The new arrivals complicated matters significantly, as the jagged form of one of the alien craft cut the sky near overhead, shapes descending from its underbelly.
The first of these slammed down on the rooftops on one side of the avenue, curled to brace against the impact, then lifting on double jointed legs. Roughly human in size, the alien figures moved with surprising grace, their armored shells shrugging off the impact debris with contempt, featureless heads swiveling around. More arrivals slammed down to the streets below, kicking up shattered pieces of the street and sidewalks as they blasted small impact craters beneath their feet. One after another, twice at once, thrice at once. The numbers kept rising, first a dozen, then two, then four.
When the rain of forms ceased, there were eight dozen of the unknown entities. Unknown quickly became evident of armed, as panels on the forearms opened, the barrels of unknown weaponry extruding. On those mounted on the rooftop, this included long cannons that rose from one shoulder, to then descend to face forward.
Silence initially heralded their arrival.
