Very astute observation my friend. I'm adding a few other features like how difficult opponents can be and the rewards of defeating stronger and weaker foes. Again this will only be for RP purposes, but I think it will enhance the experience.
And on that note, rewards most likely would include NGs from previously killed players. It's about the most important item in the RP, despite its abundance.
They could also drop the Codex and its potion, but that might be too rare to be happening often?
Food or tools is also something. We have to keep in mind what people would normally carry once getting around.

Yes for sure. But I will always determine that stuff. The economy and stuff PCs get their hands on will be tightly controlled. Again, this is all for RP, not inventory management and character min/maxing

It makes more sense in reference to the scene you painted earlier. We PM you to say, I want to murder someone, instead of using the dice to murder someone previously established and set up.

Right. And I'm not saying that's there's no Encounters during story beats, and no rewards for those counters, but those are more controlled and less up to chance. NG will only ever be awarded by me, and the availability of survival boxes will also be at my discretion. I control the economy, and the Murder Encounters give resources more of an impact. That's what I'm going for.

Basically, Gattletowne is trying to prevent individual godmodding. It's not fair for players to control who they kill and what are the rewards. Sure, they can request it, but everything should be considered first by a unbiased pov

I understood the point of it perfectly, and what resulted from its use, it was just the context of when they were used I was hazy on, which I understand now.

If anyone is struggling with character creation, I have a suggestion. Write a backstory for your character that only you know. Get all the personality stuff and motivations down. Then just make them not be able to remember it. That should help you get down basic personality traits you want to work with.

I think the hardest part of creating the character is less of not having a background, and more of just not having information about the setting/era. At least that's what is giving me trouble. And writing a backstory would kind of require knowledge about the setting the characters can't remember. Now, I'm not saying to give us more information about the world, that would spoil the mystery, but one thing that might help is if you let us know what kind of abilities might be available to our characters, or what races we could be. For example, I'm not sure if a martian robotics engineer would fly in this plot (just hypothetical, I'm not planning on playing a martian robotics expert lol, but I can't give up my character yet now can I?)

If you think giving us this info would shed too much light on the world though, just don't risk it. I'd rather go into this RP in the dark. In that case we should just PM you with what each of us are thinking. I'll do this once I finish my possible character up and you can let me know

As far as I can tell, these people all are bound to the skill sets are are achievable by that of a normal human. Thus, human is the only race you can be, and magic etc doesnt exist. Think modern abilities.

All valid concerns, and you answered all of your own questions. I'm going for an authentic fish-out-of-water experience. You're character has no past, remembers nothing, and is thrust into an insane situation. The best way to get the best RP out of you is for you to be just as in the dark as they are. You don't see other character sheets, only images and a quote. The era is purposefully left ambiguous. I mentioned somewhere in the OOC that some technology is implied. When you first awake, you see a CRT monitor suspended above you. It recites the paragraph that opens the OOC in a feminine, robotic voice.

That doesn't mean someone is going to be an ex-capital ship pilot. This for sure isn't scf-fi. But I think the ambiguity of the setting and era coupled with the violent overtones make for a truly sinister feel that will be cool to play with in RP. That does not mean murder porn. Just because there's lots of death doesn't mean there aren't ways of describing it that won't scar or disgust everyone. I just think an interesting story is to be had here, and I think this might be a fun way to find it.

Here is what I intended to reply to @Incognus with:

This is modern-esque, but there's going to be plenty of shit going on that could very well be interpreted as 'magic.' I mentioned, answering another post, that magic is more "occulty" and less "high fantasy," but at the end of the day this is fantasy. I'll do some hand-waving for convenience sake, but there going to be some witchy shit going on from time to time.

I'm going to be honest, I got my character by taking one I like from a book, stripping the backstory, and adding my own personal twist onto him to call my own. I'm not going to be the original one here. Props if you can guess the character and book.

Really cool approach. I think anyone struggling with character creation should give this a try.

@Gattletowne
How many players are you looking to add before getting started? I have to admit I'm kind of anxious to get going, it looks like it will be a good RP! I don't want to cut anyone off though who are making characters and want to join, just wondering what the time frame might be

I've been thinking relatively soon. I feel I might have scared off a few of my early interested RPers who didn't know what this was going to be.

I wasn't sure entirely myself. It's been evolving since I pitched the idea. I'm also very interested to see how well the Murder Encounters system will work. If it will add the elements I want it to or if it's just going to bog the RP down. I might put out feelers for people still wanting to stick with it. I'll let you better know the time frame soon

It sounds intriguing though. I'll be willing to take the risk :)

This is a general post for those who expressed some interest in the Murder City RP. I think we're about to start, so please let me know if you're still on board.

I realize that this may have not turned out what you expected, and that's ok. If this RP is too dark for your taste, I totally understand. No hard feelings. If you're still on board, I've added several tabs to help you navigate Murder City a little easier. I welcome questions.

This is not combat RP and there's is no PvP. The system I set up for Murder Encounters is only there as a tool for interesting RP. This is still centered around getting a good story out of everyone. And I've got some fun ideas in store for all you new bloods out there.

Hope you'll join us!
