Vitam et Mortem IC - Altsoba School of Sorcery

Nito

"...I have to go. I can't say much more than that unfortunately, but I have to go." Maybe Nito had been the type to keep every secret he could when they had first met, but since they'd started dating, that really wasn't his modus operandi anymore. The fact that he felt so tight lipped right now spoke volumes about the invitations they had received, and what the young prodigal cyromancer potentially knew. It was especially ominous that he seemed determined to stay tight lipped about it. "You can...accompany me, if you want to. I...I am not sure if this is going to be your cup of tea. These people...maybe not the ones we'll be meeting, but these people in general are people like my father...like...me."

He'd pause. "Not the good side of me that you see. Not the side of me that loves you, and values pure magical advancement. The side of me who...uses that book. And uses my family for my own violent desires. Still. I have to go. There are expectations of me."

-------

Gregori

Indeed the giant earth sorcerer would offer a hand, surprised when it wasn't taken. Still, he guessed it could be expected. He had just (accidentally) knocked Ishade down, on top of barely seeing him for weeks, except in passing. Not that he hadn't tried though. He had almost felt like he was being avoided, but that was nuts. The two of them had had nothing but great times together. The mushroom hunt, the forest hikes, the stargazing. Gregori had felt like he'd made another friend.

Which was important to him. Other than his cousin, his girlfriend, his cousin's girlfriend, and sorta-maybe that weirdo Russian girl who always seemed to have Nito on her mind, friends were a rare thing for him. "I didn't see you there. Sorry about that man."

At least for now, the letter was forgotten.

Satisfied with Sophie's recovery, Jera turned then to Hazel with a warm smile. She hadn't meant to exclude the girl, it just seemed like Sophie had been in worse condition.

"I think it would be wonderful if you joined us." Jera agreed, opening her body posture towards Hazel so the girl felt included. Her suite-mate looked tense, most likely shy because she didn't know her. The young girl took it upon herself to remedy that, it would be no good if someone she essentially lived with wasn't comfortable around her. She stayed angled towards Hazel when Sophie spoke back up about her ankle, nodding her head in satisfaction that the brunette would be getting help.

"I can copy any notes for you, even if you don't want to be there for the class you won't want to miss what's taught." She decided, smiling widely at Sophie to let the girl know she'd seen through her. It really wasn't hard to guess, who didn't like skipping class?

She smiled, excitement dancing in her eyes as she opened her mind to the possibilities of the night ahead of them.

"So," She began. "Everyone has a dress, correct? Are we going to need flowers? Where are we going to meet? Do either of you have any idea what all is going to happen at the dance?" Jera jabbered, words spilling over in her excitement. She had never been to many social functions, besides with her family. That she got to go to one now, and with friends? The young girl was nearly beside herself with joy.

Andalyn

"Hey," Andy looked up to find her friend taking a seat across from her, studying her intently. The one other person she actually talked to, not the people she just hung out with when she wanted to party. "Not much, really." She was... in a good mood, surprisingly. A stupid, silly grin on her face as she pulled out the pen she'd been looking for. "You going to the dance tonight?" More importantly, "Or the party... I think I know which dorm to track down."

Eva

If the little water sorceress had been confused by the appearance of the golden envelopes, she was completely baffled now. Nito kept very little from her and she'd grown used to the openness that came with their relationship. Her lips turned into a frown and she wished she could study that invitation once more, but it was long gone.

"If you're going, I'll be there." Her voice was soft, but her tone was fierce. She wasn't sure what this mystery envelope meant, but if it had anything to do with that book, then she didn't want Nito anywhere near it. After everything, after he had been touching it less and less, with how far they had come in the last month? She had made a promise and she has every intention of keeping it. So, they would be going. Together. Eva would offer her boyfriend a worried little smile and a quick kiss on the cheek before they began their practice.

Natalia

The Russian had finished up at the library in time for breakfast. She'd gone out the courtyard, foregoing food for the time being. Instead, she stood at a distance from the lake. They were there, of course. They were always by the lake at this time, together.

After the rejection that had followed her last forage to the lakeside, the redhead had not returned to watch Nito practice. Still, his words from their last conversation constantly replayed in her mind.

"Had I not already pledged my heart to someone else...."
"... I don't plan on allowing anyone, or anything, to hasten that potential outcome."
"You are a young, blossoming woman."
"... it's quite obvious that you... care, to some extent... so, I appreciate it. Truly, I do."
With Eva out of the picture, she would have had a chance. He had said it himself and though he spouted nonsense about giving his heart to that bitch, Natalia could read between the lines. He needed to be saved. Things between them had been slightly tense in healing class, but she'd been well-behaved, the picture perfect Good Friend, biding her time. But she noticed, as the month had passed... the shadows in his eyes lessened, the green color never returned... She was making him weak. As the Italian whore leaned over and kissed Nito, Natalia's heart clenched painfully. His torment would be over soon, she'd make sure of it.

Leaning against the trunk of a tree, Natalia would watch there from a distance, the other two far too wrapped up in their own business to notice the pale woman off in the distance, staring intently. The Russian was just glad that afternoon classes were cancelled in preparation of the dance. She had her own preparations to make.

Sophie

"I have a dress," nodded the other grade nine girl. Excitement filling her at the thought of going to the dance with her best friend and the budding friendship with her suite mate. If only their other suite mate wasn't such a weirdo, they could all go together. She tucked her hair behind her ear and with breakfast out of the way, she seemed much more energized as it usually went in the morning. "I just need to try it on," she murmured, unsure if it would look okay. "What about you, Blaze?"

Professor Bell

The Professor and Molly Sanchez were hard at work when Mia arrived with her 100watt smile. Both looked up and it was Molly who commented, "It seems your day is off to a good start." She exchanged a look with Bell. "It's about to get better, I think."

Professor Bell gestured for Mia to go ahead and take a seat. "As you know Molly is the nation's leading expert on Hunters and I've been asked to consult on several cases to identify potential Hunter work. It seems our very own Professor Loray and Professor Hunt caught up with a Hunter when they were off campus. A teenager, but still a Hunter. We've been asked to come in and study him a bit and--"

Molly interrupted, clearly excited now, "We managed to get the invitation extended to you. If you'd be interested in seeing a Hunter. You'd be completely safe, guaranteed." She added on, quickly. "You don't even have to go in the room with him, if you don't want." Both teachers looked at her, expectantly. Surely she'd be interested in this opportunity.

Mia

The smile didn't let up as she walked into the office, but it did make Mia blush when it was mentioned. "Morning Professor. Morning Miss Sanchez," she said with a nod to each of them in turn. The smile faded somewhat in exchange for a curious eyebrow at Molly Sanchez's words. She took the seat, letting her bag fall to the ground beside the chair as she waited to hear whatever it was that was getting them in a mood that wasn't 'let's start working straight away'.

At hearing the news, she nearly beamed. She cleared her throat, hiding her mouth behind a balled fist. When she moved her hand away, there was a polite, but still very eager smile on her face. "I'd love to!" She replied cheerily. Solid proof! Totally undeniable, at that point! And what about that hunter...they'd have to be quite dense to get themselves found, when everyone else has managed to stay hidden. And found by Professor Hunt, no less--

Her train of thought came to an uncomfortable stop. Professor Hunt had said that she was going to follow up on the lead Mia had gave her.

She cleared her throat again. She'd have to ask. "How much do we know about the hunter?" She asked, attempting to keep her face steady.

Charlie snorted in amusement at Kenlei's little shout. 'God bless America'? What was so good about eagleland? Shaking her head a little, she plucks a strawberry from Kenlei's plate as the girl questioned her on where that silly cape was. Really, why was everyone getting so caught up about it? She didn't like it, why should she have to wear it?

"Oh I hate that stupid cape." She pouts, crossing her arms as she glares at her plate. "It's too big and always getting in the way!" She states, annoyance flashing across her face as she remembered the numerous times that cape had foiled her adventures. After it got her caught when she was sneaking out of her dorm last night, she had thrown it into her trunk and planned to keep it there. Besides, the thing was almost twice as big as her!

"What's so special about it anyway? It's not like it gives us magic or anything. It's just there and in the way." She grumps as she reaches forward to pile as many waffles as she could onto her plate, before hoaridng all nearby maple syrup containers, actually threatening to attack George when he tried to claim some back.

"So," she asks around mouthfuls of waffle. "We doin' anythin' for halloween?"

Jake:

The fact Andalyn was in such good cheer was, frankly, unsettling. Don't get him wrong, Jake was ecstatic to see her in such fine spirits, but...the rumors had started up again which royally pissed him off. Looking at her sweet face he though to himself, I'm going to have to kill someone, aren't I? Well, perhaps if she could let it go, so could he. His best friend looked weird, though...maybe it was that goofy grin that she couldn't manage to suppress. Sitting back a bit, he slid a hand through his blonde curls. "I'd go to the dance if I had a date, maybe, but you know me...no one's good enough," he said with a cocky half-smile that Andy could most likely see right through. "A party though, I'm all about going to parties...." and he could possibly bring some of that weed his brother was pushing him to sell.

Andalyn

The brunette nearly rolled her eyes, but the goofy smile never left her face. He knew, that she knew better, but he still insisted on putting up a front. Even with her. "Yeah, the dance seems pretty lame." She agreed. She and Gregori had decided not to go, opting to spend some time at the Willow Tree, but she thought he might be down for a bit of an after party.

"Did you bother trying to ask anyone?" Prodded the earth sorceress, a hint of teasing in her tone. She knew that he hadn't, too afraid of potential rejection. Taking a moment, Andy would scribble down an answer to her homework, distracting herself from her friend. She looked up in time to see two girls from their grade walk by; they saw the troublemaker/prankster and the outcast sitting together. Their heads bent together in whispered giggles as they cast furtive glances at Andy and Jake. The former managed to catch the word "desperate" slip through their whispers. The happy smile faltered and when it came back up... there was slightly less of a shine.

Professor Bell

Bell and Sanchez exchanged another grin, delighted in their little prodigy's enthusiasm. Molly returned to her work but Professor Bell sat with Mia to answer her questions and explain that they would be going Friday afternoon to see the Hunter.

"Not much, honestly. He's been incredibly tight lipped and hasn't said much. All we really know is he's young, a teenager, most like. And male. He was found in Banff outside his house. That we know of there was a family living there. This kid, his sister, and his parents."

Blake

He chuckles, raking a bite of a scrambled eggs. "It's supposed to fit to your size, and grow with you throughout your years here. What's not magical about that?" There was a twinkle in his eye as he followed that up with "Are you sure it's your cloak that you've been wearing and not one belonging to someone else?" the idea was a little comical to him and he chuckled before digging into a few more eggs.

"And there are a lot of great things about Eagleland. Me, for instance." His toast was quickly devoured, as was the oatmeal he'd grabbed on the side of his eggs, toast, waffles, and a bowl of fruit. He shrugged, "There's a dance tonight. If you ladies don't have a date, I'd be happy to escort you both." It was a little flirty but after a few weeks of hanging out with them, it was mostly harmless flirting, rather than him trying to propose something weird. And look at him! Not assuming either of their date status. "Or, if you aren't interested in going we could find something else to do, I'm sure. Explore some parts of the school we haven't seen. Try finding one of those secret ways off campus." He shrugged.

Mia

The student gave a slight nod. Eric was a young teenage boy. He lived in Banff. He had a older sister, she was pretty sure, he’d mentioned it some time. She wanted to ask the name, but maybe it would be unnatural.

In her head, she took a step back from the scene. If she knew nothing, what would she do?

She reached into her bag and pulled out a small Pukka pad. She turned to a new section and wrote down what she knew for certain. Not only did it make it look more natural, but she could better work out how the info fit in with what she already knew about Eric. “Do we know his name?” She asked.

Jake
The prankster's cocky smile faded a little into something a little sadder than was usual, and he shook his head, "No, I didn't. I don't know who I would even ask." He zoned out a bit as he considered that a little bit more while Andy continued with her homework, but he tuned back in when some girls walked by and glanced over at them. Baby blues narrowed to slits, and he took his juice cup and slinged it at them. "Mind your fucking business," he shouted.

Kenlei
Dark brown, nearly black eyes stared at Charlie, "Eagleland?" Despite her horror at the name Charlie had just called her country, she began to giggle. Charlie was so funny sometimes. "And me, too!" she stated and went to high five Blake.

Plucking a blueberry from the bowl of fresh fruit, she popped it into her mouth. "No Halloween plans for me. I considered asking someone to the dance but didn't." In truth, the more she'd thought about who she might ask, the more she realized no one was worth asking. Golden brows rose as Blake offered to take them both, and she glanced sidelong at Charlie scarfing down her waffles and collecting all the syrup. "I'm in for the dance!" she stated, looking back at Blake.

"I've got no idea about that," she said, shrugging. "I'm pretty sure I have a dress, but I'll have to check if it fits or even exists. And I've got no idea what the party is going to be like. I've, um, never been to a dance before, so I can't be sure. We can probably just figure that stuff out later or just wing it by here." Hazel smiled at her two suitemates, shoving her plate to the side. "I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun- it is a party, after all." She didn't mention her ridiculous fear of what she thought it would be like. It was irrational, and she knew it, but she couldn't help but imagine a hot, humid room stuffed to the brim with bodies, all moving away from eachother and generating more heat. She didn't really want to be crammed into a room full of strangers, much less a hot one, but she'd signed herself up now, and she wasn't about to back down now. It's not going to be like that, it's a pretty big room, and while yeah, there are a lot of people, surely there won't be that many of them coming. She shoved down her fear and turned towards her friends, trying her best to focus on them instead.

The dark haired girl smiled, content despite the fact none of her questions had been answered. What she was really excited about was going to the dance with friends, something she'd never been able to do before. She'd been to many parties, but all political and all too stuffy for a kid her age. This was going to be different, this was going to be great.

"It's quite alright Hazel, I've just let my excitement get the better of me." Jera explained, joy still dancing in her eyes as she did her best not to wiggle in her seat. "If you don't have a dress, I'm sure we can figure something out between the three of us. We're not that different in size, are we?" She asked, tilting her head as she looked the other girl over. Bright blue paused around chest area on the dark haired suite mate, lips pursing as the wind sorcerer considered. "Well, perhaps in one spot there'd be a difference." Jera amended.

The young student grinned wickedly, ribbon swaying again as ideas floated through her head. What they could wear, how much fun they were going to have... 'Fun for a night, and mischief made with friends. Father would approve, though it is doubtful mother would. Either way, this is going to be a night to remember.' Her mind whispered, and Jera had to agree. She truly couldn't wait.

Settling into her seat and flashing a bright smile at the other girls, Jera set to planning.

"I have a few gowns hidden away Hazel, I will open my closet for you and you can browse at your leisure. Assuming you don't have a dress of your own in mind already. Either way, feel free to look. I hold no objections. Sophie, know you any spells for hair? I think we could have quite the fun sculpting art of our tresses. As for flowers to grace our wrists, I happened upon the nicest bunch of wildflowers the other day just behind the school..."

Jera went on, listing all the activities she could think of and providing ideas for what they could do the night of the dance. She was thrilled, terribly impatient for the night itself to take place. And quickly.

Heinrich

The woods were crisp on this morning, it wasn't as blistering cold since the snow had stopped falling for a couple days. Everything was covered with a new blanket of white, the only exceptions were some walkways and a small open area in the center of the meadow; Heinrich had melted away the snow for Anna, she was such a small person that she was sinking to her shins in the deep snow, he didn't want her catching a cold from constantly getting soaked. She had been consistently visiting and hanging out with him, 'making sure he was alright' as she would put it. But Heinrich slowly began seeing her mood brighten over those days, she even seemed to be sleeping better as far as he could tell. His sleeping was more or less the same, sleeping in the forest more often than not.

He would even offer to give her training lessons to the best of his ability, whether she would except would be entirely her choice. He figured it was the least he could do, with her visiting him and taking care of him so often. He would clear a small arena in the center of the meadow, even setting up some stick target dummies; Grabbing big enough fallen trees that he would cut to size and stand up. It wasn't very impressive, but it would do the trick he would think to himself.

Out of the corner of his eye he would see a flash of light, looking over to see Anna standing awestruck. It was an envelope of some sort she would tell him, which would stuck him as an odd thing if he didn't receive something similar. Someone had visited him in the night and dropped off a golden envelope like the one she had, he didn't think much of it at the time except for something to check out. Now having seen Anna get it as well peaked his interest, it couldn't have been a coincidence could it?

------------------------------------------------------

The day went by quickly. Most of the students were humming with the excitement of the dance (not to mention the half day of classes). After lunch the kids were free to do as they please, afternoon classes canceled for the day.

While the students goofed off, milled around, etc. the staff and volunteer group of students set to work decorating the dining hall.

By the time students arrived for the dance, it would be unrecognizeable. The dozens of round tables were gone and out of sight, the floor was changed from the milky white marble color, to a jet black scene, speckled with silver spots making it almost seem like the students were walking on the night sky. The walls were covered with deep purple drapes, and the ceiling was decorated with long icicle looking chandelier lights.

Standing at the entrance to the dining hall was a groundskeeper with a professional looking camera, ready to snap pictures of friends and couples who arrive.

The mood was right with low lighting, the little bits of sparkle, and the doors to the court yard thrown open to allow for some cool air to filter through the room. One of the grounds people had cleaned the court yard completely from snow and someone had brought in a large ice sculpture of the school's mascot to decorate the middle of the court yard. The snow covered picnic tables were gone and put away with just a few regular benches set in little spots around the large sculpture.

Sophie

The young sorceress was thrilled to be attending her first high school dance. She'd opted for a bright red dress, floor length with cap sleeves. And she felt beautiful. Her, Jera, and Hazel had taken turns doing each others hair and make up and she couldn't be happier with the group of friends she'd opted to go with.

The other two seemed excited as well and it was contagious. Sophie felt like anything could happen that night, and perhaps... Something would. When the trio of girls arrived to the dining hall Sophie blinked in amazement. The place was unrecognizeable... she was almost afraid to step on the floor, afraid that she'd fall deep down into the darkness but when her simple flats stepped on the smooth marble, she was on a stable ground. Her cautious smile spread into delight and she hooked her arms through the arms of her companions, ready to dance the night away.

Blake

His mother had sent him a nice sports coat that he'd worn for his aunt's wedding that summer and she'd insisted that Blake wear it to the dance. Her letter had been particularly stern that she'd better see a picture of him wearing it or there would be hell to pay.

He felt like he was looking sharp, with his sports jacket,a nice button down, and his pressed slacks. Anxiously the young grade nine waited for his 'dates' to arrive. He knew they'd gone and gotten ready together and he was.... slightly worried that Charlie had murdered Kenlie sometime during the process.

Meghan

The clairvoyant stood, awkwardly near the entrance, waiting. Vivian had encouraged them going to the dance and it would be the first real... date, even though Meghan was kind of just assuming it was a date. She'd simply mentioned in passing that the dance sounded like fun and Vivian had shown up with a set of entrance tickets purchased and ready to go.

Meghan had decided on a black dress to go with her white and black converse. The sleeves were quarter length, the front went in a slight and tasteful dip, and it stopped just at the knee. Her hair was piled in a messy bun. She'd put in the effort necessary to look nice, but she had not gone overboard like some of her classmates. She'd save that for the Winter Formal.

While she waited, her eyes scanned the others waiting for friends and lovers, settling in on a pale redhead who looked particularly venomous. There was a flash of something in Meghan's mind and her face dropped into a frown. She'd be keeping an eye on that one for the night.

Andalyn

After helping Eva and her little friend get ready for the dance, the earth sorceress had found Jake and promised to find him sometime after the dance for the party. Then she was off to meet up with Gregori for a few hours.

Natalia

The Russian's red hair was piled into an overly complicated bun on her head, a pearl clip used to keep some of the strands tucked to the side of her hair. Some of the toule that matched the outer layer of her dress (black and creme) were tucked into the bun as well. Her dress was a strapless ballgown style with a nude color with a black overlay of black toule. The top cut low, dividing the top piece, which was heavily beaded in black, into two parts. She work drop pearl earrings, no necklace, no bracelets. Her lips were painted red and her eyes painted the lightest shade of brown.

When she'd arrived to the dance, Natalia had peeked inside but had yet to spot Nito or Eva so she'd taken a picture alone and then wandered back out into the hall, watching for the couple. She didn't expect to get a picture with him, of course, but she did plan on walking in just a few people behind them.

Nothing in sight, yet.

Eva

Eva's preparations for the dance had taken place in her dorm with Anna. She was wearing a silver dress that showed a little more leg than she'd expected. Suddenly her mother's note about the dress in her last letter made a lot more sense. She found herself blushing as she was getting ready. Still, the sparkling off the shoulder dress was gorgeous and Eva felt decently pretty. After much consideration she opted for a no make up look which Andy gave her a knowing look for. She said nothing about it, but she walked with Anna up to the point where she was supposed to be meeting Nito, and there she waited for her boyfriend, excitment building at the idea of being on his arm for the night at the dance.

There was still that nagging thought of the little golden envelope, but she pushed that aside from now. Until then, they would be having a pleasant evening.

Nito

After parting ways with Eva, Nito would go up to his room to study, only for an hour or so. He’d take great care in his appearance, as he had on their trip to Banff together. His hair would be washed, oiled, brushed, and tied back into a braid that ending just past the small of his back. He wore no robes this evening, but his shoes had once again been shined.

The ever present amulet would be there, naturally, and it, too, would shine.

His father’s old three piece navy blue Hugo Boss suit had come in the day before; it had been a little big and Nito had taken great pains to tailor it to his person.

When he would finally arrive at the previously agreed upon meeting place, the suit would look like it had been handmade for his person. As he would turn the corner, he’d catch sight of Eva, hair piled neatly on her head, delicate strands framing her face. She had yet to see him, and instead was standing there, peering around, and he’d take a minute to drink her in. Then he’d approach, offer an arm, and that smile reserved just for her. “Shall we?”

Jera was nearly vibrating with excitement, bright blue eyes flying over the expanse of the room that looked so different now compared to earlier that day. It was wonderful, it was magical, the sorceress was nearly beside herself.

She'd had so much fun with the other girls, doing up each other's makeup and hair. Each of their dresses were beautiful, Jera herself in a dark blue number that's trailing gauze like fabric reached her calves in the back, fine and feathery like a beta fish's tale. It was strapless, accenting her fine form beautifully with a jeweled belt around her center. The flowers she'd chosen were orchids, starting light blue at the center and getting progressively darker near the ends of the petals. Pearl white jewels and beads were placed with the flowers, a blue satin ribbon holding the carnation to her wrist. Her nails were painted the same color as her dress and her eyes were shadowed by a light amount of lighter blue that only brought out her ice eyes all the more. She chose the short heeled shoes with white jewels that matched her dress's belt, the same ones her mother had sent her. They were short enough in the heel that they wouldn't bother her while she was dancing, but enough to give her calves a little shape. Her long, raven hair was laying in loose curls down her back, bangs framing her face while part of her hair was pulled back in dual braids on either side of her head, meeting at her nape to form a loose flower shape.

Her curls bounced as she wiggled in place, wide smile spread across her lips as she took everything in. She turned that delighted smile on Sophie when the girl hooked her arm through hers, admiring her and Hazel's work with Sophie's hair and makeup. Hazel as well, all three of them looked amazing. Blue eyes flitting to the other students, Jera amended her statement. They all looked amazing tonight. This was going to be a blast.

Vivian

All Hallows Eve, it was her favorite holiday after all; The one time of the year she had never felt out of place in a crowd, everyone costumed and make-up'd. Growing up she had always loved getting ready for that one night, covering the house with various scary and spooky decorations. To top it all off there was the endless candy one could achieve, outsmarting the other children who used small buckets and fake jack-o-lanterns, Vivian had always used her pillowcase. Staying up as late as she could getting as much as she possibly could, never quite satisfying her sweet tooth; one night she could not feel so strange around the other children, blending in with the rest of the Masks.

The dance was surprisingly long awaited, it was an event Vivian had been thinking of for weeks; What her hair would look like, her white dress and its little black corset and "decorations". Using a charm she had learned long ago, the spiders moved along the dress as if alive on the dress. The shoes she selected and had set aside days ago. Yes, it was one that she had been planning for. Vivian was giddy when Meghan had mentioned the dance, perhaps the Clairvoyant was just making passing statement about it, but it was an absolute joy for Vivian. Making sure to get the tickets well within time, she had made sure to ask Meghan properly.

Making a few finishing touches, Vivian was all set for the night. She hoped she didn't make Meghan wait too long for her, or at least be worth the wait. Her silver hair shimmered in the lights of the halls, she made her way to the dance as her heels clicked against the floor. Her usual serious demeanor melted away with a radiant smile, and equally shining eyes glittering in their gilded appearance. She would spot Meghan by the entrance, sauntering over to her. Tonight would be fun, and one not soon forgotten.

Heinrich

In the days prior Heinrich hadn't put too much thought into the dance, only that Anna might want to go. He had asked her just after the envelope she was holding flashed up into the air, figuring if their letters said the same thing that they "might as well be together for the night prior". He had promised her he would shower, and actually make an effort for it if she went. He would tell her where to meet and that he would see her later that night.

Feeling a bit out of place by the entrance he would wait for Anna, hoping she would actually take him up on his invitation. At least he would look good for whatever was happening later at midnight, not that he cared too much for his usual appearance. However, tonight he wanted to look good for Anna, actually show her that he could look somewhat decent.

To the surprise of everyone Heinrich actually owned a suit, a deep red one that he wore with a white bow-tie. His usually shaggy hair that he always left a mess, had been washed and shockingly cut; He styled it to stay out of his face, allowing for his deep green eyes to be revealed. The young fire mage looked sharper than ever, almost unrecognizable from what anyone would have remembered. Hopefully not too unrecognizable for her to see him.

Kenlei

With a hot pink kaboodle of makeup under one arm, dresses and curling iron in the other, Kenlei had arrived at Charlie's room prepared for battle. Enlisting Charlie's roommate to lock and guard the door, she barreled in and dropped all her stuff on Charlie's bed. "Charlie, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. If you choose the hard way, I will use this on you," she held up what most likely appeared to Charlie to be a medieval torture device but was instead a simple eyelash curler. Sliding her fingers into the finger holds, she made it click together a few times threateningly.

By the time she was done with Charlie, the girl looked....like herself but perhaps a cleaner version. Kenlei had brushed Charlie's hair and then curled it with the curling iron until the curls were tamed. Then she had looked through Charlie's closet before deciding they were all hopeless, and so she used one of her own roommate's dresses she had brought with her: a long, simple sheath of dark purple chiffon with a ruched bodice and sweetheart neckline. Charlie's makeup was not done over the top: some concealer, base, powder, mascara (which took three tries because the other girl kept blinking), the slightest touch of purple shadow, and nude lip gloss. "Now find some shoes because we do not wear the same size. Surely you have something in your closet." Hopefully! Though, the fact that the dress was floor length would surely help.

When it was her own turn to get ready, Kenlei straightened her honey-gold curls to fall in beachy waves back from her face, instead. She dressed in a short turquoise dress with a sparkly rhinestone belt. The skirt of the dress was pretty organza curled at the edges into curlicues. Her own makeup was a bit more daring than what she had done for Charlie with black eyeliner, smokey lids, pink lip gloss and all the rest. Dangly rhinestone earrings dripped from her lobes, and a matching necklace graced her throat above her own sweetheart neckline. She slid her feet into strappy, silver sandals.

"Okay, let's go show you off!" She bounced excitedly, took Charlie's hand, and the led the way from the room.

Anna

Anna couldn't have been happier that Eva decided to get ready with her. If she hadn't, she would have been getting ready alone, since the other girls in her dorm had all gone to a different room to get ready. Her sister had been the one to send her a dress (she was far more fashionable than their parents). The dress was an adorable white and blue one. Always thinking of her short younger sister, the elder had sent a pair of tall stilettos that brought her to a bit of a more reasonable height. She had been debating on a hairstyle the whole day, and finally settled on a pretty braid look that wrapped around the back of her head. Her makeup was just a few steps up from her natural, with a darker lip colour and a beautiful set of fake eyelashes. Her sister had sent over one final item; a long, glittery silver clutch that was perfect for putting a wand in.

She headed down to the waiting point with Eva, quietly chatting with her until she saw Nito coming. Eva only ever had good things to say about him, but Anna was definitely still intimidated by him. Not like she would ever mention it. She offered a tentative smile to the two of them. "I'll see you two around," she said. She turned and walked towards where she was meant to be meeting Heinrich.

For a second, she thought that he was going to flake out on her. Then she spotted his unmistakable green eyes. She was stunned. That was definitely him, right? She walked over cautiously. "Heinrich?" She said with a tiny giggle. "You look so...different! Like, good different." Really good different, she almost added.

Mia

It should have been a day to relax, but she was tense. Ever since hearing the news about the hunter, she'd been unintentionally linking things together, with info she didn't have. Making things up to confirm or deny her nagging thought. When the time finally came to start getting ready, she was thankful for a distraction.

Her father had sent a gold and emerald dress that swept the floor with it's silk-like skirt. She had a good pair of black flats that were practical and wouldn't look too bad if someone caught a glance of them. She'd chosen a black scarf to wear that she wrapped very close to her head. When it came to makeup, the three girls were divided. Mia had wanted something natural but Louise, being as she was, was all too eager to experiment the flashiest of things. Sarah was the one that stopped her from going totally overboard, and eventually they settled on neat smokey eyes and burgundy lips for all of them.

Mia fastened her corsage around her wrist, slow and deliberate. Even if he wasn't going to be there, she wouldn't be forgetting about him any time soon. The flowers were sitting in a glass on her desk, and a reply letter written to Chris with a copy of the picture they'd taken attached.
"You ready, Mi?" Louise popped her head around the door, avoiding looking to Maxine's side of the room.
Mia smiled. "Yeah," she said, walking out of her room.

The three headed down to the hall. Mia ran her fingers over the delicate petals of her corsage, a pang of longing shooting through her. Chris came back into her head, dragging Maxine and Eric along with him. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes. She squeezed them tightly shut, not stopping walking, following the sound of Sarah's loud heels, and when she opened her eyes again she was in the hall. A flash of light blinded her for a second, and she realised that it was a camera. She could only hope she didn't look as dumb as she felt she did.

"C'mon, let's go find the punch!" Louise said, grabbing both Mia and Sarah by the hands and dragging them off into the hall.

Max
Max grinned as the camera flashed, his arms around his group of friends ad they all made a variety of signs or jokes, huddled close together to fit into the frame. To say the blonde giant was happy would be an understatement, as he was almost sure that he wojld remember this night for the rest of his life. Everything was just so... great. Perfect, really.

Dressed in a
he had thought himself as being pretty snazzy. Then he saw Monique. When he had first seen Monique in her dress, long and black yet still snug on her, his thoughts had come crashing to a halt as he took her in, his thoughts simply not connecting as he gazed at the beauty before him. It had taken his girlfriend clicking her fingers in front his eyes a few times to snap him back into the real world, a self assured smirk on her lips as he had sputtered, at a rare loss for words.

She had taken charge from there, while he followed behind like some lost puppy, drinking in the sight of just... just her. Once he met back up with his group, however, his mind fully rebooted and he went into the usual routine of entertaining his people. He even pulled up a bunch of multicoloured lights, and imbued the ice statue of the school mascot with mutely glowing colours, which he liked to think added just that extra ambiance.

For some reason, he was nervous when he asked Monique for a dance. Took him almost as long as others did, and it was only through sidelong glances from his friends that he worked up the courage. Of course, she accepted with a happy smile, which sent him into a blissful state as they made their way to the dancing area.

Charlie
Charlie was not happy. Having been ambushed by her best friend(?) before she could even leave the room, and betrayed by Sarah, she had undergone hours of torture to 'make her look not like a caveman'. Makeup, that mascara stuff, even brushing her hair! What was the big idea anyways?! It was just Blake!

Grumbling a little as she caught herself slipping on her dress, Charlie crosses her arms as she peered into her closet. It was very clear to see where Sarah's half ended and Charlie's begins, because while her roommate had her clothes and shoes prganised in neat little boxes and rows, most of charlies was stuffed in the back and she had about three and a half pairs of shoes. One pair was her muddy sneakers that she wore on a day to day basis, another were brand new sneakers she couldn't bring herself to try and break in and the last... the last were the heels her mother had snuck in and enchanted so she couldn't get rid of them.

Looking left to right to make sure Kenlei didn't spot her, Charlie pulls out her brand new sneakers and swiftly slides them on. They wouldn't clack like the heels, but she was sure Kenlei's outfit would make up for it. Besides, the purple monstrosity was good for one thing and that was hiding her choice of shoes from her best friend.

It was just after Charlie stood up that Kenlei nabbed her and dragged her out of the room, with a nod to Sarah who ducked bsck inside to get changed herself. She always wondered why most of the girls in her grade listened to Kenlei. Shaking her head to clear the thought, she allowed Kenlei to lead her by the hand as the two made their eay towards the sight of the dance.

It wasn't long before they made it to the entrance, where Charlie spotted Blake hanging around the entrance just out of sight of the grounds keeper. Not letting go of Kenlei, she raises her other hand and waves enthusiastically. "Blake! Over here!"

Hazel hesitantly followed her friends, fear squeezing at her heart like a python. She was sure that it would be crammed, but the instant she looked up, her doubts were almost instantly wiped away. The room had been completely transformed, and it looked nothing like she imagined it would. She stepped up with her friends onto the marble dance floor, looking out at the people, who looked like colorful blurs passing by.

It had been a lot of fun to help her suitemates with their appearances, and the others looked absolutely stunning, but Hazel was hesitant to allow them to change her. She was afraid that compared to her friends, she was coming off as far too casual. She hadn't let them do much with her hair other than a simple braid looping around her head, and she didn't even let them start with makeup. Her dark blue dress was devoid of any patterns, and the sleeveless garment cut off barely below her knees. Well, it's a semiformal event, it's not like I had to get dolled up, she thought, shrugging off her worries. What am I doing, thinking about all of this? We came here to have fun! All of her anxieties seemed to dissipate at once, and she moved forward with new confidence in her gait. "Let's kill it, guys," she said, grinning.
