Angela West strolled down the sidewalk, a scowl on her dark-skinned face. She was short, no more than five feet. Her eyes were dark brown her hair raven and pulled into a pony tail at the back of her head. She wore a black hooded coat, a navy shirt underneath, bluejeans, and black combat boots. A blood-red purse was strapped across her chest, containing her essentials: a wallet, stuffed frog-like creature, and an mp3 player with earbuds.
Despite it being a cool autumn night, the streets of Uptown New York were crowded. People and cars passed her by, but the young woman paid them no mind. She had been out here all day and only managed to earn ten bucks. She was hungry, tired, and in desperate need of someplace to decompress.
Thankfully, luck was on her side, and it came in the form of a large tavern just up ahead. A ghost of a smile graced her cold features as she sped up and entered through the double doors.
The place was huge, a long bar on the left, tables on the right. A country song played through large speakers mounted high on the walls, making Angela cringe. She made her way to the back where a small, comfy lounge area was and sat on a large gray couch before a big screen TV, which showed the evening news.
Making certain she was alone, the young lady pulled off her purse and put it beside her. Unzipping it, she retrieved the Crazy Frog doll and placed it in her lap, looking into its different-shaped eyes and patting its back, her face softening into a smile.
