Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived The Core Systems: Ostra - Wielden Colony

"Oh, ah, I guess?" Ricky replied with a hint of uncertainty as she gave her the pamphlet. She was really tall and had to bend down so they could talk without him having to strain his head upwards. Whoa, he was actually pretty good-looking. He didn't know why he was surprised by that. But he wasn't interested in that, as there was apparently a mission on his hands now. He looked back at the pamphlet and decided he would read it later.

"Just to be sure, this won't involve having to join a clan or something right?" He asked. The last thing he wanted was getting involved with clans, guilds and whatnot. Or at least, having to join them. He wasn't above the occasional help here and there, but never outright joining them since it would restrict movement."And, how long would it take?" He continued. This might be covered later, but it might not as well. He wanted to squeeze as much information out of her as possible.

Hours later, Cass woke up to find herself in her bed. She saw nothing and there never was any voice, but she doubted her safe home. She felt something could be coming, even though the Wielden Colony was protected from threats. Cass still had a strange paranoia, it was as if she knew a secret. A long forgotten secret. Cass slithered out of bed and across the floor to her window. She could see many things, traders bargaining, other Slif 'talking' and some other normal sites. Cass slithered out the door, and began slithering around the colony. Perhaps, she could take her mind off of the dream and her doubts.

The large lady gave a gentle laugh at Ricky’s clear uncertainty, it was very endearing to her. Watching him intently for a moment before turning her gaze to the fire horse beside him, the giantess stood back up to her full height and put her hands on her hips. “Oh, no, you don’t have to worry about joining a guild or anything. We’re just offering a one-off job because we’re in need of extra manpower.” She explained.

“As for how long it will take, we will outline that in the briefing should you decide to come to the tavern.” Came Ricky’s answer. “I will say though that this is a public invite for an expedition to an as-of-yet completely unexplored world. The portal that leads there is not yet common knowledge but there have been some dangerous monsters cropping up around where the portal is - we know it’s gonna be dangerous.”

@Kiki Zapatos
As luck would have it by the time the large lady finished her explanation to Ricky, Cass would be well within earshot. A keyword in particular that she may have overheard would be “dangerous”.

Fair enough, this was a one time gig. That was entirely fine by him, better actually. Ophelius stomped his hoof in agreement and bumped his head at Ricky who nodded. "Sounds good." He told the giant lady. Seeing as the time would be announced later, he shrugged. Well, he was only going for interest. Other people didn't look too keen on joining, so maybe it'll raise morale on their side or something.

However, her saying that they would be exploring an unexplored planet certainly caught his attention. A planet ripe for the scavenging? A planet where he could learn more about the nature? He grinned and then said, "You got me at unexplored planet. I'm not sure where the meeting place is though since I just came here for the first time. Mind pointing me to the right direction?"

The giantess smiled brightly, as it seemed this young man was still interested! That was very good, though he looked raggedy, the presence of such a tame and healthy looking fire horse made her suspect there was more to him than meets the eye. It would be interesting to watch how he handles the aptitude test, if he agrees. She beamed happily between the O[helius and Ricardo, before he asked about the direction of the pub in question.

In fact, when he did ask, a light flush came to her cheeks as she realised: she didn't know where it was either. "Well, I actually don't know either. I was going to go with a guildmate who did know." Visibly, Lang tried to think up a solution. Thankfully one arrived quickly. "You know what? How about if you can use your skills to find it, consider that a tick for your chances of employment." She told him.

"Ah..." Ricky said once the giant lady admitted that even she didn't know where it was, and only relied on another guildmate who did know. Well, this was quite a problem wasn't it? However, he quickly chuckled it off - not really minding that even the person recruiting him didn't know. However, his horse snorted in disagreement, nudging its head onto his shoulder. "Hey, what is it?" Ricky asked, looking towards him before the giant lady tasked him to do anything.

"Don't you think it's a bit suspicious that she doesn't know? What kind of recruiter is that?" Ophelius reasoned.

Ricky rolled his eyes at him and pushed his head away. "Jeez, stop being so paranoid. 'Sides, what if they were really going to do it, we'll be missing a once in a lifetime chance!" He didn't mind that the lady could fully hear his side of the conversation, arguing with a fire horse of all things.

Ophelius seemed to roll his eyes at this as well. "Once in a lifetime? This is what we do for a living."

"This is for free." He stressed the last word. "We're going. Right Mikaela?" He said before something slithered out of his coat and wrapped around his neck, resting on his shoulders. The Shad Skin looked at the giant lady and hissed, attempting to instill fear onto the lady to feed off her. However, Ricky tapped her head and said, "No scaring off other people. Didn't I tell you that?" The animal lowered her head, but still looked at the giant lady with a glare - its red eyes staring right into her. Ophelius seemed to relent to his master's decision, but looked skeptical.

Ricky then looked back when she continued talking about his task. "Ooh! That should be easy!" He said excitedly before taking out the map that he earlier bought. "I didn't really want to rely on it so quickly, but here we go." He then went into his own world as he looked at the map and tracing his finger around. It didn't look like the bar was on the map itself, but Devil Street was clearly written there. "Here it is! It should be around..." He then pointed to the west. "That a way."

The big blonde lady blinked at mention of a “Mikaela” and smiled upon seeing the peculiar little thing. She had experienced shad-skins in groups before when she worked for the local peacekeepers but this was the first time she saw one up close and frankly it was kind of cute - knowing they were harmless when they were this small. “Well hello Mikaela.” She said softly, speaking calmly to avoid alerting the small creature too badly. Moving away after a moment, she turned to Ophelius. “And who might you be, handsome?” She asked, glancing at Ricky. The statuesque overall-clad amazon smiled sincerely. “Then can I say I’ll see you at the tavern, brave gentleman~?” She asked with honeyed voice, her hands on her hips as she looked down at the smaller of the two. The interaction he had with his horse was somewhat peculiar, it was hard to say from just looking and observing here if the fire stallion was a pet or a familiar but she wasn’t so concerned either way.

Mikaela shrank when she was called by the giant lady and then went docile. Ricky chuckled and shook his head. "Poor girl huh? It's hard to be the runt of the litter. Got kicked out before I found her. She has trouble feeding thanks to her... smaller nature. But she's still young and she'll still grow!" He said optimistically and then patting the shad skin on the head once more.

Ophelius stomped his hoof onto the ground when he was regarded. Ricky replied, "Oh, he's Ophelius. My familiar, just in case you haven't caught on with our conversation." He said with a light chuckle. "It looks pretty weird from another's viewpoint huh?" He continued. He wasn't unfamiliar with the odd glances sent towards him because apparently, he was weird for talking to animals. Well, Ricky hasn't caught on that he looked weird not just because of Ophelius but because he talks to all the animals he encounters like he understands them like he does humans.

Odd man, Ricardo was.

The charm placed into the words seemed to pass Ricky without the intended effect. "Sure!" He cheered. "You still gonna stay and continue recruiting?" He asked curiously.

@Generik

The giantess continued looking at Mikaela for a moment, humming quietly. It was unfortunate for Shad-Skins lately, as awareness rose even children started to be scared of them less. Hence, now they have a shortage of sustenance. "How do you keep the cutie from starving, if I may ask?" She asked curiously, tilting her head slightly. The first thought that came to her head was that the young man used some method of inducing fear in himself so she could feed.

Then, she laughed. "And a wonderful familiar you are. Pleased to meet you, Ophelius." She bowed respectfully to the fire horse. This was a good sign - a familiar typically meant the person who had it, had a good control of magic - this meant he was likely a useful contender for the planned expedition. It seemed she had a good strike for that. However even if he didn't reveal Ophelius to be a familiar the large lady wouldn't have worried herself - people using bronze tongue to speak to animals was reasonably common.

Miss Big Lady shook her head. "Actually before you came I was right about to head back to the ship to go to the tavern, but since you're here I had may as well escort you there anyway." She told him happily, hands now on hips. With that, she stowed the pamphlets into a pocket on the front of her overalls. "-Oh, if you'd like, that is. I'm happy to leave you to it."

@King Lurk

"I have a bunch of pets back at home who are scared of Mikaela." Ricky admitted. They were small in size so the shad-skin actually looked frightening to them. "Though, when we're on the move, I just try my best to get scared." He continued with a hearty laugh. It was usually hard, considering the fact that he, himself, had plunged into multiple life-or-death situations without much thought or fear, but he manages somehow.

Ophelius seemed pleased by the woman's show of respect. He stomped his hoof onto the ground, dragged it back and then bowed his head slightly to show that he appreciated the gesture. Though, to make sure that the thought didn't just pass the lady's head, Ricky explained. "He's showing gratitude for the respect you've given him. You know how they're prideful creatures and all."

Ricky clapped his hands once to show enthusiasm. "Sweet! Let's go!" He seemed to be very excited to have a companion and a job like this. "My name is Ricardo, by the way. Ricky's fine too!" He introduced himself, now only realizing he hasn't told her his name yet. He may not be accepted in the expedition, but the more people he knew, the better for him anyway. He began walking towards the street where the tavern was located.

@Generik

“Ahh, that’s a good idea actually. I had half a thought that you were scaring children with her.” Miss Giant laughed good-naturedly.

“Well he’s a very handsome horse too. You made a good choice of familiar.” She complimented happily. “You’ll meet my familiar too in a big, when I get back to him.” She told Ricky and Ophelius, a big smile on her pretty face.

“Oh yeah I didn’t introduce myself either! I’m Langtra but you can call me Lang. If you have a familiar I’m sure you’ll pass aptitude.” She told Ricky encouragingly.

Ricky couldn't help but laugh as well. "I'm not too worried about that. Children nowadays are pretty much aware of what shad-skins can do, so they're not as scared of them as they originally were." He remembered how his sister reacted to seeing one for the first time when they were kids. It was a far cry from now.

"Trust me, it was pretty darn hard to get him." The mage admitted, patting Ophelius's flank. The horse snorted, as if to agree that it was indeed a challenge to get him under control. Even Ricky wasn't sure what exactly transpired that allowed him to make a Fire Horse as a familiar, but it happened and he was pretty happy with it.

"Lang." He repeated, testing the name and then nodded to himself. "Nice to meet you!" He cheerily said as they proceeded down towards the tavern. He was very excited. While it was not written in stone, there was a chance of him going to an unexplored part of the universe. And honestly? He was looking forward to it so very much. "Thanks! Just a heads up, I'm a mage. Not really much of a physical fighter." He then began to hum as they walked.

Langtra nodded. "At least they can still feed off other animals, I worry they'll go extinct." She said, almost sadly. She remembered when a shad-skin managed to get into her daughter's bed when she was still a small child. Lang at first thought it was a snake but realized the young girl was playing happily with the creature.

"I know how it feels to have a familiar like that. You'd love Ymir, when you see him. He'll be at the tavern." The giant told Ricky, a smile coming to her lips as she imagined his reaction to seeing the guy. He was beautiful.. Ymir, that is.

Lang offered a soft smile to Ricky when he told her it was nice to meet her. "It's nice to meet you too, Ricky." She had a certain quality about her, a very strong motherly vibe that made her calming to be around. "Oh, a mage, eh?" She suddenly had an image of the face her boss would make upon hearing that. She hoped her boss wouldn't do that though.. "I myself am a fighter, but the boss is a mage."

The day seemed to be going on like usual. Traders trading police policing and people going on about their business. But all of that soon changed when a seemingly small crack appeared in the fabric of space. In reality upon going closer to the crack it was absolutely massive. Moments passed then a couple minutes...still nothing. The crack looming ominously, that is until finally the crack got bigger and bigger before space itself shattered like glass. Its edges glowing in vivid rainbow colors as the prow of a ship emerged. First a pair of massive cannons then what only could be described as demons maw emerged billowing black smoke and glowing red giving it that ominous sense of danger. Like a ship from nightmares it soon emerged fully, leaking steam left and right with places clearly on fire. Its thrusters on full blast as it headed right for the largest planetoid. Jets of steam and explosions rocked the vessel as its captain struggled to keep it on course...

Bridge:
The captain of the ship struggled to keep its systems from blowing up one after another but was in a loosing battle... Finally seeing the Wielden colony she slammed her hand on a tablet like device built into the ship. A blue arcane circle surrounded her hand as she sent out a distress call. "This its the captain of the ship Titania. Requesting permission to perform an emergency landing. I repeat requesting the permission for an emergency landi-[static]" the signal suddenly cut off as another ship rammed righto into the rear of Titania and exploded upon collision. Luckily Titania's armor could take it as only the mainsail engine was obliterated, leaving the ship and its captain unable to slow down anymore.

Colony:
From the streets of the colony Titania could be seen approaching as its red glowing maw spat streams of black smoke and an explosion of an unseen origin sent the ship hurtling towards an old looking runway with no signs of it slowing down or being under any sort of control.

Alarms rang in the general vicinity of the yamato class ship as it tore through the sky, obliterating asteroids as it meteorically descended toward the primary planetoid of Wielden colony. Coming to action within seconds was several emergency rescue division members, among them a herculean Watu with a bright red rune on it's front framed by a heavy yellow and black striped hazard-warning construct. "Slow the ship as much as you can!" Instructed the giant rocky figure. Several mages, of human, Coeti, and Chorda lineage stood behind their apparent leader, all raising their arms to the sky. "Together, now!" The captain of the ship would start slowing again, as the group of rescuers strained hard to bring their magical might to bear to slow the enormous vessel via telekinesis spells.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to contact the captain, a coeti within an air tower activated a device of their own. "A runway is cleared three degrees to your port side in one kilometer." They ran the message through in the captain's language, resulting in their's being slightly garbled by their coeti voice box. The rescue team was directed to that same runway, diverting their telekinesis to steer the ship towards the landing strip.

With all of their might and power the ship moved a bit, slowing down but it was not enough as chunks of it that the spells clung to tore off. Guns breaking an entire section three full decks shearing off and taking the tail rudders with it. The ship let out a mighty roar as it entered the atmosphere...almost like it was alive its roar sounded ancient and dangerous. Another explosion rocked the ship, pushing its nose down and making its entry angle too steep.

Inside the ship the Captain felt a sudden slam on her ship as the spells hit it with the intent at stopping it, making her slam into the console. With the systems damaged and several core spells failing all she received though the comms was "3 degrees port" before that went too. She looked at the ships heading in relation to the planetoid...luckily the artificial gravity spells were still working but god knows just how long those will last. "Im sorry old friend but i guess this is the end..." She said giving the ships console a little pat as it roared again billowing more smoke from that ominous red maw. "Then lets do this together." The captain said a tear rolled down her cheek while she aimed a hand down at the floor and a bit to the starboard side. "Awaken!" She called out, making a white clawed gauntlet appear on her arm that was aimed down.

"Spirit of the fire respond to my call and lend me your strength." She chanted as her arm and the gauntlet lit on fire, heat rising rapidly to the point even the air around her palm turned to super heated plasma. The spirits sealed within that gauntlet protected from damage but it still hurl like hell. A bright purple arcane circle suddenly appeared in the air surrounding her palm and several smaller concentric ones around and up her arm. visibly drawing energy from her the circles pulsed like a heart beat. "Boom..." Was all she said before a beam burst from her palm and down into the ships floor, making the ship roar once more as it cooked through the metal and its hull.

A bright red spot appeared on the starboard side of the ship...in creasing rapidly in size and intensity until it was too much for it to take as the beam erupted from it with a mighty foghorn BRRRRRR! sound that could be heard for miles. The beam pushing on the ship and correcting its heading while obliterating everything that the beam hits.

"Keep trying!" Their Watu leader called, as parts of the ship were shorn off by the attempts to slow it were proving barely effective. They kept re-targeting the ship as it's parts came off and flew backwards, raining down in the thankfully empty and rather huge field surrounding the landing strip or scattering into the space in the asteroid field that comprised the sky above the planetoid.

The ship was unfortunately heading directly towards a house with someone inside, and only seconds before they would collide. The person inside noticed this and screamed, before being flung out of the way by the Watu who saw them, launching them at barely survivable speeds through the air out of the way of the oncoming ship.

When the enormous beam of energy was blasted out from the bottom of the ship, several people ducked as an enormous gash started forming in the ground in the laser's wake. The beam disrupted power flow lines beneath the ground as well as water pipes, causing both to erupt in an enormous explosion of steam and mana, creating a massive updraft.

The updraft finally proved to be right as it lifted the nose up with the ship flying over the emergency responders team while the beam flickered off like an old light bulb that simply had nothing left to give. the captains arm still burning and glowing with intense heat grabbed onto something nailed down to the floor and braced for impact.

The rear scraped the ground leaving more plates and chunks behind while digging a deep ditch through the runway, making the front slap like a whip onto the ground and shatter the locks of this ancient ships detachable bridge. while the main vessel came to a grinding halt while leaving a fiery trail of destruction in its wake the bridge flew allot further before hitting the ground too. with chunks of the main ship still attached to it, it rolled a couple times as it also came to screeching halt with sparks going in every direction.

The main part of the ship still burning intensely and letting out blasts of steam its maw ceased it glowing as the smoke also stopped billowing out. and with one final groan of defeat the frontal cannons slumped down as the ship entered its eternal slumber....its last journey finally at its end.

Directly above the team a previously invisible barrier shattered from the beam that hit it, as all six of the rescue team members watched the ship fly over them. As soon as it passed they each immediately started running for the ship, only catching up as it hit the ground. "There is at least one aboard, you four check the main ship while we check the bridge."

With that the team separated, with the watu and a coeti levitating and slithering respectively towards the bridge of the crashed, now smouldering ship. “Quickly now, we don’t know when it explodes or even if. No chances.” They both quickly tore an opening in the side of the ship and entered. “Hello? Are you alright?” The coeti called.

The main ship seemed to be empty just random bodies of ancient automata scattered about. the corridors filled with ancient technologies no longer use by any race. steam billowing from ruptured pipes while fires raged in various corridor while an explosion is unlikely the ship was still plagues by the exploding boilers as steam pressure built up. One of the automatons grabbed the leg of a rescuer and looked at him with fading glow in its eyes. Without saying a world it collapsed on the ground. On the inside nobody alive seemed to be there.

At the bridge though there was a different story. The metal while ancient was still as tough as diamonds the ancient warding spells doing their job at keeping in in 1 piece. The could hear somebody moving about in the inside followed by the screech of shearing metal as Mizumi ripped the tablet out of the console. a bunch of foot steps later the steel door would suddenly buckle as something hit it from the inside. then again and again as the steel stretched and warped before it was too much and the door blew out and when clattering across the now completely destroyed runway. in the doorway they would see a short woman standing with a tablet in one hand while the other was covered by a red hot glowing gauntlet, her arm still ablaze as she was connected to the fire spirit residing within the platinum shift.
