effective way to use it's properties for the betterment of others. It was a hostile creature, without a picky appetite as it would consume almost anything organic based given the opportunity so they had failed to discover any use of it's DNA or material to help - but they were eager to keep testing.

Daniel became their latest experiment, the Vitae family was desperate and out of options, so they allowed their connection to take in Daniel for their experiments with the hopes that they would come up with a solution. What this led to was the single most painful experience of Daniel's life, a gruesome mix of science and cultism as the creature they were working with's blood was drained from it's body after weeks of starvation to leave it weak and desperate - then letting it consume, little by little Daniel's own blood. The creature's blood was ravenous, it acted like an aggressive parasite, infecting and consuming whatever bit of energy it could get it's hands on and if they had the time they would have continued to run experiments like this to learn as much as they could, but Daniel didn't have long left with his illness and donating blood for this cause didn't help his timeline in the slightest so they moved on to their main goal. A transfusion, between their little parasite and Daniel.

It didn't go well. At least, not at first. The parasite latched onto him immediately, eating away at his insides, destroying what was left of his body after his illness as the connection's scientists watched on in amazement. He was being consumed from the inside now, and it wasn't long before he was pronounced dead. No heartbeat, no brain activity, but the blood flow was still moving as the parasite moved through his body, eating away at him slowly as to preserve it's meal. The connection announced his death to the Vitae family, the failure of their experiment, but that they would do their best to provide them with a body to bury once they managed to get the parasite out.

Therein lied the problem, they soon discovered that getting it out of Daniel was a lot harder than their first attempt from it's original host - the parasite had learned. Every needle put in was soon clotted, using the human body's ability to harden a scab at an exponential speed to seal any attempt to pull it away from it's meal. But that wasn't going to be enough, the parasite in it's rudimentary knowledge could understand this, that it needed protection of some sort if it wanted to remain in it's host - and so began the repair.

Little by little the flesh that was eaten, veins, capillaries, fat tissue, muscles, even bones that had lost it's density had begun to replenish at a very slow rate. This creature only had Daniel's body as a fuel source, so it was difficult to make anything out of nothing, that is until the scientists started to take notice of the results. The corpse that was on their table was starting to look lively. The blood was pumping, color was returning, but it was still very much a corpse on their medical table. So they started to feed it, getting saline and an IV drip from the Vitae family so that they could keep it closer to human standards and bit by bit they saw improvement. Full color returned to his skin, blood pumped through his veins, any remnant of the illness he had was gone as the parasite started to make improvements to it's new host. If it was going to stay, it was going to stay in a body that could meet it's demands. This process took weeks, but just over a year after the experiment had begun, Daniel opened his eyes again and took a breath in a brand new body.

Years later, Daniel was still practicing medicine. Taking care of any species in the nexus that needed help, learning all that he could to take care of them better as he got used to living with a parasite inside him. Overall, his outward appearance didn't change much, he even seemed to age slower as he kept a remarkably young appearance through the years. His appetite? Expanded, he found himself hungry more often than not but it was manageable to an extent. His health? Extraordinary, there were no traces of the illness that plagued his earlier years, and maybe it was just luck, but he hadn't even gotten sick with the smallest cold since the completion of the experiment. In fact, he had a few neat tricks that he kept to himself. While it was uncommon, medical mishaps happen, and on an occasion where he accidentally cut himself while operating - by the time he got his medical gloves off to inspect the wound, it had sealed. No mark, but there was still some blood as he wiped it away looking for the cut, and within moments even the blood itself was gone as it seemed to wick back into his skin.

Vitae was happy with this resolution, one of their children alive and prosperous and building recognition for their family as a well-practiced doctor for multiple species across the Nexus. While happy, this wasn't enough for Daniel, his body kept aching for more, a sedentary life taking care of others made him feel restless - and night after night, he felt like his body was slowly preparing itself for something more.

Equipment:
  • Vitae Ceremonial Blade: Daniel is no expert swordsman, he's not flashy, but he can handle it well but the blade itself is mostly a sign of status. All members of the Vitae household have their own blade with the same embroidery and coloration to signify their family standing.
  • Vitae Regalia: Dressing professionally is a must for the men of the Vitae household, and many will be hard pressed to find Daniel not wearing his family's traditional clothing with a Vitae family crest embroidered onto the coat.
  • Medical Supplies: Due to his profession, Daniel can be often found with a bag strapped along his back full of tools and emergency medical supplies so that he's prepared to help others should the need arise.

Abilities:
  • Parasite's Host: Daniel has an unnatural resistance to illness and disease, his constitution bolstered by a parasite that monitors his health and ensures it's hosts well-being. As long as he is well fed, his recovery is exceptional and in dire straights the parasite will take matters into it's own hands to ensure the host will survive. Part of this includes a supernatural strength and resilience, the parasite works tediously to make the most of the body's muscles and tendons to achieve maximum output - an otherwise fatal option for most where their body may tear from overexertion.
  • Medical Expertise: Profound understanding of the anatomy of humans, and many common species found throughout the Nexus. As long as a creature's physiology isn't highly complex, Daniel is confident that he can work with it.
  • Ravenous: Daniel's hunger has grown exponentially since the experiment, and there is never a time where he feels completely full. Under normal conditions he will eat politely, but much like how his blood ate his own body at the beginning of the experiment and how the parasite's original host would shift and change forms to devour whatever it could - Daniel's body is very much the same. His blood alone is a parasite, spilling it onto an organic substance will allow it to start feeding and potentially be recovered later.
