  5. It's time for another voting drive! As with previous voting drives we will be sending out voting reminders once a day for the first week of a new voting cycle. This helps to get a good position in the top rankings early on. For people wanting to help out around the site but who can't necessarily contribute in other ways, this is a great way to help out. I can't understate how important voting is. Almost all of our traffic comes from TopRPSites, and when we aren't in the top rankings, we don't draw in new users. So get on in there and vote for Storyteller's Circle!

The Core Systems: Ostra - Wielden Colony

The homeworld of the Sli'f, rather than a planet this homeworld is a vast field of asteroids and planetoids, with one outer side being heavily populated and the inner regions gradually becoming sparse. The strongest mining industry known thus far, Ostra has a strong economy and significant police presence - crime is very low. Markets exist spanning several asteroids the size of villages and nice buildings that incorporate the natural shape of the rocks for decoration.

A fairly safe place to be, though there is of course an underground presence.

“I swear, we get less and less funding every year...first, no metal for swords...now, no lead for bullets...what’s next? The Mage Corp go on strike...?” Stone grumbled, looking over the numerous letters and charts scattered across his desk.

While being Weilden’s financial adviser had its perks, this certainly was not one. Stone eased back in his large arm chair, the fire behind him illuminating the room and casting his large, foreboding shadow across the many paintings and animal mounts along the walls. Stone placed his hands in a steeple before him, looking from head to head, tapestry to tapestry. He’d built this place from the ground up, the walls strong and sturdy. He’d taken the time and patience to take this from a one roomed shack to manor of his own on the outskirts of the human colony called Weilden. He took the time to build this very room, hoping it’s purposes would include war counciling and mentorship of young soldiers. Instead, it was used to file taxes, charter supply shipments, and invest in equipments. In other words, extremely boring business. Stone sighed as he stood from his desk, crossing the room and exiting out into the main hall.

“Maybe a walk will do me good...” he sighed, heading for the door and snagging his coat on the way out. As he exited the manor, Stone took a pause to consider his blades. “No, no point. I’ll just be around town. It’ll do me good to see how well we ‘coexist’ with our gracious hosts.”

Stone started down the pitted path to a fairly militant town, growing rapidly with the passing years. In the distantce, he could see the start of another theatre, the steam cranes lifting heavy stones and setting them atop a mortar-lain foundation. Stone looked to the sky-an array of stars filling them, a handful of blazing suns lighting up the mid day. The asteroid hosting Weilden was just one of many with a hospitable atmosphere for life, a couple flowers growing in the stoney earth before Stone.

Landing in the primary spaceport of the Weilden Colony was a small cog ship, housing a dozen men and women who swiftly disembarked through the single plank connecting it to the jetty. Last to leave was a stylishly dressed young man, a fair bit smaller than everyone else on the crew. This one looked around, before smiling and nodding. He was sure this cargo had a good turn around profit - not money, but an agreed-upon artifact. This was Kyo Kimura, the leader of the spacing guild known as the Cosmic Rays. He was no longer satisfied with the name, but nobody else seemed to mind so he didn't worry too much about renaming it.
In any case, he had ought to meet up with his client to discuss payment. He let his trusted crew to work as he headed off himself away from the jetty and into town. "A nice place, this. Really coming around." He said happily to himself. "Not many Sli'f, all things considered.." He murmured in extra. Oh well, that wasn't hurting anyone surely. He was somewhat distracted, more time had passed than he realized by the time he reached his destination - a high-class restaurant. He hummed in delight. This was a nice meeting place indeed, the food and drink here was supposedly very good!

An hour later and the business deal had finished. It went very well, he received more than he bargained for. He hummed a tune to himself as he made his way back to his ship, briefly closing his eyes as he breathed in the pleasant-smelling air, still walking, ending up walking directly into Stone. The size difference meant he'd probably not make any kind of impact on the gigantic gentleman, but the diminutive Kyo cried out quietly as he bounced right of Stone's back.

Stone paused a moment and looked down towards Kyo, passively staring through him. “Oh my. It appears of walked into a child. Do you need any help, young man?” Stone asked, offering a hand to Kyo.

This didn’t appear to be any child. He was too well dressed, face slightly more mature than any of the youth of Weilden. “You aren’t from here, are you? Who did you come with? Where are your parents?” In the light of the sun, Stone looked even more fearsome, towering far above Kyo. His dark shadow swallowed him, his coat flowing out and discouraging any chance of a radient light saving Kyo from the dark expanse. Stone’s white eyes and hair were all that weren’t swallowed in the dark.

“Apologies, I - oh my.” Kyo looked up at the towering man in front of him, correcting his glasses. “Closed my eyes for just a second and managed to hit you. I’m really sorry.” He bowed respectfully to the military officer. “I am not a child, though.” He chided calmly, smoothing out his ruffled coat as he spoke.
“To answer your first question, I came with my guild. In fact I was just leaving.” The young gentleman hummed for a moment, gauging Stone’s expression carefully but subtly.

Stone held a solid poker face, considering Kyo’s words. Guild meant supplies. Supplies meant trade. Trade meant betterment. “Hm...a guild you say...? And may I ask which guild you represent...?” He asked, shoving his hands in his pockets.

At that point, Stone remembered himself, bowing apologetically. “Where are my manners...my name is-...John Stone.” He said, extending a large, welcoming hand. Despite his greeting, his face remained a slate.

Cassie squirmed into bed, ready to take a nap. She was grateful that she had finished her training earlier in the day. Before another Sli'f could disturb her, she drifted off into the land of dreams.

In her dream, Cassie saw Athena. She spoke to the small Sli'f, "Your kind is in danger. Please help them!" Cassie spoke, "How? I've only been training for a couple years." The powerful being nodded and said, "You'll know." Waking up, Cass crawled quickly to John Stone's office. "John! John! Athena spoke to me! She said we were in danger!" Breathing heavily, Cassie got into a chair.

Stone’s chair faced the fire, the figure in it hidden by the height of the seat. “You’d better be glad you aren’t eight feet tall and albino...” a gruff voice said from behind the chairs back.

As the seat turned, it became more and more obvious that this was not John Stone. The figure in the seat was Sli’f, for starters, and was a good two feet shorter than the giant that the chair was made for. He wore dark grey robes, trimmed and stitched with pale blues and browns, matching the colors the manor radiated most. His hood was low, covering his face and the majority of his head.

Grey finger like appendages came up and rubbed against the face behind the hood, seemingly tired. “You should leave before something happens to you...” the gruff voice stated coldly, a thin, shiv like stone rising slowly from the Sli’f’s “finger”.

Kyo nodded. “Yes, I am the guildmaster of the Cosmic Rays.” Stone may or may not have heard of them - they weren’t especially prominent but they weren’t tiny either. If Stone had heard of them he may be aware they were currently preparing an expedition. They had advertised such fairly well.

Kyo watched Stone now to him. Amusingly to Kyo, even bowed Stone was higher than he was. He bowed respectfully in return. “And I am Kyo Kimura.” The Kimura name, I like the Cosmic Rays, was very well known. They were an incredibly wealthy family with a wide influence across even the worlds they did not govern.

“Hm...Cosmic Rays...” was all Stone mused. He knew who the Cosmic Rays were. He made it a point to listen around and learn about any potential resources. While the Rays weren’t the biggest he’d seen or heard of, they were one of the larger ones to grace Weilden’s ports. It put a small smile on Stone’s face to know that they must’ve been here to conduct some business. Even if it was for some expedition, news about Weilden’s activities may remind Aer that they are still out their and still need some help.

The name, Kimura, struck Stone, causing home to raise a brow as his smile spread a little wider. “Kimura, uh..? Hm...yes, I can see the resemblance...though, you look more like your mother than anything...” Stone knew his parents, his mother especially. In his time before one Ostra, he’d been called to personally speak with them in the hopes of being funded. While business didn’t go as well as planned, Stone still found a way to...profit.

Cassie changed into her humanoid form and pulled out her laser gun. "Don't take another step! You're not John." Flipping the switch, the gun begins to charge up, and she keeps her finger on the trigger, yet she doesn't pull it.

“No shit, Sherlock. Bowed you guess that? Was it the hood? It was the hood, wasn’t it?” The Sli’f asked sarcastically.

“Take it easy with that damn thing...you’ll shoot your eye out.” He continued, relaxing as he dropped his hood, revealing his helmet, face shielded by glass. “I’m not here to shoot the old bastard. I’m here for a private discussion. Seeing as I was here first, you should go away and wait your turn.” He stated cooly, annoyed by the woman. It was one thing to be chided for not being the person that someone expected. It’s another thing to have a gun aimed at you.

Cassie lowered the gun and turned it off, "Sorry, but that's Stone's chair. Yes, it was the hood." She pulls the gun out again, her finger on it. "Tell me where he is, please. Our people are in danger." She thinks to herself silently, I bet you're the threat.

“Well, seeing as I was sort of waiting for him to come back, I’m going to have to say that....i have no clue where he is.” He said, boredly, looking to the fire. “And regarding ‘our people’, I don’t much give a damn if ‘we’re’ in danger.”

Cassie lowered her gun again and spoke calmly. "Okay. I understand you don't know where he is. However, Athena spoke to me in a dream. She told me that a great threat was coming. I'm supposed to find John." She breathed deeply and hoped the man believed her. If he didn't, she was going to find John herself.

Kyo tilted his head slightly. This individual was rather quiet. If he’d known his parents.. “Ah, so you’ve acquainted with my family already! Yes, I’ve been told before I look like her.” Kyo smiled a little. “Say, you look like a strapping gentleman, how would you like to join me and my associates on an expedition? I guarantee it will interest you.” He winked at the much larger man, seeing if he could get some of the charm he inherited from his parents to work.

As they spoke his crew members busied themselves advertising the expedition wherever they could - of course being tactful about the matter for the most part. To make sure they didn’t give away too much, they themselves didn’t know very much about the nature of the journey. The hope was, every able-bodied adult would know about it and at least some would join them. This could be highly profitable for everyone involved.

“...kid, lay off the drugs. A giant metal ball in the sky spoke to you in some damn vision? Really? And I’m a Grey Wolf from Aer. Woof...” the Sli’f said, more annoyed than anything. “You really think that piece of junk gives a shit about you?”

Stone pondered a moment, feigning thought. He’d made up his mind the moment he asked in reality. He needed to at least consider it, however, if not for his sake then for the sake of his public image. “I’ll consider it...how tight is your schedule, young Kimura? If you really want to convince me to join, you can do so over dinner. That is, if you’d be willing to join.” Stone offered, subtly goating the young merchant in the hopes of learning more about him.

Stone noted that all that really seemed to be said about this “expedition” was that able bodied men were called upon to help. It got Stone think just what this expedition might actually be. It’s have to be asked later tonight if the young merchant decided to come to dinner. Stone reached in his vest and checked his pocket watch, noting the time. He was late...but they could wait on him. It wasn’t as if their matter was pressing.

Kyo visibly lit up at the news that Stone was considering. He had a good feeling though that the man had already made up his mind, one way or another. Which meant he was using this to get a free meal, or he was already going to agree to come - and was using this to get a free meal. “We are staying for sixty hours to resupply and gather more assistance while our flagship makes its approach. We have plenty of time to discuss terms and payments.” Kyo explained calmly. He was happy to give away information such as that to this man regardless - he had no reason to be secretive nor to divulge any more until he had a more concrete grasp on his stoic persona.
Kyo took note of said pocketwatch and the unreadable expression on Stone’s face as he read it. He briefly considered a question for the man but decided against it - instead making a different question. “Did you have any establishment in particular you wished to meet me at? I’m afraid my knowledge of Weilden is very limited and I don’t know of any good eateries myself.”
