Will had bid goodbye to Lowee and MIkasa, choosing to go off on her own and explore. The Heart seemed to be drawn to something in the desert, but Will couldn't figure out what it was. She had chosen to fly over when she saw a vehicle stopped nearby and assorted characters talking about or disembarking.

The Keeper landed nearby, Quintessence flickering between her fingertips as she could be seen a few paces out.

"I think it's quite cute, really. Her personality is like a stark contrast to Edna and Lailah, wouldn't you two say so?" Alisha Diphda, princess-knight and member of the Coalition, asked her two friends Sorey and Mikleo about Seres, crossing her arms. "Of course, just as humans, they all have their unique qualities, you know?"

Just like with Sorey, Alisha was quite excited at the prospect of meeting the supposed very first shepherd, even if one could say the circumstances were a bit more dire than optimal. It was an event that didn't exactly happen every day; meeting someone who was practically an ancient historical figure. During the ride, she couldn't help but smile fondly at the sight of Sorey and Mikleo talking amongst themselves; the cheerful energy both of them exuded could almost make Alisha forget about the dreary and dark environment outside.

As it were, perhaps that was the whole point of being the light within the darkness.

To Artorius, she simply nodded, the spear hung on her back freshly sharpened and prepared for any potential encounter with malevolent forces. "I'm ready! Whatever might be lurking within those ruins, they'll surely be purified without any difficulty!" She exclaimed enthusiastically.

The Ashen Ruins Exploration

Artorius Collbrande was not only the leader of the Exorcist branch of the Coalition but the first Shepherd in the history of his world. He would not have known the latter to be the case if not for the peculiar existence of a pair of boys from one thousand years in his future, pulled outside of their world much like he had been. As it turned out, the history of his world was largely unknown at such a time in the future, but Artorius knew how far his legacy would spread, considering that one of the young boys, Sorey, he had met was a Shepherd himself.

Sorey and his malakhim companion, Mikleo, presented Artorius with some confusing thoughts. His legacy continued in some form in their history, but what was his future now that he been pulled from all that he knew and faced with a multiverse of possibilities?

First and foremost, Artorius' mission had not changed. He existed to eliminate malevolence, no matter the world or scope of such a threat. His task today was to take a team down into the ruins of Ash and uncover their mysteries. The planet's history did not matter to the Exorcist, who instead found interest in the scouting reports that stated pockets of malevolence existed below. Artifacts cursed with a dark energy could provide the Coalition with valuable insight into combatting the threat known as malevolence. For Artorius in particular, he was hoping to find just one matter of major importance.

Artorius, as well as his fellow Exorcists Sorey and Mikleo, were inside an armored vehicle with those the Coalition had managed to gather for this mission.

Sorey and Mikleo chatted excitedly to themselves, worked up over being able to explore more of the ruins on Ash. Artorius had found that Sorey looked up to him as a sort of mentor ever since he learned of Artorius' status as a Shepherd, which Artorius was fine with facilitating, for It had occurred to Artorius that Sorey possessed an ability to cleanse malevolence that he did not. Sorey revered him all the same, though Artorius had not understood the boy's explanation of the ability. It was clearly a matter to be found in the thousand years between them, but the elder Shepherd had not cared to obsess over it. If Artorius were to successfully eliminate malevolence, there would be no need for such an ability in the long run.

The truck stopped at the ruins entrance, allowing everyone to get off. Artorius went first, moving quickly to take in the scene.

At some point in Ash's history, a more modern building had been built over the older structure, but now both stood destroyed together. Nodding his head, Artorius called out for his own malak companion, Seres. "Seres, tell me, is the entrance here still usable?" he asked out loud, and a woman appeared before him.

wnqRrlG.jpg

"... Yes, there has been no damage to the entrance since the Coalition verified its existence."

With that, Seres disappeared and Artorius heard the others leaving the vehicle now.

"Is Seres shy?" Sorey asked from behind Artorius. "I mean, it's fine if she is! She just never seems to come out unless you ask her to, Artorius."

Artorius turned around to Sorey, who received a small punch in the arm from Mikleo. Sorey laughed it off. "In a way," Artorius said. He then looked past Sorey to the others in his group.

"Is everyone ready? You've all been warned of the danger already, but let me stress that we do not know what exactly we will find in the ruins."

A blue skinned alien stepped out of of the vehicle and took to her surroundings. "It's really a honor for me to join you all," Liara, member of a the Coalition. While she had always been interested in trying to find information about the Protheans in her own universe, the possibility to inspect ruins of another world was too good to pass up. "I believe we all have the necessary equipment to manage should the need arise."

Lwai had noticed Will take her leave and waved. He didn't know however, that he'd just eventually end up in the same area as her again after speaking with a few Coalition members he ran into later on.

After overhearing of the ruins and where a few Coalition related members would go, he offered his scanning abilities and such and did his best to keep his excitement at the thought of adventure in check in case he was denied the opportunity, since he wasn't a memeber or anything. That didn't stop the prince from wanting to help though. The android simply took a look at his new companions as he stepped out of the vehicle before looking to the supposed leader of the assembled party. "Ready to go sir."

"I'm sure no one here expects a nice little tourist romp."

Remy spoke dryly, but it was true: Ash was far from a tourist location these days. The aftereffects of some old school event known as a Murder Game had left this planet reeling, and anyone who set out on even the most innocuous mission had to know better than to expect it to be easy.

That being said, though...Remy held his tongue for a moment. Oh. Right. That was an incredibly standoffish thing to say. He really needed to work on that: turning over a new leaf and all. Moving on and working for the greater good involved being less of a dick to people, and hey. He didn't want to give his father the honor of being remembered and hated. That bastard could be forgotten.

"Ahem. Uh...in any case, I'm ready. Whatever happens, uh...this will be s good group...and stuff."

Nailed it.

❝ UNDERSTOOD. I am prepared for what may HAPPEN. ❞ Dlanor plainly addressed her status. There wasn't much small talk to come out of her after that. For her, this was a task. Tasks taken by her were to be completed. That was all this was for her. After lending her efforts to the Coalition after the Monokuma Incident, she could admit that the apparent scale of her occupation here and the work she's done back in the Metaworld were drastically different. So she personally felt curious on what to expect here. Not like she would let that subtle interest show on her emotionless expression.

Will folded her arms under her chest and fixed the group with a confused expression.

"Not my ideal place for a picmic. You guys want to tell me what's going on here?"

Lwai made himself known, moving from behind one of the taller in their group to see who it was and a look of recognition appeared when he realized it was Will. "Oh, hello again Will." he greeted.

Artorius considered Nathan's question for a moment, turning to look back at the ruins. "... Not much," he said. "It was likely a temple or a place of worship during ancient times. The newer structure built on top is unfamiliar to me, but the Coalition believes it was built for mining purposes. Valuable minerals exist in the ruins, which may have been why the temple was created in the first place."

BxlTcyA.png

Mikleo crossed his arms and made a frustrated sound. "Ugh. Think about all the damage they probably did to the original temple. What were they thinking? It didn't even matter in the end, considering what happened to Ash."

oxoegWc.png

"It's okay!" Sorey declared, placing a hand on Mikleo's shoulder. "No matter the damage, we're going to bring whatever this temple's hiding to light. We'll make sure those ancient people's voices are heard." He then turned and smiled at Alisha. "And it's just as Alisha says, we'll purify any of the malevolence we find!"

Artorius shook his head. "I'm afraid there will come a point where it will be too much for even your ability, Sorey. Not all malevolence can be purified, but that is why the most effective thing we can do is to find the source of such disturbances."

The appearance of a newcomer caused Artorius to pause. He looked at Will as if she was some kind of minor annoyance, recognizing that she did not have the look of the usual threat you would find in these parts.

"... This is to be a sensitive investigation into these ruins," he said gruffly. "It is not a place for civilians to wander carelessly."

Will cocked an eyebrow at the stuffy white haired guy? That was a guy, right?

"Trust me, I'm no civilian. I'm a Guardian sent to stop something called The Order. I saw you all gathered here and figured you could point me in the right direction."

@Lucky @Ver @Jeremi @Atomic Knight @Gummi Bunnies @Takumi @Yun Lee

He could pick up what felt like slight tension, a frown coming to his face, looking between the two. Technically, he was a civilian himself though his circumstances were a bit different. He didn't know what she meant by a Guardian exactly, but the title seemed to hold some great importance to her.

@Atomic Knight @Yun Lee @Ver @Lucky @Gummi Bunnies @Jeremi @Hahli Nuva @Ruins

Artorius examined Will for a moment as if assessing her. He soon raised his chin and nodded in the opposite direction of the ruins. "I'm afraid this matter is not likely to concern The Order at this time," he said, his tone indicating he was not up for a debate. Still, Sorey decided to jump into the conversation.

"Hold on," he said, smiling at Will. "If she's here to combat The Order, she could be useful in combatting the malevolence within the ruins! I'd say we need all the help we can get." Mikleo gave his companion a wary sidelong glance but kept his mouth shut.

Artorius sighed at Sorey's words. "... Whoever you are, perhaps it would be best if you were where we could keep an eye on you. By chance, we may run into The Order, thus giving you good reason to join us after all."

With that matter out of the way, Artorius turned around and made his way toward the entrance of the ruins. Sorey and Mikleo moved to follow after him. They stopped before an opening that was had been hard to see from far away for it was behind several layers of debris. There were enough gaps in the metal in the rock for everyone in the group to squeeze through. If Seres was correct, the entrance was safe to enter.

"Come."

Artorius led the way inside, where it soon became apparent how dark it was to take even just a few steps inside. Seres appeared before the group once again, this time conjuring a flame that floated in front of her that lit up the passage ahead. On the walls were markings, depicting scenes of many men and women walking forward into the darkness.

pA0tpBo.png

"It looks they're starting a pilgrimage," Sorey said, analyzing the markings as they moved ahead. "Going in the same direction we are."

Remy didn't bother joining in on some dumb back and forth between the leader of this mission and some teenager. If he had learned anything from his time in captivity, it was to never underestimate younger people. That being said, she would need to prove herself worthy of any estimation at all before Remy would take a side.

As they walked through the halls, he glanced at the murals, observing them. "I wonder if the old religion here has anything to do with this scene." Pilgrimages were a common thing in religions, were they not? But he doubted anyone here would know the answer-no one was a native of Ash.

"I'm not so sure about the prospect of involving a civilian, especially if we do have to end up purifying spirits, though I suppose one can never really know who's who and who can do what on Ash. Still, precisely because of the nature of this world, perhaps it just makes me uneasy, but if it can't be helped..." Alisha simply said, putting in her two cents. It was a strange position for Artorius for someone to just appear before them unannounced with no context of what they were doing at all, but then, there were so many lost souls here as it was. People came and went, like this place was a magnet drawing others in from across the multiverse.

Like a black hole, in every sense of the name.

As she entered the cave along with the others, she could only gaze silently at the markings, trying her best to make heads or tails of them. "Is this... perhaps some sort of ritual? Some sort of sacrifice, or maybe a rite of passage or so?" The girl hazarded to guess. Mikleo and the Shepherds here were far more qualified than her to analyze these sorts of ruins, so even she didn't take much stock in her guesses, but it was something, at least.

Schala felt a little... Strange to say the least being here, despite having volunteered herself to come here with other Coalition members, although for quite some time, she hung back. Part of the reason she wanted to come was to see someone purify malevolence first hand; it was something she wished to do... Someday. For now, the most help she could lend was to study malevolence in hopes of combatting it alongside the rest of the Coalition.

As she had seen its effects first hand, she just didn't feel comfortable staying put and doing nothing. Thus, she eventually shook off her initial hesitation, and followed Artorius' lead into the ruins, where they noticed markings on the wall.

Hearing the others muse about their observations, Schala frowned, lightly brushing her hand on the wall in question as she began to try and search for any supernatural presense nearby. Naturally she was the most likely to sense something of magical nature, if anything at all, but perhaps her abilities interacted differently here...

While she was loosely following the group, her focus was less on talking, more on investigating it seemed... She was so concentrated on searching the area for any supernatural, or at least magical presense, her eyes closed, that it almost looked like she might run into something if she wasn't carefull. Hopefully she knew what she was doing...

❝ Perhaps that is the CASE. These markings may give a hint on what is up AHEAD. However, it is only a hint and not concrete INFORMATION. Therefore, we must tread on with caution until more is UNVEILED. ❞ Dlanor plainly stated, sliding up her glasses after saying so. It was little to go off of, but it gave its slight implications.
