[OOC] Endurn: Heart of the Alauum

Can you clarify the Mage of Dark's Syphon ability? Not really sure what you mean by, "at the risk of losing part of one’s own elements (life, etc.) into the void."

Also the Almiun can walk on land right?

So, each creature has the ability to harness all four elements, in theory, as well as healing manaz defensive mana, etc. Everything except the ones that are race exclusive. Though, for some races it doesn't make as much sense, like for an Almiun to use fire a whole lot. Those are their elemental manas. When accessing the void because of its unpredictable nature, your char would be at risk of losing their connection to those elemental mana vessels.. Not entirely of course, but you would roleplay it as a dance between strength and weakness, because maybe you get good at your syphon ability but at the cost of your native mana skills being lost. It would manifest in such a way that would see the person feeling like the element they once understood so well has become like a stranger and in this world, understanding of and familiarity with the elemental vessels is required for mana use. Does that help at all? Essentially the unpredictable nature of the void pits the caster at risk of losing some of their own mana skills. We could do this as a roll, or simply as normal writing with your own reasoning dictating it. Totally up to you :)

Posting my CS in a few, might need time to reformat it. And then I'll respond to the collab, Soul!

Eruanna Rainbringer
Sylvuin, Itrya Culture | 43 | Female | Far Shore Village | Healer | Mage of Light

APPEARANCE
Eruanna's most prominent trait is her hair, a golden color that brightens with red/orange strawberry blonde hues in the sunlight, nearly bright enough in color to be viewed as an Odakkai trait, and deepens into cool, pale tones in the moonlight. She wears it long like most of her kind, dropping down past her lower back with small braids looping around the back of her head and a characteristic twist down over her left shoulder. Her hair is cut in layers, with shorter locks around her face so that they can be easily tucked behind her ear tips and longer lengths extending from the back of her head. Her eyes are forest green and shine a more metallic gold in direct light. Her complexion is best describe as a cream or pearl like color, pale but not like that of a human's--it glows with more warmth and color in the dimmest of lights than the lightest and flattest of human tones. Down the left side of her neck, and over that side of her collarbone, shoulder, upper arm and torso are the color has changed to a pale, shiny pink covering the length of a fully healed burn scar. Sylvuin in nature she stands tall, perhaps an inch or two above average for woman her age, and has a slender physique and runner's muscles. She dresses in warm browns, oranges, reds and tans, and usually dresses for warmth.

CHARACTER
Bubbly, Restless, Audacious, Compassionate, Spirited
Eruanna is a free-spirited young woman whose soul is afflicted with a dire case of wanderlust and her heart with generosity. She dreams of seeing all four corners of the world within her lifetime, meeting legends and heroes, and seeing every landmark that graces the earth. She is incredibly friendly and amicable, a sweet person with nothing but the kindest of intentions--she has a hard time being angry, and a harder time handling her emotions in the rare situation in which fury finds her. Her love extends to everyone, from total strangers to friends to foes. Despite her very nature being active and tireless, she is rather peaceful at her core, and is at one with the forests she lives in. From the earth she has learned that sometimes violence is a part of life, but that there is help to be found should one know where to look, and she believes in the inner good nature of all beings.
| Strengths |
  • Forgiving: Though sometimes a fault, Eruanna's forgiving nature is usually to her benefit. She has never held a grudge in her life, and is notably difficult to anger or frustrate. Her patience with others seemingly knows no bounds and she manages to forgive even the worst of transgressions.
  • Friendly: Someone as sweet as Eruanna is hard to dislike; perhaps only the most irritable and grumpy of people could truly hate her. She finds it easy to talk to people, even total strangers, and while not always the most charismatic, is innately innocent and honest.
  • Brave: Since she was a child, it has always been difficult to scare this young Sylvuin. Growing up she lived for adventure and thrills, going as far as risking her life for new experiences and memories. She's also very quick to defend herself, and is without fear of obtaining a few scratches or a tongue lashing. Perhaps sometimes she takes dares and challenges a bit too far, but her total confidence in herself and maybe a little bit of luck has kept her safe, and thoroughly bold, thus far.
  • Lucky: Is it a true strength? Perhaps not, but most would admit that Eruanna has been, simply put, really goddamn lucky growing up. From being rather left to her own devices as a child (she has no end of stories, some exaggerated, about how she discovered poisonous berries by eating them to tangoing with snakes) to surviving crossing perhaps the most dangerous lands in Endurn, she's done a number of terrifying things and has managed to walk to tell the tale--though, not without scars and show-worthy trinkets, of course!
  • Sweet: Ru is a complete sweetheart. She just wants people to be happy, and is a hugger, frequent gift-giver, and positivity douse-r.
| Skills |
  • Healing: Eruanna began her education at home, learning all her mother knew before leaving to journey to the great college in Haran. Her mother taught her how to identify and gather herbs and resources from the wild, and how to use odds and ends as medical tools. The healers of Haran taught her the use of more sophisticated poultices and methods. She has a keen eye when it comes to injury and illness, and prizes her ability to tend to her patients with tender care.
  • Weaponry [blades]: When it comes to combat, Eruanna is most skilled with her knives. She carries with her a prized set of throwing knives that were given to her by her mother on her birthday, days before she left to cross Korim's Breath. Alongside these knives, she also possesses several other small blades, most of them also gifts: a set of twin blades shorter and lighter than traditional longswords, and a dagger. While she has great mobility with her blades she lacks in offensive technique. She's far from being an expert, but does know enough to defend herself and get a meal.
  • Hunting: Eruanna has skill with a number of hunting techniques, primarily focusing on trapping and snaring, though she is proficient with a crossbow and would be able to survive if seafood were her primary source of game. Not only does she know how to catch her meals, but she is skilled at using most of the animal she catches, though there are still many tricks she has yet to master or even learn of.
  • Cooking: Not only can she extract almost every usable part of an animal, but she's very talented at cooking it! One of her dreams is not only to discover every possible natural medicine the world has to offer, but every natural tasty, too. Some of her creations do leave her taste-testers wondering if her tastebuds are broken, however; if you want somebody to try your exotic meal or gray gloop of a stew, she'll happily volunteer and will probably love it, too.
  • Survivalism: Eruanna has the basics of surviving down. She's keen with a compass (and it helps she's a Sylvuin!) and isn't a terrible navigator, generally knows the ins and outs of camping, finding shelter, food, and water.
| Weaknesses |
  • Naive: Eruanna is a little bit gullible, and has a tendency to believe that everything is good, and everything will be good: even if the world was ending she would hold out hope for a savior, or perhaps would show optimism for a life after death even while facing her end down. She often overthinks her own strength and ability, and pursues goals that are out of reach.
  • Burn scars: Eruanna still experiences mild to sharp pain where her skin has been afflicted with deep tissue, second to third degree burns. Sometimes, even the softest of clothing rubbing against her skin causes intense discomfort, while other days the pain is in the background of her thoughts.
  • Water Phobic: Crossing Korim's Breathe is one of the stupidest things a person can do, particularly in inexperienced youth. But when faced with the option of taking to the sea or crossing the flames, the choice was a nobrainer. Eruanna has a panic-inducing fear of deep water. She can't swim in depths any deeper than her height, and feels uncomfortable when submerged, even in bath water. Her fear runs so deep that she'd likely seize up and drown if she did manage to find herself out of her depth--her solution is to simply avoid water, fresh and salt, as much as possible.
  • Rustic: Eruanna isn't really book smart. The great college at Haran was and remains a challenge for her, simply because some of the teaching methods employed by healers greater than she take on a more traditional approach; her knowledge of the world is limited to what she's heard by word of tongue and by the legends passed around by the small few who live in her hometown, and so a lot of what she thinks she knows simply isn't true. Big city life is strange to her, and she lives her life by a different set of customs and culture.
  • Inappropriate: Eruanna has a problem with sticking her nose where it doesn't belong, and doing the absolute wrong things at the wrong times.
BACKSTORY
Myriani || Best Friend
Malear || Best Friend
Elmyra || Biological Mother, deceased
Qira || Adoptive Mother, deceased
Ruanna || Namesake and Maternal figure
Elmyra Rainbringer was born in the small Far Shore Village to a small family that claimed to have lived on that coast since the Sylvuin first arrived in Endurn. Her parents were content with their simple life on the shore and scraped together a living by fishing and tailoring for the few residents who remained in the old village. They raised their children--Elmyra was the third and youngest child--to respect their home, maintain their culture and to memorize the legends that had been passed from person to person since the Sylvuin arrival. All in all, her childhood was peaceful, but boring, and like her two siblings when she came of age Elmyra dreamed of leaving home and going somewhere far, far away.
She begged her parents to let her leave home, but they'd already lost two of their children to travel, and didn't want to lose their last. So, Elmyra and her closest friend, a Varan named Qira packed some clothing, food, and a few coins and left the village with their eyes set on elsewhere. At first, they wandered blindly through Itrya until they came to Vatar, stumbling and half starved. There, they were rescued by a middle aged Sylvuin, Taanyth who convinced several others in her gang to adopt Elmyra and her friend. For two years they worked odd jobs amongst criminals to earn their room and board, until Elmyra decided she'd had enough and wanted to return to the 'real' world. In order to acquire travel supplies, she struck a deal with Taanyth; in exchange for supplies and safe leave from the organization, they would assist in smuggling goods across the border to Valrun's Rocky Peak Town. Elmyra, Qira, a Sylvuin named Ayduin and Taanyth traveled through the mountains and to Brenn, where they would receive a caravan for travel to Rocky Peak Town--however, they were caught there at a local inn with stolen goods. In the ensuing fight, Elmyra and Qira took the money pouches from Taanyth's rucksack and made off through the backdoor of the inn. They purchased a horse from a small farm near the lake, and traveled north to Rocky Peak Town.
Once in Rocky Peak Town, Elmyra discovered she was pregnant. Not desiring a child, but wishing less to raise a child in Valrun, she and Qira used the remnants of their money to buy a spot on a caravan traveling over the mountains to Yral. There, Elmyra raised her daughter, named Eruanna after a kind woman who gave the pair lodging on their arrival. For four years they stayed in Yral and studied with Ruanna until Elmyra, who had recently begun to maintain contact with her mother, learned that her mother was dying of illness back in the Far Shore Village. Not wanting to admit to her mother Eruanna's origins, Qira claimed possession of the child and they returned to Far Shore Village.
For several months, Elmyra attempted to use the things she had learned in both Yral and Vatar to heal her mother to no avail. Wracked with grief, she thrust herself into learning what she could about the natural world and it's remedies, firmly believing that if she had only known more she could have saved her mother's life. Qira raised Eruanna while Elmyra traveled to Haran. For the years following, she hardly sent word--and Eruanna grew up without her biological mother. Qira raised her with as much love and compassion as she could, and soon gave birth to her own children, twins Myriani and Malear whom Eruanna became fast friends.
When Eruanna was sixteen, her biological mother returned after her father's, Eruanna's grandfather's, passing. Feeling guilty for abandoning her daughter, Elmyra attempted to reclaim parenthood of her daughter, and began to teach her of the things she had learned. She taught Eruanna of Yral, presenting her with hybrid seeds and books of their knowledge, and of the great schools in Haran. Their relationship began rockily, but Eruanna forgave her mother for her absence despite never truly viewing her as her "real" mother.
Eruanna's life continued much as her mother's had in youth, though when she was 25 and wished to see Yral and meet her namesake Elmyra obliged and allowed her to travel with Qira for a visit. They stayed for several years in which Eruanna worked the local farms and learned about herbs and medicines the people there had developed. Ruanna offered her a place in her home and a job for years to come, but missing her family she returned home and continued to study off of her mother's notes and helped with rebuilding her grandmother's tailoring business.
She lost both of her mothers at once a year later in an accident during a sudden storm. She, her 'siblings' and both mothers were on a fishing vessel just barely within visible distance of the shore. The crashing waves overturned the vessel, and it was said that Qira and Elmyra likely got caught inside of netting and drowned, or were injured by the sharper tools in their boat. Awakening several days after the incident in her bed, having almost drowned herself, Eruanna found herself parentless and mostly penniless. She and Myriani continued on Elmyra's small business, though Eruanna refused now to go near the water and relied on Malear's efforts to bring food to their table. Eltaor--Myriani and Malear's father--began to teach Eruanna how to provide for herself, including teaching her all he knew of various weapons and how to hunt on dry land.
Before long, however, Myriani and Malear were both leaving the village to pursue their education elsewhere. Several years older, Eruanna decided that she should do the same, and decided to go to Haran to continue where her mother had left off. But unwilling to travel across the oceans to Kallamere, she decided her best option was the stupidest one--to cross Korim's Breath.
Her guide would only bring her to it's edge, far before the fires began and the true breadth of the land began. From there, she continued onward--and managed to survive unscathed, apart from the scar that now sits along her left side. A dragon, though she admits she barely saw the beast in the encounter, released it's firey breath over the entire area in which she'd been sheltering with the intention, she assumes, of killing a wild beast nearby. Fortunately it did not see where she was hidden inside a small rocky cove, and she remained there for a week before she had healed enough to travel onwards.
She received deeper medical assistance on her arrival in Haran, whose skilled physicians managed to turn the angry, jagged red of her wounds into a neat, though obvious pink scar. From then onwards she continued her studying there, though has since decided on dreams of traveling to the other countries of Endurn to learn medicine from all cultures and places.
ABILITIES
1st Soul Ability:
Pathokinesis: Temporarily influencing the emotions of others through either physical contact (stronger effects) or the spoken word (weaker effects). The length of time these changes take affect depends on the medium--i.e. continued physical contact or sound of voice. In particular, the range of emotions Eruanna can influence are limited to positive feelings; contentment, confidence, altruism, etcetera.
2nd Soul Ability:
Helping Light: When in desperate need for a resource such as food, water, or medicine, a gentle illumination of light will guide Ru to what she needs, though the light never provides in excess and only what is needed for the survival of her herself or others, and she is required to collect materials herself (it could direct her towards a river with a treacherous-to-descend bank, or towards a powerful predator for food).
3rd Soul Ability:
Regeneration: Healing through the process of returning something to its whole or pure form.
4th Soul Ability:
Purification: Making someone pure or whole again when poisoned, tainted, or cursed.
5th Soul Ability:
Enlightened Mind: Eruanna possesses the uncanny ability to draw the light of the sun into her eyes and make them glow in the pale white tone of the hero's soul. The glow is captivating, putting her target into a trance-like state that is almost impossible to break, when fully trained. While locked in this gaze, she has the ability to peer into the mind and heart of the target. At first, she'll receive raw emotions, desires, and other primitive knowledges but with time, she'll be able to explore the very thoughts of the target.
Race Specific Perk 1:
Resurrection: Bring a fallen comrade back to life at the cost of almost complete mana depletion. This ability requires immense mana rituals to complete before and after the process.
Race specific Perk 2:
Nimble Above and Below: Whether you are on the ground or high in the trees, you move swiftly, nimbly, and with great ease. It isn't often you're felled by means of tripping or stumbling.
Race Specific Perk 3:
True North: You never have to wonder which direction is north.
Culture Specific Perk:
Itrya Culture: Swift-runners of the plains, your kind are faster than any other.
OTHER
Distastes: Among other things, Eruanna particularly dislikes muggy weather, fancy clothing/ornamentation, the cold, and is mildly claustrophobic.
Preferences: The color green, the smells of spearmint and lavender, and feathers.
Aspirations: Eruanna has a hankering to learn like none other. She dreams of being a world class healer--or perhaps, the best healer of Endurn--and having a few thrilling adventures to talk about couldn't hurt.

The fact that bios require a picture is plaguing me...

I read the race descriptions and think of all the ways I can make a character of that race absolutely horrific, then I realize I will never be able to find a picture for that.

I might be able to make an exception *floats around* :) Make a detailed physical appearance description following this sheet and just add it at the top. Don't stress until you've asked me about it because my main goal here is to help players. My rules are kind of, maybe, there to weed out people who aren't willing to communicate or put in effort, while also serving to show you my average expectations. I'd love for the rules to be followed! But what I love more is a player who tries their best. :)

And if you're open to it, other users can try and help you find a picture. At least two of us (myself and @Mowkie) are photoshop junkies and we can change a lot of details in a picture :)

Thanks for the CS @Rainjay

BTW, for all the new players: white, rain, and I all made our CS's last week when we were trying to get this RP started on another site. So, they're all just popping up because I reviewed and accepted them already :)

I wouldn't put it past Soul to eventually be able to find something that fits the description of any odd character, anyways.

Goddamn I wish I could art, though. Would make character creation so much easier...

Probably a southern forest elf. I'm always partial to death magic but illusions would probably fit him better and I haven't been able to write much because something happened to my eye and it won't stay open for more than a few seconds at a time

Yikes, is it an infection? My son had an eye infection last week -_- It was not fun for him.

A Deciduous Sylvuin Mage of Death? Gnarly, that'll be a good one :D Rain's char is also from Itrya so there's potential for backstory there, if it comes up.

I do have a love for creating shared backstories. Makes for some fun interactions! Especially since I'm the mage of life.

So, mounts. Is it possible to acquire one later? I don't think Eruanna would have one now but it seems like theyll be valuable assets later.

Rainy, would Valya's parents recognize Eruanna for her mother? Would they mistake her? See the similiarities or think she looks familiar?

Do you have any information about the fashion norms of the various civilizations? This is actually kind of important for the character I'm going to create.

Edit: It's mostly the materials I'm interested in.
