Malice

Malice is a substance that has plagued Hyrule since long before Calamity Ganon’s first attack. It is a toxic substance that corrupts anything it touches, either killing it or turning it into a mindless beast.

Origins: Malice has always been seen throughout history, manifesting in the form of monsters and sludge in areas touched by evil. Throughout the years, many different hypotheses have sprung up attempting to explain how it forms, or why. For over 3,000 years, the most commonly accepted theory was that it was water contaminated by dark magic; this theory, however, was proven to be incorrect in 101 AC. Malice can form anywhere, but requires a large concentration of negative emotions to do so. The terror and despair brought on by the Great Calamity resulted in Malice that persisted one hundred years later, and the Great Phenomenon of 100 AC resulted in enough Malice to power Ganondorf to record highs.

Properties: Malice takes the form of toxic sludge, black with magenta tones, sometimes with a large yelllow eye. It is incredibly painful to touch, and has been known to kill someone with prolonged physical contact with it. Malice is part of the genetic makeup of the many monsters of Hyrule, and likely plays a part in why they are unable to establish a proper civilization. The monsters of Hyrule are primitive and bloodthirsty, often going out of their way to attack anyone on sight, and are not made of muscle and blood, like other races of Hyrule. Instead, bones and guts are all contained inside Malice, and when a creature is killed, their body disappears in black smoke, save for a few parts that are full of enough Malice to survive. If cooked properly, monster parts, and by extent Malice, can be used to make elixers with various effects. However, preparing them for a meal will almost always ruin a dish. It should be noted that, as Malice is not in its pure form when a monster part, it is safe to handle and use for elixirs; pure Malice is impossible to cook with and consumption of it by a human will inevitably result in an agonizing death.

Malice is linked to the Blood Moon, a random event in the lunar cycle that revives killed monsters. During a Blood Moon, the air becomes filled with Malice in a gaseous form, which, while not toxic, causes a stuffiness and pollution in air quality for two hours. At midnight, the Blood Moon revives the monsters, then vanishes, and the air immediately returns to its former state. Blood Moons were originally caused by Calamity Ganon himself in 10,000 BC, as he was about to be sealed away. Many legends have attempted to explain just how he did so, but it can be inferred that his own Malice levels were so high that this curse was not a problem for him to cast.

Due to the high Malice levels produced during the Great Phenomenon, Blood Moons now happen on a weekly basis, every seventh day guaranteed to have one.

Strengths: Malice can corrupt absolutely, and even kill absolutely. No one from any race is safe from its power, and will die from prolonged physical contact of just a few minutes. Only two people in the past 10,100 years have been able to effectively control Malice, Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf. Both are reincarnations of the Demon King Demise’s hatred for the Hylian Princess and her chosen hero, and as a result are able to wield it in ways others cannot, as if black magic. Calamity Ganon was able to create phantoms in the form of his Blights, which killed the Champions and overtook the Divine Beasts. However, he eventually became consumed by his hatred, and Malice corrupted him, turning him into a monster without rational thought in exchange for unequaled power. What little rationality he had left he used to attempt reincarnation so that he could return to his Gerudo form. In contrast, Ganondorf is far better at using Malice. He was able to finish Ganon’s reincarnation, rebuild Hyrule Castle, send Ganon out of Hyrule, pull the participants of the Great Phenomenon in, and seal Hyrule off from the rest of the universes. The reasoning for this is that he has the complete power of the Triforce, an object that makes its wielder indescribably powerful. The only other known Triforce users are Link and Zelda, though Zelda’s powers have diminished due to the levels of Malice she had to repel to seal Ganondorf away during the Great Phenomenon.

Malice is exceptionally potent against Sheikah technology. Guardians and Divine Beasts were easily manipulated by it, and the Malice Experiment proved its potency on anything made with Sheikah tech. Malice turns the machines into killing machines, with the only goal of killing and destroying everything in its path. This was the same fate that befell Calamity Ganon; when corrupted by Malice, his original goal of ruling Hyrule turned into the goal of destroying it.

Weaknesses: Malice can be eliminated through attacking an eye, if visible. Usually an arrow is the best way to stop it, though swords, axes, and other weapons work as well. A possessed Sheikah machine can be put down easily with Ancient weaponry; a single Ancient Arrow will kill a Guardian if shot in its eye. Princess Zelda had the power to purify Malice and eliminate it, but no longer has the ability to do so. Margreet Zelle is able to do this to a far lesser extent, as exposure to Malice during the end of the Great Phenomenon used a large amount of her power to keep her from dying. It is unknown if Link can purify Malice, but it is very likely that the Triforce allows him to do so.

The Malice Experiment: This was an experiment run at the Akkala Tech Lab in order to see exactly what kind of effect Malice had on Sheikah machinery. Using test subject Dell Honne, an android made up of 90% Sheikah technology, Director Robbie tied Dell down with chains and Dell consumed Malice. He immediately lost the ability to form words or communicate in any way, and attempted to escape his bonds, only for Margreet Zelle to purify him. The experiment revealed that Malice makes Sheikah machines turn into self-operating killing machines, with the only objective of destroying anything it can. Even a highly advanced android like Dell is susceptible.

Margreet nodded. "Absolutely! With you by my side, there's no way we can fail!"

After being given their wooden weapons, they were sent off into the Lost Woods, where fortunately little lamps guided the way. "Before we get too far ahead, we should come up with a strategy," Margreet said. "I can only imagine this trial isn't nearly as easy as it sounds."

The left path went on, and fortunately, led to another divergence rather than into the fog. Not there stood three paths: the left, one could hear a wolf howl, the right, the chittering of bats, and the center seemed clear of any obstacles.

"Do you have anything in mind?" Azel asked, turning to face Margreet. If the trial was about cooperation, then they wouldn't have too many problems working together since they were allies. He was always open to suggestions regardless.

The Great Phenomenon

The Great Phenomenon is a term coined by Dell Honne to describe a very peculiar event in Hyrule’s history. A Ganondorf from another world, with the power of the Triforce and power from the right hand of the crimson moon, came to this world. He fully reincarnated Calamity Ganon and sent him into another world, and pulled random individuals from other worlds into this world. His goal was to run an ancient ritual that would manufacture Malice, which is created as negative emotions reach all-time highs. Both Calamity Ganon and Ganondorf used Malice as a source of power; however Ganondorf was the only one who could actually control and manipulate it, as Calamity Ganon was corrupted by it in his quest for power.

This ritual required a group of random participants from other worlds to suddenly be dragged into a new world and be systematically killed off by select traitors within the group. The resulting Malice levels would reach incredible highs as fear, anger, confusion, and despair took over. In this ritual, five people died, two of them mercenaries chosen by Princess Zelda to defend the group. Only one, Margreet Zelle, survived, and due to her powers given by Hylia, the other participants survived, as well.

The timeline of events for the Great Phenomenon are as follows:

-Participants are pulled into Hyrule, arriving in different shrines. Ganondorf contacts his Traitors, Zelda contacts her Agents. Zelda tells them telepathically to arrive in Kakariko Village. There are Sheikah Slates in the shrines they use to teleport there. They meet Impa and Link, and Impa informs them all that to go home, they must free the Divine Beasts of Malice and defeat Ganondorf.

-The group travels first to Zora’s Domain, which is plagued by heavy rainfall. After stealing Shock Arrows from a Lynel on Polymus Point, they work together with Prince Sidon to free Divine Beast Vah Ruta of Waterblight Ganon. The first victim is found inside Vah Ruta. One of the Mercenaries, a young girl named Efi Oladele. Her death is the beginning of the group’s downfall, as no one is able to determine who killed her.

-Next, the group goes to Gerudo Town, the men disguising as women in order to get inside. Master Kohga, leader of the Yiga Clan is killed in order to reclaim the Lightning Helm, an artifact treasured by the Gerudo, which Lady Riju uses to avoid lightning strikes by Vah Naboris. Thunderblight Ganon is defeated, and Vah Naboris is purified. The next victim is a young woman named Oichi. Again, her murder goes unsolved.

-The group then travels to Goron City, where they rescue Goron Yunobo from the abandoned north mine. He helps them lower Vah Rudania's defenses, as Goron Elder Bludo has back problems. The group battles Fireblight Ganon, and purifies Vah Rudania. Brook is the next victim, and his death goes unsolved as the others.

- Finally, they arrive at Rito Village, where they find Teba at the Flight Range. Earning his trust by completing an archery trial, he assists them in taking on Vah Medoh, where they defeat Windblight Ganon. Mantis is murdered by a Traitor, and Lee, another Agent, is killed by Caster, who is not a Traitor. He confesses and is voted out for it, but as it turns out, he had betrayed the group in order to serve Ganondorf.

- Ganondorf suddenly takes over, due to the increase in Malice levels brought by these deaths, and drags everyone into Hyrule Castle. Now more powerful than ever, he readies to destroy everyone, but Margreet and the Divine Beasts attack, only to find Ganondorf completely unharmed. He throws Margreet into a pool of Malice, and is about to kill the others, when suddenly Link awakens powers given to him by Zelda, who has been drained of her powers. Link now seaks Ganondorf inside the castle as everyone escapes with Zelda in tow. Fighting off monsters and Malice, the group is heavily weary and injured, but makes it to Hyrule Castle Town, where Dell Honne is blown up by a Guardian, just one of the several Caster has waiting. He and an ambush from the Yiga Clan readies to kill everyone, but Mergreet returns just in time, purifying the Guardians of their Malice. In order to allow the group to heal safely away from Ganondorf and his armies, Margreet sends them to different shrines, which have been fitted with the healing technology of the Shrine of Resurrection.

Ultimately, due to despair and inability to cooperate, the Great Phenomenon ended in complete failure. The only way we will all get out of this alive is to work together. I'm going to make sure that once everyone wakes up, I tell them everything I've been working on, and maybe knowing to work together will help us this time.

He started fighting with the goblins, while one slime went towards the Peters and the other towards Jin!

Meanwhile, down below, the cyclops made a large swing at the ground, hoping to knock into the group. "Everyone! Hurry, get to the shrine!!"

Chronological Order of Events of Hyrule, Leading up to the Great Calamity, the Great Phenomenon, and its Aftermath

List of Revisions

1.2: Started recording years of events the same way Earth does, revolving around a particular event. On Earth, years are numbered in reference to the birth of Jesus Christ, a highly influential religious figure, as his birth represented a turning point in human civilization. In order to keep things running smoothly, the same has been done for Hyrule: the Great Calamity is the reference point; all years before it are referred to with [Year Number] BC (Before Calamity), and all subsequent years are referred to with [Year Number] AC (After Calamity).

1.6: Added information received from records within Hyrule Castle in order to explain the Great Phenomenon of 100 AC.

Timeline of Events

??? BC-10,050 BC: The Sheikah tribe begins and eventually completes development of Guardians and Divine Beasts in order to battle against future reincarnations of Demon King Demise, who has cursed Hyrule to suffer from his tyranny forever.

10,050 BC: A male Gerudo is born to the Gerudo people. He is given the name Ganondorf, and is the reincarnation of the Demon King Demise, though this is unknown at the time.

10,050 BC-10,001 BC: Ganondorf lives as a Gerudo, with the ambition to grow more powerful. He becomes king of the Gerudo in 10,020 BC, and becomes close to the Hyrule Royal Family. At some point (circa 10,005-10,003) he begins researching the potential of the substance known as Malice, and it begins to corrupt him.

10,000 BC: Ganondorf is completely corrupted by Malice, turning into a being made of pure Malice. Given the name Ganon in reference to legends of old, he is referred to as Calamity Ganon in this state. His quest for power changes to one of destruction due to the Malice’s influence. As he starts his attack, the Princess Zelda of this time and her Master Sword-wielding knight defeat the Calamity with the aid of the Guardians and Divine Beasts. Calamity Ganon is sealed away.

10,000 BC-63 BC: Hyrule continues to grow and prosper. The Sheikah are ostracized for their powerful technology, as the other races fear it may grow out of hand, and they bury the Guardians and Divine Beasts, and hide their Towers underground. The Yiga Clan forms from the Sheikah dissatisfied with Hyrule's restriction of their tech.

63 BC: Rhoam Bosphoramus, the future Last King of Hyrule, is born to a noble family.

57 BC: Princess Zelda is born to the Hyrule Royal Family. She awakens her birthright powers at the young age of 15.

34 BC: Princess Zelda and Rhoam marry. Rhoam becomes King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, and the Princess becomes Queen Zelda Hyrule.

25 BC: A prophecy foretells of Calamity Ganon’s return. King Rhoam orders an excavation of Guardians and Divine Beasts.

18 BC: Hylian Champion Link is born to a knight of the royal guard.

17 BC: King Rhoam and Queen Zelda have a daughter, Zelda, named in line with tradition.

11 BC: The Queen of Hyrule dies, leaving Princess Zelda the sole wielder of Hylia’s power. King Rhoam puts her under orders to awaken her power at all costs.

1 BC: Champions are chosen throughout all of Hyrule’s races to pilot a Divine Beast each. Link is chosen to be Zelda’s bodyguard, and later saves her from an assassination attempt by the Yiga Clan. Zelda is unable to awaken her powers. Monster attacks grow stronger in frequency.

The Great Calamity (Year Zero): On Princess Zelda’s seventeenth birthday, Ganon makes his attack. He creates Four Blights to kill the four Champions that pilot Divine Beasts, and uses his Malice to possess and control Divine Beasts and Guardians. King Rhoam and everyone in Hyrule Castle, Hyrule Ancient Tech Lab and Hyrule Castle Town are annihilated, and countless other towns and villages are destroyed. The last of Hyrule’s forces are wiped out at Akkala Citadel.

Link and Zelda make their escape to Fort Hateno, but Link is mortally wounded, and Zelda’s powers finally awaken in order to protect him. Zelda has Link placed in the Shrine of Resurrection to heal, and she places the Master Sword in Korok Forest, before she leaves for Hyrule Castle and seals Calamity Ganon inside.

Year Zero-99 AC: The Age of Burning Fields. The survivors of the Great Calamity escape to the outer reaches of Hyrule and begin to rebuild their civilizations. Things become relatively peaceful during this time, as monsters and Guardians do not attack settlements themselves, save for a stray attack on Zora’s Domain that was easily vanquished by King Dorephan. The Master Sword is kept guarded in Korok Forest, and life continues for the people of Hyrule.

100 AC (Pre-Phenomenon): An outsider of this world, an alternate Ganondorf, is approached by a man known as Fiamma of the Right. He introduces Ganondorf to even more power, and an ancient ritual that can make him one of the most powerful beings of all time. He also introduces the possibility of travelling between worlds and as a result, Ganondorf decides to take over this Hyrule. He orders his two generals, Ghirahim and Zant, to run their own ritual and make it as public as possible, while he runs his own in secret at the same time. The results of the Ghirahim ritual are currently unknown.

The Great Phenomenon (100 AC): Link awakens from his stasis and begins a quest to access every shrine. Ganondorf arrives in this world after Link finishes his final trial, in Hyrule Castle. He fully reincarnates Calamity Ganon and temporarily seals Zelda away. He sends Calamity Ganon to the Ghirahim ritual and pulls a group of participants in. Before Zelda can seal him away, he manages to seal off Hyrule completely from the outside, meaning that other worlds are unable to locate this one. The Great Phenomenon occurs (for reference of full events, see: The Great Phenomenon). Link is now weilding power given by Zelda and is now sealing Ganondorf inside Hyrule Castle, while the Phenomenon participants, save for Margreet Zelle and Dell Honne, are sealed inside ancient shrines in order to recover and wait for an opportunity to escape.

....Since when was Linkle the decide all for everything? Humility, she knew about, but since Reimu didn’t listen to the Linkle part much, she didn’t know about her and her importantance in this trial. But since someone made a decision for her, she didn’t really protest.

They would have to be careful, though with the lone Keese heading their way things felt as if they were on a bit of a rocky start. Moving ro the side to hopefully draw the Keese's attention, he didn't pull out any of his weapons just yet.

If successful, once the Keese got too close to attack, he would roll out of the way.

The inside of the lab is small, and seems more like a library than a lab, with all the books around. There is an unusual statue in the center of the room, and Dell is busy talking to a little man. There's also a woman perusing the bookshelves.

Up on the nearby hill, there were blue goblins and giant electric slime monsters. "Jin! Wait for me!!" Brook rushed up the hill, sword at the ready. "I want to get out of here! You get that orb onto the pedestal, I'll hold them off!" Turning his head to the side, he muttered, "Far better than fighting that giant..." He started fighting with the goblins, while one slime went towards the Peters and the other towards Jin!

Meanwhile, down below, the cyclops made a large swing at the ground, hoping to knock into the group. "Everyone! Hurry, get to the shrine!!"

Jin didn't have time to draw his sword, nor the hands to do so either. Yet the slime was going to keep coming after him... which meant there was only one solution, a page taken from Mugen's strategies. With a swift step, the ronin slammed his foot down into the slime to kill it, his sandal smashing into it before being swiftly withdrawn as he continued to run towards the pedestal.

“Are you kidding me? Fine. Let’s see how they react to you.”
Reimu shook her head at Linkle. She kept her and bow arrows close by. If the elf got mauled, then it’s her own problem, if she didn’t then it only made her more trustworthy, nothing more.

It was a stupid idea in her opinion, but hey, it was Linkle’s life. She wasn’t about to rescue her.
“They are ugly and about to strike, you mean...”
She muttered something below her breath.

"I'm sure we're close. We gotta be close. My feet are already getting tired."

Akane checked the direction of the flames again once they reached the lamplight.

@Yun Lee @Siege

Akuma looked at Linkle funny.... did she just... Hug a wolf!?

"Why do I question anymore..." Akuma said.

@Yun Lee @Jeremi @MelodyMeister

"Alright torches, do your stuff! Where we goin'?" Shallot said, looking at the torch.

@Yun Lee @Alex Azure

Peter- MCU and Peter-Amazing

"
Scooby Doo this?" Peter asked, looking at his older counterpart. The older nodded as the two would move in two separate directions that both headed to the pedestal to confuse the slime.

@Yun Lee

There were only two weapons in here, but both looked interesting enough.

latest

One item is a spear, long and durable, with one large pointed blade and two smaller points on either side.

latest

The other weapon was a large sword with a strange blade that looked as if it could be turned on. Though Silque might find it odd, Wakaba would be able to recognize it as an odd sort of chainsaw.

There seems to be nothing else in the shed. Perhaps it's time to move on into the lab?

@Kaykay @Takumi

Azel was able to dodge the Keese attack, but that certainly wouldn't solve the problem. "Azel! Run!! We can outrun them!"

@Takumi

---

The wolf would bite Linkle on the shoulder. Hard. The other two wolves now charged at Reimu and Akuma, ready to take them on!

@Jeremi @Siege @MelodyMeister

---

The embers now moved to the Northwest.

@Alex Azure @Siege

---

Jin's attack would defeat the slime, yes, but its electric charge gave him a powerful shock. He would be incapacitated for a moment, unable to move.

The other slime, meanwhile, chose the younger Peter, and lunged at him!

@Hida Tomonatsu @Lucky

Peter- MCU

The younger Peter had been keeping an eye on the slime as he ran away and try to quickly move out of the way. If he was successful, he would try to push his paraglider to ram the slime.

"..."

A lot of books indeed. A lab that looked like a library, huh? Well, not so strange in comparison to the libraries that looked like labs back home, Guy mused to himself in mild amusement. Even after all this time, it was still interesting to look over the similarities and differences between his world and this one. There was so many of both, it was a strange experience. It felt like home, but it didn't. It felt familiar, but it wasn't. But Hyrule was ultimately no Kimlasca. Home was home, and he needed to return.

Guy silently looked over the statue in the tech labs as he swam through his thoughts, not particularly looking for anything, but decided to marvel at the unusual statue for kicks.

As they headed Northwest, Zelda looked around the forest. "I've always found this place fascinating. The magic they use to transport you wherever the want if you wander too far in...it's inexplicable! I'd love to study it more..." She sighed. "Knowing me, though...I'd just get lost forever."

"Woah! Wait for me!" Margreet rushed to keep up with Azel, as a few more Keese flew at them. One got a bit too close, and Margreet had to block it with her shield, costing it a use. But thankfully, they were able to reach a corner of the path, where they seemed to be free of enemies...for now, at least.

"Whew! That was scary! Though the Keese here in Hyrule are weak, they're incredibly annoying..." Margreet seemed unaware of the fact that they were still holding hands...

@Takumi

"Woah!" Efi looked around the shed, picking up the essays and reading them. "Dell's done an awful lot of research, huh? I don't blame him; I would have done the same! ...had I not been on the island, of course."

The slime would be destroyed, but as with Jin, eould temporarily paralyze Peter through direct contact with it.

Meanwhile, those headed to the shrine would see the cyclops begin making its way towards those at the pedestal.
