[OOC] Endurn: Heart of the Alauum

Do I check with Soul first about the abilities or do I post them with the sheet and they judge then?
There is no they. I'm the only one you "answer" to and by that I mean, I'm the only GM in the RP right now so I'll do any and all CS approving :) I'm happy to look over it before I go to bed tonight if you get it posted! It's 9:30 here now, I head to bed at 11 so if it's up by then, I'll check it. Also, you can always PM me things if you want them checked privately.

I said they not as in plural, but because I've already gotten enough crap over automatically assuming everyone is a he on the internet that I just use neutral terms to avoid the yelling and the headaches.

Right, gotcha, I'll post soon and see what ya think.

OH. Sorry about that. I'm Soul, my name is Jesika (Jes) IRL, I'm 24, I'm a woman, I have an almost 5 year old son. I'm a religious studies university major, starting my 4th year, and I'm Canadian :D

There :D Now you all know me a bit better :) I look forward to seeing your CS!

Name: Alathon Leaflight

Race: Oddokai

Culture: Sunborn Culture

Age: 109

Gender: Male

Hometown: Isire

Personality in 5 Words: Thrill-Seeking, Obsessive, Adventurous, Witty, Determined

Descriptive Personality: Alathon lives for the thrill that is life. Every day is a new experience, a range explored or a cliff leaped, and he loves it all. The rush, the adrenalin, the cold feeling and burst of fear and uncertainty as he leaps from tree to tree, swinging and hollering, before he lands perfectly and repeats the motion, twisting and turning. Every place he’s been, all the people he’s met, they all hold a special place in his heart, whether positive or negative. No matter what happens, he is determined to make his way through his life with a grin on his face, a joke on his lips and adventure ahead of him.

Occupation: He’s a ranger, his job is to explore and guide others through possibly dangerous territory.

Mage Spirit: Mage of Valor

BACKSTORY
History: All his life Alathon has lived according to one sentence. ‘Hold no regrets’. One of his earliest memories involves him at the deathbed of his great great great great grandfather. The 3056 year old Oddokai had had a long run, one of the longest if his mother was to be believed.

Alathon wasn't particularly close to his grandfather. His family hardly ever visited him, and when they did he was only legible for a small amount of time. But here, at his deathbed, his grandfather seemed more conscious and concise than any time Alathon had ever seen him. The old bones of the Oddokai moved to grasp his Grandson’s hands, the skin rough, and he looked into Alathon’s eyes.

“Hold no regrets. Hold no regrets, Alathon.” The old elf rasped, mouth forming the words with clarity supposedly long gone. “All my life… I have seen regrets. I have seen them pile up upon an elf, breaking them down, weighing against them. In all my years alive, I have made many decisions that I… regret.” His grandfather continues, grasp on Alathon’s hand tightening as he stared into the youth’s eyes.

“Three thousand years alive, and nothing to show for it. No monument in my name, not even a tree. Three. Thousand. Years. And it is all because of my decisions. Decisions I regret. When I should have pushed, I faltered. When I should have stood my ground, I crumbled. When I should have… when I should have told them no, I said yes.” He says, eyes beginning to unfocused before they snap back to his.

“Don't live like me Alathon. When something appears in your life, take it with both hands and *leap*. Soar with all you have, hold nothing back. Take every chance you can. Improve yourself, help others, indulge. Never falter. Make sure that you have as few regrets as possible.” The old elf has sat up by this point, both hands now grasping Alathon’s in a vice like grip. “Promise me, child. Promise me.” He begs, tears leaking from eyes long thought to be dried up.

Stuttering out a promise, Alathon watched as his Grandfather relaxed, hands letting go, sitting back in his bed. “Good boy. I know you’ll keep your promise. You always do. Now go. I feel faint, and need rest.” He says, a soft smile upon his face as he shoos Alathon out of the room.

That was the last time Alathon saw his grandfather, as he later found out that the old elf died shortly after. Taking the words to heart, Alathon has lived to have no regrets ever since. He threw himself at life, and reaped the rewards. Few elves could give him a competition when it came to acrobatic ability or skill with the staff, and none could ever call him unmotivated in his journey through life.

Relationships: He is a single child of two Oddokai, with no siblings.

Those in his village hold a great amount of respect for him and his abilities.

Aside from that, he has no other close relationships, despite being relatively well known.

CHARACTER
Strengths:
Thrill seeker: Never afraid or unwilling to put his life on the line, Alathon will be the first into anything, and the last out.

Near death lifestyle: Alathon is adept in analysing a situation and making decisions in a split second during the heat of the moment.

Sharp minded: Alathon finds it easy to adapt to a situation and utilise it to help him, whether it be making jokes at other’s expense or finding possible advantages.

Skills:
Acrobatics: Alathon is an adept acrobat. While he by no means would be able to contend with the best of his people, he's still very respectable in his skill and in capable of great feats of alacrity (In human terms).

Bladed Staff Training: In order to survive the wild, Alathon has trained to use a bladed quaterstaff, with blades placed at either end of the staff. This staff doubles as both a weapon and fallbreaker, as he is capable of using it to save him from a bad fall or to leap through the air mid combat.

Survival: As a ranger, Alathon is an expert at utilising the surrounding environment to keep himself full and hydrated throughout a journey that requires a long way away from civilisation.

Tracking: As a ranger, Alathon is adept at tracking wild beasts and even other elves, recognising the variety of clues left by a creature. It helps when those he’s escorting decide they want to go exploring without him.

Ranging: Alathon is an expert at scouting and mapping local terrain through a variety of methods, whether it be from a birds eye view or simply exploring. His expertise at stealth allows him to know how to cover his tracks from those pursuing him, which is often a very hungry animal, and how to hide using the local surroundings. Alathon is fast, capable of utilising his natural ancestry to stay ahead of all but the Sylvuin as he dashes through open plains and tundra.

Dexterity/Agility: Alathon’s dexterity and agility is practically supernatural. All Oddokai are dexterous and agile, but Alathon is on an entirely new level. Capable of leaping through the air with but the smallest incline, flipping and twirling as he weaves havoc, confusion and pain between those below him.

Weaknesses:
The Promise: While Alathon’s promise is what is responsible for what he has managed to accomplish throughout his life, it also poses a significant risk. He will never back down from a challenge, no matter how impossible it may seem for fear that he would hold regrets, and this will quite possibly end with his death.

Flighty body: Alathon is light on his feet and agile beyond comprehension, but the payoff for this is the fact that he is not used to taking damage. Relying upon his skills to keep him out of danger, Alathon never had time to train his body in the ability to take pain. Thus, he is weak in his ability to ignore pain and unable to take very many hits.

Inexperienced: While he is by no means a social slouch, Alathon never really had time to intermingle and socialise with those his age as he pushed himself harder and harder to master his crafts. Thus, while he recognises devices such as sarcasm, he is unable to recognise the subtle hints and motions of language. It's this minor inability that has kept him single all these years, despite his looks and skills, as his potential partners are constantly accidentally rebuffed.

Unable to swim: Alathon is completely and utterly inept at swimming. If you placed him in a pool of water taller than he is, he would quickly drown if he were unable to reach the bottom of pool.

Almuin language barrier: Tying in with his inability to swim, Alathon is also completely unable to understand the Almuin language beyond the general yes, no and hellos.

Seasickness: Alathon is amazingly prone to seasickness, although he does not yet know it. Throughout any journey that lasts more than an hour on boat, he feels constantly queasy, sick, dizzy and often pukes.

Alathon
SOUL ABILITIES
1st Soul Ability: Noble Goal: When the party’s life is truely on the line, against what can be seen as a possibly unstoppable opponent, receive an increase to all natural abilities throughout the fight. However, should a party member be in dire trouble during this fight and you are able to prevent it, you must try do so despite the possible ramifications to your own body. While originally this ability results in Alathon's mana slightly increasing his physical attributes and reaction times, over time it can grow to turn him into a whirlwind of strength, speed and even help boost his intelligence.

2nd Soul Ability: Resolute: Should Alathon choose to be placed in a situation that others would call impossible, or required an extreme amount of danger, he receives a large increase to all stats relevant to the task. This bonus is heavily dependent upon his confidence that he can perform the task, and increases as he performs more and more death defying acts of bravery.

3rd Soul Ability: Hero’s Call: Grant nearby allies a short boost in attack and defense which manifests in mana coating their bodies and weapons. Initially this may only strengthen armor a little or boost an attack a touch, but with time, the user can grant allies with impenetrable armor and weapons that can deliver devastating attacks. Though these boosts are limited and last only a short time at first, they will grow into long lasting and countless boons for allies.

4th Soul Ability: Daring Rush: For a short time, gain the ability to fend off harder attacks and strike harder with every swing. Rush into battle without fear, knocking aside foes to enter the center of battle. Initially, this is based on resolve and only when the user is wholly trusting in their ability will it serve them, but as the user gets stronger and more confident with the ability, the user will be able to ignite this ability without a thought and as it grows, it will result in long-lasting, heightened powers which devastate foes.

5th Soul Ability: Eye of the Skies: Alathon gains the ability to enter the mind of a bird and claim its sense as his own, allowing him to scout regions undetected and get a perfect image of the lay of the land. At first, only small songbirds may be used but with time he can harness the fastest fliers. Initially, this ability is hard to control, visions will be blurry, the bird will feel bothered by Alathon's presence and largely uncooperative. However, with time, he can learn to connect more with the nature and spirit of the birds and eventually they will welcome him. At this point, he can even will the bird to go certain places and act certain ways, like a well trained companion of the senses. If he ever leads a bird to its death, he will suffer immense and long-lasting pain, having to bear the sensations of death for himself.

PERKS
Culture Specific Perk: Sunborn Culture: You can predict weather and function in the day where the moonborn cannot.

Race Specific Perk 1: Float-footed: Your communion with the skies have given your kind a unique ability to be able to jump in a way that makes gravity appear half as powerful.

Race specific Perk 2: Dragaern Mount: A gift from the gods, you carry with you an odd, scaly staff that doubles as a weapon. However, when you wish it, the staff turns into a helpful wyvern mount the size of a horse. It is passive and dies if it does any harm

Race Specific Perk 3: Follow the Wind: You can always find the way out of caves, buildings, and labyrinths based on the beckon of the wind.

OTHER
Distastes: Alathon has very few things he doesn't like, but the most prominent of them all are cowards. It's not as if he hates them, or despises them, but whenever he sees a coward he is reminded of his grandfather and feels pity for them. Oftentimes he tries to help cure them of their cowardliness, to mixed results.

Preferences: ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING NEW.

Forests, mountains or any place that allows him to leap from place to place, hang from ledges and generally just fool around and explore.

Aspirations:
He wishes to be able to experience everything the world has to offer while giving his best. It doesn't matter if after that he may be bored, as long as he upholds his promise he’s satisfied.

One day he hopes to be in the same situation as his grandfather was in, but this time with none of the regrets, and impart wisdom upon his great great great great grandchild.

Okay, so I love the idea, our third Odakkai and another male! Awesome start.

So I just glanced over it, but I'm going to focus on the soul abilities. I have a few questions for you to consider, because you're definitely on the right track making them catered to adventure and having them be really useful, but there are three major criteria for these to consider:

1. Does it serve a purpose for the adventure?
2. Can you roleplay it in action?
3. Can it be leveled up? If so, how?

Now, you nailed number one, so let's focus on 2 and 3. Can you roleplay these with more than just "it was activated and they were buffed" or "he was bound to act, no matter what would come to pass" (I'm simplifying here to make a point)? If not, you might want to consider choosing a different ability or changing these to make them more suited to a text-based Rp :) Also, they have to be skills you can develop as your character gets better at them.

So have a think on those, and I'll formally go over the CS tomorrow morning :)

Oh, and remember, the Moonborn can't go into the sunlight without being covered and they're noturnal (Something to consider!) for more detailed info on the two subraces, ping @Mowkie and she can tell you everything. She made the Odakkai race so she knows even more than I do!

Oh my God *pales* I didn't edit and fix the abilities for the hero of Valor. XD XD XD oh my God. It still says 'and boosts mana probably'

I'm so sorry. I'm going to fix it up tomorrow and make sure both of those abilities are on point before we start. God there's just so much work to do! *face-palms* I'm so scattered lol

Majorly edited my character and it's still in progress :) going to finish tomorrow.

Name: Xaltair

Race: Odakkai (Moonborn)

Age: 84

Gender: Male

Hometown: Sa'kyrae City

Personality in 5 Words at the beginning of the rp: Righteous, optimistic, headstrong, nomadic, scarred
Descriptive Personality: Xaltair is always seeking out a new adventure where he can befriend and learn to understand new groups of people. He is a firm believer in the power of light, good, and positivity, and makes it his duty to unlock this potential light in people. He considers himself a man unchained by any societal order or religion, establishing his own set of beliefs of how the world should appear. He views the world this way, optimistically and a landscape for change, making his ambitions often larger than he can achieve. Also, while holds an ideal image of the world, he sometimes fails to see the world in a light other than his, and therefore he doesn't always realize some people's natures just can't be changed. His loss in the past has created a shadow of trauma behind him and enforced his hatred and fear of the darkness. The more he stays in one place in his life, physically and mentally, the more he this darkness catches up to him, so he must keep travelling. Despite what he says, he is not completely in control of his emotions. He can only escape them for so long. In the meantime, though, he is sure of his ability to change the world around him and is exceptionally faithful to whatever cause he sets off to, even if it harms those around him. While he does wish to expand his set of beliefs based on the places he goes, he's rather stubborn and relies too much on his own morals to stray from their cause, and therefore has a somewhat skewed understanding of how the properties of life and many of life's functions really work.

Occupation: Social Activist
Mage Spirit: Mage of Dark

History: Xaltair was born to an average Odakkai family in Sa'Kyrae City. He was raised off the ideals of godly worship rather than ethics and compassion to others. This worship forged his purpose and an idea of right and wrong. His actions were all to keep his belief satisfied and follow the order of his society. His parents were flute makers and therefore couldn't travel anywhere, but he founded a childhood friendship with the moonborn Alavara. One night, he took a journey with Alavara's tribe on their caravan, but the caravan was attacked by a pack of vicious wolves, a childhood trauma that instilled in Xaltair a fear of the dark. So, he stayed every night in the comfort of the well-lit city he knew, longing for more but fearful of what lurked in the night. Therefore, he always denied his moonborn nature and much preferred the warm, comforting glow of the sun. He was taught the balance of nature and the importance and beauty of both light and dark, but he wouldn't listen to this certain lesson. He had formed his own belief that light was the ultimate benevolent force by the events that occurred, and kept a narrow outlook on darkness as the symbol of evil. However, he still remained faithful to the gods he was taught to worship.

One day, drought fell upon the city and Xaltair prayed hard to the god Irikahn for some winds of direction, finally hearing a voice deep inside him telling him to travel south with Alavara to Mythern and ask the Almiuns for Miuna's blessing of rain onto their land. His reliance on the god gave him the strength to stand up to his fear of the dark and travel at night. However, as the two were crossing Korim's Breath, they were attacked by an infantile, sacred Aurora Dragon. The dragon was about to strike at Alvara, but in an act of desperation and acting off of what he thought was right rather than off his kind's beliefs, Xaltair accidentally killed the dragon, saving Alvara's life. He chose his friend over his faith. However, because he performed such an unspeakable act to the very creatures that the Odakkai worshipped, Xaltair was sentenced to exile, banished from the only home he knew. Before he went away, his parents gifted him a beautiful crystal flute they crafted themselves so he could replenish mana, and Alavara gave him an Ohmakkad cloak that would shield his sensitive skin from the sun so he could travel during the day.

Xaltair stopped believing in his god, for he felt that it had led him astray and abandoned him in the darkness. This also reinforced his trauma of the night. He was left hopeless and confused about what to do next, as he felt there was nothing guiding him anymore and the world that lied in front of him was no longer as exciting, rather dangerous. In need of a hospitable shelter and a new home, Xaltair decided to travel south to Sora Vuu. He was secured passage on a boat around Korim's Breath by the villagers of Isire and given some gold for his troubles, and when sunset arrived he decided to stay the night at the town of Vatar. Before he could get a room at the inn, he was mugged and most of his gold was stolen. What he witnessed in that town was evil and darkness in the heart of man beyond anything he had ever seen. This gave Xaltair a sudden purpose to follow and a new understanding of morals. He would follow the light, that light of hope that had always stuck with him, whether it was the light of the sun or the light of goodness that he saw in people. He made it his goal to awaken this good within others and extinguish the dark, and even through the tiredness of the day, Xaltair knew the light was there to guide him on his way and reward him for his duties towards the virtuous. He took on a more optimistic view of the world and saw reflected in it the change he wanted to see.

Since the sun rises in the east, Xaltair followed its light east instead to spread his word and personal ethical beliefs to other civilizations. One place and civilization stood out in particular to Xaltair as requiring change, and that was the Vara community of Separa. With conviction, he tried his hardest to end their hostile behaviors and try to make them see the possibility of a better future, but they would not change their mindsets. He tried to make them believe that he knew what it felt like to be abandoned by a god and a world, but he did not sway their views. He was finally able to befriend three Varan over the years, though, who admired his passion and saw him as more than a pureblood, instead as a friend. So, they helped him with his struggle to bring about social change, but made little progress. One night, however, one of the friends, Thysia, who stood by Xaltair to the end, took matters into her own hands and protested rather strongly against a group of Varans for their unfair treatment of purebloods, and they retaliated by beating her to death.

When Xaltair learned the next morning of what happened, he was heartbroken. His own teachings which were meant to accomplish peace within these people accomplished exactly the opposite, harmed yet another person close to him. He thought perhaps he was too direct with the imposition of good morals onto the Varans, but he did not, however, lose his faith in the light. He knew that he ended up making a slight social change and even that mattered, so he reassured himself that what he was doing was right. He kept an optimistic outlook even though the past and the darkness that followed behind him as his shadow would remain.

He left the city with the thought of failure still lingering in his head but still willing to try to make a change in people. He traveled back to the west to Haran, a city populated by healers and users of light mana manipulation. He knew this would be the perfect place to acquire the ability to truly make a change in the world and take his devotion to the light to the next level of initiative. When he arrived, a healer gladly agreed to teach him the ways of accessing light mana, the process relying on understanding, emotion, and willpower. However, when Xaltair first tried to heal a simple wound he created for practice, it did nothing because while he had the correct amount of willpower, he lacked emotional control as the past still tugged onto him and his fear of the natural darkness held him back, and he had a lack of understanding of what light mana truly was, the integrity of a being rather than their morality. Xaltair was absolutely broken to find he lacked the proper mindset to do the craft he thought he was the most suited for, but he stayed persistent.

He obsessively tried to gain this understanding by travelling to places of different sacred worship but, of course, fundamentally similar mana rules, and be more open minded beyond his current set of beliefs, he tried to gain complete control of his emotions and toss his trauma aside, and he would not give up even if his emotions were growing more and more unhinged, but a crookedly constructed mind must first be deconstructed in order to be built upright. And so, the second time Xaltair tried to heal a deep cut he created on his leg, he instead broke a bone in it by accident, forcing his travels to end. He still, of course, tried to pursue the path of understanding still, but he and his ethical beliefs were the only walls standing between him and true understanding of light. That and the fact that his brain did not function as well in the day, although he forced himself to control this. And that's what happens when Xaltair stays in one place, both physically and mentally.

Relationships:
Akkara Azurelk (Mother)
Anemos Azurelk (Father)
Alavara (Childhood Friend)
Thysia Crimson(Varan Friend)
Odrinn Velvetier (Varan Friend)
Emrya Scarlet(Varan Friend)

Strengths:
Leadership: Xaltair's independent travels, optimistic attitude, confidence in his abilities, and Odakkai abilities all combined give him the exceptional of leading a group through thick and thin.

Inspirational: This links to leadership, but Xaltair is very good at inspiring a group of people through his words and give them a purpose to go on.

Morally Sound: Xaltair has a clear conscience and is very sure when it comes to making right or wrong decisions, as he has experienced enough darkness to know what to avoid in his actions.

Kind Sense: Xaltair can look into someone's heart and find the good. This doesn't mean he can bring it out, but he can detect instinctively if someone is being sincere by the goodness they hold.

Persistence: Xaltair will not let failure pull him down. He will stand for his cause as long as the cause still stands and as long as the change he sees in an ideal world is still there to be made, even if that means losing the use of a leg.

Skills:

Crystal Flute: In his childhood, Xaltair acquired from his parents the skill to craft a flute from aurora dragon eggshells and is adept at playing it to replenish his mana.

First Aid: From the time Xaltair spent in Haran, he was taught by great healers many a method of bandaging and herbal treatment to the wounded, when he could not master the manipulation of light mana.

Wakeful: Xaltair, being a moonborn who only travels during the day, hasn't been able to completely change his biological nature to be fully aware and awake during the day. However, he has managed to get his body used to being forced awake and therefore can control the demand for sleep much more. If some kind of sleeping spell was to be cast on him, he'd be able to resist it more than the average Odakkai would.

Racial Knowledge: Xaltair has met every race on his broad travels and studied their history, and has therefore been able to understand their social structures, behaviors, and

(ok, tomorrow FOR SURE I'll finish this lol)

Also, yes I believe I should be able to RP the two abilities. The First should be simple to describe as him pushing himself beyond the edge for the sake of his parties future, and while the second would be more complicated, probably involving describing him as an inspiring sight, with some quick affirmation from the other RPers it should be doable.

As for levelling up the abilities, yes they should be.
The second ability can be increased IC by maintaining that the inspiration increases due to him constantly putting his life on the line. OOC it simply increases the buff.
The First ability can be increased IC after repetaded use as he figures out how to fight such deadly bosses and what is required of him throughout the course of such fights. OOC it simply increases his buff

Might I just ask...would you let me modify that image so that he actually LOOKS like an Unarakkai instead of a sun elf? T_T It irks me.

If you can do what you described then I look forward to seeing it in action! Very good :) I'll. Review the full sheet today, just have to go write an exam this morning.

Anyone else in university?

Now, for a proper question. XD Would you like a banner with his name and saying on it? I can make you one. If you would like a reference, you can find Alavra's very unfinished sheet somewhere on page 4.

I would VERY MUCH like that yes. Those things look awesome.
