NetherMyth

Novella Enthusiast

Deep in the heart of a large and bustling yet unspecified city, lays a popular - yet especially exclusive - nightclub that caters only to certain persons. Difficult to gain entrance, or even get past the bouncers who stick to a strict guest list and monitor all entry points at all times, it's impossible to know what goes on inside unless someone gets you in. As a result, only mischievous teenagers tend to attempt unauthorized entrance and usually end up back on the street before they get more than a few feet inside. But occasionally, a friendly patron will let someone in as a guest. Those lucky few are privileged enough to see a world within a world; one that caters strictly to those born to Magick. The patrons within are almost exclusively, either a Witch or a Familiar. Though not uncommon in the outside world, Magick-folk are still treated rather poorly by non-Magick folk and some families have even been known to disown their Magick-borne children. Much like Familiar World, there are several gathering places across the globe that act as a safe haven for these persons - but Familiar World is by far the most prominent and well-known in this particular region.

Chloe § Unbound Familiar § Lively
She stared out the little window to the drizzling rain, a vacant look in her beady eyes as the droplets left streaks on the glass and blurred her vision. Sharp claws clicked on the smooth countertop a moment later as she nosed the empty rocks glass towards the stack of dishes steadily growing at the end of the dark surface. "Thanks Cookie!" The half-drunk patron praised, as he reached out to stroke the pale ferret's head and back. She briefly pretended to be offended by the contact and flipped her head to nip at the offending fingers, but everyone knew how much she actually enjoyed the gesture and the fingers moved to scratch under her raised chin instead. Her head bobbed with the asymmetric movement and her dark eyes began to shut, but a rumble of thunder and the yelp of another patron pulled her back to focus and the ferret pulled free of the caress. With a twist of her lithe body around the slick glass, she jerked sideways and sent it careening the rest of the way across the counter, before she turned and scampered across the counter to fetch an abandoned appetizer plate left farther down as another drink was set before the previous patron.

"Come on Tamaki! You need to get out of the apartment!" Yuuna chided as her brother desperately rummaged through his crystal cache. The room they were in was divided between Yuuna's art studio and Tamaki's meditation room. Her side was filled with plants in pots and paintings on easels as well as a large desk with her drawing tablet and computer as well as a notebook and other papers scattered on the surface of the desk. Tamaki threw his hands up in frustration.
"I'm coming, I just want to take my amethyst pendant. It should be here..." He sighed in annoyance while reaching for a teal stone on one of the upper shelves of the large cabinet that held part of his crystal collection. Muttering a small incantation, he turned his eyes to his table. Moving over some papers he found the purple stone, slipping the pendant onto the silver chain around his neck that also held a black and blue stone. He walked out of his area to where Yuuna was waiting, wearing jean shorts and a design-t featuring a cactus graphic. Tamaki glanced out at the window, seeing the growing storm.
"Maybe I should get my hematite crystal... I can already feel a headache coming on." He mumbled as he rubbed his forehead. Yuuna rolled her eyes and grabbed onto Tamaki's poncho, dragging him out of the apartment.
"There's a event going on, I think there's a Libra DJ doing a spell or something, I'm not sure." She commented as the went down the elevator. Their apartment building was only a few blocks away from the club so they walked in the rain, Tamaki grumbling about the dampness.
They both arrived at the entrance and got in line. The club seemed more crowded tonight, perhaps because of the event or perhaps because the rain was driving witches inside.

James Dresden

James caught the glass before it impacted the other dishes, he picked it up and set it in the appropriate dish tray. Tonight was a semi-busy night, a few patrons here and there, tables all over the place filled. James smiled, he liked busy nights, gave him some time to think on cases if need be. But tonight, at least for him, was even better, a thunderstorm was rolling in, which meant once he got off he would have the perfect time to charge up and collect supplies. He could feel the storm coming, but it didn't seem to bother patrons who were still coming in.
His attention was taken however when a drink order had him scrambling to comply.

Esha

She sauntered around the nightclub, her claws clicking across the floor, those that knew her tended to move out of the way, new people didn't know what to make of her, which gave her some hope for maybe finding someone who would want to bond with her, she doubted it, but it gave her hope.
As she sauntered towards the door magic pulled around her, her form changing and growing. By the time she reached the door she was in her human form. She needed some air anyways, one with a sensitive sniffer could only handle so much drunk witch and familiar smell.
She stepped outside and another smell hit her, one of rain and ozone. A thunderstorm, awesome, she always did like a good storm.

Nero § Unbound Witch § Dismal
Nero glared at the dark sky through his bedroom window, behind him and through the heavy wood of his closed door, he could hear the high-pitched squeal of his little sister as she and his older brother - who was currently visiting - argued about something. His little sister was probably practicing her culinary skills and his brother had probably interfered somehow. Meanwhile, on the desk in front of him; a multitude of open textbooks and notebooks were sprawled across the surface, and balanced on the precipice sat a laptop displaying chromatic electronic waves that moved in time with a gentle rhythm that thrummed through the speakers. In his current mood, the waves spiked at irregular intervals and the music distorted with his wavering focus. He was supposed to be going to the Club tonight, but the unexpected arrival of his older brother had meant his parents were unwilling to let him leave. Not that he particularly needed their permission, but he tried not to upset them since he was still living under their roof and taking advantage of their hospitality. He was planning on transferring to a four-year college at the end of the school year and move into a dormitory, but for now, he felt obligated to obey his parents' desires. On top of which, he was also working for them too, delivering potions for his mother and hanging flyers for his father. With a glance towards his door, his gaze settled on the crate of fragile bottles filled with multi-colored liquids and semi-solids. He was supposed to be delivering them to the Club, but had been requested to hold off and have dinner with his family first. Which was proving to take longer than usual since his brother wouldn't leave his sister alone, and his sister had insisted on making dinner herself under the occasion. It was starting to grate on his nerves.

Zinon
Zinon shifted in his seat at the bar, the titanic Russian looking downright comical in the poor stool he was seated upon as he slammed back a shot of whisky. He had to say... he wasn’t a fan of the loud noises of the club, and all the people who he swore kept glancing towards him.

He had been let in pretty swiftly, hopefully because of his reputation and not because of his size, and from there he had been met with nothing but failure. Every time he tried to strike up a conversation the big man had grown too nervous and shy, retreating into the darkness of the club sadly.

So instead he had gone to the bar for some liquid courage. He wasn’t usually a drinker, but when it came down to hit his want to not be alone anymore trumped his dislike for alcohol. His only worry at that point in time was if his wallet could afford to purchase the amount of drinks needed to get a guy his size drunk enough to talk to anyone.

Randa
Randa threw her hands up in the air as she leaped with the crowd to the beat of the DJ, drink in her hands slipping out of her cup and onto the floor. Letting out a mournful cry at her lost nectar, the wild raccoon spirit shifts into her natural form and swiftly makes her way out of the teeming throng.

Reaching the outskirts, the she swiftly shifts back to her human form, panting and smiling happily as she went to a nearby keg and poured herself a new drink, head nodding along to the beat.

This place was great! Witches and familiars as far as the eye could see! Prime material to find a new witch! She just needed to start, you know, searching for a new one. There was probably plenty of witches who would want a servant as good her her!

She just... needed to try and find them, and stop hanging back near the keg.

Yuuna clasped her hands with glee as they entered the club, loving the feeling of the pounding music. She grabbed onto Tamaki’s sleeve and dragged him over to a table.
“Isn’t this place so exciting?” She shouted over the loud music, “You should really get out more.” Her brother just gave her a cheesy grin as he attempted to get up. Maybe he could find a quiet place to try to get rid of his growing anxiety, but his sister didn't let him leave. Eventually she went up to get a drink and head out on the dance floor.
Taking the opportunity to sneak off, he started to rub his blue Howlite pendant, muttering and incantation and sighing as he felt his nerves calm. He looked out onto the dance floor, feeling a bit sulky. It seemed there were others hanging around the edges, no doubt as introverted as he was. At least he wasn't alone in his brooding.
Yuuna bounced up to a bartender and grabbed her wallet.
"What do you have that I can legally drink?" She said with a smirk, "And please don't say water." She hoped that there were some options for her, but she hadn't really looked at the menu so she had no clue what they served. Oh well. She had some spending money from several commissions she had done and she just wanted to have a good time.

This wasn't the first time that Ray Kindman had come to the nightclub and just hung with familiar friends and his honorary family, but this was the first time that he had brought his girlfriend Kamdyn Paige. The sights and sounds of the nightclub were normal for him, but all of this was new to her, the whole thing, from the dancefloor to the commission board to the bar on the side wall, all of it. Including the animals all around, one noticeably standing at a keg of something and pouring itself a drink.

The bar, Familiar World was a lot to take in though, so he gave her plenty of time both outside and inside the club to look around and explore all the wonderful sights, getting used to this new life and a world she had only recently just stepped into. She had asked a few questions which he had answered outside, but when he had gone inside, her questions went unanswered. Mostly because of the fact that his animal mouth wasn't able to speak, and he was too lazy to speak to her through his mind.

Upon entering the nightclub he had easily slipped back into his animal form like a new suit, his perfectly groomed fur looking immaculately and finely combed. Of course, he had planned this as it was his first time back in a long time, especially with a girl. The red-orange fur along his back and over most of his body shining and fading away to the bright white fur on his neck, tail, and feet. He walked by his witches side loyally and full of purpose in the form he was now in, looking most likely as if he was the most beautiful fox in existence. Turning his head over and up to the girl he brought with him he saw the most wonderful mix of emotions on her face.

Weather-Sense: Steady, beating rain and more frequent rumbles of thunder. An occasional flash of lightning in the distance

§ Chloe §
The ferret's spirit began to waver uncertainly as more patrons began to appear, not that she particularly minded the increased business, and it was always great to see old friends, but Event Nights tended to bring out the rowdier crowd. And frankly, she didn't really want to be crawling over broken glass tonight... Her nose twitched unfavorably at a particular patron who planted himself at the bar, nearly falling off the stool in his drunken stupor. It was still early and this guy was already making a fool of himself. Pointedly, she ignored the patron and skittered over to the opposite end of the bar where she was astonished by a rather unique patron and one she definitely didn't recognize. For one he was enormous! And two, he looked incredibly uncomfortable and out of place; an obvious sign that he wasn't a regular. Curiosity driving her, she scuttled to the edge of the bar and stepped off. By the time her feet touched the floor, she was back in her human form and bracing her elbows on the counter space in front of the man. "Hey," She greeted warmly, twisting one of the metal rings in her lip between her teeth as she reached into the space behind the counter and withdrew a plate of appetizers which she set in front of the man. "You're new here, right? Well, I'm Chloe - but everyone calls me Cookie. Are you in town for business, pleasure, or new resident?" She inquired curiously, gaze flicking over to James as if she expected the storm-witch bartender to reprimand her forwardness. Not that she really expected him to, she enjoyed working with James and he seemed pretty distracted tonight; probably due to the building storm outside. She briefly entertained the idea of asking if he wanted a break, but one look at the increasingly obnoxious patron at the other end of the bar and her mind was quickly changed. She didn't want to be left alone with that. In all honesty, she was probably more worried about James yelling at her for so abruptly changing forms. No matter how much the others tried to convince her it was completely fine and no one cared; six years later, she was still expecting someone to start screaming at her. Besides, it was more comfortable in her ferret form; she didn't feel quite so awkward and gangly. After all, it was kind of odd to see a tiny two-foot-long ferret turn into a young lady of over 6 feet tall.

§ Nero §

After about an hour, Nero was finally able to make his escape. Partially because he'd been entertaining the idea of sneaking out his bedroom window to get away from the family drama. But when his mom had walked into his room and found him half-in-and-half-out the two-story window, she'd immediately wrenched him back inside, shoved the crate of potions into his unsuspecting arms, and very nearly shoved him out the front door with a grin on her face. He imagined she was probably wishing she'd been able to escape too, but he didn't want to waste the opportunity she had given him and sprinted down the street as fast as his legs could carry him. For one, he didn't want his mom to change her mind and drag him back inside, and two, the rain had gotten significantly worse and he was well on his way to being drenched. He had little doubt he wouldn't be by the time he traveled the three blocks to the raving club. And he was right; in the ten minutes it took him to get to Familiar World, he was positively soaked. The bouncer took one pitying look at his disheveled appearance and the crate of potions, and ushered him inside without a word. Inside, was another obstacle as he had to duck and dance through the particularly crowded mansion until he got to the packed bar and slapped the crate down with a hefty and relieved gasp. "Got your potions, James!" He announced breathlessly, ignoring the raving patrons that had obviously been cut off from their alcoholic-destination. "Where do you want these ones?" He asked, gaze sweeping over the bar in search of the familiar furry creature who always greeted everyone. He was so used to her spirit form, that he actually overlooked the bus-girl three times before it registered that she wasn't in her spirit form at all. "...Odd..." He muttered, but then realized she was talking to another patron. Of course she'd reverted back to her human form. She wasn't bound to a Witch, she could only hold a conversation in her human form.

James

James had been watching everyone come and go, served a few drink to some regulars, and even a newcomer, a big man that seemed more nervous than he should.
He was gonna make some conversation, but Chloe beat him to the punch. Poor thing, still to this day waiting on a witch that would never come back.
His thoughts were broken when a blue came in and set a box on the counter, Nero, James smiled, "Oh perfect, set it in the back on the empty table, I'll start organizing them a bit later."
"You got time for a drink? Or you running late on deliveries today?" He asked with a smirk.

Yuuna was downing a glass of lemonade, she absolutely couldn't stomach any of the other options. She looked around for anyone she knew. She got up and walked back to the table where she left Tamaki, wanting to drag him along to meet someone, but she found him absent. She furrowed her eyebrows as she looked around for him.

Meanwhile, Tamaki was walking around, looking for someone he might be able to talk to or get to be a client. He wondered how open people were to soliciting here. He needed another client after one prospecting one left after realizing he used crystals. Not looking where he was going, he bumped into someone, and mumbled an apology, looking up to see who it was.

With the night being as rainy as it was, Claudia didn't know whether or not she wanted to head out but in the end she finally forced herself to leave the house despite the weather. She needed to go out in order to keep herself from going house crazy. She had heard about this place, A Familiar World from word of mouth and wanted to see if it was any fun to be in.

Kamdyn was really excited to go with Ray to the nightclub. She has heard him talk about it for awhile since they started dating. She wanted to know his friends, find out who he was before her. Can you blame her? Kamdyn loves the rain. She likes to listen to it while reading and standing in it for hours to gain inspiration for more recipes and books. She followed Ray into the nightclub when he changed form, she knew she was in for a treat when she saw that.
