"It's done, Captain."

Captain Baltair MacAilein sat at his seat on the bridge of his Argo-class Assault Carrier, 'The Venerable Ruby', rubbing his temple with his index and middle finger, eyes closed. Fumirole had been a disaster. Three Spartan casualties based on what he'd heard before being forced to follow the Cole Protocol, and retreat the planet to a set of randomly generated coordinates via slip-space vector. There were several Spartan-III's on-board the Ruby, and he still had a full-fledged army, not to mention his ship had reverse-engineered Covenant tech and was capable of pumping out ammunition, weapons, and vehicles like there was no tomorrow from raw materials, but... the Covenant presence on Fumirole had been far too abundant. The planet was lost, even if Noble Team had managed to destroy one of three Covenant Cruisers that sat above its cities, glassing its surface into a hellish landscape.

"Were we followed?" He asked. The voice that spoke to him spoke again. Disembodied, with strange, ancient, long-forgotten accent. "Yes. One of the Covenant Carriers beat us here."
"And where is 'here'?" The Captain stood, his mouth dry as he stared out of his ship at the planet that sat before them. This was unexplored space, far on the opposite end of the galaxy, as far away from Reach and Earth as he could get. Lush, green land and rich blue waters covered its surface. It wasn't a very common thing for random slip-space trajectories to lead to habitable planets, but this was hardly the first time it had happened, and would surely not be the last. He shuddered at the thought of the Covenant doing something like that, and showing up on the doorstep of Earth.
"I do not know, Captain. Let me infiltrate the Covenant Battlenet and see if they have any clues."
"Do it, Xoco." MacAilein looked toward his left, where an Ensign sat, typing away at a systems computer. "Report, Ensign." He barked.

"All systems read green across the board. We suffered minimal damage on our escape, but the crew is a little shaken up. We left most of our heavy duty equipment back on Fumirole, sir, so we'll need to steer clear of the Covenant Carrier until we can build up a larger aerial force."
"And the Spartans?" The Captain inquired. "Beaten, but alive. Some have been placed into stasis pods until further notice. Should I wake them?"
"Just don't shake 'em." MacAilein replied, returning his attention to the view port, staring at the planet before them. "We'll need to establish a ground presence, hold out for as long as we can until our distress beacon reaches UNSC space."
"Sir." This time, Xoco appeared before the Captain on a holopad that jutted out of the ground to his right, beside his chair. "Go ahead, Xoco." MacAilein nodded.
"The Covenant seem to believe this planet is somehow an important infrastructure, Forerunner in origin. Possibly a weapons cache, or a shield world." She answered. The Smart AI appeared a cool shade of cyan, a decorative, ornamental headdress, rich and beautiful clothing, a dress decorated in jewelry, and a detailed design of face paint over what little bit of her 'skin' showed. AI chose their forms shortly after creation, and Xoco had chosen her visage and name based upon what little of the Aztecs of Earth was known.

"They are referring to it as 'Telira', a Crucible, capable of 'enlightening the path to begin the Great Journey."
MacAilein frowned. "Great Journey? The hell is that?"
"Captain, the Spartans are active and green. Requesting permission to debrief them?" The Ensign interrupted, to which MacAilein shook his head. "No, Ensign. Send them up here. I'll debrief them myself."
He narrowed his eyes, staring at the planet with newfound interest. "This Crucible seems valuable to the Covenant, which means we can't let them have it. Xoco, prep ODST Fireteams to clear a landing zone. We got a lot of work ahead of us."
"Aye aye, sir."

************

This is Telira. A Forerunner outpost in the depths of space. It is a Crucible world, a manufacturer of the Forerunner's most ancient and most deadly means of war, alongside containing some of the most crucial information within its databases. Information on their weapons, ships, tactics... You cannot allow the Covenant to get their hands on this, no matter the cost.

In this roleplay, there will be action, adventure, mystery, world-building, betrayal, ancient threats, and maybe even a little romance along the way. You can choose to be a Spartan or an ODST. If you wish to chose another specialty among the UNSC's 'Venerable Ruby', please let me know. You could be a Crewman, or perhaps an AI to assist Spartans or ODST Fireteams along the way.

As of right now, the Covenant are off-limits. Depending on how far this roleplay gets, an opening for them may appear, though your species may be limited to the Sangheili.
I won't go explaining everything here, though, there needs to be at least some mystery within Telira.
Onto the info!

Your Enemy
The Covenant will quickly amass their forces to counter yours on the planet's surface. While the Ruby will do its best to keep away from their Carrier, you may not always have the support of the Captain and his ship. For operations to continue ground-side, the Ruby must stay active. One of your secondary objectives is to protect it. Another secondary objective is to keep the Covenant from getting what they want out of the Crucible.

The enemy has a fully functional Covenant CAS-class Assault Carrier, designed for ship-to-ship combat, which is not something the Ruby is designed for. You don't have the forces, firepower, or means to take out this powerful vessel, so the best you can do for now is stay clear of it for as long as possible.
The Carrier houses every Covenant species, meaning their tactics against you will be powerful, diverse, and possibly effective, with Grunts taking up the front lines to soak in your fire, with Jackals and Skirmishers to provide defensive and offensive support. Brutes will tear through your defenses, and Elites will dispatch you with stealth and tactics, while Engineers will prove powerful defensive support, leaving the Hunters to deal the heavy damage to your best.
They'll have Ghosts, Wraiths and their variants, Spectres, Choppers, Prowlers, Shadows, Banshees, Vampires, Spirits, Phantoms, Locusts, and quite possibly a few Scarabs.

You cannot allow this to bring us down. You may lack diversity, but your fighting spirit is stronger. Your big green style cannot be defeated. Set up an Alpha Base, outposts, defend your territory and expand. Lead expeditions deeper into the jungles of Telira, and discover the Forerunner infrastructure. Once the Monitor learns you're not his ally, you may gain an enemy in the Forerunner defenses. Monitors are tough are their own, but you'll also have to face Sentinels, Enforcers, and quite possibly more. For now, however, the Covenant will distract them, giving you a larger opportunity and advantage.

Be careful. This ring is even more dangerous than you may initially suspect.

Your Allies
You have the best the UNSC has to offer at your disposal. The Ruby is capable of making a variety of ammo, weapons, and vehicles to assist you in your missions on the planet. You will have a limited supply of infantry, however. Only so many Marines, ODST's, and Spartans are available. With no outside support, the Ruby and her resources are all you have.

Your vehicular support will range from Mongooses, Warthogs and their variants, Scorpions, Wolverines, Kodiaks, Hornets, Falcons, Vultures, Condors, Elephants, and even some untested Mantis prototypes. These vehicles offer a wide array of unique advantages on the battlefield, but ig you come across a Scarab, either infiltrate it and destroy it from the inside, or throw everything you have at it and hope to come out alive.

For now, the Sentinels, Enforcers, and their Monitor will be our ally. This will not last, and we should be prepared for his eventual turn on us.

(Also, for anybody who wants to know, Fumirole is the planet where the original Noble 6 died, and where Kat lost her arm. So this takes place a day after those events, meaning the events of Halo: Reach are still a few months off.)

Alright, that's all, Reclaimers. Stay Green.

(More on the Character Sheet thread, so don't count out just yet)
