Maple replied quickly to his statement, she had another thing she wanted to say, but it would have been too hard to explain. Well, that’s the result of being around a omniscient friend. The woman was smart sure, but sometimes, Kit’s ramblings went on for too long..

Well, considering she had more experience of this stuff, she really should be less confused. Damm her headache.

So their (well, not hers, she was barged in) mission was to find an ancient portal, but for what exactly?
“This mission is to find an ancient portal. I’m sorry, if I’m intruding into confidential information, but what exactly will this team do with it?”

There, she believed that she phrased herself correctly, unlike that girl over there, who came off as rather egotistical and rude. Sure, she has a good motive, but she should be polite about it, in the woman’s view.

"And the reason you decide to bring this up only just now is because...?" Remy was not liking this, not one bit. Artorius had deceived them, whether for a good reason or not, and one of the many things Remy hated was to be deceived. "I really couldn't care less that you decided to take a little detour, but at the very least you could have hinted at such. We're still "on a mission" and "still exploring," but are we in the ruins? No."

Remy crossed his arms, weight shifting to one hip as he did so. "I want to know what the Hell kind of portal it is we're looking for, and why it was worth keeping it a secret from everyone. I'm sure the Office for Defense of Multiversal Assets would love to hear about this."

"Information is a powerful tool," Artorius said, looking unperturbed by the accusations that he was keeping secrets. "Those with access to it have an obligation to keep it in the right hands. The scope of this mission being larger than you expected is not so much a secret, but a simple detail that was irrelevant to your joining. We are still relatively in the same amount of danger as before, perhaps even less so now that we have passed what took Seres from us."

"I think... Artorius is right," Sorey said cautiously. "The situation is pretty much the same, though I'm unsure now if we're looking for something specific or not..."

"Allow me to clear up some misinformation," Artorius said. "The ancient portal I spoke of was the one we just found. In that case, we have found it for the Coalition. The first part of our mission was a resounding success. From here, there is a specific location we must find... not another universe. but something resides only here in the space between dimensions." Artorius then narrowed his eyes on Remy. "There is very little the Office for Defense of Multiversal Assets is not already aware of when it comes to the Coalition. It is they who regulate us, after all."

"And, of course, ODMA has already been informed of the portal's location," said a new voice, who was coming in from behind the group. Turning, they saw an elderly man with yellow eyes, bald but sporting a goatee.

"Oh, Commander Xehanort!" Sorey said in surprise.

"Glad to see you are all well, though it pains me to know what has befallen Artorius' friend."

Artorius nodded, not seeming to acknowledge the comment on Seres' death. "If anyone was worried about the dangers of this place, I have called in reinforcements. However, to answer your earlier question, I do not believe anything lives within this place. Nothing surely could live here."

Will was more than familiar with places like these. In her tenure as Guardian of The Infinite Dimensions, she had led her team W.I.T.C.H. across different timelines and worlds, battling evil in wherever and whatever form it took. Gods, demons, monsters, humans, dragons and all the forces of darkness stood no chance against their combined might.

And yet, in this isolated world, Will would find no peace in the serene beauty. The Keeper had been focused on one thing, and one thing alone.

Eliminating The Malevolence, whatever form it took.

Even if it used up all of her godly powers, she would be determined to smite it clear and free the planet of Ash from what appeared to be an endless cyle of death and misery. Will stepped forwards and moved to stop Artorious, wanting to question just who he was and what he wanted.

"Whatever your mission is, you need to come clean to me. If you want me to follow you, there can't be anymore secrets."

Schala sighed in relief at Artorius's reassureance that nothing was living here. Although, she still couldn't shake the feeling that this notion might be wrong.

To put her mind off of her wories for now, she gave a brief glance at the new member of their group before she cleared her throat quietly.

"Where do we start exploring?" She asked, a little overwhelmed by their surroundings.

It didn't seem like there was anything of note right off the bat, but surely they would have a starting point somewhere, right?

"Waaaait!"

From behind Xehanort came a girl, yelling for the group to hold on. Behind her were three other women, all looking rather different than each other. The first girl stepped up next to Xehanort, wielding what appeared to be a bo staff.

"Leia Rolando, reporting for duty!" she said exuberantly.

Sorey looked just as surprised to see this girl as he was Xehanort. "Leia? Wow, are you sure you're okay to be up?"

"Yeah, of course!" the girl declared. "Jude said I was totally free to as I please! Er, just, please don't mention to him specifically what I'm doing..."

Behind her came an older woman with frizzy orange hair, sporting a less-than-fashionable outfit.

"Hello, everyone!" exclaimed the woman with a big grin. "So good to see all of you! For those who don't know me already, you can just call me Miss Frizzle. Are we having a good field trip?"

Then, the third girl came up to them, moving a bit nervously.

These surroundings weren't at all a shock to Dlanor just because it happened to be a place in-between dimensions, but it was more of the fact that there was no prior knowledge of this place to either the Great Court or even the Metaworld for that matter. That didn't mean she was completely out of this mission, because they only scratched off the tip of the iceberg.

❝ ACKNOWLEDGED. What else shall I know before we further search the parameters? ❞ Dlanor spoke with a dull voice, most likely asking this before she would go off to do what this mission asked of them. It was only natural for her.

"Well, I suppose it would do decently well to have more of the Coalition down here, if Mr. Xehanort thinks it necessary, but do be careful, alright? We've... had unfortunate run-ins in these ruins; malevolence runs rampant here, that's for sure," Alisha said, her expression quickly shifting from welcoming to somber, the sting of Seres's fate still weighing on her mind.

If the extra four additions of Xehanort, Komaru, Ms. Frizzle, and Leia weren't enough though, it seemed that there was just one more tag-along in the form of an unkempt, bespectacled girl, running from behind and stopping beside Komaru, breathing heavily for a moment.

"Jeez... Wait up a little, won't you?! How did even Umaru get past me? You'd think with those udders of hers, it'd hurt her back to move at all," the girl grunted in an irritable manner, willfully jabbing at Komaru, seeming to get her name wrong on purpose for some reason.

"Aha... You're joining us too?" Alisha said, letting off a mildly discomforted laugh, "You were at the outpost with Ms. Naegi, weren't you? Erm... What was your name again?"

"Toko Fukawa, Ultimate Writing Prodigy. Just here to m-make sure Umaru here doesn't do anything dumb, if her brother's a good point of reference," she grunted.

"Toko!"
Komaru yelled, her face reddening. "Please don't talk like that in front of my brother's friends!" She looked around at the others, waving her hand and laughing nervously. "Don't mind her, she has such a vivid imagination! She's a writer, after all!"

"A writer?" asked Ms. Frizzle. "That's wonderful! You really should show me some of your writing!"

"Oh, Mikleo!" Sorey said, grabbing Mikleo's hand and pulling him closer to Ms. Frizzle. "Mikleo's a great writer! He's even writing a novel about our adventures!"

Mikeo started looking about as embarrassed as Komaru. "S-Sorey, it's not even completed..."

Artorius did not seem too pleased by the chatter. "We've spent enough time here," he said, turning around and started to walk away. "Though we do not know specifically where we must go, I believe the nature of this place will have us find it before long."

"Then lead the way," Xehanort said.

Though Artorius' chosen direction seemed random, perhaps there was some merit to what he had said with all the various pathways looking just about the same as the other. It seemed easy to get lost in here, however, despite whatever Artorius said. When they had finally walked so far that the portal they came in from was no longer able to be seen, the group heard strange sounds coming up from above. Artorius looked upward out of confusion, only to see a very strange sight indeed.

Strange creatures were falling down from above, looking both disgusting and deadly. Artorius quickly took out his sword. "Perhaps I was wrong about nothing living here!" he exclaimed.

Nathan Drake

Nathan had been so busy sketching once again everything that he had just seen that he had kind of missed the murder of the dragon and the arrival of the three women and only looked up when he saw the ugly thing. " Well.... then," he said, loading up his gun and shooting the creature in its mouth? Hopefully, it wouldn't take more than one bullet, he hadn't expected to be fighting ugly monsters and hadn't stocked up on a lot of bullets.

Will ignited her hands and blasted the first wave away with bolts of Quintessence in an instant before they had the chance to get the drop on anybody. This Artorious perosn seemed to lack proper ledership skills, much less proper communication skills. The Keeper wondered how long this lunacy would last before they were through. Maybe staying back hadn't been such a bad idea after all.

Schala smiled, seeing the extra backup they got... Although there weren't many agents actively available, any additional help would most certainly benefit her.

Unfortunately, this moment was cut short by a horde of strange... Fleshy creatures. Wincing, she raised her hands, preparing to cast an area of effect fire spell.

"Get down!" She shouted, hoping to avoid (literal) friendly fire.

"W-Well, they're alright. Just mostly romance novels, i-if you're into that kind of stuff..." Toko shyly mumbled, as though Ms. Frizzle held some sort of strangely benevolent aura that made even someone as unruly as Toko feel inclined to be some sort of polite to her (though she less than subtly ignored the exorcists who later spoke).

As the group ventured further into the ruins, only to be met with disgusting creatures that seemed less than friendly, Alisha narrowed her eyes, stepping forward and once again clutching her lance.

"Anyone who can't fight, stay back! This'll get messy! Blazing Stars!" She exclaimed, before thrusting her weapon forward right at the little creatures with staggering speeds with the intent of stabbing through them and then just as quickly pulling them off, able to show off her skill with the lance, hoping to keep them all at bay!

"Ugh." Remy sneered at the creatures, his mood completely soured. In under five minutes, their number had doubled, and now filthy little creatures were running around? What a goddamn pain. Now just to wait for these things to get beat up by everyone else since they all had magical powers or whatever. At least with some of those in the group painfully desperate to play the hero, it saved him doing any work.

He did take a bit of pleasure in the fact that he at least annoyed Artorius with his ODMA comment. A little payback for annoying Remy.

Maple knew she was in a long ride as soon as all the new people appeared. More people to burden them, great. And she checked her surroundings, while placing her hand on her gun. When someone says there’s nothing in a discordant area like this, Maple sweared that it was like a calling noise...

And, she was right!

“Ah! Careful! It’s obvious they are hostile.”
And like it was out of nowhere, Maple pulled out a gun, a really old one in fact, and aimed it at one of the head crabs. The gun looked worn, due to it being those ones that someone would see in the Wild West.

Maple aimed it at one of those things and fired.

Needless to say, the strength of the group as a whole was rather unsurmountable, at least compared to the creatures attacking them. The creatures' only real strength was their numbers, but with the group having increased in size recently, they had no lack of able bodies to fight. The fight was over almost as quickly as it began, with Artorius shaking his head at the filthy mess the creatures' corpses left around them. "Those creatures are not native to this space," he said.

"Ah, but I would hazard a guess that they are from a place not unlike this one!" Ms. Frizzle said, chiming in. "Everyone, these were a parasitic species once encountered by the United Federation. Would that make this the illusive collapsed space?"

"Indeed," Xehanort replied, stroking his goatee. "This space is the origin of interdimensional travel, such as what your school bus uses. They came to call it the Collapsed Space. A spacefaring ship arrived in this space once upon a time, and from there eventually developed the algorithms in which the Coalition and all others use. That's not all, even."

Artorius turned to Xehanort. "As this space connects all of the multiverse, think of it like the roots that make up all that we know... or perhaps, the veins. There are areas where the borders between dimensions weaken or fluctuate on occasion. The ruins we found was one such area, allowing the inhabitants to create the portal we used. In fact, Ash is a common place for interdimensional fluctuations, resulting in many of its inhabitants to be brought across the multiverse on random portals."

wgmEAg9.png

"So, you're saying individuals pass through this place when they come through a portal," Mikleo said.

Artorius nodded. "Indeed they do. The research the Coalition has put into this place tells us this. That is why an increased amount of malevolence leaking into this place would result in abnormalities in areas like Ash. Malevolence builds up in the areas where the borders are weak... as you saw when we opened the floodgates on the malevolence that had built up at the ruins portal."

Dx15wJg.png

"This all sounds rather... important," Leia said, sounding confused. "Shouldn't this be common knowledge for Coalition members?!"

"It is," said Xehanort, "if any cared to do research. Up until now, we had no reliable entrance to the collapsed space, but now it seems we have one."

"You know, isn't it kind of weird to call this place the veins of the multiverse?" Sorey said.

"Perhaps," Artorius replied, "but soon you'll see the significance of the name. Come, I believe I know where we must go now."

Artorius led the way once more, but this time with a sense of purpose he did not have before. It seemed impossible to know where anything was here with everything looking the same, but soon enough, the group saw something on the horizon. As they got closer, it seemed to evidently be a large set of doors.

9V4EnpG.png

"... Is this another portal?" Sorey asked.

"No," said Artorius. "This is the Heart of the Multiverse, and it is our final destination."

@Lucky @Hahli Nuva @Ver @Jeremi @Takumi @Yun Lee @Gummi Bunnies @York @MelodyMeister

...okay. Remy really wasn't sure what to do with all of this information. Collapsed space? Leaks of Malevolence? It didn't seem to really be his area of expertise.

...what was his area of expertise, anyway? He didn't have one yet. Maybe he could figure it out after this mission. Speaking of...

"Do we just...go in?"

The Heart of Kandrakar pulsed in Will's chest, alerting her that yes, what the man said was true. In all of her travels across the multiverse, she had yet to come across something like this. Will surmised that the development of her powers came above all else and as such Himerish decided to hold back on secrets like this until he felt that she was ready.

Needless to say, Will had more than been prepared. She scanned the surrounding area for signs of life. The sheer amount of Malevolence must have clouded her power, because The Heart was unable to pick up signs of life besides the group she was in.

Odd.

"The heart of the multiverse... I feel like I've been here before. But... it didn't look like this."

@Atomic Knight @Gummi Bunnies @Ver @Takumi @York @Lucky @MelodyMeister @Jeremi @Yun Lee

Remy's efforts were for naught, as the door would not open manually in any way.

"You are not capable of opening the door, not the way you are," Artorius said. "No, what this door requires is seven certain individuals. Those who are free of malevolence."

"Free of... wait a second," Sorey said, looking around at the others.

"Of course, who is free of malevolence and who isn't fluctuates all the time, and there are far more than seven out there in the multiverse. A certain incident clued us into this when we learned of something called... hearts of light. An improper term, unfortunately."

The door before them suddenly began to open. All that could be seen beyond was a wall of pure light.

"We, of course, have seven of those individuals with us. Once you see what is beyond the door, you will learn why it has this condition."
