❝ What a bother... ❞ Julius grumbled to himself as he read through a novel that he had with him at the Great Hall. All this time passes, and the more Julius felt like he was wasting his time at Hogwarts. If anything, this brief week off of classes was no different than to when the classes were still going. Definitely had something to do with how the strong blizzard made leaving practically impossible.

He could be using this time to study and practice spells that were new to him, but he simply... didn't feel the need to. Especially with the spell that he derived off of the blank slate that Gavin had shown him. It was handy to him to stockpile this type of knowledge. For now, he continued to read through his book, trying to tune out the rather loud conversation from the literal other side of the Great Hall.

Melody slammed her book as Swagglebone came in, it took her a few seconds or so before so until she recognised him. Despite him being the potions master.
“Ah..Fuuuu...dge. Nothing here besides me, Professor. I much prefer to practice my spells alone most of the time, What inn were you talking about, I don’t remember going to one?”
Melody hid the book behind her just as he came in, so he should be able to see it, unless he looks around. She kept the same bored look on her face despite her nervousness, and stared at Swagglebone. If she hid the book correctly, She could just say she prefers her personal space and then find another classroom later on, but if he saw it...
That was the biggest price paid for not locking the door.

He dun goofed.

"S-sorry Granny. I wasn't trying to offend! Of course your food is good, always. I was just referring to the fact that there hasn't been much this year because Headmistress Umbridge seemed to have made some b-budget cuts is all." Kit hurriedly explained, hands flailing about in front of him a bit. He instantly felt bad for saying such a thing earlier about her cooking now.

"I-I just worded it wrong is all." he added as reassurance and hoped Rio, or anybody, would back him up. The last thing he wanted was to be mean to little Grammy.

"Yeah, Granny, you make the best food!" Rio put his hands on Kit's shoulders, hoping to reassure his little brother. Of all the times for Granny to pop up... "Especially compared to my cooking. I managed to burn milk once-true story!"

Granny gave both of them a long hard look. "Worded it wrong alright, worded it dead wrong! Granny is a treasure and so is her cooking! Stave with out me you would! Umbridge always slags me too...well Granny knows secret...hehehe..." The final bits she mumbled to herself but for anyone with good hearing could hear it clear as day.

"Understandable, no one wants to share their failures with others," Swagglebone responded cocking his eyebrow as Melody tried to hide the book. "You can just show me what you're hiding or you will cry and show it to me. Either one is fine with me."

Melody always has a bunch of books on her, and she smiled as to say “Hiding what?”. Now, the girl is mindless and never thinks things through, so she’s acting entirely on nothing but maybe instinct. “You see sir, I was brewing some potions in your class and I just wanted to take a little for myself to examine it, A crime yes, but nothing major yes? Okay, I might have experimented on this potion quite a bit in my free time but still.”
Melody was kind of sweating now and glancing at the vial, although a similar colour, this was not a potion from Swagglebone’s class, rather, she brewed it herself.

Swagglebone was ready to raise his staff when Melody brought out the vial. "Created it yourself you say?" A bemused look on his face. "Then perhaps you wouldn't mind to drink it?"

Granny mumbled some more choice words and gave Kit and Rio a final glare before she wobbled away from the siblings leaving them to their own devices.

As the two were eating they could hear the talk from some of the nearby students about how they had seen Umbridge coming from outside, which was peculiar considering the massive blizzard brewing outside. No one in their right mind would go out there right now.

"And this is why you don't go off the beaten path. Pathetic." Swagglebone had a look of utter disdain as he leaned down next to Melody. "Hubris and stupidity always go hand in hand little girl." He took a vial out of his robe and placed it next to her on the floor. "Drink that to expel the trash you just consumed, all in a futile attempt to hide things from me. What a sad girl you are."

Melody seemed to forget what happened for the first few seconds,but then a wave of cold terror came back as she noticed the professor, but she won’t show it. No crying before it’s over, right?

Well, If it’s one good thing, her contraband seemed to have disappeared, her book, her special potions, all of it. And with the false lead of merely experimenting with potions. The chances of Swagglebone finding it would be abysmal, even if she merely made the stuff invisible instead of teleporting it somewhere, Alderwood wands have a useful knack for nonverbal spells. Maybe that was why Melody looked worn out as well as badly shaken.

Professor Swagglebone hadn't been impressed by Melody from the very moment she got on his radar and this entire debacle had only made it worse. As she reached to gather her things Swagglebone slammed his staff to the ground so hard sparks flew off it. "Put everything on your person on the table over there." He glared at her. "And when I say everything, I mean. Everything."

Oh, great. Umbridge was back at it again. "Hey, Kit, I need to go look for Ross. He borrowed some money from me and I want it back." A basic, simple lie, with no time for Kit to question it as Rio went off in search of Juno. With any luck, this could be a lead on what was going on.

“Clothes don’t count, right? Well, well, I haven‘t got very much on me. Gah! But no need to say it twice, Professor!”
Melody said it kinda a bit stiff, but that was becuase Swagglebone knew what she was up to likely. But continuing her lie, she placed only her study books, her wand, her unimportant potions. She had made her contraband books, her gift potions and her collapsible cauldron invisible through a spell however. They were already hidden themselves for a layer of protection. As she put it on the table however, her hand was still on her wand for a bit before slowly removing it. Even then, it looks like she was prepared to get her wand and perform a spell.
“There, there, nothing too, yes? A few co-curricular potions and my heap of normal library books.”
Melody kept her nervousness away and stared back at Swagglebone, although it seemed to be more so an arrogant one rather then a intimidating one as she made a small smirk.

Juno herself was strolling idly through the halls. It had been quite some time when she had any time to herself like this. Christmas was naturally always quite a hectic time for every student, especially for the Prefects like her when students were oft up to little good more than ever. It didn't help that the blizzard outside restricted each student to inside the castle, so the halls were rather stuffed as it was, but she didn't mind. Being a busybody as she was took her mind off from the year's mysterious happenings as it was, between Sandra, the incident at Hogsmeade, Halloween night, and so on. Thus, when she found herself with little to do, she couldn't help but end up thinking back to such incidents, and wonder what it all meant. It was honestly a miracle that she could still sleep at night these days.

Upon bumping into Rio, who Juno observed had something of a serious expression on his face, the Ravenclaw stopped, tilting her head lightly. "Oh, Mr. Myre. Hello," she said with a wave. A part of her knew that if Rio was showing his face near her, it could only mean that trouble was nearby. It wasn't anything personal; it was just that it seemed trouble arose whenever she interacted with him.

Like when an unstoppable force met an immovable object.

Still, it wasn't like it was really his fault. It was all just circumstantial. But... even so...

"Can I help you with something? You look rather... austere."

"I can smell the lie on you, girl. The longer you prolong this the more severe the punishment will be. Or are you too stupid to realize that you are drowning in your own folly?"

Melody’s behaviour was obviously quite unhinged, Changing one mood to another isn’t normal after all, while she was rally scared, her emotions turned to one of apathy, or is it an act?
Well, anyways, She pointed to a corner in the room, and like magic, it looked as if the hidden stuff came out of thin air. All her potions, books and her cauldron.
Melody came in front of the contraband, and looked at Swagglebone with a once again, stony look.
“Yeah, you’ve seen it already, take a look, but I’ll much rather get my potions back tomorrow so just take the books. Professor.”

Chapter 4 – Boy in the well

Despite the craziness in Hogsmeade once evening arrived everything seemed to have returned to normal with no more weirdness coming towards any of the students. That’s how it was going to be for a few months to follow. Some normalcy brought back to the halls of Hogwarts.

December 24, 2002

This was the harshest Winter weather in over fifty years, or that’s what the rumors were saying. Looking out the window there was only white as the snow and winds whirled around. It was outright impossible for anyone to get home due to the weather forcing everyone in Hogwarts to stay there over the holiday.

Nothing wrong with that either, a lot of friends, free food and most importantly, no actual school for well over a week! The school had been suitably decorated to fit the season with a huge Christmas tree in the Great Hall as well as the halls decked with bells and everything else that fit the season. Despite it being around noon it was still dark outside thanks to the blizzard outside, no one dared to go outside even to walk in the courtyard. The snow was relentless in its assault. Everything was covered in white and anyone who had tried to go outside didn't get far in 15 inches of snow.

The mysteries that had surrounded the school had subsided during the months. No deaths or disappearances, at least as far as the students were concerned, nor any monsters roaming the halls. Whatever had happened in Hogsmeade seemed to have just been a fluke, no doubt caused by all the stress that the students had accumulated during their time here. Now they could sit back and relax inside the cozy castle as the harsh winter raged outside. Perhaps today was going to be yet another good day.

Why did it seem that it was always on this side of the Great Hall? He couldn't even say anything to Rio before he left. So he tuned most of the chatter out, until Julius showed up, causing him to jump slightly.

Turning to glance up at Julius for a moment, he looked back down at his plate of food in embarrassment at being startled.

"Sounds like a bunch of rubbish." he muttered under his breath. Then again, after what happened on Halloween, was it really impossible?
