Stahlhiem College of Magic

Out of earshot Jagton saw Steven talking to the "green woman with the baby" the fire mage told them. He walked over there bringing Karma with him.

Baldred laughed at Mikida's reaction "Ha! Sorry kid, but I don't get paid enough to lie to students. But fair enough. Next time I swear." Replied the Void Born. "Now for why it's strange...you don't really know? You're not blind are you? I mean no offence but it's kind of hard not to see right given your species' relationship for the past several centuries. To my knowledge Wastelanders and Verdantkin never were known for getting along after the whole Crusade incident."

Borghild watched as Steven walks back into the hall, and she turned to leave to her class when she saw Jagton and his griffin coming towards her. "Oh hello student. Is there something I can help you with?"

"Yes the clearly insane fire mage said that you would take us to class, but do we go to different classes or do we work in the same class," Karma tilted her head in curiosity as Jagton said this.

Mikida blushes furiously at Baldred's response. "Wait, so, you can see through my illusion? But, my illusions are the strongest... Even the professors can't even tell that I'm using them. How can you see through it so easily?"

Baldred didn't say anything. He thought about for a second them laughed it off and tussled her hair. "Nice one kid. I'm over 480 years old. It's going to take more then..." He looks at her face and sees that she wasn't joking. "You're serious aren't you? And...no one else knows?" He said, brushing off her questions.

---

"You come study with me of course. First its 7 years of the basics, then the next 13 is your more specialized training." Replied Borghild. "Also you should be nicer to Professor Rilker. He might be rather...forward, but he's sweetheart. In anycase, I'm headed to my class to prepare for the first day of study. If you'd like you can come with me."

Mikida bows her head slightly, still greatly embarrassed that someone could see her true form. "Well, I'm not so sure anymore. If you can see me, then who knows who else can. But, as far as I can tell, nobody else could break through my illusions. But this means... you can see everything. Even the objects I'm disguising. Nobody else knows that I carry a satchel with me wherever I go. I can't even begin to express how embarrassed I am... You'll keep my secret though, right?"

Baldred knew that he should report this use of magic, but he looked at the girl's embarrassed and ashamed face and mentally groaned. "Look i don't know what's going on here but you sold me. Don't cause any trouble and I'll keep your secret safe. Just know that if you get caught, I can't bail you out got it?"

Mikida nods quickly, happy that she wasn't going to lose her greatest asset. "I'm grateful. I'll be sure to be a good girl so that you don't ever have to worry about it again." Walking back to her original destination, the witty Mikida points out, "By the way. To everyone else, I look like a 7 year old Verdantkin, so that might help if you wanted to figure out why that man attacked me."

Leaving a slice of toast in her mouth, Rahvi collected all of her belongings, slinging her bag over her shoulder and wrapping some food up in a napkin for Mikida, who must have overslept.
Hopping off the bench, Rahvi nodded at Ella, seeing Jagton and Steven conversing with Borghild. "They'll figure out the deal with classes. Let's go collect Miki and then we can all take the scenic route to class."
Walking towards the doors, still somewhat giddy from her first interaction with Rilker, she called over her shoulder. "Steven, beastboy, you coming?"
Giving herself a headstart on account of her boredom and short legs, Rahvi led the way back up towards their rooms. She was torn between a thirst for the new knowledge that waited for her in the classroom and the secrets held within the walls that she glimpsed at corners, hearing whispers from keyholes, and flitting lights across the ceiling. The very floor beneath her feet hummed with the unknown and Rahvi felt a hunger spring to life inside her to know as much of this chaotic place as she could find, whether the secrets were taught to her in classrooms or she dug them up from under the floorboards. This place would be hers. Already she could feel it settle in her ribcage, her soul reaching out to include this place in what she called home. She would know it as well as she knew herself, layer upon layer of the unknowable twining between the solid facts as inevitable as the sunrise and as solid as the stone around her.

Sharp eyes taking in every detail of the hall, it wasn't surprising that the first thing Rahvi saw when they met Mikida and a guard walking towards them was the dark bruise forming around her wrist. Her heart clenched and released, a hard weight shattering her reverie. The shadows were deep in this place.

Concern clear on her face, Rahvi enveloped Miki in a hug. "So you are awake. Replaced us with new friends already?" she joked, sensing that Miki didn’t want a reminder of whatever had just happened. If she wanted to tell, she would talk in her own time. Rahvi handed over the breakfast she had saved for her friend.

"I'll go with you. By the way my name is Jagton and this is Karma." Jagton said politely while intrudicing himself and his griffin. Not hearing Rahi yell for him.

"What is your name?" Jagton asked.

Mikida knew from the very moment that Rahvi approached that she'd have some explaining to do. With a bruise this large, anyone could notice it, and Rahvi shown herself to be extremely observant to detail last night. Though Mikida thought that she'd have to explain herself, she finds herself surprised to find that Rahvi simply hugged her, not even suggesting that she saw what had happened. Mikida looked at Rahvi with concern, trying to gather some sort of hint as to this response. Mikida simply returns the hug. Looking up anxiously, "Well, I've only been up for a little. I meant to join you all right away, but I got held up." Waving her hurt arm around she tries to show that it isn't as bad as it looks, but a small grimace of pain shines through her sleepy smile, "I'm pretty tough though, so I'll end up fine."

Mikida thinks back on last night, "But, ummm... Rahvi... Thanks."

Steven made his way back to the other first years and saw Mikida arrive. "Good morning. ...Did anything unusual happen to you on the way here? Actually, did anything unusual happen to any of you on the way here?"

"Well it seems like you're in good hands now." Said Baldred "I'm heading back to my post. See you around kids." The Void Born leaves the scene, returning to his patrol. Time went by and the bell rang 9 times, signaling the start of the class day. All the students who were still in the dining hall all stood up and left. The first years, with no instructions, followed the mob of students all walking the same direction. Our five heroes were all swept up in the mob, following the students. They reached a hallway with several open doors and standing next to each one is a Master Mage, in charge of teaching the students. Borghild stood there with a smiling face as she recognizes the first years.

"Ah there you are First years! Come, come, there is much to discuss." She said and the first years followed the teacher's instructions and entered her class. Inside is a small classroom with 20 desks and seat and in front is a chalk board and a lying just beneath the board. Once all 14 students take a seat, Borghild closes the door and walks up to the front of the class. "Now first years, before we begin the day, let us-" The Wastelander was interrupted when the door was opened by a Verdantkin Bladestorm, escorting in a heavily bandaged Thal. Thal had his face bandaged saved for his eyes mouth, his right hand bandaged and his other, the one that was injured, in a sling. The Prince limped over to a desk near the front. As he walked past he looked into the eyes of his attackers, staring right through them before taking his seat. the Bladestorm bowed to the Prince before leaving the class and stood guard just outside. Borghild was taken aback slightly by the event but she cleared her throat and continued on. "Now as I was saying, I wish to welcome one and all to Stahlhiem College of Magic. Out of all the positions I had taken at the College, I believe this to be my favorite as I get to see new faces every year. Now to start off, I wish to ask a simple question. What is magic? Any answers?"

"..." Jagton was being silent. For he didn't know the answer. Also he was a bit sorry for Thal. He was going to apologize after class. He went back to Borghild and tried to remember what his Grandfather told him about magic, but alas it was no use. He hadn't told anyone yet but he was able to use magic but it was for small creatures thankfully. He had been wanting to go since he learned about how he could control small animals like mice and rats. Since he had practice since he was 10 he could control an adult rabbit if he tried his hardest. Otherwise, he could control mice and other animals of the size easily.

"Close" Replied Borghild. "Those who are capable of using magic to alter the world around are known as mages, but that in itself isn't magic. Any other answers?" Every so often, a student would raise their hand and give their answer but all had been wrong so far.

Jagton raised his hand waiting to be called. He thought he knew the answer, but he wouldn't find out yet. Karma was laying down next to his chair watching the entire class. She was happy about all the people around her.
