Zara's Park Tournament

The Park is in a great bustle as a new batch of trainers arrived onto the park via plane, boat and helicopter. The latest and last batch of trainers had arrived on Zara's Park, much to Prof. Zizi's delight. Finally the 100 teams have all arrived and were about to be sent off on their task to be Zara's Park's first Tournament Champion. Upon arriving the Trainers are frisked and patted down for illegal and restricted items. They are then given their own customary Gear Roster as well as the standard Participant's Status. The Pokemon they brought were registered to the Park's own system and after a brief rundown of the tournament and park rules, they were sent off their way. After the Trainers were off their transportation, a holographic recording appears on the Gear Roster done by the park manager herself. Professor Zizi is wearing her professor's outfit and standing in front of a map of the park, with the route marked out.

"Hello and Welcome to Zara's Park." She starts off. "You are the fourth and last batch of visitors arriving on the island and as such you have a bit of a late start, but do not worry! We have rules against stronger Trainers picking on weaker ones. Now you have joined Zara's Park's first Tournament for the chance to earn the title of Tournament Champion or earn a grand prize of 5 million cash! Perhaps both, or perhaps neither. It doesn't matter, as long as you're here for fun. Remember, the real reward's in the journey, not the destination." The Gear then zooms into the map. "Now here is your route through the park. Through this route you shall travel through all the biomes of the park, and meet many amazing pokemon, battle many trainers and have access to all the Park's amenities. Now your first destination will be Nomad's Plain and the settlement of Newman Town. Now gear up, find your partners and have a wonderful time Trainers. Good luck and good fortune!" On both your Gear Rosters, a 23 showed up along with an arrow leading you to your partner.

Melissa Ketchum looked around as she and the others as the professor appeared before them and welcomed them the park. It was going to be nice to get away from her hectic life elsewhere. She was tired of being on the run. Her Pikachu looked around from her shoulder brightly. This was going to be interesting. Her next goal was to find her partner and grab her gear. She followed the arrow to her partner. She would have to keep exactly who she was a secret, as usual. No one wanted to be around a Rocket member, even if that membership was long ago.

Jacob looked around, the arrow on his ear roster spinning with him as he looked for his new partner. He was kind of iffy on the whole ‘Partner’ deal, having thought he would have been able to just do his own thing, but he supposed he’d see how it went before ditching them.

Beside him were Jason and Anna, the Mightyena trotting around happily smelling at every passing anything, while the Tsareena simply strode forth with an almost scary amount of confidence and superiority in her stride, her green hair-like appendages bobbing with every step.

Eventually he spotted her, standing mostly alone and with the arrow pointing right at her. Walking forward, he raises a hand in greeting. “Yo. Name’s Jacob. Seems we’re gonna be partners. This is Jason,” he gestures towards the Mightyena, who was barely restraining himself from sniffing at the Pikatchu, “And this is Annabelle.” His other hand motions in the direction of the Tsareena, who crossed her arms and looked away from the woman in silent contempt.

A nearby pair were having small chat with each other when their Gear Roster beeped, telling them that they were allowed to leave the Faireground and enter Nomad's Plains. They were team number 16. Ten minutes later, another pair, team 17. Ten minutes later, team 18. Another ten minutes, team 19. Team 20. Team 21. Team 22.....

"Melissa." Said Melissa, smiling at Jacob and his Mightyena. "It's nice to meet you." Despite her smile, she was tense. She hadn't been truly relaxed since the day she ran from Team Rocket. But this would still be a nice break from being on the run. She extended her hand in greeting, though she wondered what was up with the Tsareena named Annabelle. Was it her, or did Annabelle not like anyone.

Jacob takes her hand in a firm grip, grinning. “Lets win this thing, yeah?” He says after releasing her. “I’m not really one for teamwork, so i’m just gonna try and head out now. If you need to shop, just catch up with me. I’m pretty sure the beginner area will be pretty easy, since... well, it’s the beginning.” He tells her as he spins on his heels and begins to walk his way over towards the direction of the exit.

Beside him, Jason trotted happily as he looked up at his trainer, tongue lolling as his tail wagged. The Mightyena wasn’t like most of its species, and actively showed just how clingy he was at all times. It was a far cry from Anna, who ever since her evolution had become far better at hiding her emotions under a veneer of hostility. Said Tsareena walked in his other side, powerful legs keeping pace.

"Yeah, let's," said Melissa. She was unprepared for the brusqueness of his reply as he turned suddenly away. So much so that it took her a moment to check her bag to see if she actually needed anything right now. But she was good on potions and other supplies and she rushed to catch up. She wasn't much of a team player herself, but that was alright. At least, as long as he never found out who she was. People had rather interesting reactions to the small snippets of her past, but it changed any kind of relationship forever. But she noticed the differences between the energies of Jacob's Pokemon. The obvious clinginess of the male Mightyena. The female more aggressive. Her own Pikachu rode happily on her shoulder and she had one single Pokeball clipped to her belt. Normally she had six, and she felt a bit naked without the rest of her team, but this was a special occasion.

As the number 23 appeared above the entrance to the plains, Jacob steps through. Instantly it was like another world was stretching before him, miles upon miles of plains as far as the eye could see. He could feel his smile growing large as Jason ran ahead, smelling and rolling though the fresh grass. By his side, Anna simply huffed at her teammates antics, before reaching up to grab the leg of Jacob, who smiles down at her and pats her head.

He looks around, spotting Melissa behind him and giving her a grin, but not saying anything as he makes his way out into the plains proper, breathing in the air as he leaves the Fairegrounds in the distance. Once far enough away, he claps his hands. “Right! Lets see what we find!”

Melissa was right on Jacob's heels. She smiled broadly at the stretching plains. This was what she'd been needing. A break from the life she'd been leading previously. A chance to forget, if only for a while, what and who she was. What she was running from. She was still on the alert. That would never stop. But for now, she could pretend she was someone other than herself.

Around 30 minutes in, the plains were relatively quiet. The two caught glimpses of Pokemon before they ran back into the tall grass, preventing the two from having any chance to even battle them. That changed when the pair comes across a herd of Ponyta and Rapidash. The pokemon were on the move, walking in formation at a rather fast pace. The alpha Rapidash, the stallion was at the front with its lead mate right behind, along with two Ponytas, and behind them the second female and her single foal and finally the third female, walking far behind the main herd trying to get her foal to keep up, a Ponyta with blue flames, unlike the orange flames of her mother and the other Rapidash and Ponyta. The Ponyta stumbles around, frequently falling and tripping trying to keep up with it's mother.

You have encountered 4 Rapidash and 4 Ponyta.

Melissa looked up, her eyes sparkling. She wanted to catch the rare shiny Ponyta. But that would be a bad idea. It would be against park rules, and she'd tried to stay on the straight and narrow since running from Team Rocket. It wasn't easy. Some habits were hard to break. But she noticed something wrong with the little Ponyta. She wondered if the Ponyta was injured. If it was, there was not much she could do without catching it. Wild Pokemon didn't always take kindly to human interference.

“It may be a newborn. They’re often a little clumsy to start off with, but... if not, there could be something wrong. Either way, it’s a shiny ponyta. I at least want to get closer.” Is all Jacob days as he spots the shiny Ponyta, Park ball practically materialising in his hand he approaches the two lagging behind the heard, angling to cut them off.

Jason lets out a snarl as he slinks into the tall grass, circling around to cut off any escape as Jacob recalls Anna. The grass Pokémon would have been in danger against two fire types, and he couldn’t do that to his girl.

Carefully, he approaches the mother and child, keeping his Park ball hidden.

Melissa approached cautiously as well. She noted that Jason had a Park Ball, and she had to wonder if he had Safari status at the moment. If not, then Jacob could be poaching. She kept a careful eye on Jason, if only to make sure he didn't spook the wild Pokemon. They'd only just arrived at the park. Was that really enough time to get an OK for catching Pokemon?

The herd continued for a while longer until finally stopped in a small berry patch. The stallion keeps watch as the females and the foals steps in to graze. The only mother and foal pair that hasn't eaten yet is the female with the shiny ponyta, the two being still a bit off from the main herd due to the stumbling foal. Unknown to the herd, a pair of trainers were closing in from downwind meaning the Stallion hadn't spotted the trainers yet.

Jacob increased his pace and, at his signal, Jason stepped out of the bush. A large pink heart appeared in front of the Mightyena as it sailed towards the mother rapidash, even as Jacob approached the stumbling ponyta.

“Hey... hey, it’s okay.” He murmurs to it as it notices him after falling for another time. Carefully reaching into his pack, Jacob pulls out a small potion he had held onto. “I’m just gonna try and see what’s wrong with you. A foal like you shouldn’t be stumbling like that.” He continues, very aware of the mother not a few metres from his crouched form.

Melissa watched from a safe distance. She was close enough to help if it was needed, but far enough away to hopefully not make the mother foal pair any more nervous than they needed to be. Her Pikachu jumped down from her shoulder and ran up to the pair, and began talking to them in the language of Pokemon. So she was saying "Pika, pika," a lot. Melissa smiled.

The Stallion couldn't smell the pair, but it wasn't blind. The mother was too infatuated with the Mightyena to notice the strange approaching its child, but the stallion could see them quite clearly. It became furious at the interlopers and surrounds its body in flames and charges straight at the trainer and the Mightyena with greater speed then it should be capable of. It gave the pokemon no time to react as it Flame Charges straight into the Mightyena with full force, throwing it a good distance.

“Jason!” Jacob cries out in a panic for his Mightyena, who hit the earth on all fours and left a groove in the grass where his claws pierced the dirt. A growl tumbled from the Mightyena as it narrowed its eyes towards the stallion, the mother too busy making eyes at him to bother attacking.

Letting out a sigh of relief, Jacob bunkers down behind the fallen Ponyta, trying to both find what was wrong as well as direct Jason. “You can’t outrun it! Use double team, then shadow ball!” He commands.

Instantly Jason’s body began to blur as two, then four, then eight other Mightyena appear, all looking towards the stallion. Each image opens its mouth and a ball of crackling purple energy appears between its maw, launching towards the stallion at breakneck pace.

The Stallion stopped its charge and when the flames blew out, it found itself surrounded by a little under ten opponents. Were these its packmates? Either way, it thought it needed to face multiple opponents and needed to adjust its strategy accordingly. When the Mightyenas fire off their shadow balls, the Stallion quickly jumps into the sky, dodging the attacks and immediately sets itself ablaze with swirling flames. It came crashing down, slamming into the earth with great force and unleashing an Inferno in every direction to hit the pack all at once. It was rather clear that this Stallion Rapidash was a veteran of many battles, possible with rivals and predators.

When the trainer approached the Ponyta, the pokemon wasn't sure what was going on. Was it an enemy? A friend? Better safe then sorry it thought and blue embers flew from its flames, attempting to deter the trainer from getting closer. However since the trainer was close enough, it seemed that just on apperances along the Ponyta wasn't hurt, at least it didn't have any open cuts or wounds that is. It didn't seem to be in pain or distress. It was more nervous about the trainer then anything.

A wave of darkness met the inferno, the two abilities clashing with each other and cancelling one another out as Jason sends out a wave of Dark Pulse. Growling, the Mightyena slinks off and disappears into the tall grass. His Quick Feet allowed him to race alongside his mirror images at a breakneck pace. Halting when he was to the right of the rapidash, another volley of shadowballs is sent towards the Stallion.

“Hey, hey, it’s okay.” Jacob tries to soothe the Ponyta, having not found anything wrong with it. Perhaps it was simply an extremely newborn? But not even they should be that bad at running. It was certainly confusing. Putting his potion away, he slowly approaches, keeping out of the way of its mouth or mane.
