Alianna leans against the back wall as the rest of the class talks around the refreshment table. Their banter echoes through the large chamber and Alianna hears her name. She looks over to see a plump administrator approach her. He was sweating and the buttons of his uniform torn small rents in its cloth. He pulls out a handkerchief wiping away his weakness and overindulgences. He pulls out an ornate envelope handing it over to Alianna.

“I don’t know what you have on Garath” the man’s voice drops. “But he is dangerous and best avoided.”

“I am not” Alianna’s voice trembles “sleeping with Garath. He is a friend and that is all.”

“Bah” the fat man scoffs “Garath Northdoor has no friends.” She hears the waddle of his thighs rubbing together marking his departure. She opens the envelop and reads the beautiful handwriting.

Recruit Skylark report to Windflurry Manor at your earliest convenience. At the manor, you will meet Amiko Windflurry and escort her to the Arena.

He did it!
She passes the other students getting their envelops. He deserves two games of Bakra when I visit him next, and maybe I will let him win. The hall empties outside and she quickly takes off towards Amiko’s house. She knows its location only through her investigations. She walks past a fruit dealer and purchases a tart. The tart owns up to its name.

Alianna knows this door well; but the inside of Windflurry Home was still a mystery. She pressed the summoning button. After a few moments, the door opens to reveal her savior, Amiko. Alianna does her best to remember every detail to immortalize on canvas.

“Greetings Amiko Windflurry.” Alianna’s voice is steady and firm. “I am your escort to the Arena.”

After a short delay of about ten seconds, a sleepy-sounding voice calls out to Alianna from above. "Oh, you are here already. My appolgies, I'm not quite ready yet. Would you mind waiting inside for me?" As per reasonable deductive reasoning, most would assume that communication was taking place via telepathy; however, this idea is shattered as an Amiko leaps from the roof onto the ground right behind Alianna. Continuing the conversation with a flushed look on her face, "I can let you in now." Amiko places her hand on the door causing it to unlock. From the other side of the door, the humility of her house shines through. While certainly not a cramped space, it didn't have much of anything in terms of decoration. The floors were tile, but you could already see most of the floorspace just from the front door. Alianna can see a kitchen area, the entrance to a bedroom, and a small living area. The living room had just a single U-shaped couch surrounding a handwoven rug. The kitchen seemed equally bare-bones, containing only the essentials like a sink, oven, prep area, stove, and a cold-space hyperdimensional containment unit (CHC, it is basically like a fridge that can hold more than the space it contains). Without the consistent white and purple theme, it might be hard to believe that a girl lived here by herself.

Holding the door open for Alianna, the door shivers slightly under Amiko's unstable grip, "You don't need to take your shoes off, so you can come right in. Would you like anything for the wait?"

Alianna steps within the threshold. The simplicity of the house brings a calm over her. This was no normal manor. Where other families used opulence to overwhelm their guests, the Windflurrys manor felt close to a home.

Before sitting Alianna circles the room marking weaknesses to line of sight and possible breach points.

"No thank you." She sits down. "How long will we have to wait?"

In Alianna's scan for defensibility, she finds that Amiko's home passes the major tenents. While the outside walls were all likely breachable, it would cause collapse, making it ill suited for infiltration. The best breach points were simply entry points, which would force would-be attackers into areas of poor cover compared to those offered by the centre of the house. Amiko looks towards Alianna with eyes that seemed to be a formal apology in and of themselves, "I need to get ready. We can leave right after."

Now that Alianna is comfortable inside without the lighting distracting, she might notice how pale Amiko looks. Although it wasn't uncommon to see white complexion among Spellheart citizens just from the sheer amount of time they spend indoors, she looked particularly pale to the point of being sickly. Alianna only didn't notice up to this point because Amiko hardly seemed sick at all. The way Amiko moved seemed practiced, like a princess. Every step seemed to hold some sort of grand purpose, yet they remained minimalistic as to avoid calling attention to themselves. Both her movement and words carried with them a grace that could hardly be expected of a military track mage.

She watches Amiko from the corner of her eye. Taunt bands of anxiety wrap around her chest. Alianna cannot help but marvel at Amiko’s beauty and grace. The sea glass delicacy of Amiko’s bearing clashed with Alianna’s expectations for her savior. There was no doubt that Amiko was the girl that jumped through the skyhole to catch Alianna. It was the eyes, a gemlike purple, that confirmed that Amiko was that girl. No other person fitting her description resided in Spellheart.

“Take your time.” Alianna says as she struggles to remain stoic.

Amiko gives a short bow to Alianna before exiting into her room. Shutting the door behind her, she leaves Alianna completely alone. For a few minutes, all Alianna can hear is the distant sound of Amiko's shower. When Amiko comes out, you find her in a rather simple white dress with a large bow design across her hips that trailed down to cover her butt. The design as a whole seems completely pedestrian. Aside from the fact that it seemed secure on her body, it seemed like it wouldn't provide her much protection at all in a combat situation. Her pale complexion shifted to a much healthier color and she no longer had a slight tremor in her hands. Addressing Alianna, "If I may ask, what made you think to come early? I might have caused us to be late if you hadn't had the foresight."

Her voice takes on a gruff mocking tone. “It's better to be early than late.” She resumes in her normal tones. “That what all my instructors tell me.” She makes a point to look Amiko up and down. “Those clothes cannot help much in the coming trials.” She waves at her own gi. “I have an extra gi in my bag if you need.”

Amiko smiles a bit, laughing to herself for a short while. Although she tried her best to convey that she wasn't belittling Alianna, it couldn't be helped if she took it that way. Amiko takes Alianna by the hand, directing her towards the door as she explains, "I think that those clothes are great for a battlefield, but in the arena, you have to fight on more than one front. You fight one battle for your opponents, and another for the spectators. I can't afford to lose either." As Amiko opens the door with her free hand, Alianna might notice, Amiko's hand is unnaturally cold, so cold that a person with any amount of sense would be shivering right now. Yet she continues the conversation as though nothing were wrong at all, "But, it looks like your instructors trained you well. They have a lot to be proud of. I hope they are around to watch the fight." Smiling brightly, "All the instructors always have a big fight over who gets the day off whenever the latest batch of students completes their exams." Appending with a giggle, Amiko starts to let go of Alianna, "But I guess I'm rambling now."
