The mid-day sun bore down over the white sand beaches as the two children played a the water's edge. The foamy surf of the ocean tickled their chubby, tan toes,, reaching up onto the land at high tide. A hot breeze wafted through, tickling the palms but offering no real relief from the heat. A little girl no older than 4 was kicking at the waves and squealing with delight while her bother was poking his toe into a flubbery jelly fish that had washed up with the tide. It wiggled and jiggled with each poke of his sandy foot while he giggled.

"Kati! How many times do I have to tell you? Don't go near them! They can still sting you on the sand!"

A mother's voice called to the boy and it was a mother's voice that was promptly ignored as the boys grinned widened.

As another wave came in, the two children watched as another jelly fish came tumbling in on the surf. Except this was much bigger. Much, much bigger! It was not a jelly fish but something else. The creature rolled and flopped on to the sand, making the children scream. The mother heard yelling and came stomping over from the bushes where she was picking berries. "I told you not to touch the jelly-"

Her eyes laid on the creature crawling toward her babies and she left out a blood curdling scream before snatching them up, away from the monster.

Monty lay still and unmoving in the sand. Seconds passed. Then, suddenly, he started into a fit of sputtering and coughing, seawater clearing from his mouth and lungs. He tried to lift himself onto all fours, wings draped down his sides and tail dragging in the sand as he crawled blindly away from the water.

"Back! Get away you demon!" cried the mother as she kicked sand at the monster before running away with more screams. The children began to wail and by the time she reached their village the watchmen and guards were running out to meet her.

"What's wrong?!" asked the captain as he half caught the woman from falling.

Between heaving breaths and shuddering cries, the mother clutched her two children. "Tacorite protect us! It was a monster! A demon washed onto the south beach and tried to attack us, Teheh!"

Captain Teheh's jaw squared as he gripped his spear tightly, and looked to the others warriors. "We'll go, just get into your hut, Kare."

Without another word, the Captain and ten of his warriors were running swiftly through the forest to the south beach. It didn't take long to spot the hideous creature slumped over in the sand, sputtering. Teheh showed no fear as he walked over and pointed his spear head at the demon's throat. "Don't move, beast!"

Monty lifted his arms up, trying to simultaneously block his face and ears from the sand as he kept coughing. Soon, he was alone on the beach, and just barely able to see.

His skirt was tattered and soaked by the seawater, the fabric nearly falling off of him as he stood. Before he even had time to take in his surroundings before he fell back again, still trying to catch his breath and gain his strength. Then, when he opened his eyes again, spears.

He squeeked a little, wide eyes looking up for mercy in the captain's eyes.
